Newegg's reputation is mixed, with a notable divide in customer experiences. On the positive side, many customers appreciate the wide selection of tech products and competitive pricing, often citing timely deliveries and satisfactory purchases over the years. However, a significant number of reviews highlight serious concerns regarding customer service, particularly issues with product authenticity, delayed or unresponsive support, and complicated return processes. Customers frequently report dissatisfaction with how complaints are handled, leading to a growing sentiment of distrust towards the company. Overall, while Newegg remains a popular choice for tech purchases, its customer service shortcomings are a critical area for improvement.

Great product selection. Could not place order by phone, but overall great customer service.
I started using this site when my favorite IT guy kept referring me to them for everything little item I would need for my newest system. Cables, connectors. Everything. They are fast and competitive. And when a professional that I trust uses them regularly, what else can you say. They are very good.
I have been shopping here and love it. The customer service is great! They have fast shipping as well! <3
This used to be my husband's go-to site for his tech toys. But lately he has been relectant to buy from here because their prices are no longer competitive and they have added a bunch of stuffs that are not tech/computer related.
We also had one issue that was still sour in our mouths. My husband bought a wrong product by mistake and wanted to return but it was hard to get it touch with them and the customer service wasn't very helpful on when they will return the money. We had to wait over a month for the refund process to be completed.
I have purchased 3 computers from them on promotional no deferred interest programs. They purposely place monthly payments towards the promotional periods that end later, so the ones ending sooner fail to get paid off and incur finance charges. When you want to fight the charges, go ahead, but do so by fax, and don't expect any management to have a clue. Oh and don't expect to email anybody there, they don't do external emails for support.
I've been ordering from them since th late 90s and it has always been a great experience. Plus, now that Amazon.com will be charging taxes in Texas it is an even better choice. Newegg has always treated me well even when I had issues. A+
Newegg-proper is still OK, but...
Major problems with the Newegg Marketplace. If you get cheated in Newegg Marketplace, Newegg won't help. You're on your own. Newegg is not Amazon!
Quoting their policies they told me:
"The product was sold and shipped directly by the seller. Newegg is simply a platform."
So now they're just a "platform" to send products and wash their hands of them. I thought people buy from Newegg because they offer service and assurance that things will be OK. If I got a rock in a box, not just open-boxed used goods pre-configured with someone's random password, and with missing parts, I wonder if they'd still just be a 'platform.'
Yes, Newegg is selling on behalf of other sellers, and this is not new.
I know exactly what multichannel selling is. EBay and Amazon both has proesses in place for this. You are not forced to send emails to seller and pray to God you get some sort of resolution. I did not get what I ordered. They're saying "tough luck, that's your problem, go contact the seller."
Really? Is that eggsellent service? So all the branding of Newegg goes away in my mind, unless you tread carefully and only order from Newegg. If you order from the Marketplace, well, might as well just buy it from any shady dealer because you have no dispute escalation process and they claim they're just a 'platform.'
So if you're not ordering from Newegg Marketplace, they're probably still OK. But if it's not Newegg, you'd best stick with Amazon, where they actually have a system in place for resolutions and maintain some level of customer service for items they don't fulfill. Not emails and prayer.
I ordered a pair of headphones that were an older model but didn't realize it until I had already placed the order. Then I saw the 15% restocking fee and cringed. Luckily, if you don't open the merchandise and either contact them in the request RMA or chat with them online, they will authorize the RMA with a full refund. That is very reasonable and rightly so but some retailers are mean. Newegg isn't!
Usually very reliable. They seem to be adding many new non-computer categories via the "marketplace" style third-parties. Not sure I am a fan of this. My experience with these types is so-so at best. Seems most are Chinese based sellers who seem to exaggerate the functions and quality of their products (to put it nicely). So what if you can save 30% off on a tripod if the damn thing never works!
In regards to newegg.com themselves, they are great for any laptop or desktop computer stuff you need. I just advise being careful with the third party sellers.
Customer service was TERRIBLE. They will charge you for a product that was never sent, then recommend PLACEING ANOTHER ORDER as a fix. Your solution to being charged for something I didnt recieve is to do it again? Hmmm. RIGHT. Ill never do business with NewEgg again.
SPEND YOUR MONEY SOMEWHERE ELSE!
Excellent service. I order the wrong video card which didnt work with Vista and got a replacement within 3 day and with no restocking fee.
I ordered two laptops off of new egg. Seems to be like a smaller version of amazon, but just as reliable and solid of a site to buy products from.
Their customer service was good two years ago. Today, I was treated like crap: hung up on during a phone call and ignored in live chat.
My problem: I had a hard drive fail and was told that the "service net replacement plan" I paid for wouldn't replace the item.
They scam you into purchasing replacement plans that have loopholes for everything. I shouldn't be surprised though... the plan has a limitation of coverage for defects due to "acts of God." Seriously?!?!
Avoid newegg if you're the type of person who wants their coverage plans to be well worth the extra money.
Damn scammers.
They have a horrible customer service. I ordered a computer U build kit and the parts came definitive. This was annoying but things happen. I sent them back a week latter got them back. New parts were damaged sent everything back. Then the said they were not going to refund money and that is what they did. Do not buy from them.
Customer service is awesome whenever a problem arises. Love the reviews and have left many. Prices Rock! Never a complaint from me. This sounds biased, but its true!
Great selection, good prices, great customer service. I've bought tons of stuff from them. You can't beat their database of attributes for finding an item, much better than Amazon for that. Amazon barely give a description at all, but Newegg lets you narrow down your search. Like: monitor: resolution, type, portrait, etc. Love it.
I have been using this site for years to build my own personal computers. Do some research, gather a list of items you would like to buy and newegg probably has it. I've never had any issues with shipping or delivery.
It is not the cheapest option out there for buying computer parts, cell phones, etc. but it may be one of the most convenient.
REASONS TO USE:
[1] Large inventory
[2] Site has been around for years
REASONS TO LOSE:
[1] Slightly hectic design
I must admit how much I honestly enjoy shopping at newegg for computer supplies. I love the product review feature, people spend a lot of time posting honest reviews. I think their prices are highly competitive and they have a good return policy which is always important when purchasing computer supplies. If you think you are purchasing something that has the potential of being returned make sure you check the return policy before you open the packaging. Shipping time is normally in a few days I think three has been the maximum. I have never used them for things like televisions or automotive parts just computer hardware.
NewEgg provided the worst online experience that I have ever had and I have been an online (almost exclusively) shopper since the late 1990s. As a software developer, I have always preferred to stick to online shopping rather than hitting the mall...
On Black Friday I ordered an LCD TV that they were running a promotion on. NewEgg instead sent a dissimilar monitor that was half the price. Upon receiving the item, I immediately contacted them, using their online form, waited a couple days and then contacted them again. After contacting them many times (email, online form, etc.) over three weeks, I have never heard a word back from them. I finally just sent them item back because I was at the end of the 30-day return period.
Not a word from them, nothing. So good for a guaranteed 24-hour response. Now I will also have to incurr a 15% restocking fee charged on an overpriced item that I did not order.
NewEgg sucks...
Its a good website with computer products with a nice easy on the eyes look.
Answer: The reason why i gave a bad review was because i ordered a phone for my wife, An I-phone 5 and NewEgg.com only sent a box with the manual and a charger for the phone. I called NewEgg.com and explained to them and they stated i needed to wait while they investigate, they never got back to me so i called them again. The person i talked to put me on hold then came back to me and stated she was checking this what was going on and kept putting me on hold for a total of 45 minutes to only come back and tell me that i need to send them a picture of the box and contents. I have no clue what my wife or children did with the box now i am screwed. 219.00 down the drain. This was the first and last purchase i will make until the get this straight.
Answer: Amazon is much better, more reliable and customer friendly, especially if you are an international buyer (live outside U. S)
Answer: Use paypal when you buy, because if you have a serious problem Newegg will do everything it can to keep your money. The only thing they respect is getting a negative reputation with paypal.
Answer: Pay Pal will not help you. After several hours on the phone with PayPal and which ever company you bought from, you will still ultimately get screwed by PayPal or end up waiting 2 months before you get you money back, if at all.
