'Have a moderator who thinks she has the right to control content, and if she disagrees with it she just deletes it. The best thing this site offers are the addresses of the nasty people.
These sites have unscreened and often unscrupulous moderators who control EVERYTHING on the sites. They delete everything they don't like, such as opinions or suggestions and they use it as a means to abuse, retaliate and harm people they don't like or anyone who crosses him or her.
Moderators need good diplomacy skills and the ability to understand the sites' guidelines. Our moderator doesn't appear to know anything about the guidelines. She
Deletes things like crazy, even though they are perfectly legitimate. She promotes herself and post a bunch of inaccurate information that is misleading and potentially harmful.
It seems, as you can see from many other post, that the moderator positions seem to attract people looking for ways to make themselves look powerful and allow them to uncouthly manipulate others.
If Nextdoor did something to make sure they had quality moderators, as opposed to psychologically impaired creeps, there would be huge potential, especially with neighborhood safety. Sadly, all of this information is often put in the hands of potentially dangerous moderators who consistently prove themselves untrustworthy.
ND decided to be a happy place for appropriate discourse. Cannot reach any human to complain re violations of CA/Fed law. Interesting that CEO has law degree. Me too buddy. You decided to get in the business of regulating speech to keep things neighborly. But, you don't get to apply the "rules" subjectively or selectively. Next time you hear from me it will be a lawsuit I will win. No profanity. Cut and dried "rule". Bobak moron in my hood doesn't X off men who use profanity. Abuse women implicitly or explicitly. But a lot of women have been kicked off. I was kicked off. Yet nothing I wrote was anything like the screeds men get away with. Oh, and cannot complain cause cannot get ahold of a human. You need to respond to me. Have tried all methods but smoke signals. May show up. But will file lawsuit if you won't address these violations. Nextdoor has decided to be in the business of regulating speech. No one made you. Agreeing to the regulations does NOT mean we waive our legal rights. Period. So get better lawyers or Mr. CEO get acquainted with CA law. It is illegal, immoral, and just plain stupid, to apply the "rules" which are asinine in the first place, in a discriminatory fashion. People should get off. Boycott. Get the pitchforks and pound on your adorable corporate headquarters till you address this. You are likely making millions on this bull$#*! and don't care. Don't make me sue you. It is a pain in the $#*! for me. But this is outrageous. So I will if I have to.
It stinks.
We have an active civic association that represents appx. 850 homes. We have an email list but there are more emails for our area on NextDoor. So when sending out information about an upcoming event or a crime wave or something of general interest to the community, I send it both via email and post to NextDoor. Every once in a while a contentious dialogue gets going, but it either soon runs out of steam or someone intercedes to turn the conversation in a more positive direction. We also get public alerts about severe weather, road closure, crime, etc. I find it very helpful and have not encountered the issues that others have who posted negative reviews.
Most of the crime and safety alerts were by cranks trying to convince others that silly things like cars simply parking for a few minutes then leaving were stalkers or terrorists or some vast conspiracy to "target" them. They were insisting these should be reported to police! They were creating an atmosphere of fear and hate for anyone they didnt recognize. In one thread I tried to talk some sense into them of course they didnt want to hear it and when tbey attacked me the lead stepped in and publicly treated me like a child.
The site basically allows the worst idiots in your neighborhood to band together and spread fear, loathing, racism, hate and waste police man hours.
Which will only benefit nextdoor because they will recruit more members if they convince them everyone and everytbing are threats.
Faceless censorship where the moderator delete what s/he does 't want to hear. I do not think this site needs a moderator. If anything, have a Nextdoor employee be the moderator. This site reminds me of 1984! Remember, George Orweil! Nextdoor, track everything you post. Lastly, I do not like how you have to use a credit card to identify yourself and use your real name.
I live in the Aviara neighborhood in Ca. And our lead Carrie has decided this is her personal site to publically shame neighbors and shamelessly promote her own business. Since she is the lead, she controls all posts. What a joke. She is single handedly taking what could possibly be a great site for exchanging ideas and services to one of paranoia and un kind comments. I hope Nextdoor employees read some of these posts and re design their current business model, since they apparently have plans to monetize the site by adopting a "Craigslist" business format
I agree with all of the reviews on here about this website. It is nothing but a joke. I live in Doctors Inlet Reserve Middleburg, Florida. There is currently only one lead in our community named Dawn. There are many issues within our community. Definitely not the individual who should be the lead either. She picks and chooses what should be posted and deleted. Continually posting about vandalism from kids in our neighborhood when it is far from the truth- it is adults who are sick of being harassed by the HOA. I emailed nextdoor with concern for the safety of the kids within the neighborhood. The response I received back was how they NEVER take down websites. REALLY! No concern for the kids safety nor that their own rules they implement are not being followed. I have notified their venture capital- all three who fund them. Also currently notifying their 2016 press releases. Half which do not even seem legit. I would like CNN and one that is listed they have no concern for the safety of children. Think about it how does a website function with no revenue- one could only assume they could be selling your information.
I WOULD NOT EVEN GIVE ONE STAR- INSTEAD OF A STAR IT SHOULD BE PILES OF MOOT!
Google+ Communities has similar features without the outrageous censorship.
Funny to see here, people that have been suspended or kick out of our ND page.
Some people are wrongly under the impression that ND is a place to discuss radical political views, bashing others with different beliefs, profiling of the neighbors or to discriminate ethnicities. ND is a private site, if you won't follow the rules you accepted when signing up, don't try to forcibly change them, move on and open your own site.
If you voice your opinion people get upset with you and nextdoor moderator typically sides with them and blocks you, personally I feel discriminated against for being a c9ncerned homeowner and voicing my opinion.
Great way to get to know your neighbors. Talk about community problems. List unused items or ask neighbors for help.
Nextdoor has moderators that are politically motivated. If you disagree with your elected officials, you get bullied and attacked. The abusive comments toward you remain, the moderators remove the ones where you defend yourself. You are under continuous attack and when you contact Nextdoor, they attack you too. STAY AWAY! This website breeds abusers.
I joined, and within a day I had a male neighbor I've never met striking up a conversation that felt more like I was on a dating site. I tried to be polite, but he got very upset when I didn't respond to him in a "timely manner". For safety reasons, I told him my boyfriend lived with me, then I deleted my account.
I can no longer support this website. Our neighborhood has a member who posts personal information about other neighbors. She was removed from the site, but was allowed back on. And to make things worse, Nextdoor allowed her to be a Lead so she can control the content on the site.
I have since removed my account.
Once you start receiving emails from them you cannot unsubscribe. Avoid avoid avoid. They do not respond to emails. Avoid avoid avoid.
When I first heard of NextDoor it sounded great. But then the administrators became too demanding and unreasonable. After some research, I came across these facts:
1. NextDoor has an F rating from the Better Business Bureau.
2. Their founder was in a serious motor vehicle accident and left the scene without calling the police. Is that the type of neighbor you want?
3. What happens if someone posts that they will be at an event in the neighborhood? Isn't that making it known that no one will be at home? Since the site maps home addresses, isn't that too much of an invitation for a potential break in?
4. Their business plan makes it out to be more of a place to eventually swap or sell goods. How much more advertising will there be to promote all that?
5. The neighborhoods they create don't seem to match up with long standing boundaries, and the neighborhood names they come up with are not in any maps nor historical documents nor any news reports.
6. There seem to be too many abusive users and too many disgruntled users/former users. There is something really wrong with that website and those behind it. Beware! It seems great at first, but it becomes such a pain.
I find it is an excellent way to discuss the real nitty gritty that is going on in a community. I just noticed, most of the individuals that have rated "next door" poor, do not show their faces. Why not?
I'll enjoy participating in this venue for a long time to come.
Thanks 'Next Door"
Too much information shared and overbearing inane moderation. They let the first guy who sets your neighborhood up moderate so it's a crapshoot. All it did for me was make me realize what whiny b*tches I have for neighbors. Avoid.
Got a postcard with the wrong person's name on it at my home address. Now I am getting constant e-mails badgering me about joining Nextdoor. My private e-mail is not something I have shared with my neighborhood. This is very weird and creepy. Thanks to those of you who took the time to post about your adverse experiences with this business. Their e-mail not will be marked as junk and the postcard shredded.
Answer: The negative reviews are honest reactions to being duped into sharing too much personal information (that Nextdoor now owns and will NEVER delete and will continue to sell to advertisers until your dying day) to join a site that seems friendly on the surface, but which does NOTHING to protect users. I was bullied by a convicted murderer, who is a Lead in my neighborhood--and I was banned from the site for complaining. Leads are nothing more than early adopters of the site who have been assigned power over other users so that Nextdoor does not have to police it's own site. In short: No. The negative reviews are not wrong. Heed them! I wish I had known before it was too late!
Answer: Forget about nextdoor and leads. Get a life, a real one. Don't waste your time with toxic online communities that tend to get the worst out of people. My advise is run away while you still have some dignity left.
Answer: Kay is right. That is their policy. However, don't expect them to hold to it. We have leads unfairly removing only some people's comments and Nextdoor does nothing about it. Best bet, dump nextdoor.
Answer: Neighborhood. Rocks is in development. Another 6 months.
Answer: Truth is like oil and water. As long as the scam artist have enough venture capital (other people's money) they will continue to shake the bottle leaving it a murky view obscuring the truth. Run out of cash, they'll be exposed for the incompetent boobs they are and the top dogs will clear out their bank accounts and move on to the next scam. One look at their "leading edge tech" pulled right out of the 1980's is proof enough they will die in the tar pits just like the fellow dinosaurs. Want a state of the art app? Answer: Dallas, SiteJabber rates it at 16%. It would surely rate lower if there weren't so many fake positive reviews. Folks review Nextdoor either 1 or 5. The fives read like ads about Nextdoor's features and potential. The ones are written by real people and give accounts of how awful their experiences were.
Answer: Several other reviewers on this site have had the same thing happen to them. We have been fully banned from nextdoor (beyond just "suspension"), but they keep our profiles, and sometimes our names still appear in the neighbor registry. They refuse to remove us fully, I suppose, in an attempt to misrepresent our endorsement and participation there. It's clearly unethical, but their TOS states that they can do this, as any nd apologist will point out.
Answer: Here's a tidy answer from corporate... Hi Colleen, Thanks for getting back to me. Our Community Guidelines prohibit posting about Lead activity on the main newsfeed. If your Leads are inactivate and youre concerned about moderation in your neighborhood, you should reach out directly to Nextdoor Support. If you have any specific concerns I can help you with at this time, please let me know. Best, Amanda Nextdoor However, the minute you alert corporate to issues with leads in your community you'll find your account terminated. They are very protective of the information surrounding who really is controlling the activities on the boards. Most people in my community are under the misguided impression that corporate is in control. They don't even consider it is their neighbor who sits in judgement.
Answer: Nextdoor wants your full legal name, house number and address and your email address that they link all together. As an added bonus... They have a little map that you can click on. That way if, OMG, you offend someone the little map leads them straight to your house. Run, do not walk, away from this site. No good comes from Nextdoor.
Answer: Your name and address will be known to everyone who uses the NextDoor application and website. I don't suggest using it. I recently discovered that low income apartments in ghetto areas might be able to use the application to do crime. Car theft, asaaults, kidnapping and just about everything else under the sun.
