My first two purchases on Mercari were karat gold charm bracelets. The first one was advertised as solid gold with no clasp. After I received it I took it to my jeweler to have a clasp added. He told me that the bracelet and all except one of the charms were gold filled. I returned it for a refund. The second one was lost in the mail, I waited three weeks and a tracking number never showed up. These are the first and last purchases I will make on Mercari.
To interact with their customer service you have to download their app. You can message a seller or buyer but are barred from talking to them outside Mecari. I have had several cases open that were all closed without any help. In one case I was very happy with the coins I bought but, a valued coin was missing. I sent them what happened and written description of coin (HISPAN with two columns). I sent a zoomed in picture of the coin from original posting. They closed the case because they said I did not provide picture of it! You have 24 hours communicate or case is closed (even on a weekend). This is always the case with Mecari. Today I purchased 3 coins (separate transactions) on Mecari for unbelievable low prices. I tried to message seller about coins and was blocked by them! I saw the seller had no previous sales or followers and thought oh no this is a scam! So I tried to cancel order but could not because coins were shipped within the hour. I tried to get assistance from Mecari but was brushed off with several messages and the case closed. If you buy something on Mecari and there is an issue send back item immediately. If you don't it will be yours no matter what because Mecari customer support will close your case out. Be sure to use their authorized return label if you don't Mecari will release your funds to seller and you will no recourse to obtain refund.
Rug arrived, was in the process of moving opened rug after 5 days. Rug was stained and filthy beyond repair (hired professional rug cleaner nothing they could do). Messaged Mercari, SOL, needed to respond with complaint within 3 days. Wanted to leave review but too late, Mercari went in on day 4 and gave seller high rating. No recourse at all. Recommend not to use site, no accountability and false ratings on sellers.

Absolutely awful customer service. We've sold several used products over the years and less expensive products without much issue. We had an order that was destroyed by UPS or FedEx, reopened by them and packaged back up broken, but Mercari didn't do anything out it. That was frustrating but ultimately the shipper's fault. However, we had a new in box collector's item sold to a buyer. The buyer had the item a few days, opened the box, damaged the box, and then told us there was a slight manufacturer's defect with the product. They attempted to fix the defect, further damaging it, and then proceeded to instead initiate a return stating "the item was not listed correctly." We flagged the return, but they accepted it immediately. We reached out to customer service multiple times during this process, explaining the situation, telling them what happened, and that we had messages in the Mercari chat from buyer stating they opened the box and stating they attempted to fix defect and we're messing with product. None of this stopped the return. Eventually, when the returned item came back to us, we photographed it immediately and sent in a complaint about the return. They investigated it, and of course, found nothing wrong, despite all the evidence given and the pictures, etc. DO NOT SELL COLLECTOR'S ITEMS WITH MERCARI! Do not sell new in box products! Buyers can damage the product and return no questions asked, losing HUNDREDS of dollars in value. Mercari will do NOTHING.

I ordered shoes via Mecari and the shoes I received were to big and to wide on my feet. I contacted both the seller and customer service and was told they denied my request for return. DO NOT WASTE your money ordering from this site. Horrible customer service. You are made to feel like a criminal for requesting a return. I contacted my bank to resolve the issue.
I contacted Mercari promptly about not receiving the item o bought even though tracking shows it was delivered Mercari closed the transaction and took my money basically stole my money and told me because tracking shows it was delivered there is nothing they can do for me they puff a lot of nothing saying that the buyer can purchase with assurance but it's all just a bunch of puffing Mercari is a bunch of thieves and scammers
I've made about 45 purchase on mercari and everything went smoothly besides customer service and their return policy about a month ago I ordered a pair of shoes for 214$ that never came and I will say this the seller (kundalsingh) was awesome he was madder then I was and talked to me over the next week about helping me get a refund for a lost package needless to say I never got one well yesterday I received my retro Jordan white oreo 4s when they arrived I simple looked in the box and rated the seller so the seller could get paid well later on that night I took the shoes out the box and they are knock offs did a claim and got told I had to contact a 3rd party to have the 3rd party tell me the shoes are fake are u kidding me just look at the picture the tongues rounded on real Jordan's

I started selling 2 t-shirts on Mercari, the buyer received the goods and the payment is in the balance $39.
I withdraw it to my bank account but it gives an error and they deducted the withdrawal fee of $2, the balance is $37.
I changed my bank account and withdrew again but it said "adjustment" minus $37, I opened the case and they said my account was closed, they didn't mention anything about my $37. Where to go.

My husband bought me a used Louis Vuitton handbag for Christmas, which claimed it was in OK condition. It's not. The handle was hot glued on, so it came off when I picked it up out of the box. No mention of that at all in the description. Even in awful condition, the actual way to carry it is pretty important. At this point I'm pretty sure it's a fake, but Mercari refuses to do anything about it at all. They actually advised us to resell it on their site. So basically even after we sent pictures, and explained that the condition is not only poor, or Ok, it's not useable. This site is a scam, don't expect what you think you're buying, or any help as it says on the return address in bold print'. 'Do Not Return To this Address'. Total scam.
Seller never shipped and tracking was never updated. They didn't resolve the issue but kept telling the seller to ship. Finally I escalated with PayPal and Mercari restricted my account. What an awful experience

My lens now makes a buzzing sound and does not function properly at all. The buyer broke my lens and then returned it. My lens as in perfect condition when listed and now it doesn't work. She claims that the item was "damaged in transit". This is a lie. Mercari refunded the buyer despite the deliberate destruction of my property. Mercari refuses to compensate me for my damaged property. Mercari does not protect sellers and its platform is riddled with scammers. Do not use Mercari! Share this everywhere. Mercari is not a valid platform for selling.
I purchased a pair of boots described as "like new", upon receiving I tried them on and the faux leather started crumbling and started to disintegrate. I immediately followed return policy and took photos and requested a return. The return was denied stating I didn't file within 24 hours, actually FedEx delivered Friday morning April 29th and requested the return at 2:00pm that day. Please see photos below.
I sent out an antique Tiffany style lamp, packaged it several layers of bubble (usps product) and layered in bubble in a box. After the buyer had the lamp for 2 full days they file a claim that the lamp was broke. Mercari decides to cancel the transaction allowing the buyer to keep the lamp and the proceeds for the lamp. Mercari's policy states your protected under their shippers protection under $200. They are saying that they're not sending my antique lamp back and also not paying me for it. This sounds like stealing to me! Sellers beware! You are not protected. Mercari will let the seller keep your product and your money!
They are forcing sellers to use fast pay which charges $2 per transaction. When you don't mind waiting 5 days to get paid then they come up with a gate to block you from requesting your money without the $2 fee. This has to be illegal and there's no oversight committee to complain about this. I've sold 500 items with 500 five star reviews and they treat the lifeblood of their organization like this. They are in Japan so you can't get in touch with them either. No phone number whatsoever, no address, no Google reviews. It's like Japanese Cowboys raping America $2 at a time. They need a class action lawsuit to be filed against them. Any lawyers interested, I'll testify.
I bought from a seller named Jema from Tennessee and she sent me a piece of wood in a box. So there was proof something was sent. She got paid even though the system is that they are supposed to get a review first. She said she was going to handle it, but Mercari closed it out and said I reviewed her and she got paid. I sent them pics of the wood she sent and packaging to dispute it and they said I left her a review which I didn't. It just closed out and said I reviewed it. So basically my money is stolen and she got paid and it is a scam they run. Stick to more reliable places like amazon rather than these weird alternative marketplaces. -Jane Kim

There is zero customer service / issue resolution. The buyer must mark that they've received their package and rate the seller before funds are released to the seller. Mercari says if there's no rating after 3 days they automatically rate the seller and release funds. This is NOT TRUE. Lazy buyers or buyers who just do not understand the mercari process don't rate, mercari doesn't rate and holds your money. Their "resolution team" responds with some automated answer and doesn't resolve any issues and definitely does not help you get your money from your sale. I can't even imagine how much money they make out of ripping people off this way. I have tried every Avenue possible to recover the funds / my money hostage
I ordered a CD from Mercari using a credit card. They withdrew the funds immediately and then emailed to say the item would not be sent because it was damaged during packing. But they would give me a "free" CD to make up for it. I asked customer service to just return my money. They emailed to say they wanted a photo of the item and an explanation of how it was damaged. I took a screen shot of my confirmation and their email saying the item had not shipped, attached it, and sent it to them. I also called with the same message but no one called back. Hard to tell whether they're criminals or just incompetent.
