WISH I HAD COME HERE FIRST
February 25, 2020

Could have saved myself a whole lot of wasted time signing up with Metromiles if i had only checked out the reviews first. Right now i am in the middle of a claim after my vehicle was scrapped by another car whilst i was parked and the driver just disappeared without leaving a note. I reported it to metromiles and everything seems to be going smoothly. They seemed anxious for me to get my car repaired. However things turned sinister when it came to the paying out part. I was supposed to have received payment the following week. That was two weeks ago and i had never had sight nor sound of anyone or anything from metromiles. When i finally caught up with them. ( like chasing a hare) They told me the previous agent no longer worked with the company and claim needed to be checked with the evaluators to make sure the damage was consistent with the claim?. SMH... I told them i was told to choose DD or check the last time i spoke to the agent so why were they now back peddling. After reading the reviews here it was like reading into the future since this unprofessional conduct seems to be the modus operand i of this company. This is quite serious because i have a leased car and needed a professional insurance to look after my vehicle. Seems like ive been had. They said they would get back to me. Ill be reporting them to the dept of insurance if i don't get some satisfaction by the end of this week.

Stay away at all cost!
February 19, 2020

I was a loyal Metromile customer from very early on. Then out of the blue, I received a notification that my policy was not going to be renewed because I a bad driving record. I have been driving for 25 years and never had an accident. I contested the decision, was told that I would get a response within 48 hours and never heard back from them.

I switched to Farmers, got a discount because I have a home insurance with them, and I am now paying less than I was with Metromile.

Avoid Metromile
February 19, 2020

I strongly caution against avoiding Metromile. You will find a large number of complaints if you have a look at Metromile on the Better Business Bureau website. I tried to communicate twice with them about the issues brought up in these complaints and they simply didn't bother to respond.

All the other reviews are planted reviews supressing negative reviews. It is low cost insurance. But the Metromile OBD II device has caused a number of different electrical issues across several of my cars. To diagnose and repair these electrical issues is more expensive than the savings on the insurance. When you complain Metromile offers to send you a new device and a car lighter adapter. But i've had to have a number of my cars that wouldnt start towed where all the different dealerships electrical diagnostic computers all said the Metromile OBD II device fried something in my electrical system. Also, their road side assistance program is horrible. Its an outsource service provider called Agero Road Side Assistance.

Horrible
January 16, 2020

Metromile is fine until you need them, then they throw you under the bus. Horrible customer service. It's the insurance business. They take your money and don't want to pay it, but they are the worst.

Roadside Assistance Will Never Show UP
January 8, 2020

I've had two instances when I needed roadside assistance, once for a dead battery and once for a tow. The first time, the truck never showed and after 2 hours and numerous calls to Metromile, I finally had a friend come and jump the battery. The second time they told me an apparently nonexistant towing company was on the way, when I called the number they gave me, there was no answer. Then I got a text (after an hour) saying another towing company was on the way and would be there in 30 minutes. I called the towing company listed on the text and they said that they had told the Metromile agent that help would not arrive for 2 hours as they were not yet open and there would not be a truck driver on site for at least an hour; the service they had called was an hour from my location, despite there being several towing companies much closer. They had my phone number listed as one in another state, a number I've never heard of. No one was able to update the number to my actual number. I am still waiting for the tow truck. One last thing - Metromile will only pay $75 for the tow, the rest is on me. The whole situation would be fixed and over with if I had AAA. For what I will end up paying for Metromile's "help" it would be worth buying AAA roadside assistance. Metromile roadside assistance is a farce.

Low cost insurance at its best
December 8, 2019

I have been with Metromile since May 2017. Now, I have not had any accident while insured thru them but I was super satisfied by the rate per month. I used to pay $160+ a month but now I pay about $70! It truly is an ideal insurance for people like me who don't drive often. Only reason I gave a 4 stars is because their communication for roadside assistance need work. I waited 1.5 hrs just to have a the primary tow truck never calling us to locate us and secondary tow truck come get my car in 15 mins.

I'm reviewing Metromile as a third party claimant and my experience.
Time is of the essence they say well not here. My claim was finalized two months later, yes it took two months. It took them over a week to get my vehicle out from the tow truck company's yard, it incurred thousands of dollars in storage fees, not my problem, it was their insurer that totaled my car.
It seems like their adjusters are trained to be extra slow. On top of it all, I was charged for my car rental and had to deal with another nightmare trying to get my money back from them. If you're ever in an accident that isn't your fault and the other party has Metromile, I would highly advise to go through your own and have your insurance deal with them.

Do not trust this company
November 12, 2019

Do not be fooled by their low rates. I totaled my car almost 3 months ago. You barely ever hear from the adjusters. You have to constantly call/send emails to get a response. They intentionally prolong the process, giving vague reasons and you the runaround. They claim they have issued me 2 checks, one being a payout to get a new car. I have received NOTHING. 3 months later, I still have no car and you can get no answers or action done with them. Go through a legitimate insurance company and don't waste your time. They are seriously a joke.

$1,700 savings!
November 9, 2019

I don't drive much anymore as I am retired and can't drive at night anymore. My car is 3 years old and only has 7,000 miles on it. Uber has made getting around easier, but I still like having my own car.

It's getting expensive though, especially since Geico was charging me $3,000 per year! I heard that Metromile offers insurance for low mileage drivers and called them for a quote. It's true! The sales person on the phone was very kind and patient, and my new policy is only $1,300 per year. I am saving $1,700 per year! Definitely worth checking out if you don't drive that much.

Best Policy for Low Mileage Commuters
November 8, 2019

Price: This really can't be beat if you're a low mileage commuter, and if the price savings gets even better with multiple cars under 1 policy.

Tech: Being able to get car diagnostics, location, etc. on your phone is all very helpful and useful.

Overall: I've been a customer for almost a year now, and I haven't had any issues. I will say that I'm a little abnormal of a customer as I have not had any accidents or events that required their customer service yet, but I would imagine they would do a decent job here. If you're a clean, low mileage driver with not a lot of abnormalities this is a great policy!

Affordable insurance for city dwellers
November 8, 2019

I live in SF and take public transportation everywhere, only using my car to go on semi local weekend trips (larger trips I'll take a flight) - saving ~$50/month on auto insurance in an expensive city is incredible and it's very convenient to have the app (i have to move mine every week and a half for street sweeping so verrrryyy helpful). I have a 4 door sedan from 2015 Highly recommended for young professionals trying to save $ like me!

STAY AWAY FROM METROMILE!
November 5, 2019

HORRIBLE SERVICE STAY AWAY FROM METROMILE!

Roadside assistance lost my car during towing!

Roadside assistance is included in my policy and they charged me $59 which is more than the policy alone.

It took customer service 3 days to get back to me and when they called they left a message putting the blame on someone else.

Christina from customer service is horrible she left me a 4 minute voicemail giving me advice on how to use my policy when she should have been apologizing.

STAY AWAY FROM THIS COMPANY!

Worst costumer service experience
October 10, 2019

Everything is fine until you have an accident and need them. Consumers be aware!
I have been using Metromile for the past two years and really did not have any problems and used their app very often to check on my monthly payments. Then, I had an accident and realized that paying cheaper came with a price. Horrible costumer service, delay emails or zero call backs. You have to complaint to the public in order for them to pay attention to you to actually do something about your case. They probably play stupid so that they do not compensate you or they are probably short on cash flow to help you out. Do not use their services because you will regret it the day you need them!

I used to brag endlessly about these guys. Them out of the blue, the underwriting team sends an email (ONLY) telling me they think someone is all of a sudden living with me and driving my car. The was NO reason for this. I thought the email was one of the many ad emails they send each month at first. So I overlooked it. When I got a letter stating my policy was scheduled to cancel because of it, I literally sent the 'no, no one had moved into my place or is driving my car' info back in, they still wouldn't call off the cancellation. So I asked to have that decision appealed. They still didn't care. Mind you, I've been a model customer for years. With no indication whatsoever anyone was moving in with me or even touching my car. Even wow the CEO to ask him to intervene for this nonsense. Nothing. They cancelled it anyway. And had the nerve to ask if I wanted one of their business partners to help me find new insurance. Help people that work with you? Absolutely not. Cancelled out of the blue for a questionnaire that appeared out of the blue? Ridiculous. I'll never recommend them again. All this probably because of the claims I filed from having been hit and run. Terrible business dealings.

Stay away
September 13, 2019

I was a Metromile customer for two years and I was finally so fed up I canceled and went with a different company. It sounds good but there are far too many problems with this company. The customer service leaves much to be desired, the are only available to talk with you M-F 8-5 (while most people work) you have to stay on hold for long periods of time to talk to someone and overall there is not much money savings. I paid an average of $110 per month for basic liability on cars that were rarely driven. Two of my cars were only driven once in a while. On those cars especially the devices rarely work as they should, they often send out emails saying they have lost signal and you have to call if you have time during the day, stay on hold and finally they tell you the solution is to drive the car. Why do I have this service if I rarely drive the car? Go with a traditional insurer and save yourself a headache.

Bad experience overall
August 20, 2019

I had metromile for almost a year and a half. If you have a car that you do not use that much, they will try to charge you the max for inactivity and send you another device. Paying bills on the website does not always work properly for reasons their customer support was unable to tell me; except that they were willing to double bill me. Compared to Farmers and Allstate I saved about 10% based on about 10k mileage for the year; but my coverage limits were lower and my deductibles were higher. I switched to Geico and will save about 25% with better coverage than I had with metromile. If you are retired and drive under 7K per year you may be able to save a small amount compared to competitors but be prepared to be the metromile lab rat as they continue to work out all the bugs in their system if you decide to experiment with this company.

My family relocated to California last summer, purchased a new car and new auto insurance from Metromile as I don't drive much. During recent policy auto renewal, I found the insurance rate increased due to "A previous drive license suspension on August 25,2018". The actual rate increase started long time ago but I just didn't realize. August 2018 is the time my family relocated from Massachusetts to California and I changed my DL from MA to CA. I'd never had DL suspended and believed this is just a mistake. I contacted Metromile and they asked to provide written proof from DMV. I contacted both MA and CA DMV, got required written proof indicating there is no DL suspension. Then I submitted the proofs to Metromile and their underwriter asked me to "provide documentation that specifically state that your license was never suspended in any state". This is ridiculous considering my 20 years driving history and lived in 6 different states. They refuse to correct the rate and process the refund. I cancelled my policy immediately and switched to another traditional auto insurance company. Don't want to any business with Metromile.

Not to mention they will bombarded you with messages/emails if the pulse device signal is un-detected for any reason, and threat huge penalty. Their rate is not cheap at all compared to other company even though I drive less than 5000 miles each year.
