🚩 major red flag. The very little that they offered for the damages that our items sustained, including an antique item that cannot be replaced, was very low. In order for us to accept the very law offer of $150 we would have to sign a statement that says that we will not publicly share our negative experiences with the company. This is very unethical in my opinion.
We had issues with communication, specifically with James and Jeanette and Danielle. From our original estimate, we ended up paying more than double. You don't really get an idea of the cost until it's too late to back out.
The movers for the move out did a good job, despite that there were some damages. However, one threw up in our house and another was trying to mooch food off of us. The move in was less than optimal.
The movers were certainly contractors which Midland said they don't do. They did not have anything that showed that they were employees of Midland except for the driver's paperwork. Their truck had no logo and they were not in any type of uniform. Randomly they'd call more local guys for help.
I labeled my boxes super well, but I still had to read every single one of them for the movers and tell them where to go. And they left without putting everything together that they took apart. I have moved across country about seven times so I know what I'm talking about.
I honestly question if James is a real person because when I did reach him a few times, he came across AI generated. Once we signed the original contract, James was incredibly hard to reach even though he said that he would be my contact person from beginning to end. Absolutely not true. It was a nightmare just to try to get information on how to apply for damages.
I would highly recommend going with a different company! I would never hire a midland again!
Midland Van Lines is the worst moving company I've ever dealt with. Their reviews are fake. While the sales rep, Steven, initially reassured us with reasonable pricing and delivery promises, everything fell apart after that. Frank, another representative, was shockingly rude—accusing me of being a fraud and dismissing issues as a "language barrier." Delivery, initially promised between November 22-24, was delayed to the 26th, and they called at 11 PM on the 24th with no explanation.
When the movers finally arrived, they demanded an extra $2,000, claiming their "eye measurement" was better than the dimensions we had carefully provided. To top it off, the lock on the truck was frozen due to the cold, and—unsurprisingly—they charged us an additional fee for that too! Customer service was equally unhelpful and rude. The delivery process dragged on for a month, with constant delays and hidden fees—charges for walking a meter, packaging, long rides, and more. It felt like they intentionally added costs at every step.
To make matters worse, every person I dealt with was horrible: Steven, Chris, Frank, Jared W., and Mike provided the worst customer service imaginable. They were rude, unprofessional, and completely unhelpful.
And the cherry on top—they broke most of the furniture!
We received furniture after 1 MONTH!
This company is nothing but a scam with deceptive practices and incompetent staff. Avoid Midland Van Lines at all costs!
Let's just say, Midland knows how to squeeze dollars out of your pocket. The move was generally a good one.
Pickup was accelerated by a day, Tuesday. The crew was good at wrapping. Said good things about our rate AND gave us a delivery date. (Remember, the pickup guys gave us a delivery date of November 26th)
Back to the beginning, David & Gary at the office were very good at hooking the deal. We sent pictures for the estimated square footage. After pickup we were told that square footage may be adjusted.
Here is where things went bad. They being Dave and Gary told us when the delivery was going to be. They did not accept the date that we would be available at the house for delivery. We had told them three different dates that we would be able to accept delivery on November 26th.
We made sure that we were at the new home on the delivery date, the following Tuesday of the next week, November 26th.
We called the office number Monday (the 25th) and things started to go south.
Our "delivery date" turned into a "release date". The Midland representative on the phone went directly to paragraph 25 of the contract. Like he has done it a million times before. Midland has 14 days from the "release date" to begin transportation.
Called Wednesday and the representative stated our items were released but not picked up yet. We also asked for a 72 hour notice of delivery. Another point to remember. 72 hour notice.
We received a phone call Thursday of that same week at 6:30 pm that our furniture would be delivered the next day. What? We needed the 72 hours to arrange for a shuttle truck because the semi could not get close to our new home. A few friends from our new Church were professional movers and wanted to help. Well that was out.
So of course Midland could provide the shuttle truck for added costs($1,115.00), cash before delivery. Otherwise, our furniture would be placed into a parking lot nearby.
So our driver arrived via a U-Haul shuttle van Saturday morning. He was the best part of our Midland adventure. He stated that he picked up our furniture that past Monday. The Monday that I called and before Wednesday when I called again where the phone representative told me our furniture was still in storage.
Conclusion, Pickup and Delivery was very pleasant. The Office Representatives do not know what is going on. They are not in the information loop.
You can expect, easy pickup & easy placement into your new home. You can also expect to pay additional cash for that delivery. You can expect confusion and stress scheduling the delivery date. You can expect the promise to adjust the volume of space and cost to be broken.
Let's just say this, Check the rating of your movers. If you are paying for the move yourself, watch out.
DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY! If I could give zero stars, I would. I was given incorrect information from the beginning of this process in June, all the way to the very end in November. This company is completely incompetent in doing anything correctly.
This entire thing was a headache. I could rarely get ahold of people. I dealt with Caleb, Gary, Thalia, and Frank. It would take multiple calls, emails, and texts to each person to even get a response days later.
Eli, the foreman was nasty and aggressive when he arrived. He added $1k onto my price with cubic feet AND packing supplies which I had already provided. When I spoke with Frank at customer service to see why it was so much he kept talking over me rudely and repeating to me to read my contract and the fine print. He also kept asking me why I signed if I didn't understand correctly.
Eli asked me when I want the items to arrive. I said Friday 11/8, but then I also mentioned how I thought it takes up to 14 days. He said "No, I will get it there on this date." When Friday came, I called customer service and was advised my items were in storage until 11/8 and how it takes 14 days from that date to arrive. I asked why I was told something else and he had nothing to say.
When we finally got our items, we were charged an extra $16, even though we already paid during the first pickup. I understand it's only $16, but it's principle that this company will take and take and take any chance they get. They didn't communicate it was already handled with Eli. The driver wouldn't start until we paid it and no one from midland vans was answering numerous phone call attempts.
Moving is stressful to begin with, and moving out of state is even worse. I highly recommend you do NOT use Midland Van Lines, it's a complete crock, ran by crooks. They aren't a moving company-they are a broker who sub out to others drivers, they do not own their own vans or have their own truck drivers. They claim they aren't brokers, but they 100% are. Save the time and money and do yourself a huge favor and use another company!
AVOID MIDLAND VAN LINES AT ALL COSTS! We have an attorney, contacted the Attorney General's Office, and filed a complaint with FMCSA/BBB. A $16,500 move became a $34,500 move with wire transfers, Zelle/Venmo payments to Russian bank accounts. Derek from Midland offered a contract for $16,500 (partial pack move). Midland Van Lines is not your mover. They broker vendors to negate ownership of their failures. Two days before our move, Midland requests full assessment of our items to assure the right size truck. We are told our contracted quote of $16,500 was incorrect. We owe $26,500. We paid it. On moving day, Deluxe Express (vendor) arrives. They refuse to honor the partial pack as contracted for. We owe them $2500 via wire transfer for service. Upon completion, they inform us, "if we want our belongings to arrive safely and on time, we owe a 20% tip, $2500, to them via Zelle. Two days before arrival at our new home, our driver from AJ Express Inc (vendor) calls. They will not be able to get their truck in our driveway. We owe them $2500 for delivery via wire transfer. If we do not pay the $2500, we must unload their truck & move our belongings ourselves. The night before delivery AJ Express Inc demands full payment via Zelle. They arrive at our home and demand $2500 to unload our belongings off their truck. Our items are damaged / broken. Devastating.
Midland Van Lines uses Carrier Global Inc to transport cars. A man arrives to pick up our truck with his own Ford Explorer and Home Depot trailer. His wife communicates with us, angrily, when we ask for written documentation of transport. They refuse. They deliver our vehicle at midnight and were aggressive when we were not available. Midland/Carrier offered no help. All payments were made to the personal Venmo of the wife of driver. Rapid Auto Group LLC transports my Lexus SUV. My Lexus is lost with no communication from the driver or Carrier Global. We are filing a police report to report my Lexus as stolen.
Midland Van Lines is the worst company to work with.
We were told by James that Midland was family & veteran owned. James had also given an guaranteed delivery date of August 5th to my family. All my lifelong belongings and everything important to us had not shown up. I called Midland several times, and never had anyone pick up the phone. Dominique had finally answered but she was very rude and seemed agitated, she didn't listen to anything we had to say and numerously cut us off and told us our guaranteed delivery date was a typo and regardless of it being a signed contract, that she can't help us and went to hang up the phone. After multiple calls and emails, we were told stuff would be delivered to Virginia on either August 27, or August 28th. Many of our family members changed their plans for the week so our mother could find the first flight out Virginia and help out with the move. It is the night of the 28th and we are now being told our belongings never left, and that we will be getting them A WEEK from now. We have been lied to and deceived by this company and their antics.
This is costing us thousands of dollars for our family. Midland will ignore calls and be rude towards you for no reason. DO NOT use this company.
Midland Van Lines is the worst company I have ever worked with.
I just graduated college and started a graduate program across the country. I had to move from Chicago IL to Richmond VA, alone, and after experiencing severe mental trauma, I decided handling it myself was too much and hired a moving company. I chose Midland because I saw on a website that they were family owned and veteran owned, two very important things to me. We discussed terms, and were off to the races.
After picking up my items on July 28, I had a guaranteed delivery date, as per our contract, of August 5. Two days before delivery I said all my goodbyes, got in my car and took off for my new life adventure. When I got to Richmond, what did I find? NOTHING.
After calling many times, I finally spoke to Dominique at Midland, and found she was INCREDIBLY rude and patronizing. I was told that my guaranteed delivery date was a typo, despite being signed by both the company driver and myself, and they would not honor it. Two WEEKS after, and calling them nearly every day, I was told my lifelong belongings were due to be delivered on either August 27 or 28. My mother booked a $900 flight on short notice, as since my classes have started I cannot be present to receive my belongings, and flew out to Richmond.
I am now writing this review, the night of August 28, after being told my items never even made it into transit, and are still a week out from scheduled delivery.
I have NO WORDS to express how furious I am. I moved across the country to forge a new path, and was made a fool by trusting this malicious, manipulative company.
Nearly every day this past month I have called, and have been ignored, patronized, lied to, and manipulated.
Do not give this company one red cent.
This company is the worst! The initial conversation with Derek seemed great until we paid and then were told from other employees what we were told by Derek was not true. No one called us back for 2 weeks when we questioned why our things are 2 weeks late. Items came totally destroyed and. When they arrived at our condo they refused to drive into the subdivision and instead unloaded all of our possessions on the side of the road even though they charged us to bring it into the house. The movers just stood there while we all packed the items in our cars and drove it to the house. 3300.00 to move 323 sq ft from Buffalo to Florida and half of our things are destroyed. Use anyone else but Midland!
If you want to move your stuff go fing some another company, they are liars, they gonna charge you 4 X times more then they promised.
I had contract to move with this company and they just decline my moving and i did it by my own!
Add to my Oct. 11,2023 review: I can verify Many Missing (stolen) items from 3 wk.move. Picked thru. Every day I sadly look for those antique and unique items. Midland makes complaining so difficult I can't do it. Don't Believe The Quote. Don't Use!
Quoted $20,000 with $8000 deposit. 3 days before pickup raised it to $30,000. Took 3 weeks for IL to NH. During move demanded $1800 to use 2 smaller trucks in NH. This was a scam as big single truck used; no refund of $1800. Would not unload unless balance paid in Cash; would not accept bank certified check- -I went to bank and got $4400 cash.
Some new clothes items missing ( Lands End winter jacket $200, as example.
Threw cardboard, tape, and paper everywhere and refused to remove mess: "we are movers, not garbage men". I had paid beforehand for complete unpacking and removal of debris: "Adrian: just relax, you won't have to do a thing".
Was told to expect all movers to have 5+ years experience. Instead 3 of 4 movers were under 25 and lived locally and gave impression that this was just an odd day job they were hired for. They were not movers.
Final impression: a big scam, posing as movers but in reality a group renting trucks and hiring men wherever the final destination is. Don't trust Adrian ("have a blessed day"), Michal who raises price by 50%. Or Ivan, who would not unload until I gave him cash. Since they would not take a check I assume they split the $4400 amongst them. A little bonus, no doubt.
Guys, please don't go with this moving company. I had the worst experience with them. I ended up paying $725 more than was I was told and billed
Do NOT use this company if you value your belongings. My grandmother moved from PA to NC into assisted living and this company absolutely DECIMATED multiple pieces of furniture and many other items. One of which was a priceless hand carved elephant statue from an old friend, who is no longer with us. This statue cannot be repaired, as they lost the piece that snapped off. They also used her good linens to "wrap" fragile items, ruining many of her good linens. What glass they did not wrap up was simply tossed into a box filled with other loose glass and cooking pots. When the truck finally arrived, they insisted that they would not be able to complete the delivery unless she upgraded $1500 to a larger truck, to be paid directly to the driver. These people were aware that her glass curio cabinet was smashed and not only still brought it to her unit, but tried to make HER clean it up. She has tried several times to get a claim form for her destroyed items but has been ignored every time. She has tried calling several times to get this resolved without filing suit and has been ignored every time. It has been over 4 months now. Keep in mind, the original quote she received was $6,000. After all of this, it jumped to $13,000. Would you pay $13,000 for a quarter of your belongings to be destroyed? Please, enjoy these photos of what this company has to offer and of how well they take advantage of retirees in their 70s. "Expert moving" my@$$.
We recently just moved and the Midland Van Lines crew did an outstanding job with our items! They were stellar! They arrived on time, ready to go, and had all the tools and supplies needed to do the job properly. They had all the pads and other materials necessary to protect the house while moving boxes and furniture. The team did a great job of carefully dismantling furniture and wrapping pictures and furniture securely. A very professional at what they do! I'll return to use their services in the future, and I highly recommend this company this company to anyone who is looking for help with packing and moving!
Do not use this company! They lie about costs, they take about a month to deliver with no updates. Worst experience EVER!
Update- still no luck with my belongings. Customer service is GARBAGE. Never answers the phone and finally when you are able to get through and are extremely frustrated she has no empathy, no respect towards the customer and just says sorry it's out of our hands when the delivery guy is dropping off other people items he'll call you. I had a manager tell me I'd have my things no later than Monday and today it's Sunday with no phone call. This company is a JOKE. I probably would have been better off going with a broker instead of them. Update will be made when I hopefully finally get my belongings.
I was moving cross country which I had never done before. I hired Midland Van lines because I was told they are not a broker company and from start to finish I would be in their care. I paid $968.00 deposit. Only to have on the morning of my move 3 men from another moving company came charging me a pick up fee of $1229.00 and the to deliver my property would be $1229.00 when I was quote start to finish $2489.00. The gentleman from Midland Van Lines would no longer answer my calls the day of my pick up and after. I walked the guy around showing him everything to be moved (I have pics) and I had to be on the road for a deadline in Florida for a job. When my property arrived, yes, by a whole another moving company, 12 items of my property was stolen. When I called the guy that I walked around my house with, all he wanted to do was ridicule me over why I didn't just pack them with me, I HIRED A MOVING COMPANY WHOM I TRUSTED. When I called Midland Van Lines from another number the gentleman finally answered and was stumbling over his words to hear it was me, I asked my property was and he seemed very concerned but when I asked why he lied he swore it was not him. WHAT? He was the only one I spoke with! All I was told to do was file a claim. NO ONE looked into where my property was. I filed a claim only to receive and email congratulating me for a "GOOD FAITH" check in the amount of $75.00. I am devastated. I worked so hard for what I had. I was once homeless and worked my way to a nice home. Things stolen that can never be replaced, items from loved ones gone. Someone has to stop these people. They got my money; they got my property and no consequences. The customer is the one left devastated and they are okay with that. Next client...
We had a seamless moving experience with Midland Van Lines. Scheduling was easy, prices were reasonable and we got a moving time slot for the day that we wanted.
On the day of the move, the team showed up right on time. They were efficient, professional, courteous, and friendly. They moved all the large furniture and all the boxes from our old apartment to the new one. They didn't dump the furniture but arranged everything neatly in their place as directed. All in all, it was a 5-star experience!
Agreed to list of exact items and price and size of truck 26 ft. Movers showed up without even loading anything dictated that the items are 'too big' will exceed allotted space and will have to charge unspecified extra. When I bring up the contract they yell at me n hang up on me. Refuse to do their job. Refuse to return deposit. Total scum bags. Middle class people like me are always after the cheapest deal. So, realize my tension when Midland van lines quoted a price that wasn't the lowest. I have a lot of attachment to my valuables so I hired them anyway. I realized later why they charge that price. Their movers are no newbies. They showed up right on time and wasted no time while packing everything. Their lightning speed really made up for those extra few dollars they were charging. Everything went very smoothly, even the delivery. I really have nothing to complain about. In the end, it turned out to be a very affordable move for me.
I'm stoked I stumbled upon Midland Van Lines for my move! These guys are super reliable and get the job done right. Their customer service is top-notch, making you feel like a VIP, and they're lightning-fast at responding. Highly recommend!
I recently had the pleasure of entrusting Midland van lines with my relocation needs, and I must say that they exceeded all expectations. From the moment I contacted them to the final delivery of my belongings, every aspect of the process was handled with utmost professionalism and care. Despite the last-minute nature of my move, they rose to the challenge with grace and efficiency. Their team displayed remarkable expertise in orchestrating the logistics of my relocation, ensuring that every item was packed securely and transported safely to my new destination. What truly impressed me was their unwavering commitment to meeting deadlines. Despite the complexities involved in moving to another state, they delivered on their promise, ensuring that my belongings arrived on time and in great condition. This level of punctuality and reliability truly set them apart from other moving companies I have dealt with in the past. Furthermore, I was pleasantly surprised by the transparency and fairness of their pricing. Despite their stellar reputation, they kept the moving costs well within my budget, providing exceptional value for the quality of service rendered. Throughout the entire process, I felt supported and reassured by the professionalism and attentiveness of the team. They went above and beyond to ensure that every detail was taken care of, making my relocation experience smooth and stress-free. I wholeheartedly recommend Midland van lines to anyone in need of reliable and efficient moving services. Their dedication to customer satisfaction, coupled with their expertise and affordability, make them stand out as a top-tier moving company. If you're planning a move, do yourself a favor and choose this company – you won't be disappointed.
Answer: It would have been an extra $30,000 for insurance per my contract with them and, while the items that were damaged and lost were sentimental, they were not actually valuable. My mother passed right before this move and I looked at this company at face value since I didn't have the bandwidth for a deeper dive. I've already contacted their customer service department about the situation and they have said there is nothing they can do.

This customer had been living in South Carolina for over a year, her move was from a house in California. During the course of providing a moving quote, we do an intensive review of the inventory to be picked up. This customer's inventory was provided by the customer herself. Her given inventory is what we expected to transport once our truck arrived. On the day of her pick-up, our crew discovered that there were numerous additional items she wanted shipped that she had not told us about at the time of her reservation. Therefore it was not included in her initial quote. With those additions, her inventory in the California home was almost double what she disclosed when we compiled her original moving quote. In these types of situations when a customer has almost double the inventory upon arrival for pick-up, we have to increase the price to account for the added items and the needed extra space on our truck - the customer always has the option to stay with the original estimate for the exact same price. It is quite possible that she forgot about the items since she was not in the home when we did the initial inventory and quote. Midland Van Lines never upcharges customers on pick-up unless their actual inventory is significantly larger than the inventory disclosed when compiling our moving quotes. Unfortunately the customer made some omissions in her initial inventory, but ultimately we can only go by what our customer advises us that they want to ship.
