$70 for a box of produce? Gtfo. They stole my money after cancellation and are refusing a refund. AVOID
Had this for a month- 3 of 4 orders were shipped late so they arrived late. 2 boxes have been missing ingredients, 1 had rotten/moldy cauliflower. I like the taste and recipes but having them arrive late and running out to the grocery store is getting old.
Most if not all of the produce is spoiled by the time it arrives. Do not recommend purchasing. Photo is of asparagus that arrived TODAY... gross!
I received a text from a friend- look in your email we are sending you a gift.
I looked in my email and this is literally what my very first email from purple carrot was titled: 'Dinner's on Michael! Try Purple Carrot for Free!' I know these friends use purple carrot weekly so I thought it would be fun to have a free meal or two.
I created an account in which I was forced to give my credit card number, birth date, and other personal info - for a gift.
The 'gift' was for a 3-day meal plan for 2 - so 6 vegan plates of food for $73.00.
Several weeks later I still had not received the food. One night I got a text from my bank that purple carrot had charged my credit card $73.00 for my first box! I emailed purple carrot and received an email back from Sandra telling me that I didn't receive a gift I received some kind of referral and if I create an account I get the box for free (but I didn't get the box for free). I did get the box the next day with maybe 3 pounds of vegetables which included 1small butternut squash, about 3 leaves of kale, and 1 brick of squished tofu that I could cut up into 6 cubes, some sauce containers that have about 2 tablespoons of sauce in them. Each meal feeds 2 people.
I think that as a true vegan eating plant based whole food meals with no processed grain you could majorly overeat and lose weight.
From what I can see in this box if all you ate was purple carrot you would be on a starvation diet and you would be sacrificing the best part of your life to send the purple carrot kids to college, buy them fancy cars, and pay for their honey moons in places you couldn't afford to go - because you are working to buy purple carrot! I could literally buy the food in the box for $10.00 at Whole Foods. It isn't prepped except that I didn't go to the store to buy it and it was shipped to my house with 6 exploded gel packs and it is all wrapped in super heavy-duty plastic that will kill 5 sea turtles. The recipes say things like - peel and chop the butternut squash -?!
Needless to say I am not impressed. Buy a normal brick of tofu and 3 squashes and a whole jar of sauce that you can divide up or eat all at once if you choose - and save $70.00. And if you want it delivered to your house use instacart, whole foods delivery service, or join a local CSA.
Absolutely would not recommend to anyone. Their recipes are not actually healthy, they send you about $10 worth of produce, and it comes in the absolute WORST environmentally friendly packaging possible. They do NOT email you in advance when your order is coming up (I travel for work a lot, so I have to remember to log in frequently to opt out), however they will email you when the order shipped. You could literally spend 5 minutes in a grocery store to pick up the items they send, cook the healthier and be happier with life. Oh, and not have to deal with POUNDS of toxic packaging meant to keep the $10 worth of produce cold.
I did not order it. I did not choose the meals. I did not determine delivery date. I am not a vegan. But somehow the box arrived and now I cannot reason with them to give me a credit.
What can I say about a vegan meal service where the vegetables arrive rotten. The greens (arugula, spinach, etc) arrived wet and slimy- beyond salvaging. The eggplant soft, bruised,
Brown inside and unusable. The avocado rotten on the inside and a little furry on the outside. When we tried to cancel the next shipment we were told even though it hadn't shipped we couldn't stop the order. When we informed them of our complaints were offered a $20 discount on the next order, not the one that hadn't shipped yet and we attempted to cancel, but couldn't the one after that. So we cancelled the subscription.
What can we say about a vegan meal plan where you can't eat the vegetables? Don't waste your money. Rotten food and poor customer service. PS we did send photos to them which was why we got the $20 offer, here is a pic of arugula. At least that is what the label says
The g.
When you try to skip meals, purple carrot website will end up sometimes reversing the skip. They then send you an order you never wanted, and they refuse to refund, even if they haven't shipped yet. When people file complaints, they respond in all caps telling the people it's their fault. Horrible company, low quality ingredients. We received tortillas that has a texture like paper. Bad business run by bad people. Hopefully they end up out of business.
I got a Christmas Gift to my newly vegan sister and niece. A one-time gift for $55 to get them started. Then they continued to take money from my account. You can't cancel anytime, because they are predicting 1-2 weeks out. By the time I caught the error they had royally $#*!ed my account. They took a "gift" one time purchase and made it a subscription without my knowledge or consent. Then customer service evaded my questions, there was nobody. I got robo letters. Unhelpful ones. I am tech savvy and it took another 2 hours to cancel only to find out they are cancelling from today on the 29th.
Thieves. My sister and niece liked the meals. It's an expensive damn present considering I live on a limited budget. Never again. Not recommending. Don't do it. Not worth it. It's like letting a stranger play with your bank account and they can't be trusted.
I've tried 3 meal plan services. I'm vegan so really wanted to love Purple Carrot and thought for sure this would be my favorite. Instead, it not only turned out to be my least favorite, but I've also vowed to never do business with them again. The meals are good (Green Chef is better though) but the ingredients are not organic & contain unnecessary preservatives. I have a sensitivity to pesticides so for that reason decided to cancel. I could have made do with the poor preparation instructions. Their FAQ's gave an email address. I emailed the company asking to cancel. A month later I receive an email that a box had just been delivered. I had a million things going on with it being Thanksgiving week and a fridge filled with holiday items. So this box being delivered was a huge inconvenience. I called purple carrot and was told I had a promotional $25 credit that could be applied to this box (Um, if I already had the credit why hadn't it been applied already?) & that was all they will do. "Oh and by the way, there is another box being delivered next week." They refused to stop shipment on the next box & refused to give me any sort of discount even though I didn't plan to cook this week. They admitted during the call that they realized that their cancellation system had not been working properly so a week ago had changed to a new method. So even though I did my part by emailing them a full month ago I was still stuck. Had they worked with me I would have considered their service if it went organic in the future but now I will never do business with them again.
Along with the similar issues people are pointing out (Typically something is missing/rotten), we got an extra surprise this visit.
After dropping off our order, the delivery driver decided it was time to walk through my yard, and urinate on our bushes. All in front of our security cameras. There's public bathrooms not even 1/4 mile, my front yard is not your piss bucket. Disgusting!
Got this as a gift after a severe injury. Wanted to use it once but told I had to give my credit card and cancellation was easy. A major ingredient from 2 out of 3 dishes was totally or 1/2 rotten. Emailed to cancel and filled out a survey. One month later told a box was coming the next day and I was charged $72. Sent it back but told I had not followed all the steps and was still going to be charged. No apologies. Would never recommend this business.
Answer: Still waiting for a response from 4 weeks ago. Other social media sites agree that it's a common problem.
Answer: This company is poorly run and very likely a scam due to their total lack of desire to work out any reasonable resolution to problems encountered by customers. They lie and twist the facts to prove the fault is yours and they claim no responsibility.
