I joined Nextdoor Desert Hills in Phoenix, AZ. Be warned that, if you are a Trump supporter, and an NRA supporter, and you voice your beliefs, even when backed by research and studies, you will be harassed and abused, including by so-called leads. You have the option to report people. I don't like it and I don't do it, but I do leave reviews.
For safe topics, it is a good app, although people don't seem to sell much through it in my neck of the woods. But you can't beat it for lost pets.
Got kicked off for reasons I don't understand. To rejoin ND demands copy of Passport or Driver's license. NO WAY is ND entitled to know my Driver's license # or Passport # or DOB.
Our lead is progressive. So anything that sounds conservative is banned by lead, and anything progressive is not only allowed, but also posted by the lead. For example: Lead posts: Anti_Trump rally, everyone should go!. But saying like: "Gun safety classes at community center" - banned.
The biased handling of content by the "Leads" is of concern, who tend to be a small group of (mostly white) men, who seem to resent women who have opinions on anything other than casserole recipes. My account got suspended after a minor disagreement of opinion with a neighbor, there was no discussion, no example, nor explanation, just a canned message stating "violated terms not being helpful" despite having four years of membership. If it's truly a "neighborhood" forum, one would expect there would be dialogue to clear up any misunderstandings.
A great place to connect to your neighborhood to find or give recommendations, see what's going on or just say hi! Check it out!
Wow - my account was disabled after my first message which was letting a mother know I would pass on her message to my sister inlaw who helped her son after a major accident. After closer inspection I was notified that I hadn't competed my SURNAME! On top of that I couldn't change it even if I wanted to as I had to prove my FULL name to them first LOL
So this is a site that is arrogant enough to demand what personal information you have to share to the whole community of people you don't know - while at the same time shares your FULL address unless you go deep into the settings to disable it... Just because everyone else on the site is doing it - but ultimately let's you set up an account this way in the first place!
Clearly clueless about what happened with Facebook and need to open their eyes to what's happening with the Amazon boss if they happily assume their security is forever impenetrable
At some point I mentioned people's use of the nextdoor site to promote their own agenda and my account suddenly got suspended.
Mostly a soap box with people complaining. My disappointment is that they are discriminatory. If one person is self promoting their craft/ they will remove post and possibly disable access to using the app altogether but yet you WILL find others posting similiar things that they have made or looking for commissions and their posts even after they've been reported the posts remain. If they have a guideline this needs to be adhered to by everyone and enforced. Discriminatory business practice
Content is monitored mainly by "leads" who are volunteers and exercise their own personal biases or don't review content at all. Libelous remarks about neighbors are allowed to remain published with no recourse to have them taken down other than a time consuming process of contacting the website directly and wait over 24 hours to have offensive content removed. Political whining and badmouthing elected officials is commonplace and leads are selective in removing such content, depending on their own political views. The site is good for reuniting lost pets with owners and reporting crimes to neighbors. Not much else.
Nextdoor helps me to know what is happening in my neighborhood and others nearby. It helps me to know some of my neighbors.
You will not be sorry! Professional and hard working. Great equipment. What I thought had to be replaced, Jesse saved.
Nextdoor is a Extreme Biased organization... There are a half dozen problems with Nextdoor and the Censorship and Regulation of Speech is Public Enemy #1 Nextdoor Censors Anyone at Anytime for Any reason... Especially if you Do Not Toe the Liberal Line Free Speech
I find the Nextdoor. Com site helpful and informative more times than not. Most users provide and express concerns regarding events and situations that sometimes raise your interest and put you on alert which keep you aware in and around our neighboring communities.
Nextdoor is great for connecting with my actual, real neighbors. We help each other with things to do in our city, business recommendations, lost/found pets, safety concerns, and other issues. I like how for the most part, everyone is very respectful of each other in communications. When people aren't respectful, other neighbors put them in their place and remind them of appropriate communications. This website has been so helpful for me; I highly recommend it.
As per the title this last month I had send my dear ZZ the Princess Warrior home. This compassionate company came to my home, removed their shoes and proceeded to sit on my floor and hold and talk to me about this sadness.Ive never felt compassion like that before with regards to this situation. Dr. Kit even brought a leopard blanket to wrap her in. Also, a paw prints and a beautiful card week later. This I'd a first class business Christminded. Thankyou and God Bless JOURNEY.
I have been a member for many years. I like the fact I can gain information on things that only apply to our neck of the woods. Sure, there is the news on TV, the newspaper, the internet but, no other place will give you the news of just you own neighborhood. And great advice from buying products to helping other neighbors in need. I think Next Door is the best!!
Unlike others, I don't object to freedom of speech be it local or national politics and would rather see less censureship than more. I think a forum like Nextdoor is very usual for getting information to the public. And members should feel free to disagree and express that in a reasonable manner.
On a practical level, there should be more categories in the "for sale" listings, like holiday etc. there's too much to browse when you are looking for something specific or trying to sell something specific.
I started using Next Door in its very early stages sometime in 2011 or 2012. I immediately embraced it because we are in the digital age and it is a great way to connect with your neighbors and the concentric circles of your neighborhood. An invaluable tool to connect and communicate.
Answer: The negative reviews are honest reactions to being duped into sharing too much personal information (that Nextdoor now owns and will NEVER delete and will continue to sell to advertisers until your dying day) to join a site that seems friendly on the surface, but which does NOTHING to protect users. I was bullied by a convicted murderer, who is a Lead in my neighborhood--and I was banned from the site for complaining. Leads are nothing more than early adopters of the site who have been assigned power over other users so that Nextdoor does not have to police it's own site. In short: No. The negative reviews are not wrong. Heed them! I wish I had known before it was too late!
Answer: Forget about nextdoor and leads. Get a life, a real one. Don't waste your time with toxic online communities that tend to get the worst out of people. My advise is run away while you still have some dignity left.
Answer: Kay is right. That is their policy. However, don't expect them to hold to it. We have leads unfairly removing only some people's comments and Nextdoor does nothing about it. Best bet, dump nextdoor.
Answer: Neighborhood. Rocks is in development. Another 6 months.
Answer: Truth is like oil and water. As long as the scam artist have enough venture capital (other people's money) they will continue to shake the bottle leaving it a murky view obscuring the truth. Run out of cash, they'll be exposed for the incompetent boobs they are and the top dogs will clear out their bank accounts and move on to the next scam. One look at their "leading edge tech" pulled right out of the 1980's is proof enough they will die in the tar pits just like the fellow dinosaurs. Want a state of the art app? Check out https://wiggio.com or www.neighborhoodlink.com
Answer: Dallas, SiteJabber rates it at 16%. It would surely rate lower if there weren't so many fake positive reviews. Folks review Nextdoor either 1 or 5. The fives read like ads about Nextdoor's features and potential. The ones are written by real people and give accounts of how awful their experiences were.
Answer: Several other reviewers on this site have had the same thing happen to them. We have been fully banned from nextdoor (beyond just "suspension"), but they keep our profiles, and sometimes our names still appear in the neighbor registry. They refuse to remove us fully, I suppose, in an attempt to misrepresent our endorsement and participation there. It's clearly unethical, but their TOS states that they can do this, as any nd apologist will point out.
Answer: Here's a tidy answer from corporate... Hi Colleen, Thanks for getting back to me. Our Community Guidelines prohibit posting about Lead activity on the main newsfeed. If your Leads are inactivate and youre concerned about moderation in your neighborhood, you should reach out directly to Nextdoor Support. If you have any specific concerns I can help you with at this time, please let me know. Best, Amanda Nextdoor However, the minute you alert corporate to issues with leads in your community you'll find your account terminated. They are very protective of the information surrounding who really is controlling the activities on the boards. Most people in my community are under the misguided impression that corporate is in control. They don't even consider it is their neighbor who sits in judgement.
Answer: Nextdoor wants your full legal name, house number and address and your email address that they link all together. As an added bonus... They have a little map that you can click on. That way if, OMG, you offend someone the little map leads them straight to your house. Run, do not walk, away from this site. No good comes from Nextdoor.
Answer: Your name and address will be known to everyone who uses the NextDoor application and website. I don't suggest using it. I recently discovered that low income apartments in ghetto areas might be able to use the application to do crime. Car theft, asaaults, kidnapping and just about everything else under the sun.
