I bought a chanel bag posted on their website: https://jp.mercari.com/item/m*******611, as I am located in HK and I cant create account directly on their web, so I ordered through from Japan https://www.fromjapan.co.jp/en, (their partner) under order#*******E. I received the item today and found it is a super fake product. It smells plastic, light weight, and i compared everything with my own chanel bag, it does not match.
I wrote to both of them for addressing the issue and request for a refund, From Japan simply reply me they cannot help, and did not report this case to Mercari Japan. Mercari Japan just reply me they do not have english services and ask me to go back to From Japan.
For the pasted 1 week, I kept reach out to them and try to make them understand this is serious. However no one takes it seriously. I kept being told that selling fake is a crime in Japan, but I proved it is irrelevant, these platform took no responsibility and they did not take care of your comment or complaint. I was shock, I have been doing online shopping for the pasted 10+ years, no company ever acting like that. Well, this is new low to me.
I will not recommend to buy from them, either Mercari Japan or From Japan, no protection and no services, in 2023, seriously?
Brought a pair of shoes two weeks ago, used " in like new condition " as they say… it was black with heels. I need it for inside house going downstairs / apartment only. Then I wore it for 5 times total less than one hour. Today I found out the heels was came off and break into the pieces. Of course, contact customer Svc, guess what? I am out of luck, after 72 hours there is nothing they can or want to do by " policy "- which was made by them from the beginning... I ended up paying $ for a pair piece of sh-t that I was never able to wear it again! It's a fraud!
I like selling on Mercari. The site itself is good, safe and I always get paid in a timely manner. But when things go wrong, then the trouble begins. Whenever I list a high end product, they suspend my account stating I have violated their rules, but they don't say which rules or why. I list authentic items, always. I violate no rules. They usually reinstate my account within 24 hours or less and sometimes they restore the listings and sometimes they don't. When I write to them, it takes a day or so for a response, and the response never responds the actual issues in my emails. It is very irritating. I appreciate they are trying to run a safe site, but given sellers selling is how they make money, they ought to treat sellers with more respect. I would sell so much more on their site but I only list about 25% of my products on Mercari because I don't want to hassle with them. It's ashame.
Bought a rice cooker. It arrived wrapped in plastic bags and tape. Upon cutting the tape off, I noticed the item was dented. I immediately filed a claim with Mercari with photo evidence of the damaged item. They denied my claim and won't give my money back. I deleted this app and will never EVER buy anything from these scammers. BEWARE!
I ordered a backpack for my daughter for Christmas that the seller said was brand new. As soon as I opened the box I was overwhelmed with the smell of cigarette smoke. When I asked to return it because of how bad the smell was, Mercari said that they can't accept returns just because of a smell. They only protect the seller not the buyer and now I'm stuck with an item I can't use. I will never use Mercari again. They only care about the sale going through and not protecting the consumer. Mercari has terrible customer service. They do not have any capability to engage with customers over the phone, but instead limit all interactions to email chains. If an issue is not resovelable by email it does not get resolved. They do not value their marketplace place participants. Decided to delete the app and not participate in their market place.
I submitted an order for a telfar ugg shopping bag from kaz shop. After 72 hours and several reminders to the seller, my item wasn't delivered. An additional attempt to reach out to the seller was made along with a request to mail the item and nothing. I received a bogus excuse stating they have many positive reviews and this was an oversight. I've cancelled my order and will not utilize this site in the future
Ordered and paid for 10 different Apple Watches over the past month 8 of which I received a toy mouse other 2 simply did not send I only keep on ordering with the hopes of finding one honest seller. All 10 I have received a refund from mercari at least that is good but site is mostly scam sellers
I am a seller on Mercari, my prices are very low, everything I sell is pretty much new. The buyers try to get you to go below 25% of your asking price. It's ridiculous. And then you have to wait for them to review you and they have 3 days, you don't get paid until they review you. Then your waiting for Mercari to put the money in your bank and that's another 3 day's or sometimes 4 days. Your talking a week to get paid. I don't like Mercari.
Mercari is lousy when it comes to returns. I bought a basketball jersey from a seller named Ashley******* that was posted as a mens XL. When I got it it was a kids jersey so I went through the proper steps to return it. Both the the seller and the site refused my request and left me paying an inflated price for something that is worthless to me. They claimed it was their policy to not accept returns for this fraud. So in my eyes Mercari is a platform that allows theft by deception. If you use this site please be careful because because they are buyer friendly and only protect their commission.
Interestingly, each of the 3 replies regarding, Starlink Ethernet Adapter ID m*******101, were identical as if there was only a peripheral reading of my response. This issue is not only a problem I now have but in so many ways one that the seller had, that of reselling an item that could not be tested until it was in the final installation. The seller appears to be a very honorable merchant but could not have known that this item was faulty in the first place. Also very unlikely to be put into service within your parameter of "3 days" after purchase to receive a refund for a product that is not wanted, or worse faulty. I may well post your reply with my comments on my Facebook page as well as the ratings of our business.

Customer Service decline the return even though I can prove item is not as described. STAY AWAY from this site, not worth it. Mercari should be ashamed of these poor ratings. They do not care about buyers at all. I will NEVER buy from this site ever again.
Bought a Swatch listed as "New". It arrived and didn't work. The packaging had been opened so I took it out and checked for a battery. The insides of the watch had been somehow twisted so the battery wasn't accessible. Sent a return request with pictures of this watch along with an actual new one. They denied the return because I had opened the battery compartment.
I should have researched the seller, they had just created their page, this was the only item, they said from Texas but the return address on the package doesn't exist and tracking shows that it actually came from Florida. Even with all of this now obvious fraud, Mercari said sorry because I opened the battery compartment to see why the watch wasn't working. Mercari is a place for scams.
BUYER BEWARE* If you ever decide to start a claim over a purchase just know that Mercari algorithms will refuse to allow you to rate or leave a review about that experience. THIS IS A WAY THAT MERCARI SAVES ITS self from really bad reviews. I am SHOCKED that after my HORRIBLE yet true experience I was then denied my right to leave a review about the experience. It propelled me to make sure i left reviews on YELP, FB, BBB and now here just to make sure EVERYONE is aware of all the horrible things that could happen if you purchase things through Mercari. It is my lifes mission to leave this website fair reviews on any platform I can find because they dont offer that reviewing option for their customers. Here is what I was told in writting:

I initially gave Erin a good review (to be nice). I shouldn't have. There is a defect she had co clue about. Do not use Mercari. They don't help. They don't refund. They have poor customer service.
I've been buying and selling from Mercari for a few years now, and I had the problem back then as I do now so I guess Mercari doesn't want to fix anything. The issue is deadbeat sellers, people that will post and not ship, either cancel real quick because they think they put the price to low because it sold to fast, so they cancel and repost at a higher amount, or you have people that just never ship. Unlike Ebay, Mercari has no way to rate these people, you can only rate AFTER a positive transaction, so if an order gets cancelled there's no way to rate the person to let other people know to stay away from them. It's not like you can really fabricate the situation because Mercari can see all this, they can see the quick cancellation, they can see the cancellation due to seller inactivity. Best just to stick with Ebay, it's super annoying and frustrating especially if you are trying to buy a gift someone and get excited about it only for it to never be shipped.
Purchased an item that was listed as great condition with lots of life left in it.
The item wasn't even usable. Uneducated employee closed the return and left the seller positive feedback. BS responses from the "customer" service team.
Contacted seller and they stated they knew nothing about the item and don't accept returns so wasn't their problem!
I purchased a pair of shoes that fell apart when I wore them. They broke, split, lost parts and I had to work a 12 hour shift, as a nurse, with no shoes. I contacted Mercari and they basically said too bad. I did not tell them in three days because I did not wear the shoes. They rated the seller and gave them the money and refused a response. I then decided to check their BBB status which is 1 out of 5. Don't buy anything from this company.
Mercari is a total scam! It is a waste of money! I didn't not receive the item I purchased. After looking at the pictures and researching the item I decided to make the purchase. Whos paying taxes on it? FTC will get your money! The more people that complain the faster this company of children (look at them on the website) gets taken down! The faster we all get paid!
