Told the lady Lisa that I did not want their insurance but they stated basic rental and did not inform me that that was insurance on their end Predatory practice, deceitful business. Charged extra $200 for insurance scam practice. In the picture, focus on the middle between the tree and the wall, the rental lady that rented me the car is climbing the wall with a ladder to get to the parked cars to bring around. Good luck finding the rental place in Phoenix from the airport because they do not believe in placing signs for finding them. Piss poor practices. You know you are wrong in your practices and it will come back to you in other ways. I am done with you and will inform others to be done with you as well.

Never Again
May 9, 2025

This was, without question, the worst car rental experience in Maui. Priceline should be held accountable for affiliating with such an unprofessional company. Despite having a confirmed reservation, the car I booked was already rented to someone else—a complete breach of trust. I was offered a substitute vehicle that was dirty, smelled awful, and covered in scratches. The customer service was insincere, dismissive, and clearly not interested in resolving the issue. To make matters worse, after returning the car in better condition than I received it—clean, fueled, and spotless—I was still slapped with a bogus $30 charge. This operation is a disgrace, and no customer should have to tolerate such deception and disrespect.

Very pushy sales people
October 27, 2024

The car very clean and drove well. The shuttle was pretty quick and convenient.

I found the sales people to be very pushy and rushed. They added a lot of things to my bill. I don't trust them. I also found it impossible to contact the local location to check on an item I lost in the car.

This is like a timeshare of rental car companies. They offer you a deal and before you know it you have spent a small fortune. I swear all the agents are on a commission basis. They don't know what customer service means. Next time I rent a car I will go with a more reputable company and not for the cheapest rate.

SCAM
April 26, 2024

Total SCAM! NU Car Rental added $80 for three days of insurance to my rental because I didn't have at least $500k of liability on my personal insurance. They were doing this to EVERY person picking up a car while I was there. Everyone was upset and vocal, but stuck in their SCAM. Then, a week after I returned the car, they charged me more than $25.28 for a Toll violation (25$ each + tollconsumption) at a date and time more than a week after I returned the car. I never used a toll road.

Horrible
April 3, 2024

I've been in Costa Rica many times and because Adobe rental didn't have any rental I decided to go with this company which it was a horrible experience. We waited three hours to get the car while they were like four employees walking around there was only one guy taking care of all of the other customers, it was a long wait and when they decided to take care of us, the car took another hour because it wasn't clean for real I reserved it so it will be ready in time, they have no customer service training, the insurance was double than the car rental price and many unhappy customers in front of us complaining, it was unbelievable, don't recommend this company at all it ruined our fist day of vacation

BEWARE!
January 31, 2024

BEWARE! If I could give this zero stars I would. They make it look like it's such a good deal, but it's a bit of a scam. First, you have to guess how to get to them. They are not in the FLL Rental Center and they are not listed with the other off-airport companies. You must call the number and wait on hold to get that info. We waited for 40 minutes for the shuttle to show up. Then at the office, they have all kinds of hidden charges. My insurance covers rentals for sure, but they told me I had to pay for "Loss of services" insurance to rent the car. They said that covers me incase I need a loaner. Why would I need a loaner when I'm renting to begin with? So I ended up paying what I would have paid for another much more convenient option at the airport. The person at the office was condescending and arrogant. He told me they were upgrading me to a larger car. I didn't want a larger car, I wanted a small car. He told me I was "unbelievable, because most people are grateful when we give them an upgrade." Those were his exact words. You can't use your own Sun Pass, but you can pay them $15 a day for their Sun Pass. Never had that before. It was just a horrible experience. Read the fine print if you use them, but better yet, rent from someone else.

No car available
January 27, 2024

I'm very frustrated and not happy with my experience today Friday January 26 in LAX.
This is an email I sent to Expedia and a few different reviews on the internet.

This company is very poorly managed. I had a reservation for a SUV made, so I showed up at the car rental desk. They told me no car was available. No communication, no email, no text sent in the morning to inform me that there was no car available. First you need to take a bus from the airport to the car rental bus depot then wait for another shuttle to pick you up. (Yes, 2 different shuttles). After waiting about 10-15 minutes, I decided to walk to the hotel, (3 blocks away) I wasted my time, walking over there carrying my luggages to find out there was no SUV available.

I made a reservation on December 20 and my car should have been there for me. Because I haven't pre paid and reserved that car on Expedia, they do not respect booking from a third party. They told me they cannot do anything for me. They also said to other customers everyone booked through a third party will have to wait a few hours because they are out of cars and they will be helping people first who booked directly through them. I ended up spending over $800 from another car rental company. At least, they helped me to find another car rental but it cost me a lot more.

They told me that Expedia overbooked cars. This is not NU Car Rental fault, Not their responsibility. Ha, Ha,

I asked the agent for compensation and NU Car Rental refused. Really, this is not great.

Better to spend more money with a reputable car rental company than dealing with this backyard car rental company.

Thank you NU

I arrived to pick up my rental car in Salt Lake City, and was told: "We don't have any street legal vehicles in the class you rented." The person behind the counter refused to release the vehicle that I had rented, and said that I would have to upgrade if I wanted a vehicle. They further explained that since this was a high-demand time of year for rentals (during Sundance Film Festival), it would be difficult if not impossible to secure another rental. I was forced under duress to upgrade which blew my budget for my trip. I returned the vehicle early to salvage some of the expense. However, this incident cost me dearly.

This was a classic bait and switch tactic. After reading other reviews and noting the sheer volume of similar complaints (up to 62% of complaints are a ONE star!), I surmised that we don't need companies like this in business. Something must be done. Class Action Lawsuit anyone? I'm all in.

They are a total SCAM! Upon check in they said there was a cancellation and offered us a "free" upgrade. They ended up charging us an extra $250 and would not reimburse us. Stay AWAY from this company.

Horrible Experience!
November 30, 2023

I had a horible experience with Nu Car Rentals. I have rented cars many times in the past and never had these problems before. I'm not giving details because there are too many of them. Just don't rent from them. For one thing it ended up costing me a lot more $ than I had originally booked for. There are plenty of other rental car companies. Do NOT use this one!

This company fast talks you through the process and shades the truth by telling you the daily rate as if it is the total rate for the rental period. Items are added on so buyer beware, they add the additional cost then get you to initial the charges as they rush you out the door. I ended up with about two hundred dollars of unwanted fees, my bad for not taking the time to read the fine print.
This company's appears to have trained their counter staff to limit the information verbally given on extra charges to imply the number they quote is a total instead of a daily rate.
Counter staff told me the cost of the toll package was eleven dollars and that their gas was cheaper so filling up with them was the best way to go. I returned the car with 5/8 tank expecting to pay for a fill up...you guessed it, full tank charge.
Shame on them for not being honest and up front, they took advantage of me but it wont happen again. Stay away from this rental car company, Do not patronize Nu Car Rentals under any circumstances, you are nothing but a mark to them.

You will pay more
September 19, 2023

The whole nightmare started with shuttle after shuttle being packed and waiting over an hour to be picked up. When getting to the rental place after waiting in a crazy line the guy that helped us out was nice explained options clicked some boxes and we were off. It was very busy and there were super long lines and felt rushed, got in our car and left. The real story began after returning our car and getting the final bill. What was explained to us was not what we got. We paid an absurd amount for gas that was already in the tank we paid an absurd amount for tolls that was not explained to us and charged us an extra day when we were told we can return it a few hours later than that agreement, "It's not that big of a deal" is what we were told. They will nickel and Dime you to death. Look at all the reviews and make up your own mind or roll the dice.

STAY AWAY! Dishonest sales person added huge additional fees.
Sep 2023 • Family
Expedia quoted a good price for a three day car rental from Nu Car Rentals at the airport in Denver. The sales person didn't explain I was to be charged for a full tank of gas to the tune of $95 although I only used 1/4 tank. He just said don't worry about filling the tank, just bring back as is. Also I told him I didn't want additional insurance. I was charged for the insurance anyway. He also told me I needed a toll pass, which I never had to use. He added all this to the contract and said, just initaI the very small print. I contacted the company to express my surprise from the Expedia quote annd their final charge and they said I initialed the agreement so tough luck.

They will steal from you,
CHARLTON P from the commerce NU rental stole a $300 fishing reel from me, after he checked in the truck.

I left my reel in the truck and 30 minutes later I went to go back and get it and it was "never found"
Customer service was absolutely miserable and they promise they don't steal.

Highly UN-recommend
September 3, 2023

I am not one to typically write a bad review and I tend to show an overabundance of grace, BUT…here goes. I highly recommend that you steer clear of Nu Car Rentals! I was quoted $64/day for a rental in Phoenix. When I picked up, I agreed to a second driver of $10/day for my adult daughter. The rep suggested that I do the fuel fill up through them because it was only $4.39 per gallon vs the going rate of $4.79 per gallon, so I could drop it off and they would fill up to bring it back to full tank. THEY SCAMMED ME. When I dropped off, we had a half a tank (we only used 200 miles total and I took picture). They charged for a full tank! $107 dollars! After they said- "they don't credit for unused fuel"?! WOW.
They also had a ridiculous amount of "fees". They did NOT say each fee would be doubled since there were two drivers. They charged a "rental surcharge", TWICE. They charged a "facility charge" TWICE, they charged an "airport fee" TWICE, they charged a "vehicle license fee" TWICE, a "stadium surcharge fee" TWICE, a Transaction Private Tax fee" TWICE, and a "short term vehicle rental fee" TWICE! What should have been a $296 dollar rental was $548! Customer service does not care what I have to say. Some of these fees were listed in the email they sent me the night before pick up (not at the time I secured the rental), but they did not explain that the second driver would incur these fees, or that the gas would be full tank expense. I should have just opted to fill up myself, but we had a 5:45 am drop off and she talked me into this being "more convenient". On a final note: we arrived at 5:45 am. We turned in the key to the drop box, unloaded uggage, and awaited our 6 am shuttle which was already going to be tight. That was their first shuttle going out. They didn't leave with us until 6:30 am, a half hour later than stated and he would not take us to ticketing/ departures- only to the sky tram which added another 15 minutes. YIKES for customer service!

Made reservations for this location and this company last week as I approach them on the day of my reservations to find out after spending 25 minutes in line that they had overbooked for my type of car, and did not have any spare cars available. The man who is helping me also mention that they had sent out a cancellation notice, which was not true. I did not receive any email or text message that they had canceled my reservation prior to showing up three days in advance. Consumers be aware that anytime they can drop your reservations without you knowing and you will not have a
Rental car even if you have a confirmation reservation.

Can't believe a rental car company would do this to their customers! August 23,2023.

NEVER RECEIVED CAR
August 14, 2023

NEVER attempt to rent from NU Car Rental. I made a reservation for 2 cars, pick up at Cancun airport. I received a call the day prior with directions how to call for my shuttle to pick me up to bring me to the cars.

They never picked up the phone and I tried calling the number they called me from and any other number I could find online, again with no answers.

Finally, I had to get my family to our resort so I paid a ridiculous price for a taxi. When I called NU Car Rental the next morning to ask why they did not answer the phone, they said I never called and was considered a no-show and cancelled my reservation.

This led to more expenses for obtaining a local rental car with a new company and another expensive taxi ride back to the airport.

Absurd customer service.
July 31, 2023

Maui location.

Absolutely do not use this company. Period.

As I type this I'm waiting for an Uber to another rental place.

The shuttle was almost an hour late. When asked about the delay the driver said he'd been there and we mustn't have seen him. It was an empty parking lot.

After seeing the atrocious reviews about car quality (while waiting for shuttle, and calling only to be hung up on without a word) we asked to see the rental before signing the paperwork. The clerk LITERALLY THREW THE KEY FOB AT ME.

Like, actual assault threw the fob and told me to go find the car.

Don't do it yall. You will absolutely regret it.

Also, the car was absolutely disgusting. Giant salt stains I can only pray were from the ocean in all the seats lmao
