We monitor reviews for authenticity
I guess they have volunteer mods as part of their business model, people that don't know how to run a forum in a fair way. In my case, my wife's unpopular but reasonable comments were deleted while other comments attacking her were left to be seen, by other people in our neighborhood. It all depends on if the mod agrees with you and if not, attacks are ok? I think proper discussion should be allowed and obvious insults with no substance should be deleted. I can't see how this leads to any future success and see no reason to subject myself or family to potential retaliation. Nextdoor should pay people or more closely monitor to ensure safety. Save yourself the trouble and stay far away. Its only to spam you anyway and they don't care how they get the info.

So after deleting my account I guess it appears I am still there, you can't really delete yourself so my picture and info is still up. I don't think I like that, oh well, stay away, at least after reading everyone else's messages I can see I am not alone and so probably they will be belly up soon.
If they would send the postcard, but I just deleted. Too much of a hassle to get membership
Don't let them get your email, they will send you junk/useless email constantly. You will not be able to use their 'Unsubscribe', which will tell you something else.
I would give Nextdoor negative stars if there is a way! Let me just stop here for now and more to come.
Nextdoor corporate removed me as Administrator after I founded and grew our Nextdoor Neighborhood to over a hundred. All went fine until HOA Board got wind of something out of their control and started making false statement to Nextdoor Corporate. Nextdoor rolled over like a puppy dog giving board members control, some of those are not even on board or moved awaty. HOA Board let the Nextdoor community site die, no surprise. Nextdoor sucks, their policies suck. Nextdoor will die slowly and sadly for not supporting the majority.
If I could this site would get a big fat zero!
Nextdoor should moderate, because the Leads have to much power!
Love this site! It helped me to get a perfect job in MY neighborhood and has kept us informed on what's going on around us. We got a few freebies from our generous neighbors as well. Just glad we took the opportunity to sign up for it when we received a flyer in the mail!
My experience with Nextdoor has been very positive. People have used it respectfully, and tried to share useful information and to cultivate community. What you get out of it depends on how your community uses it. It has worked great for our neighborhood.
I am very surprised at all the negative reviews here!
The area in which I live is a very friendly one and Nextdoor adds to the ease of sharing that we all enjoy! It allows us to post collaboratively and share our ideas for improvement with our community. The Nextdoor "contact help" folks have been extremely helpful, and the leads with whom I've spoken have been very knowledgable. I recently became a lead myself and haven't had to edit/lock/remove a single post (really the way it should be because our neighborhood is pretty self-aware and self-monitoring). I am so happy to be part of our Nextdoor community and love all that Nextdoor offers!
I love Next Door. I don't know what all the bad reviews are about! It's free, after all, and just WORKS beautifully. It's up to the users in each neighborhood to make it good or not.
Now you make this info public. This is and can effect me and my family.
We have a "lead" who has a history of harassing members of our non-profit organization (past and present) and some of our volunteers. He has actively campaigned against issues (a rule violation or leads) and called members at home to harass them about their votes on his push-poll designed to harass our non-profit organization. Of course, there's not much Nextdoor can do because his harassment is mostly out of the Nextdoor forum.
It's now at a point that people are discussing restraining orders due to the non-stop emails, phone calls, maximum length voicemails (several a day) and accosting people in the neighborhood.
There should be term limits on Nextdoor leads. Ours is clearly abusing his authority and treating Nextdoor like his own personal fiefdom.
Not sure how "Leads" are selected but we have one that is out of control. Deletes people's post when she doesn't agree with them. Locks her own posts so no one can response to her. And if she doesn't like you she can have your account locked. Such a horrible process. NextDoor needs to put their own moderators in place, because all it takes is one person like this lady to run everyone off of the NextDoor site for our neighborhood.
My review title is just three points out of many what is wrong with Nextdoor in a nutshell. There are more problems. If your lead becomes a dictator, sleek dictator, the customer service does not want to get involved, so the dictator makes stronger her or his dictatorship in your neighborhood. You can be very easily ostracized for having different view on any given issue, your posts deleted, and you have no recourse because the customer service is overwhelmed with such cases. They send you a form letter that your voice will be taken into consideration.
If you live in the neighborhood and you go through the motions of registering and the lead does not know you, you will not be accepted unless you visit your lead and introduce yourself. If you want to keep your identity private, there is no way. Even though they know your address the lead person writes to Nexdoor "fake name" and you may write as many letters to customer service as you want. Nobody listens. That is what had happened to me.
There is no out box on your account. I was lost to what I sent, partially when my submissions had been deleted.
Privacy concerns regarding bigger areas - in my area there are 7 adjacent communities. People use it to advertise their businesses.
I have been using yahoo groups in the past. They have nice searchable archives. Nextdoor does not have that and CS wrote me they are not planning to introduce such search. By date you can find everything on yahoo groups on Nextdoor it is impossible, they just do not have that.
The admin of our neighborhood controls everything. Even though messages comply with nextdoor.com, she deletes them "just because." The worst in people comes out. Beware, stay away, avoid.
Beware that thieves and racists exist and might show up anywhere but Nextdoor gives us an opportunity to discuss what's going on in our neighborhoods. I have some homeless camps and there is drug and robbery activity daily in our back alley. We also have a constant stream of car prowls and mail theft. This is a fact, not racism. The witnesses report various colors of people perpetrating these crimes.
Horrible app being driven by power hungry leads! NextDoor is awful!
After using the site I became a lead and tried to get a neighborhood watch started, people I thought had integrity were made leads and during a personal incident and my time away those individuals choose to slander my family remove me as a lead and jeopardize the safety of my family by allowing my address to be public.
I live in a forested mountain subdivision where homes aren't close together. Some people move here because they don't want to know their neighbors, or want privacy. In 17 years there's never been a way to communicate let alone know what's going on. There are plenty of issues with our water district, people who like to foment trouble, and those whose egos drive their behavior. I suppose people aren't too different anywhere. Since we started Nextdoor there is an exciting sense of community and immediacy. One neighbor had a roof fire. It was posted on Nextdoor. Four people who didn't even know the owner's names showed up to see what they could do to help. Someone noticed a suspicious truck driving around and posted it. Others weighed in on seeing it. It was reported to the sheriff. If a number of neighbors hadn't monitored this activity, it would have operated under the radar and the neighborhood left vulnerable. We had an arson fire in dry woods which luckily was extinguished quickly. However, the news was posted on Nextdoor and there were 145 homeowners keeping watch. Recommendations sought and given for a roofer, a reputable company to pump septic tanks. Great responses an personal experiences shared. A discussion about the hot topic of our water district and a problem with claims of high water usage and resultant billings and how to deal with proving actual usage and what to do about it. Water conservation tips shared. And much more. All of this remained civil. No accusations or name calling. If anyone gets out of line they can be reminded of the guidelines. Or muted. That should be rare. A sharp knife or scalpel can be used to kill-- or to perform a life-saving surgery. Likewise, Nextdoor is a valuable tool that is can be used to build community or to tear one down. It's the people who use the tool who determine which it is, not the tool itself. Nextdoor is a decided asset to our community..
Please think twice before initiating Nextdoor for your community or joining your community page. I have witnessed over the last 6 months our community being torn apart. It inspires rude, curt, harsh, insulting, hostile and defamatory statements to be made. You see a side of your neighbors you gave never seen before. Fights are started and long time friendships ruined. Leads have an enormous amount of power and use it to support their own agendas. They will allow horrid conversations to continue if it supports how they feel on an issue and stop and/or delete those conversation that don't support their views while allowing controversy to grow. Nextdoor is very one sided in supporting Lead's action and disregard the multitude of complaints they receive from neighbors. Much of the damage is unable to be recovered from.
Recently discovered that one of the Leads for our neighborhood was a convicted felon and career thief! This guy has felony convictions as well as a 20+ year history of theft, fraud, identity theft, arson, criminal trespass, and more. As if that isn't bad enough... he advertises his computer "cleaning" company on our ND. This guy is the LAST person that needs to be a Lead on ND, but it is also terrifying that, with his history, he is using ND as a means of getting "work" and accessing peoples computers!
We have made NextDoor Admin Shane Knoll aware of this and he insists that there is nothing wrong with this... WTH!?
Stay away from ND... stay FAR AWAY!
Answer: The negative reviews are honest reactions to being duped into sharing too much personal information (that Nextdoor now owns and will NEVER delete and will continue to sell to advertisers until your dying day) to join a site that seems friendly on the surface, but which does NOTHING to protect users. I was bullied by a convicted murderer, who is a Lead in my neighborhood--and I was banned from the site for complaining. Leads are nothing more than early adopters of the site who have been assigned power over other users so that Nextdoor does not have to police it's own site. In short: No. The negative reviews are not wrong. Heed them! I wish I had known before it was too late!
Answer: Forget about nextdoor and leads. Get a life, a real one. Don't waste your time with toxic online communities that tend to get the worst out of people. My advise is run away while you still have some dignity left.
Answer: Kay is right. That is their policy. However, don't expect them to hold to it. We have leads unfairly removing only some people's comments and Nextdoor does nothing about it. Best bet, dump nextdoor.
Answer: Neighborhood. Rocks is in development. Another 6 months.
Answer: Truth is like oil and water. As long as the scam artist have enough venture capital (other people's money) they will continue to shake the bottle leaving it a murky view obscuring the truth. Run out of cash, they'll be exposed for the incompetent boobs they are and the top dogs will clear out their bank accounts and move on to the next scam. One look at their "leading edge tech" pulled right out of the 1980's is proof enough they will die in the tar pits just like the fellow dinosaurs. Want a state of the art app? Check out https://wiggio.com or www.neighborhoodlink.com
Answer: Dallas, SiteJabber rates it at 16%. It would surely rate lower if there weren't so many fake positive reviews. Folks review Nextdoor either 1 or 5. The fives read like ads about Nextdoor's features and potential. The ones are written by real people and give accounts of how awful their experiences were.
Answer: Several other reviewers on this site have had the same thing happen to them. We have been fully banned from nextdoor (beyond just "suspension"), but they keep our profiles, and sometimes our names still appear in the neighbor registry. They refuse to remove us fully, I suppose, in an attempt to misrepresent our endorsement and participation there. It's clearly unethical, but their TOS states that they can do this, as any nd apologist will point out.
Answer: Here's a tidy answer from corporate... Hi Colleen, Thanks for getting back to me. Our Community Guidelines prohibit posting about Lead activity on the main newsfeed. If your Leads are inactivate and youre concerned about moderation in your neighborhood, you should reach out directly to Nextdoor Support. If you have any specific concerns I can help you with at this time, please let me know. Best, Amanda Nextdoor However, the minute you alert corporate to issues with leads in your community you'll find your account terminated. They are very protective of the information surrounding who really is controlling the activities on the boards. Most people in my community are under the misguided impression that corporate is in control. They don't even consider it is their neighbor who sits in judgement.
Answer: Nextdoor wants your full legal name, house number and address and your email address that they link all together. As an added bonus... They have a little map that you can click on. That way if, OMG, you offend someone the little map leads them straight to your house. Run, do not walk, away from this site. No good comes from Nextdoor.
Answer: Your name and address will be known to everyone who uses the NextDoor application and website. I don't suggest using it. I recently discovered that low income apartments in ghetto areas might be able to use the application to do crime. Car theft, asaaults, kidnapping and just about everything else under the sun.
