The buyers and sellers are cheap skates they all want something for nothing the buyers and sellers make u lower your price till they pay what they want you to pay otherwise they just like it were u will drop your price this is not a selling website at all this is for people who want $#*! cheap as dirt
Firstly, they almost always side with the buyer. Secondly, they say there's 3 days to ship then you can cancel. I waited 5 days and request a cancelation about 6 times. They refused. Ordered on the 15th and she just shipped on the 22nd. I will be filing a dispute with my credit card company and doing return to sender. Their business practice is disgusting.

I purchased Beats headphones and only one side worked, when I tried to contact the company I got a robot and Mercari wanted to charge me 5.99 to get help and then 49.99 per month after that.
Every seller has GREAT reviews because you can't review them if you are unhappy with your purchase and want to return the item. Over half of the coins I tried to purchase were fakes. I couldn't rate any of the sellers because I returned the coins. Every ine of the sellers had great ratings!
I decided to switch my retail store to this online platform after hearing about it. Everything sounded good I spend weeks taking pictures and putting detailed descriptions of my items. Started off really well. Then I get a message someone made a report on my account of a counterfeit item which there was not. But hey buyer is always right according to them. No proof needed just a vague message by some racist customer service loser. Then a few weeks later I have a return being processed when asked why they approved a return since their guidelines say if the items were as described as pictured there no returns. Again without proof just a vague message that I sent the customer the wrong item. I received the item back and as I knew already was exactly as described. I asked the customer what was her reason for return and she didn't like the fit. Not in line with Mercari policy at all. Okay I'm business we take losses that's not our fault sometimes. A few weeks later I get a message there was another report on a counterfeit item which happened to be nail polish out of all things. I requested to know how a nail polish can be counterfeit if I have assigned no brand to it. They then sent me a message that my account was closed. Once again, in a vague racist way. Mind you the day this happened I took a photo of my ID to get instant direct deposit when this phony claim came up. It's not a coincidence. This company is definitely racist, unethical and quite frankly dumb since they deactivated an account with only good ratings that they are making money from on both the buyer and seller platform of the account. Before you put in your hard work to set up an account think twice. As a side note if you sell an item and it's already delivered to the buyer who then reports it as counterfeit. Say good bye to your $10,000 Diamond ring, Chanel bag or whatever the item is because the buyer gets to keep it at no charge. Company who scams honest sellers and caters to scammers is reprehensible. Companies who make money in a negative way and cause anguish to so many is not one who will flourish.
I purchased a bottle of Nerium Moisturizer from a seller named Mary. It was supposed to be new and unopened. When I received it, it was open and product expired. Mercari denied my refund. What the hell? 1. The seller knows how to get through new system- by saying the product was new and opened. Then played stupid saying it wasn't open when shipped. 2. Mercari backed her up not me. Scammers I say. Unfortunately, Mary has ruined it for the honest sellers.
Bought an electric boat motor that work fine on testing in the shop, but when it was tried on the lake it would not run. Had no power to push the boat. It was a 55lb. Thrust which should push a 12 foot boat.
The three day deadline for returning the item was past as I could not get out any sooner.
Really disappointed and will no longer shop on this site.
I have spent well over an hour trying to set up an acct with this unknown company. - Amidst the process,
A. Their "CAPTCHA" board DOESN'T FULLY SHOW UP!
B. They ask you for your cell phone phone umber so they can send you an SMS text. - Um, well, some of us don't have a cell phone! That is buyer discrimination! I don't need a text, i just want to ask the seller a question!
C. They claim my Facebook acct doesn't work which is PURE BS!
NO COMPANY SHOULD PUT A PERSON THROUGH THIS MUCH RUN-A-ROUND~!. JUST TO INQUIRE IF THEY STILL HAVE THE ITEM! THIS IS A ABSOLUTELY INFURIATING SITE!
I took a chance, ordering something from a member who'd listed 10 items four months before but had zero sales, and didn't respond to a measurement question. She never responded to Mercari, either, so I got my money back when I cancelled after 3 days, but what a waste! If some people list on impulse but neglect or are so indifferent to tending their listings, Mercari should (but evidently doesn't) have a means to get rid of them.
Safe for buyers, not so much for sellers. They apparently will take the buyers word on something and then make a decision regardless of the truth. I do not recommend!
Mercari is a pretty easy site to get around on to buy and or sell various items. I both buy and sell on there and the only complaint I have is that they need a better server. It takes forever to upload pictures or won't upload them at all. After several attempts with no luck I just go list them on Ebay who has no issues uploading images. I am sure many face this same issue and Mercari really should correct it.
As far as customer service, I have always received a prompt reply and if necessary a refund from a seller not shipping out item. Also a purchase was lost on its way to me and I sent the email I received from my postmaster stating package could not be found and Mercari issued me a refund right away.
The app kind of sucks in some ways. It could use some work making it load faster-again they need a bigger server- and I don't like the picks they choose for likes as it doesn't relate to what I'm interested in so I avoid that and go to my likes only. Also, the items that have sold need to be removed from the active ones. It gets tiring to just see sold items while you are looking for treasures.
Most sellers up their prices because you can offer a lower price which is expected and most sellers do accept. You can also like an item and the seller may offer you a reduced price. They really need to get shippo or another postal server to get priority rates that arent offered so packages sent go first-class or UPS /FEDX and can be rather expensive but prevents the gorging of shipping prices as seen on eBay who doesn't control it at all.
Overall Mercari is a good auction site that is growing daily.
TRASH COMPANY doesn't follow their made up rules. Bought something that took 2 weeks for seller to ship supposedly I should have been able to cancel after 3 days
DENIED my cancellation request as well as my request to reject the item I NO LONGER NEEDED. Lets just make up rules pretending to protect buyers and not follow them.
Stay away from Mercari! Basically they don't abide by their own guidelines and like to put it back onto the customer. I've tried numerous times to workout a return with a different representative and they all stand with each other. The worse company I have ever done business with. I never write a negative review, but I am now! STAY AWAY from them!
Like many people, the pandemic has put a hurt on my finances - so I decided to clean out my closet full of luxury handbags, some shoes and jewelry. Everything was going great - real great. But, they make you pay $20.00 to authenticate handbags - and if you decline (because you know it's real) they will do everything in their power to nit-pick you off the site. For example: suddenly making your posts inactive or deciding something is lost in the mail and refunding a customer without talking to me! So rude! I was tracking the package in question - and it would have arrived late - but just how the USPS works at the moment - not at all. It was wonderful UNTIL it wasn't. At the moment I hope everyone stops selling there. As a seller can't reach out & speak to anyone - so you're left with a dictator-style situation. Sorry. I like a democratic company where I can at least reach out and talk and see what we can do together to warrant whatever problems arise - but no. It's Hitler - or nothing at all. Good riddance! I used to love this app - now I detest it.
Terrible customer service, they took 2 weeks to respond to my email, also when you call them customer service its a voice mail really! Who does that! This Company is from Japan not Us, they closed my account because you can't email the vendor for detail on a product your buying, i dont have any problems doing that with Amazon or Ebay. Im sticking to Amazon and Ebay American Companys.
I was using mercari for a few weeks and everything was going fine then unfortunately my package was not delivered even though the post office tracked it being delivered... Later I found out the package was delivered to the wrong address. After reaching out to mercari, one of the customer services reps keep stating that the package was delivered and didnt want to hear anything else from me therefore i disputed with my credit card. Mercari suspended my account. The next day the post office located my package, went to address to pick up and delivered to me. I felt it was completely unfair to be blame when it wasnt my fault. I was left with no other choice to dispute. Please be cautious with mercari but there are other customer based websites better.

Stupid seller cancelled my purchase without notice. Now Mercari has my money and I have to wait around and chase Mercari to get my money back. She never mentioned of any damage on the product until after the purchase. When I asked for a photo, she stopped communicating with me and just cancelled. Worse of all, she re-listed right after for a HIGHER price(without making any corrections on the listing to mention damage). Wtf? When I looked at her records, she had dozens of cancelled transactions.
The app doesn't allow buyers to leave negative reviews after a cancelled order which is stupid you can't warn others.
Seller should be banned from the app. Flag her account! Why is Mercari still allowing her to sell on their platform? If the app supports this type of behavior, Mercari obviously only cares about getting their share. They'll side with whatever is beneficial to them. They don't give a $#*! about BOTH buyers and sellers. Their response is always general answers that doesn't do $#*! to solve your problem.
Don't buy anything from this horrible seller. This is the worse app I have ever used. PERIOD. Run. Save your the headache. Trust me, not worth it.

Purchased an $80 dollar item. Due to mercari's policy, you aren't allowed to see or request tracking info for 3 days after items ship. But if you dont contact them to get tracking then you can't get a refund when item arrives. Once the item arrives you have 2 days to rate the seller to complete the transaction, OR THEY RATE THEM FOR YOU. There was no update on the shipping, no tracking. I asked the seller, no response, then this morning, I got 5 emails in a row, just minutes apart minute apart"order delivered" "rder shipped" "c"plete transaction" "tr"saction complete" In that order. I was scammed. Item never arrived and Mercari said "we "n give you 5% off a $20 purchase for your $80 + tax and shipping loss.

Whos paying taxes on it? FTC will get your money! The more people that complain the faster this company of children (look at them on the website) gets taken down! The faster we all get paid!
