I ordered an item and I never received it. Apparently it was sent to another person. Seems like the seller switched labels. When I contacted them they said it had been 3 days since delivery so all sales are final. And I was not allowed to contact the seller after the 3 days. The problem, I didn't receive the item so I didn't know the three days even started. Absolutely no refund or compensation for me. I'm just out $20. I will NEVER shop at Mercari again.
My item arrived while I was away, and I was not able to review it in the allotted time, so they reviewed it for me. As a result the sale was final. The item was identified as new but the seal was broken. This is false advertising. They did nothing to help me.
I bought a necklace that was listed as "silver" in the the description and in multiple photos. I received a GOLD necklace instead. I was confident that there'd be no problem returning this since the listing was clearly inaccurate. Instead they replied that I should email the seller to confirm specifics before buying and DENIED my return and closed out the sale so I couldn't even leave a review for the seller! Never in my years and years of buying things online has any company sided with the seller when they've clearly provided false information! And we're talking about a used $28 necklace! It's not even an expensive item!
I've sent probably 30 messages to their customer service team saying they made the wrong decision and that this is a deceptive practice and they just keep stating that it wasn't incorrectly listed - it absolutely WAS!

I have been successful selling on another platform. Thought I would give Mercari a try. I listed several items. The next day they mistakenly flagged one of my items as counterfeit and removed it. It's a luxury brand, I get it, but I've owned it for years, and trust me I paid the Brand price at the original store. Mercari wants proof of authenticity. The box, bag and tags are long gone. I see other sellers with the identical item, in similar condition, with no box photos either! Mercari will not let me relist the item. As a result of me being a suspicious seller, they also will not let me promote or answer any messages from people interested in my other listings. So, now I have listings that I can not promote or answer any questions about in order to help any potential buyers. It makes me wonder if I would get paid if any of my items do sell?
I filed a complaint with customer service, which by the way is so poorly designed that they will only take inquiries about certain subjects, so I had to choose another topic in order to complain. There is no phone number to call to speak to a live person. When they do answer your inquiry, its a robo answer that just says, see the TOS. Just garbage!
IMHO the problems start with the platform. The Sellers are not bad people, they are using a bad platform.
Removing my listings and sticking with Poshmark where I am a five star buyer rated Posh Ambassador and don't get harassed by Poshmark.
I've completely deactivated my account and left the company due to the constant issues. Mercari is extremely unprofessional, unhelpful, and has ridiculous polices. They are very controlling with all seller and buyer communication. They literally block almost everything. Users can not send pictures of items, can not resolve any issues themselves, or allow anything discussed that may be helpful to each other. The company has scammed me and I hope they go out of business for stealing money from people. They required me to complete a review in order to request a refund for an item that was delivered damaged. I was also not able to speak to a representative unless a review was submitted. Then, once I did they told me sorry they can't refund if a review is submitted? What a scam! It's company rigged and they did not allow the seller to communicate with me at all regarding a refund or pictures of the damaged item. CUSTOMERS BEWARE!
Sent an item. I paid UPS for extra packaging. Buyer returns claiming damage. Buyer tells me it was just the item in the box. Mecari claims they reviewed it and "it wasn't as enough protective cushion as it needed." So the buyer claims nothing but the item and a box, and Mercari claims it needed more cushioning in the existing packaging. It can't be both. Somebody is being dishonest, and based on this information, how can you justify a return without approving shipping protection on the item? This entire site is a hustle and allows scammers to thrive. Bought items from two sellers. Neither shipped. Mercari just lets them cancel; no chance to review seller or warn other buyers. But if you look at the seller profiles they haven't shipped an item in three years. It's just cancellation after cancellation. Mercari looks like a scam to me - just a way to collect your data, take your money, play the float (earning interest while they have your money) then cancel with no penalty to the fraudulent seller. Seems like a scam site, so stay away.
I recently purchased electronic cymbals on Mercari. When they arrived, they were absolute junk. They were super small and not at all what was pictured. The picture made it look like normal size electronic cymbals. What came in looked like tea saucers. (See picture of what they sent next to a regular e-cymbal.)
Mercari is suppose to allow you to return merchandise. I contacted right away as soon as I got the cymbals in. I asked for a refund, and that began endless responses from the Mercari team, telling me why I could not return the items. They lied and said I didn't contact them within 3 days. I contacted them within 30 minutes. Another reply said I didn't select the right option when asking for a refund, which is ridiculous. I was even told I could sell the product again on their site to make my money back. How are sites like this allowed to exist in commerce? Absolutely horrible.
I'm a long rime mercari seller/ buyer I sell thousands monthly & spend close to that monthly. After reporting unfair seller return issues I found a mercari employees who reviewed the issues & compensated me for the problems when experiencing the same issues I tried to report it & was unable to connect the employee for help now I'm targeted treated unfairly not protected by mercari employees being denied the few perks they offer sellers to help increase sales. If I report issues/problems I'm punished & my issues goes unaddressed/fixed this has caused loss of sales $ & product. There is absolutely nothing I can do!
Why oh why when I put in a SPECIFIC size or color in the search bar, does it show me everything under the sun that has NOTHING to do with what I asked for? Such a waste of time and effort to click on each one to find it is NOT the right size. And when I put I in the color "cream", I get every color there is? I don't bother with this site any longer. Prices are unrealistic for used items and shipping is prohibitive to the cost of the item. I can do better with Marketplace or even thrift stores!
I bought a $150 perfume from Mercari and later discovered it was fake. It looked very authentic so I took it in for real at first for I haven't tried this particular perfume before. Later I came upon a real sample and immediately discovered the difference. I tried to contact the seller and their account was deleted!
It has passed the 30 day mark Mercari won't do anything about it. I contested that counterfeit products shouldn't have the same return period as the others. All they told you was how sorry they were and wish me good luck next time. Psst!

The seller sent me an empty box. Mercari then published their own five star rating of the seller. Released my money to him. Offered me a credit and sent the scammer an email telling him to make sure he puts the item in the box next time. This is the second time in a row i have been scammed from this site. For my part. I ordered from a person with zero history and an obvious fake name. I did not do my due diligence in investigating. But why should I have to investigate on what is supposedly a legitimate site that has a great big page set up for Buyer Protection. So it looks like I am out 400 bucks. But at least au get some credits for merchandise I can order and never receive.
My order arrived incomplete, I immediately contacted the seller who never replied. When checking if I had a response, and to follow up, I learned that the app automatically closed out the sale after just 3 days from delivery, gave the seller a 5* rating on my behalf and I can no longer contact the seller. I contacted Mercari who said that because the sale was closed nothing can be done to address my issue, and that dialogue closed in less than 24hrs so I couldn't even respond.
I bought an item from this site. It said it was delivered by USPS but never received them called USPS and talked to representative and was told that according to them item was delivered to a address in my city but not my address and item weighed 2.20 ounces (it weighs10 pounds). Contacted company. They sent email stating I would get a refund. But I did not.

I have been on Marcari for years, have sold and purchased thousands of $$ worth of items. Their costs keep increasing but that's not the worst of it. Their customer service is criminal and the business is a scam, they do not protect their buyers and refuse to do legitimate returns simply to make money and avoid paying shipping fees. This has happened on multiple occasions over the past year with me when they used to be much better about returns. The last item was completely disgusting, dirty, pilled and the seller listed it as "Like New" and they refused the return and paid the seller. This time, I purchased a Blue and Black camp chair bundle for $100. I received a RED and black chair, in their return policy it says if the item received is a vastly different color, it qualifies for a return. I sent them photos of the red chair I received, which also had HOLES IN IT even though it was listed as new, and they're refusing the return it and releasing payment to the seller again! If you want to lose money on items you didn't purchase/that weren't as described then, by all means, use Mercari. Because your purchase is not protected as they lie and say it is.
I contacted Mercari because I had an unknown charge on my credit card statement. I talked to one person to the next about wanting a refund on an item I never purchased. Each one of their associates wanted me to confirm information for an existing Mercari account. Such as phone number,
Email and Shipping address. After I repeated over and over I did not nor have I ever had an account with them, let alone ever heard of their company. I've also sent over a screenshot multiple times of my bank statement. That's ok because I've contacted my bank to dispute this charge and I'll continue to write bad reviews on different platforms about this company because people need to hear what kind of shady business this is. This company has done absolutely nothing whatsoever to be helpful. How many people do I need to speak to and repeat myself and information to until they actually refund me?
I figured I would try them out and the very first time I get burnt! Never again! Stick with Amazon people or order directly from the manufacture or department store. I ordered a pair of men's loafer shoes, size 13 for $30. I received them but they were made in China and Chinese size 13 which is equivalent to a size 9 US. So therefore the shoes didn't fit. I contacted the seller and they refused to refund and also contacted Mercari and they also refused to refund. So lesson learned. DO NOT USE MERCARI.
