Northern Tool Henrico on Broad Street Richmond VA: I bought a General Inverter Generator online from Generac. Bought withing year never opened until i lost power. It was rainy and very humid but followed the directions and it would not start so I called Generac 800 and they had me do the same several times. Never said may be flooded just told me to bring it into Northern Tool... they charged me 40 and DID NOTHING BUT START IT first try. Since Generac had me try several times it likely flooded But Northern would not budge on the 40 fee said flooded is not covered by warranty and although they did nothing but start it and even after I called they refused to budge. Told him i wanted speak to supervisor and he hemmed and hawed and then said it takes time to write it up so I told him i will just write a review everywhere i can and that they( Northern Tool) has POOR CUSTOMER SERVICE. He said it takes time to write these things up. My guess is he spend 5 minutes at most so that's $480.00 hour SOUNDS LIKE A RIP OFF for doing nothing
I had never shopped at Northern Tool despite their having come to my home city some time ago. I'm looking for a small power hoist for lifting the convertible hard top off of my Jeep. They show the 220/440 lb. cheap Chinese winch online for $94.99 but when I arrived at the store the price was $114.99. They refused to match the online price saying that the item number had changed. This was a complete waste of time. This cheap Chinese winch is literally sold under ten or more brand names online so I'm just buying the exact same winch from Amazon for $90. Don't waste your time with these folks.
I purchase 2 X Garlock Versagate Self-Closing Gate Yellow, 24in. 48in. W x 18in. W, Model# ******* on the 11th of May, was promised a ship date of the 22nd of May. On the 23rdried the chat line, but it was not working, left a message but no one wrote or called me back. On the 26h I called and was on hold for 54 minutes, was told by Asia, she had no visual on the product and put me over to the expert on this item. Was on hold for another 35 minutes, finally gave up. On the 8th of June, I look online and saw that it had shipped, but have received no notification. The in store customer service is good, but online purchase is terrible. I will try not to work with them every again, and especially will not order online. How does a company stay in business treating people like this? Do not order online and expect anything they say to be true.
Placed an order for a set of power tools, got the order confirmation email and have waited a week and still haven't gotten another email to state that the item has shipped. Called customer service to only sit on hold for 30 minutes before a representative tells me "it should ship today" I asked how he knew that and all he could tell me is that "we're just behind on orders, it's processing and should be shipped out today" the item was supposed to arrive today and hasn't even shipped. If the company is behind and/or having delays they shouldn't guarantee 4-6 day shipping!
After trying to install a trailer help myself for the first time I find myself looking for a trailer hub at the northern tool store in cutler ridge fl and was helped by Mario who went above and beyond to make sure that we knew what we were doing and that l we found the right tool and gave us all the time that we needed to make sure we were clear and that we understood what we were doing Mario is a valuable asset to this corporation and I hope he is appreciated for doing what he does... definitely will be coming back to this store because of the experience Mario created for us. Great job northern tools on training and hiring Mario!

We normally do not have problems when we order through EBAY However Northern Tools has tied up our money for 20 days so far... We sent them 3 messages no response... called Customer Service ( now that's what I call for an oxymoron) the three calls included over an hour and a half on hold each with BS story Do yourself a favor avoid this company and when using EBAY be sure to check the feedback especially the negative... Hopefully you will avoid the pain & suffering we are going through
I ordered a hitch for my vehicle and realized shortly after ordering it that it would not fit my application. I attempted to call to cancel the order but was on hold for extended time. After about 20 min I send an email to the customer service email that was included in my order email. After a few hours of no response, I called and waited on hold until I was able to get through. The person I talked to said they couldn't help because they were in sales and I needed to call customer service (which I thought I had just done!). I called again and waited on hold for another 20 min and finally got through to a customer service agent. He said the item had not shipped but could not be canceled because it was too far along in process. I asked if they could at least cover return shipping given the delays in response from customer service. He said they were very busy and it was my fault for placing the order to begin with. Never again will I order from these guys.
I recently purchased a fire pit lid from northern tool the first one came in anf UPS did not do such a good job it was banged up. However they send a replacement. Although it was during the covid-19 pandemic but they still send me the replacement at a relatively short time. Period.
The customer service was very courteous and nice. I plan to purchase more items soon.
100% better than the stuff made in China and you're never sure if you ever going to get anything after you paid.

The worst customer service and experience here. I ordered a fast framer kit on May 4th and they send me a letter on May 19th tell me that my credit card did not go through due to their error but at the same time sending me an invoice as if it was shipped. The website is horrendous to deal with along with waiting over an hour to talk to anyone
I purchased a portable air compressor from Northern. It's the one with the GX 390 Honda engine, 30 gallon tank, 175 PSI compressor. Extremely impressive unit. Works excellent. I have no problem with the product. The problem I have is with the customer service representatives. I had a problem with what is called the unloader valve on the compressor. This valve is responsible for cutting the engine out at the high-pressure and cutting it back in at the low set pressure. They sent me a new one. The pressures were not set correct On the new valve. I called and asked how to adjust it. They told me no adjustment was not necessary. If they told me they would have a liability issue and could not tell me how to adjust it. They had to send me out a new one. The new one was the same way. I called back again and talked with another representative. I told him in order to install this valve a particular portion of it had to be removed for clearance to get the valve screwed in. He told me that was not necessary. Well I consider myself a professional with 40 years experience with pneumatic and hydraulic systems and this is the third valve I have put in on this unit. Again he tells me I'm mistaken. I asked him if he'd like me to send him a photograph or even a video to show him the clearance issue. He bocked and said no. I said fine send me out another valve. No because you disassembled the valve. No I did not disassemble a valve I unscrewed one part of it. Absolutely not a disassembly, similar to taking the oil filter off of your automobile. I marked the part meticulously so it will go on exactly as it came off. Pretty strange that both valves kicked out at the same exact incorrect PSI? Conversation ended with him saying I'm on my own nothing he can do if I want to bring it to a service center I could feel free to do so at my own expense. Compressor has less than 50 hours on it. I was a northern fan as I have plenty of their products including two generators, one 3000 psi pressure washer and 175 PSI air compressor. Never again. I ended up adjusting the valve myself with success. No thanks to the Northern Tool service department.
They advertised a promotion for Milwaukee lights. I placed 2 orders I was charged and was told that it would be shipped in couple days. I heard nothing from them, called 6 times and was told my order will ship soon. Even had one customer service worker hang up on me after I asked a simple question. When I called today they told me they canceled my order even after I was told it would ship Monday. I will never buy from them again.
Northern Tool has Mediclean in stock for $137.00 which is priced at 4 times the regular retail price found any place else. I called them and specifically asked if this price was for a case or a single bottle, and they confirmed it being for a single bottle. This country is scrambling for assistance and Northern Tool is seeing to it that the can screw over anybody for the sake of getting their money. I will NEVER do business with scum like Northern Tool. They get zero stars from me.
They charged $53 for chain saw repair in Matthews store NC. I brought it back 2 times because it doesn't work.
No refund, they blame me and refused fix it., It sitting now in my storage building. People are not honest, keep out, don't trust them!
Tires for trailer are of very poor quality after short term use they develop bubbles and have to be replace every 6 months. Tires are proprietor and you cannot buy higher quality tires elsewhere so you are stuck with Northern Tool poor quality tires.
River is a customer service rep. That took over a problem I have with FedEx, a jack ordered from Northern Tool on 11/25/19. I know this time of year is also time to be patient. I understand what they go through having a son that works for UPS. Because of this I gave them 2 weeks past the first delivery date for more than enough time to catch up. River called me back and said she didn't think she was FedEx's best friend anymore but I knew that meant she was taking care of me, her customer. River is one of the most friendly, professional Customer Care professionals I have ever worked with. Doing everything she could to get a delivery to happen. Although FedEx called her back almost immediately promising delivery by the end of day 12/13, they did not show up. I saw the truck on my street over the weekend but passed by my home. River and a co-worker that I'm sorry I don't have his name, are both on it now. I'm impressed with River and hope she is recognized as an exceptional employee. As a retail manager myself, it's this kind of person that represents the company to the customer when things aren't always so smooth. She makes Northern Tool a better company. Thank you River!
Charged me 180.00 for expidited shipping on a jackhammer that should have showed up in 4 days. The jackhammer showed up 2 weeks later. Would not refund me my money for the shipping that i paid extra for. The tool should have been free shipping, but I needed it right away so I paid the added cost to ship it quicker. They just took my money. Offered me a 50 dollar gift card instead. What a piece of crap they are. Don't waste your money on these guys.
Bought a brand new honda gsv190 engine from them for $315 - installed the engine on the machine - pulley / 3 bolts / throttle cable - put in gas and oil - pulled cord engine started for 10 secs and sprayed oil everywhere - took the engine off and there was a hole right underneath the valve cover through the cylinder head - contacted them cause i wanted to return the engine / emailed pics of what they sold me ( a hole with an engine around it) and they tell me they need to review it - days went by - nothing. Had to contact again and again - Million dollar company cant cough up a return shipping label - its ridiculous - they want me to ship it back to them - which means im paying lets also not forget they want a restock fee for what? Your gonna put it back on the shelf - such $#*!S - what a waste of time and money
I will never order anything online from here again. Customer service people are rude and the return policy says product can be returned to store. Well when I wanted to return something they wanted me to ship it back pay the shipping plus the 15% restock fee. Therefore I dont get much of a refund.
I ordered A log peeler for my chainsaw, after a week I still had not received notice that it had been shipped I called to see when they might be shipping it, the customer service rep was rude, smug and kept chuckling while he explained the finer points of patience to me. Then he said it had been shipped 3 days ago and I should be receiving notice when it gets into Canada, so I waited another week and still nothing.
I called again, this time I was told it had been shipped 2 days ago so I demanded to speak to someone in charge thinking that I might get someone who might just be honest, I'm pretty sure I was speaking to the same idiot I spoke to on the first phone call. That night I got notice that it was tagged to be picked up by the shipper, but after another week it still hadn't left their warehouse! So I phoned again this asking for my money back, the woman said that it should have shipped and their would be a waiting period before I could get my money back, I explained that according to the tracking number it hadn't even left the warehouse yet, soooo after being on hold for 15 minutes she got back on the line and said they returned the money back to my card but it wouldn't show for 3 to 5 business days.
After all that 27 days later and Im still waiting for my money!
They not only have the worst service and employees they seem to take a lot of pride in it?
Bought online for$24.42. Junk. Returned. Item reduced to $15.99. Refund 15.99, restocking fee. I will avoid this business in the future, other smart people will too.
Answer: Absolutely horrible, you get the rub around with emails containing same useless info from multiple people, shop elsewhere and save yourself the stress and anxiety
