I really love audiobooks and came into Playster super excited. It does have a great selection and the subscription model is great! However, a few months ago there was a price increase for access to most books and it is now getting a bit pricey. I am not sure if I really want to continue for too much longer at this higher price.
I joined for the audiobooks and I have a premium membership. The selection of authors I like is very limited. When their audiobooks available the audiobooks are older. Which is okay as there are favorites to listen to again.
When the app works it works great. When the app doesn't work it's frustrating. Either sever error messages appear way too long or authors that once had audiobooks available will have no audiobooks listed.
When the app is working and audiobooks appear it's a great service. However, it seems to work only half the time. Weighting the cost of premium membership and the amount of time the service is available I'm thinking Audible may be a better option for me.
Search engine on Playster isn't very user friendly. Hard to search for specific audio titles on a consistent basis.
My rating would have been 5 Stars just a couple of months ago, but now it isn't even worthy of 1 Star. I am paying for the Premium Audiobooks plan and everything was working great - I absolutely LOVED Playster - top notch. Then at the beginning of June 2018 I couldn't access any of the premium audiobooks that I had not already saved in my account. If I search when I am not logged in, these titles show as available through the Premium plan, but when I search while logged in, they don't even show up as an option. I alerted Playster immediately and they have been working on it ever since (around a month and a half now). Playster tells me that "They [Tech Support] have advised due to the rollout from the BETA phase, you will be affected. In this case, they are unable to restore the mentioned books below. They have advised however as soon as the rollout has been completed, you will have access successfully." They cannot tell me when I will have my full access back and meanwhile, I am paying for the Premium Audiobook plan, but I am not allowed access to the Premium Audiobooks. BTW, I was never provided any correspondence letting me know that Playster was placing my account in some Beta program. I'm sure that many members are unaware that access to some books has been taken away.
If Playster ever gives me my access to Premium audiobooks back, I will again rate it as 5 Stars. Until then...
The price is too too high. And the app doesnt always work correctly. However the selection is pretty good and I love being able listen to as many books as I want.
Ive had lots of trouble with the app. My playlist disappears. There is not a good selection of new popular fiction and non-fiction for adults. The monthly membership cost is high for what I receive.
The user experience is frustrating... crashes, playlists dissappear, often need to search for last audiobook to continue reading. The search engine is inadequate and downloads are temporary. Needs a lot of work to fix bugs.
I like the ability to listen to as many or as few audiobooks as I like. The price is decent for the selection of books offers. My biggest gripe is I have not been able to get through a month without haveing playback issues that require waiting 2+ weeks to resolve (meaning Im actively streaming through the website and not the app. Which is a problem when I travel for work as internet is not always available) or re-installing the app requiring me to re-download all of my books.
There are also quirks with the app & site re-auhenticating me a few times a day which is annoying and interrupts playback. Lastly when I start listening there is a pop-up asking if I want to listen here... not sure what that is about, but annoying thing to have to close.
They recently lost my entire playlist. And couldn't find most of my previous select books in the library. I've thought about canceling my subscription
I like Playster slowly it is becoming my my preferred audio book app but I still have to use Audible. Many of the titles are romance trash. Sometimes the app doesnt work. Not enough search options like for geanra. It would be killer if they had foreign languages and search options for those. I would pay a little more for this.
I love Playster so much. I use it to listen to audiobooks. My only complaint is that it can be really hard to find some Audio books. Sometimes you cant find it with the title or even with the authors name. You have to go through so many loops to find it.
I keep losing connection with the server which is extremely frustrating. In fact I am seriously considering cancelling my service
I have used playster for a while now and even stuck with them when the prices almost doubled. I have had problems with the server going down this last time for 3 days. I talked to playster every day and was told they were working on it and it would be up soon. Three days later and uninstalling and reinstalling the app later it is still not working correctly. I asked if I would get credit or a refund for the days of the month the app was unavailable and not to my surprise I was told no. I am paying for a service that has been unavailable. I am pretty sure if I don't pay they are going to let me continue to listen to their books so why is okay for them not to provide what I am paying for?
This app is a joke... I used it before and as soon as my usage was approximately a book a day... I got the same results. You have violated our algorithm... Haha! I am a mother of 5 with no knowledge of how to share your audiobooks... I had a new device... new email... new credit card... and you did the same thing... your unlimited access is a joke! The worst part is that I was stupid enough to think that if I paid more... your 29.95 vs. 10.95 then it was going to be different... going to spread the word as much as I can! I use a couple other library apps that are FREE! They may not have the selection... but at least they don't advertise something that they are willing to stand behind!
I've used this app regularly for the past 6 months with no trouble, but it updated and wanted me to pay $60 a month for "premium" audio books. No good titles were left for the lower subscription.
Hi Landon, if you email [email protected] you can provide us with suggestions for content you would like to see incorporated into your plan's library.
Run run run! The app is sucky in itself. It likes to crash and the features don't work half the time and they are not useful when reading or listening to a book. It will lose your place and make you start from the beginning. There is no switching from audio to reading like with the wispersync. With the price jump and I do mean jump $10 a month to $30 some people it's apparently $50 it's not worth it. Go to one of the other competitors at least audible will let you continue to read your book all the way through... UPDATE: I cancelled my service due to the issues that worn't worth the price and they charged me for the full amount the very next day! I found out that there where 2 accounts opened under my card and they where charging my card double this whole time (my bad i didn't catch it) But there should not have been 2 accounts as i had the costumer service help me start my account originally due to an error in there system. If you want free books try the library most have a good digital selection, some allow you to even get a card out of state or YouTube surprisingly had a ton just don't go with playster...
Hi Ryssa,
Sorry to hear about your Playster experience. Were you able to contact [email protected] to get everything resolved?
I enjoyed playster for the price I was paying ($15). The app was glitchy and the selection wasn't great but for that price I still enjoyed it. They recently doubled the price for the majority of the books they have workout warning. One week they were missing and the next they returned but at a premium price. I dropped it like a hot potato.
Read above lower price looking for something better it has a great possibility but the price went up all night f the sudden. The app works ok but not great. Other audiobooks sites like audible are much better

Why are all my audio books now at a premium cost? It went from $24.95 CAN TO $48.95! ( per month)
Just for audiobooks that's crazy.
I will be cancelling

Have been a very happy member of Playster for a few months now except today they jacked up all their books by 50% with no warning. Bait and Switch tactics at play. Super disappointed in this app, would have been a long term member if they hadn't done this.
