Avoid at all costs! We hired a medium size van and as it happens it was over a bank holiday weekend the van was dropped off Friday afternoon and was supposed to be collected at 12.00 midday on the Saturday.
We had the van back on the drive at 10.30am on the Saturday so I rang and informed them it was here if they wanted to come early... I was advised they couldn't contact the drivers but it should be collected at 12.00 but allow them till 12-30pm just in case they are delayed. No problem I thought, I was advised if it wasn't collected it would be first thing Tuesday morning... I was concerned mainly in case the van was somehow damaged in between times but had no choice but to accept this.
Tuesday morning arrived and no collection so I rang and got the most rude, obnoxious, arrogant person, after getting know where I asked to speak with a supervisor I'm still waiting. I advised him i had already parked their vehicle for 3 days to which he replied laughing you've already told me.
Excellent service, zero to complain about. We intended to book online but had a query so rang and Katie could not have been more helpful. Both the guys who delivered and collected the van made it really easy and were friendly and polite. Could not wish for anything more from a vehicle hire.
I was very worried having read the negative reviews after I booked but Katie L was really helpful and delivered. The van was great, Mercedes Vito only a few miles on the clock and it appeared bang on time and was collected the same way. We wanted to go to Europe and not many companies we could find would allow us to do that over the Brexit dates so fair play, they found us one.
Steer clear of this company. They don't deserve one star. They let me down hours before the completion of a house sale/self move and took nearly £400 from my bank account. 6 days later i still haven't had a refund. I have contacted Trading standards to report them.
Someone please give Katie L a raise.
She is patient, consistent, comes back to you asap and her comms are very clear and consice.
Great customer service. Well done Katie L
Excellent customer service, and really helpful. I needed to re-hire a van used for a video shoot the previous week for an urgent re-shoot. KatieL, the lady who was dealing with my request, was brilliant. She quickly identified the vehicle that was previously hired to ensure it was exactly the same, found all the relevant details we had previously provided to save time, and had the new booking completed and confirmed in no time. She kept in contact with me throughout the day to let me know if any additional information was needed and to confirm everything was going ahead as planned, which was really reassuring.
Don't go near them
They charge nearly double for renting a van they don't own
They are just agents
Go direct to a firm that has vehicles
You have been warned
Very helpful. Thank you katie L for your assistant. Great good customer service. Thank you for a pleasant experience.
Great service from Katie L. Was searching the web site from Australia when I got a pop up from Katie L and I gave her the details of what we were looking for. After a couple of emails we had a van booked and paid for.
I have used Nationwide three times now and every time it was hassle free. The booking process is simple and quick and pain free. The van arrives when they say and is picked up when they say. The dink and scratch check is collaborative which is refreshing. I will definitely use them again.
Sent to Nationwide through a third party and they took our booking then, when confirming details, they had got them wrong. When we tried to amend these details they said we would need to start a brand new booking: despite them saying they had taken our money. The money never came from our account but they kept harassing us to give over card details even when other members of staff said the details were still on record and we didn't need to.
After two weeks of this, making the booking three times, handing over card details twice, and still receiving no confirmation Marcelle, who appears to be incompetent, got aggressive via e-mail (in a comic sans font no less) and told us they would not be fulfilling the booking.
Marcelle's an idiot, no one else knows what's going on, it felt like a scam and, despite it going to cost us more to get a different booking on shorter notice it feels like a let off.
Awful experience. Nationwide subcontracted my van Hire to Go Rental. The van arrived late and had over 30 separate areas of damage.
They were supposed to collect it at 5pm on a Friday. When they didn't come I called Natiinwide who very aggressively said I should have read the small print as they didn't have to collect it for 48 hours and I was responsible for it until then.
Worst of all - they found 3 additional areas of damage on the vehicle (definitely not caused by me) and, in what appears a well-rehearsed scam, they withheld my deposit.
It took a complaint to the BVRLA and 6 weeks to get it back. My worst rental experience in 30 years.
Katie was friendly, helpful and efficient and answered my questions. Booking took no time at all. Thank you
Katie L was a legend! We hired a minibus from another supplier but they let us down on the morning of delivery. I called Nationwide and Katie sorted us out with a replacement for the same day. Top service. Will definitely use again.
I recently hired a tipper truck via the NationWide Hire website for 1 day and paid £167.99
As per website T&C the delivery instruction stipulate that the truck should be delivered to a specific address. My home address has no direct vehicular access from the road stipulated in our address but has access from the road behind us so I put the delivery address as the house beside this access point and waited on the day with my mobile. The booking required my mobile number and T&C stipulated that 'The main driver of the vehicle must be present on delivery and collection to sign for the vehicle at the requested time of delivery'
The hire period started from 1100 and I had taken the day off work. I checked the road and found the vehicle before 1100. It was locked and left and no attempt had been made to contact me. I contacted NationwideHire immediately and they reported that the keys had been put through the post box of our neighbours. The residents of this house had just left for a weeks holiday.
I contacted Nationwide 3 times that day and most days subsequently by phone and email (attached). NationwideHire declined to put me in contact with their local agent and from the start refused to accept responsibility for putting the keys thro the door of a locked house and not contacting me. I never had possession of the truck
Despite multiple phone calls/emails no attempt was made to resolve the situation - I enquired whether the local agent had a spare key but was refused contact details.
The following week I informed NationwideHire that the resident had returned but no attempt was made by NationwideHire to contact them to collect the truck. Eventually the resident gave me the keys and I again contacted NationwideHire and they finally collected the truck. I have never had access to or used the truck.
I discovered yesterday that NationwideHire had debited £1343. 84 from my account
They have also subsequently changed their T&Cs from 'The main driver of the vehicle must be present on delivery and collection to sign for the vehicle at the requested time of delivery'
To
'The main driver of the vehicle usually should be present upon delivery and collection to sign for the vehicle at the requested time of delivery, however, on some occasions if you are not at home, we will post the keys through the letterbox so please make sure you provide us with the correct address at the time of booking'
Customer Care has been singularly unhelpful
I have had to initiate a legal process to try and recover the money
I can only advise anyone thinking of using this company to not do so
Service was excellent - van turned up in the timeframe agreed and pick-up couldn't be easier, since you can leave the key in a safe place. Rates were very competitive for one-way hire too. Well done - will use again.
Our first time experience with renting out an 18 ton truck for our company. Lots of unknown staff to go through before/during and after the renting. Very helpful and easy to work with members of staff! Sherrie - super positive service!
We rented 3 vans, unfortunately, the cars were very old and were not spacious enough for our luggages, even though we made it very clear that each of us have one piece of luggage. We requested a baby seat for a two year old, which was not provided. We had to purchase it. As of now they hold all the security deposit for the 3 vans because of small damage to one of the vans. I sent several emails for follow up and clarification, but they totally ignored my emails.
I hired a vehicle and asked for either a sprinter or Luton Body van and was told that both were available only to received a text 30 minutes after the vehicle was supposed to be delivered that they did not have a van available and that the booking may be cancelled, after calling up and stating this I get a phone call from another Hire company that will supply me a van that was on its way to a body shop for repairs and I will need to pay another £150 which will be refundable, shouldn't this be paid by Nationwide?
Katie L was a really great help. This was my first time booking a van through the company and was made to feel at ease. Very easy to book. Would definitely recommend. Great prices also!
