Ravelry's administration run it like a communist country. They have a group called Ravelry Rubberneckers that troll all the forums for things to make fun of and then post links to members and their conversations. Then they ridicule these people and make fun of them. When Ravelry says it's against hate speech, it's only against speech they hate. If you ask a question, you get attacked and insulted. I cannot recommend this site to anyone.
Ravelry tries very hard to be all inclusive but requires the people who post to be good to each other. You can believe anything you want to believe but you can't put anyone down for their color, their race, their religion, etc. Now if they are stupid it might be open season. The politics got out of hand recently but most of the site is a very helpful place to learn more about the crafts of knitting, crocheting, spinning and weaving. If you have a question about a technique/a pattern/a yarn someone will have the answer.
Ravelry is a knowledge site for crafters, run by real people who are some of the best coders, UI developers, knowledge managers and customer service team I've encountered, anywhere, in a 30-year (so far) IT career. The site aims to catalogue all things yarncraft and makes massive databases of patterns, supplies, and projects available for free to its users. It is a sustainable and ethical small business, subsisting on voluntary user contributions and relevant advertising content from human-vetted small business contributors.
An originally small part of the site was its extensive forums function, which is moderated by volunteers and governed by an exceedingly well considered Community Guidelines that the rest of the social media world could stand to take a few lessons from.
I spent many happy years on this site however, this site has been progressively more political. I want to knit, craft etc not get all involved in political divisions. Very primitive website.
I've been coming to Ravelry almost daily for a decade. It's wonderful. They have so much helpful information on knitting and other fiber arts.
They have so many groups on any number of things other than knitting as well.
I highly recommend it w/o reservation.
I was a long time member. Yet no more. Inclusion means accepting all for who they are regardless of belief, race, age, anything. We must find a way back to the real acceptance of all. Ravelry lost that when deciding to exclude and kick members out
I use Ravelry for all my yarn research. The site is easy to access with tons of information. It allows me to find similar yarn when I cannot find what I am looking for.
Ravelry is run by ultra white liberal elites. They accuse everyone of being racist white supremacists. Its very funny because the Ravelry board is very non diverse and non inclusive! They recently banned support for Trump on the website and claimed support for Trump is support for white supremacy. Newsflash... all Trump supporters are not white...
The website is very primitive both, technically and ideologically.
Ancient, low quality, non-intuitive system, very poor, extremely sloooow customer service
(with moderators taking weeks to provide technical help or advise(if at all).
Recent totalitarian rules alienating over 60mln of US voters and anyone supporting free speech, tipped the scales. Keep away from the bullies.
Ravelry is the first site I always look for a pattern. They have provided me with an organized way to keep patterns and find patterns. I support them in their stand against hate, no matter how loud the bigots cry, I stand with Ravelry in their moral and ethical decision to not allow it on their site. Thank you!
In addition to being extremely user-friendly and intuitive, Ravelry's staff and team of volunteer moderators work tirelessly around the clock to ensure the site is functioning smoothly. I can't imagine planning a knit or crochet project without Ravelry, and keeping track of my yarn stash would be a nightmare. Plus, they've taken positive steps based on user feedback to ensure the community is safe and welcoming for all members.
Made policy changes without notifying shop owners ahead of time. We find this extremely unprofessional.
White suburban Harvard elites, the founders of Ravelry believe that only privileged people like themselves can save the little brown people of the world. They lied to create a situation where they could feel justified in banning conservatives from their site, tarring and feathering Trump supporters, one and all, with the label of "White Supremacist". They lied to their advertisers about their subscriber count to inflate their advertising rates, creating fake accounts at a time when the site was closed to new accounts. And never forget: they accepted $71,000 in donations from their community -- so much money that they didn't even need it for the business and used some to purchase CARBON CREDITS -- and later, when they no longer needed these donors, they BANNED THE VERY SAME PEOPLE IF THEY WERE TRUMP SUPPORTERS. At the same time, they welcome with open arms hate speech against President Trump, Sarah Palin, Jews, and others. This website is run, and populated, by hateful people, and any veneer of civilization that was once there is long gone. -- Ravelry member 2008 to 2019
I love this site the patterns are easy to search for and there is so many to explore and such beautiful work from the site users. I truly love this platform.
This site used to be about sharing knitting and crochet patterns and loving the crafts. Since the owners of Ravelry decided to come out of the closet' with their anti American, anti-US Constitution, full blow hate for our President Trump, and ban anyone who has the audacity to stand up for everything America stands for, true Americans have decided that we aren't going to stay in a group that has these hate values. Allowing $#*! Trump' scarves and patterns on their site while banning and closing accounts with MAGA 2020' and Make America Great Again patterns and items is discriminating, lying about being all inclusive, and stifling our American freedoms. It also shows that they are afraid. Because they know that President Trump has more support than any other President has in decades. President Trump is for ALL Americans and America. He wants us United and Ravelry wants us divided. The picture has never been more clear. Sad, but true. But the right side is now standing up and fighting back against bullies like Ravelry. We aren't gonna take it anymore! Rise up!
As long as you are a leftist you are fine. But if you are a republican you are called a white supremacists. Avoid this site like the plague
Website is run by a person who censors all speech, thought or ideas other than his own. He allows Trademark and Copyright infringement He holds data of every account including those of any and all designers once they close their accounts. What you think is yours, isn't. It now belongs to the website owner. He has falsified accounts to make it look like there is over 8 million when there really isn't. He's scammed his followers out of donation money. Ravelry isn't what the owner claims it is. Don't open an account. All patterns you can find elsewhere on the internet. You can find the designers directly on their own websites.
Amazing resource for knitters and spinners - can't imagine how I would manage without it - good thing I'm not a right-wing bigot ;)
Nothing else exists quite like Ravelry. You can find everything you need to help and inspire all of your fiber art projects. I've been a member since the beginning and a crocheted since I was 4- I've seen it all and nothing could be better!
Answer: Ravelry refuses to support bigotry in any form and states so in its TOS. It is a privately owned platform and they are well within their rights. They have absolutely not banned Christians or conservatives, only speech that supports bigots and bigotry.
Answer: Because they are creating a culture of ignorance and hate in the name of politics.
Answer: This has nothing to do with Ravelry. Sockmatician is receiving feedback on a post he wrote and then heavily edited.
Answer: In the notebook section, go to your library. Choose your pattern and there will be a download button. Alternatively, for free patterns, on the main pattern page there will be a link to click to download the pattern or, if it isn't hosted on Ravelry, a link to where you can find the pattern on another website.
Answer: Can you point to any reviews that are actually doing that?
Answer: By email / by downloading it - If you purchase a pattern on Ravelry, it is a digital download.
Answer: How interesting that I answered this question several hours ago, but now *POOF* my answer has magically disappeared. WHICH PROVES MY ASSERTION. This site is helping Ravelry suppress opposing points of view. What that means is, this site is not objective and cannot be trusted for accurate information concerning the businesses that are reviewed.
Answer: I would imagine that it has something to do with Ravelry insisting that their ignorant behavior be defended. Even if that means many will no longer take sitejabber reviews seriously. I mean, how could I? Sitejabber is now guilty of silencing dissenting opinions. Just like Ravelry.
Answer: Laura J., the negative reviews are also objective. They have been posted by real people such as me, reporting real experiences past and present. True assessment of a company needs both sides of the story. If the negative reviews disappear again, it would imply someone from Ravelry is exerting undue influence over SiteJabber. There was mention in an answer to a similar question about some people a "Boycott Ravelry" group using fake names and addresses to post fake reviews. I was not a member of that group, and know some of the people posting reviews since the initial ones were deleted. We are not fake. We speak the truth, whether you want to hear it or not.
