It's not the site that is to blame. It's online dating in general. Problems:
1) Females get WAY TOO MUCH male attention. As such, women who are a "4" suddenly believe they are entitled to an "8". Thus, women are on there for YEARS wondering why they can't just meet a NICE NORMAL (superhot, ripped, rich) guy.
2) Almost everyone lies. Lies of omission (head shot only people, just saying) and people who mix in older, younger, thinner photos. Men (I hear) embellish about career and income. Weak. Other people just post old pics or ones so far away they are of no use.
3) Selection effect. When faced with so so many choices, people suddenly get extremely choosy. It's a documented psychological effect. Give guests 10 dessert choices instead of two and time how long it takes them to decide and watch the uncertainty!
4) "Profile matching" and comparing similar interests is said to be secondary in importance to how people get along - read: communication styles, personality type, and other things that don't have to do with hobbies, interests, travel, type of music and flavor of iced cream. Pet allergies is useful info though...
5) You have no idea what the other person is REALLY looking for. Men often fiend relationship readiness to try and just "get some action". I also noticed a lot of women have intimacy and trust issues and are in stark denial about it, lamenting over and over how they "just can't find a good guy" and "all men are creeps" etc. etc. Self awareness in the general population seems to be as low as ever.

So I say don't blame POF - it's actually a pretty decent site. It's just that online dating in general has a lot wrong with it. I think I got good value for $84 for 1 year of access. The features are neat, and if you can express yourself well you CAN meet people. But the problem with "plenty of fish" is trying to sort through all of them getting someone who is even close to a match. Most people I meet make for a fun date, but the profile and short "texting" exchange doesn't tell you enough about the person. I think meeting in person, the old fashioned way, might take more time and being OUT there more, but you know RIGHT AWAY if there is chemistry. Trying to determine this online in advance, sorry to say, is a bit of a myth. For me anyways.

Don't blame POF for human nature. ;)

I thought i was paying 11 bucks for the month i paid and looked and it was a year membership for 84 dollars. Funny thing is i $#*!ing pay and nobody can respond to me because it blurrs the message. This my friends is social engineering at its finest. What better way into sensitive information such as credit card numbers and dirty ads laced with trojans and other malicious software than to really play with the soul of a lonely heart. Shame on you for being so cruel.

I have been on POF for one year. In September my profile was hacked into. POF sent me a message, asking me if I used any different method to gain entry to my account. Before I could answer them, they sent another message, saying they were closing access to my profile. I have emailed them 4 times, once in September & 3 times in October. The response is always the same. Thank you for contacting POF, we are having unusual amounts emails. We will have one of our service pros contact you. Try our help apt to gain access to your site. When they shut you down you're no longer able to access the site. Your email address, and password no longer exist to POF. If you manage to find there phone # don't bother calling, you will get another robot asking for your life history. And that will say if you don't give the proper info no one will talk to you because they don't have the time. I still have 2 months time that I paid for, NO it's not Free if you want to chat with a possible date. POF sucks!

Plenty of Fish... well this lake is not actually a lake. Its an office or dungeon with 40-50 year old computer sloths that run the show and play god! Conventional wisdom will tell us that love isnt something you go looking for, but at some point in your life bumps into you at the supermarket, at a football game, friends bbq, someones wedding etc etc. Yet for some reason we have all fallin for this fake fantasy that online dating is genuine and the way to go in this day and age. I am believer in love! Ive believed in it a few times in my life and will continue to do so as im an old fashioned romantic. I feel shame and regret in myself for being takin in by these so called "matchmakers". There are no sites at all in the online dating world that arent out for devastation and financial gain. Sure there are reviews about people citing all the great things about them but come on... we all no reviews arent formed by actual individuals. We are smarter than this. Heres my review ladies and gentleman... in poem form. Tonight we sit on our phones/computers piling through dozens of profiles of can he/she be the ones... hoping to find love and happiness in a digital age, glamorized ads that promise they are the best and all the rage... at what cost do we put on our hearts to find a match, all the while these heartbreakers are laughing at us while we look for a catch... im not impressed at how the year 2015 i was takin for my money, just to find a beauty i can call my honey... take heed all you lonely and dismayed, do not use any more dating sites because you are going to get played.
So theres a review you can take to the bank... oh wait it was 100% free! Take care all you wonderful beings looking to find something that we all need and want! Love ya!

I have been emailing POF as they have taken an incorrect amount. They have no customer service number and you can only contact by email. I have sent several emails explaining my situation and they haven't had the decency to respond. They took £81 and as soon as I received an email informing me of this, I tried to cancel the transaction. I got a message saying you cannot cancel within 24 hours - very suspicious. I cannot afford this as I am a single parent. Something has gone wrong and I didn't want this, I was only going to subscribe for 1 month. I cannot get any response from them. This in itself should make people wary of using the site. Most reputable companies will have a Customer Service number. I am now £81 worse off. I cancelled as soon as I could after the 24 hour period, but still no refund.

This company does not care about putting things right. They are unethical. I have had to ask my credit card company to look into this for me.

DO NOT use POF. Go on a site that will listen to genuine concerns and have a decent refund policy or cooling off policy.

I have tried zoosk, match.com, and then plenty of fish. I have a hard time meeting someone since I am a full time student, and a single parent, so I don't have much time to meet people in the old fashioned way. I got a lot of messages right away and thought: "hey this site is great." If you are desperate for attention, are looking just to hook up, or like being verbally abused then yeah pof is definitely for you. I was looking for a real relationship but who was I kidding looking for that on any dating site? So many guys blew me off, were rude, expected me to be online constantly, and a few even played me (acted as if I was interested, and wanted to meet, and then blew me off). Most of the guys only wrote generic "hi" and then nothing in return. Some seemed to just want to play games. The liking features were clunky and useless. I received a deluge of desperate messages. I had a few phone conversations, and only went out with two guys from the site. One was so socially awkward and boring I heard crickets chirping. I only was on pof for a little over a week, that is how upset I was by it. But like any online dating site, I guess it is full of people with insecure attachments, dating hang ups, and neurotic personality types.

The person who runs this site is a complete man hater. They allow women to say ANYTHING on this site, pose half nude, etc... but if you're a guy, they monitor your e-mails and will delete your account on a whim. I'm a pro fighter, and my pictures are mostly of me in the cage fighting. My pics were deleted because MY SHIRT WAS OFF... but, there are women on there in bathing suits, thongs, I even saw one showing their pubes, and when I reported them, POF did NOTHING. Terrible, terrible site.

I was on this website and was talking to a couple of really nice guys when I got a really nasty message from one guy.My reply was as nasty as his but he had me banned. I haven't been able to create a new account or stay on without any issues with new names. I haven't used foul language, pictures or anything. I guess I should've just had that one guy banned in the first place but to make a long story short, don't use this website. They'll ban you for anything ANYTHING anyone tells you or asks them to. I guess I'll just stay single for another 10 -30 years lol

As far as match making goes pof doesn't know how to bait a hook. The "meet me" feature is just a picture show. It has not led to a single conversation. Their matches for me are not even close to my preferences. And those few contacts from the men on this site are from the unwashed unshaven unemployed miscreants looking for a quick hook up.
What I am most upset about is how they help themselves to your bank account with an auto renew that you can't turn off. There is no way to contact the company after the fact to make a complaint or get a refund. It took me 3 tries to delete my account because they would redirect me during the deletion process and ask a question then tell you you can only delete your account when you are signed in. I had to sign in 3 times and I am still not sure if my account information has really been deleted. I wouldn't recommend this site to anyone. Buyer beware.
