I purchased a kerosene heater from a seller on this site. The item was listed as in fair condition and the description stated the heater just needed a new wick. The item arrived covered in filth, missing the wick knob, and the fuel cap was not able to be removed. The back side battery casing was corroded and would not accept batteries. I sent pictures and details of the item not being as described. The company responded and told me to "try a wrench" to get the fuel cap off (which was insulting). Ultimately they denied my refund. Fine, $27 plus shipping went toward trash- I rolled the dice and lost. But, if you'd prefer not to gamble I'd suggest shopping elsewhere.
Had a horrible experience buying from Mercari and will never, ever, use it again. Horrible company, allows buyers to be deceived and makes it impossible to get any help.
I bought a printer that was described in perfect condition and, most important to me, ready to be used, at what seemed a reasonable price. But then it arrived with nothing... no cords, no ink... just an empty shell, and pretty useless to me unless I spent more money that if I had bought a brand new printer in the first place. Unfortunately, I was gone when it arrived so didn't realized I had been scammed until 3 days after it was delivered, at which point Mercari made it impossible to request or initiate a return, or even to contact the seller to complain. I wasn't even allowed to leave a negative feedback or a comment to warn other buyers. The printer ended up at Goodwill where they were maybe able to get $10.
So it's my opinion that Mercari is a truly horrible company that seems to victimize sellers as well as buyers, and I really don't know how they allow it to operate in this country.
If you have the misfortune to become a victim of one their sellers, be sure to put in a complaint right away, as you have a very short time to at least try to recover your money.
Mercari incorrectly packaged an item, which arrived broken. ThenMercari's two-day response policy is arbitrary and only designed to not be responsive to. Customer needs, since they failed to respond to my return request [broken/damaged item] within two days of my reporting the issue, yet they demand My response to them within 2 days. I recommend that people NOT buy through Mercari, since their c/s return policy is a scam.
If I had done more research, I never would have used this site to purchase a used sprinkler controller.
What was shipped was not what was described, not complete or usable. Their customer service was no help and their reasoning about denying my return was in violation of their stated policy. If any want to use this site they need to read the fine print and question the seller closely about the product, its condition and functionality.
This company is bad. They've ignored many many requests by me to UNSUBSCRIBE from their dumb email list. I wouldn't trust them in anything if they can't even do this. I am reporting them to the BBB. Something very wrong with this so called company.
You must fully check out and test all functions within 3 days of receipt. If you are out of town or don't get to it, you are screwed if there is a problem.

I wish I would have researched Mercari before making a purchase, I would have never done it if I had known about their ridiculous return policy. DO NOT BUY ANYTHING FROM THIS PLATFORM. I purchased a set of food processor blades and when I received them they were the wrong size so obviously, I cannot use them, I reached out to Mercari and requested a return and they denied my request because the wrong size isn't a good enough reason for a return. RIDICULOUS
These people are one of the worst spammers. They use multiple email addresses and they do not include and "Unsubscribe" link. I wish I had never even LOOKED at their site.
Recently bought a BluRay set on this site that turned out to be counterfeit - When I contacted the company about this it turned into a comedy routine in which every picture or detail I sent them via email was answered with... requests for more pictures and more details. I've never experienced anything like it - You think that when you tell a major online retailer that someone on their site is violating copyright law they'd be eager to take the bogus merch back and give you a refund? Not Mercari. And despite their supposedly having offices in the U.S., I don't think their customer service offices are based here. In fact, I suspect that the email customer service system is actually an AI program designed to exasperate anyone who has a complaint. I've never experienced anything like it before and hopefully never will again - I haven't gotten my money back, but I did use PayPal when ordering and they're usually good about refunds when it comes to stuff like this. Let's hope. I'll close with a warning: no matter how desperate you might be for a good deal, Mercari should be avoided at all costs. I'll never order from them again. PERIOD.
My first order from them never shipped and they canceled it - so I ordered the same 2 boxes again - for a higher price - and the 2nd order arrived with 1 box damaged! The only solution they had was for me to ship both boxes back and get a refund (great) and I could try to purchase them again. I needed the boxes - they match the ones I already have - I've already waited so long for them to arrive, I just want to be done with this project - so what am I to do? Mercari offers no partial refunds - all or nothing. So I kept the boxes - and I'll face the dents to the back. But it shouldn't have been like this.
Said my package was delivered 4 days before I got it and after 3 days they automatically rate the seller even if your dissatisfied and once it's rated I can no longer dispute anything I got a broken game and cannot return it because the said I got it last Thursday when infact I got it on monday so when I received the package it had already been rated so I could no longer return before I even had it delivered! The help center wont help it's not there issue excuse me!?!

I tried Mercari.com to purchase a water filter for my Samsung fridge. The seller for this transaction was
"thrift and Overstock"
Shipping was quick enough. Problem was, they send me the wrong filter. What they sent wasn't even close, it was for a fridgadaire fridge, not Samsung. It looked like they just pulled it out of a trash can, packaging torn. I didn't realize it, but Mercari has a strict 72 hour return policy. Get that? Available return time measured in HOURS, not Days. I contacted them about 76 hours after I got delivery, explained the problem. AFTER having me repeatedly send them pics of the wrong item, damaged box, etc, they told me I was TOO LATE. Their policy is carved in stone, no credit, no refund, no return. I tried leaving a review for the seller on their site, but did not have that option. I'm guessing most of the 5 star review there are FAKE. BeWARE - Spend your money somewhere else. These guys are scammers.
The items I've bought here have been typically not described accurately. No Customer & No seller support. No phone number for mercari. Nonsensical customer support answers to questions. Terrible.

I purchased a brooch back in December 2021. The brooch was lovely and I really appreciated the purchase. So I leave an awesome review and the seller gives me 3 stars! What the@#$%?! And then the seller blocks me like a coward... and this is how you get treated on Mercari... lovely.
Don't need to download the app to buy something but you sure as hell do if you want to get any help when there's a problem. Downloading their app on my already full storage in my phone is a big problem. With that worthless app on my phone it is slow and glitchy and keeps crashing. The number that you call just runs you around in circles. There is no live person to talk to if you need help. Overall mercari is a horrible place to shop with no customer service
I joined Mercari a week ago and placed two orders. The company then closed my account and cancelled my orders without explaining why. When I contacted them via email I got a generic and somewhat rude reply. I definitely do NOT recommend this company to anyone as you will never get in touch with a real person, the phone number leads nowhere and you end up more and more frustrated! Or like me very confused at what went wrong!
