Never received what I bought, seller never shipped out…been trying to get a refund for 60 days. Finally got a email receipt that they were refunding back on my card Aug 1, never got refund. Phone always on hold forever than their system hangs up on you. Back and forth on emails with no response to a solution. Disputed on my card still in review, all for $33.95. NEVER SHOP ON MERCARI! It's not eBay! A warning!

I sold a fragile cosmetic product on Mercari, following their recommended packaging guidelines carefully. Despite this, the item was damaged during shipping. When I contacted Mercari for assistance, they refused reimbursement, stating that my packaging did not meet their standards, even though I followed the guidance. To make matters worse, the buyer was allowed to keep the damaged product, leaving me, the seller, with no choice or recourse. I have contacted Mercari multiple times and filed a BBB complaint. Their response did not resolve the issue, and I remain dissatisfied. This experience suggests that Mercari's policies favor buyers over sellers, particularly in cases of fragile items. Sellers should be aware that even when following packaging instructions, they may not be protected.

Bought a keyboard that ended up being misrepresented by seller. It arrived and was sticky af which indicates liquid damage. Initially I thought it worked because I could get it to type but it didn't work as it's supposed with the program it's supposed to work with. It was a shift keyboard that's programmable and it wouldn't connect. They said they'd do the return if he agreed to it as I had prematurely rated him not knowing as a new user how this site works. He agreed to the refund. It's all in writing but instead they closed it because I was away from my computer for 24 since they sent their last message and they did not do the return. Then they accused me of altering the item. They accused me of not asking for the refund soon enough. I had the keyboard less than 12 hours and told them it was not working and I wanted a refund. As soon as I threatened charge back they were all "don't do a charge back". Ultimately that will probably be where this ends. After days of going back and forth and them accusing me of random đź’© still no refund and they claim they can't because they released the money on an item they know is disputed and don't work. They now say the only way to get my money back from the dude is to post it on their site and resell it to him. What they don't say is that they would get a cut of the $$ a second time. So this is their scam. They do not protect buyers at all. They are nothing but a scam site. Avoid at all costs. There was no warning as to not being able to get a refund if you left a review. I've only dealt with the site once before and that was to buy a key set and then i could not get into the account ever again and had to make a new one. I tried logging in on my phone to deal with this and their site won't let me log in on my phone. It's really not a user or buyer friendly site. Be prepared to get scammed here.

Mercari is a complete joke. Their customer service is absolutely unacceptable. The employees are rude, dismissive, and treat you like you're an inconvenience to them, rather than a customer they're supposed to help. It's clear they don't care at all about providing any real service. The whole team seems like they're just a bunch of clueless, arrogant, COVID rush hires who have no idea what they're doing. I was dealing with a simple return, and five different employees had a nerveous break down and couldn't handle it. Not a single one could solve the problem or even act like they cared. If you're looking for a company that respects you as a customer, look elsewhere. Mercari is definitely not it.

It's my favorite app to sell and buy on.
August 4, 2016

Mercari is my favorite app to sell and buy on. Because customer service isn't the best, it's up to the buyer to check out ratings of the seller. Why buy from someone who already has bad ratings and then get upset when you're not satisfied? I have only had great experiences by selling to people who obviously understand the rating system and have nothing but great ratings. Items you cannot buy on here safely regardless of ratings are makeup, electronics, and accessories for phones. Many times they are used, broken, defected, or cheap. There is a reason Sephora and Apple exist-- Mercari should only be used for secondhand items such as books they're tired of, clothing that is old or not the correct size, gently worn shoes, and minor household items or toys. Do not buy anything that is considered "designer" on here-- it is most likely the $1 EBay unauthentic edition bought from China and resold for $50. Do not sell to buyers who do not have ratings. They may ask for a refund and attempt to scam you. Only buy items that obviously have time put into them-- if a shirt is wrinkly and on the bedroom floor when it's pictured, can you really be upset when it comes smelling bad and has pet hairs all over it? Only buy from people who put effort into their photos and descriptions. If it does not have a description, ask questions instead of blindly buying.
Responsibility for transactions is up to the buyer and seller, knowing how customer support is. If someone even has one bad rating, don't do it unless the rater themselves stated it was accidental. If you follow the guidelines I've shared, you will only have a happy experience on Mercari.

Bad first impression
August 2, 2016

I ordered and outfit that was priced cheaper then poshmark I figured I'd take a chance it guarenteed 1-2 days to ship and like the others that have left bad reviews I got no response from customer service. I got very anxious because I specifically ordered outfit for a special occasion and then I get a response a day later from seller stating she lost her phone and access to apps and she couldn't afford the shipping to overnight the package. She cancelled the order and stated she was sorry! I was upset because this was a major inconvenience. The money was already debited from my account and they didn't refund me right away. I understand things happen but this was not a good first impression. I'm not blaming seller I'm empathetic when it comes to things beyond our control. Ultimately it was customer service who is accountable for this mistake. They should have responded sooner.

Horrible! Horrible!

Ordered new makeup. Received used makeup. Took over 24 hours for them to respond to emails. Finally threatened to dispute charge. Then they sent me a return label but gave me 3 days to get in mail (over weekend and I was out of town). I sent it anyway. We'll see if they send me my credit. Hate this company!

It IS as bad as you think
July 23, 2016

This app is by fsr the worst app for sellers and buyers. I appreciated the fact that there were no hidden fees. Sellers get 100% of the money. However, too many issues with selling or buying and ZERO CUSTOMER SERVICE AVAILABLE. One might check the Better Business Bureau as not a single positive review exists. I sold a $300 iPad to someone and once I shipped it, I realized it was a generation 2 instead of a generation 3 as advertised. She wanted to return it which was not a problem because it was my fault. Mercari took over 2 weeks to allow us to return the item. In the meantime her money was held up and I was worried that she would send the incorrect item back. Once we were permitted to return the item the lady provided tracking and I received a box in the mail. As soon as confirmation went to Mercari that my item was delivered they released her funds back to her. Luckily, my iPad was in the box but she could have sent a pair of underwear and Mercari would have released the money back to her. My latest issue with them is that a seller offered to send more pictures of her item to prove authenticity. I asked her if she could post more pictures on Mercari and she told me that she would email me pics. As soon as I entered my email Mercari bans me for one month. That is the most ludicrous thing I have ever heard. They said they are reviewing the reason I would insert my email. I told them that would take 10 seconds if they read our conversation but I have gotten no response. Why would I do a transaction outside of there business when there's no fees on either end for the seller or the buyer? They are STEEEEWPID not stupid. I keep getting automated responses from Jazzy Jeff, Holly Hobbit, and Little Bill. All of the automated messages have a ridiculous first and last name. The customer service is the worst I have ever experienced. This is probably because there is none. I am not sure how this app continues to stay in business when there is about 90% negative reviews compared to the positive. Worst app EVER

Hot garbage
July 15, 2016

Absolutely trash app. It is so complicated to navigate and mostly everything on it was junk. Luckily/Unluckily I found a leather jacket that had been advertised on another site. It looked nice and is by favorite brand. When I received it, the jacket smelled like old chemicals. I contacted the customer service and they said if I could send pictures of the damage then they would accept my return. I explained that it was a smell, not a physical issue and they refused to take the return. $150 wasted and horrible customer service to boot. Never again.

Wow. What a scam!
June 7, 2016

There will never be enough room on any website for me too have room for all the words I want to say to rant about this ridiculous scam of an online Marketplace. There is absolutely no existence of customer service, there are a lot of people that scam on this website, it's very difficult to get a complaint resolved and worst of all at a whim if they decide to review your account have the right to delete your account which makes all of your posts listings and money inaccessible. The bad part is if you accidentally use certain words their computer system spits out a warning, after a certain number of warnings you are automatically deleted and or a review of your account will lead to having your account deleted. There is no room for innocent mistakes and you can end up losing money that you have sold products for because you won't have access to your account. Do not use the site. There is a reason why it sounds too good to be true. No they don't keep a portion of your money the way Poshmark does but there is a reason why Poshmark is legitimate and has good ratings compared to this absurd joke of a marketplace. One person that I know had her account deleted because she listed a box of Keurig K-Cups. I myself had my account deleted because I use the word inspired in reference to a $5 pair of earrings I was trying to sell. They are cheap inexpensive costume jewelry type earrings and I listed them for $5. God forbid, I said that they were Chanel inspired. Apparently the word inspired is a mortal sin. Instead of deleting the listing or telling me that that was against the rules they deleted my account and have prohibited me from using this site at all. I give this Marketplace less than a year before it shuts down... it's like my grandmother used to say if you don't start you don't have to stop. So don't start. Use reputable online Marketplace sites. It's websites like this that help a person decide for and discriminate which ones are worth trying to sell something online.

At first I loved this app. But then, after I had just sent out three shipments, they flagged my next post as "counterfeit" and said they were terminating my account. The only way to get paid would be to give them my bank account information for "direct deposit". Um, no! And they never gave a specific reason for considering my products as fakes. They had "warned" me previously on other items due to other users flagging them... But didn't give a reason. This is a scam to get your bank account number or to steal your items as they hold your money in escrow. If they terminate your account then they get to keep the cash. So I'm out three authentic designer items worth hundreds and never could get more than a generic automated response.

If I could give it a zero I would
May 10, 2016

This is site has unfair practice. The site has automated responses and does not resolve any issues. The site deletes listing stating the listing is stock photos (they must think I am a supermodel) when you email with facts about any issues the responses are all automated. They suspend your account for no reason often. So if you basically want headaches and to be harassed by the site by unfair claims and awful automated costumer service. Sign up for this app. They also keep your money for a long period of time before depositing in your bank account. I understand this is how they make profit from earning interest off of our money, but come on at least have real live people in customer service... Worst experience ever! BEWARE...

Horrible customer service You have to wait forever for their response! But they will delete your item without any reason and they do that very fast. And will block you for 12 hours because of nothing. Also it's almost not possible to return an item or your money back. They worked better when they started. But now it's just horrible.

The good and bad
March 28, 2016

Overall, the site has a good concept. Sell anything you want and receive 100% of the money after you sell. As long as the transaction goes perfect you receive your money.
The problem with this site is that there must be only two people running it. Questions that are asked do not get answered for over two days. Many times they do not get answered at all. I sold an iPad on there for a relative. I was told the iPad was 3rd Generation when it was really second generation. The buyer spent $300 on it and when she received it it was the wrong item. We communicated well and I wrote Mercari and so did buyer. No one responded for a week. In the meantime her $300 was held up leaving her at a loss for that amount. I finally received a message from them stating that she would be returning the item. Thank goodness she did return my item intact and 7 days later she received her money due. The overall process took over 2 weeks and Mercari never responded to any of my messages at all and I was the one at fault. I was glad that I did receive my item back because I have heard that people send back empty boxes and mercari still provides the buyer a refund whether the seller gets their return or not. I have heard of people selling items on Mercari and a scamming buyer will state that the item was never in the package. Mercari apparently believes the buyer and the seller is out of their money. Buying and selling cheaper items on this site is the way to go but when you get into more expensive items you need to take caution.
The way a seller receives feedback is if someone gives them a happy face a neutral face or a sad face. I have received all happy faces and one:-(. The person that left the:-( actually wrote a very positive message. When I contacted her she said she meant to put the:-). I contacted mercari in order to change rating but never received a response.
This site is geared more for teenagers. If you choose to sell high quality items, you may want to list them on poshmark or another site that sell high quality items as well. Low ball offers are a constant on this site. Only if you are confident that the buyer will buy your items without hassle lead them to Mercari. I typically direct people to this site once they have shown an interest from another site.
Overall Mercari's customer service is a negative 5
The 100% return on a sell is a 10

I used Mercari after using Poshmark. I was thrilled at first due to the $0 commission that Mercari asks for, and the shipping has many different options. I was thrilled, that is, until I realized how absolutely abysmal the customer service is.

I had a really awful experience with a seller. She was abrasive, standoffish, and clearly just there to scam people and make money. She gave one word answers to everything asked about her merchandise, and gave a bad name to people trying to make an honest dollar and sell their old or unused clothing. I bought from her a pair of pants, and I paid $20+shipping for these pants. She advertised 1-2 day shipping, proof of shipment, and that the product would be in mint condition.

3 weeks later my pants arrived, with a ton of pilling, a huge hole, and a missing drawstring. They were absolutely disgusting! They reeked of smoke and were worth about $5 on a good day. I contacted Mercari asking for a refund or a return, and they told me it was too late! That if I wanted a refund I wasn't allowed to rate my seller. Well, I did rate my seller and it was too late for me to take it back, however I clearly didn't understand that and I would never have done so had I known how awful these pants would be! Mercari doesn't give 2 sh*ts about customer satisfaction, something I've learned the hard way. I paid almost $30 on a pair of busted pants, and I will never use Mercari again.

BUYER BEWARE! I urge anyone and everyone to stay off of MercariApp.

I like them

After being on Poshmark you would appreciate Mercari. I love that you have options with shipping and that there's no commission fee currently. I also like that you can leave feedback or send a dispute straight to support. For myself I have had a decent costumer service experience may twice. Twice they refunded me although one time an item I bought was against their rules (didn't know). That was awesome of them. I also like how you can message a buy or seller once you made a purchase. I would recommend them but I do not recommend buy or selling anything expensive on these apps because I'm sure no company wants to refund that much money although they should. I personally chose to stay away from buying/selling anything too expensive. Luckily for me I have had mostly great experiences and just a few bad out of about 20 purchases and only 5 sells. Simple app I like it. Hope it will add a feature where you could use emojis that's one thing I did like about Poshmark.

I've received all my items that I've bought and they didn't rip me off. Some items take slower to ship than others because of the shipping company or who you buy from. You just have to check the ratings of the seller and check to make sure there are no flaws or you might get ripped off

Customer service = an automated, generic computerized response to all/any complaints/issues you send in. It took them OVER 6 MONTHS to finally refund me for a counterfeit item! AND THATS ONLY BC I CONTACTED THE BBB! They have no phone #, won't give you their address or email, and are operated by computers- no humans are on the other end of their "support team!" They also allow their robots to delete listings as they please and freeze accounts in a random basis. I've lost credits and sales due to their corner-cutting practices. Stay away u less like to lose both money, time and patience...:-(( TWO BIG THUMBS DOWN!

Slow sales!
October 6, 2015

I've only sold a handful of items at Mercari but at snail pace. I guess the only appealing thing is they don't take any commissions but I don't there's enough foot traffic on this app. I've tried sharing my Mercari listings via other social media but hasn't gained much attention either. You can pretty much sell anything on Mercari, which is almost like eBay minus the auction feature. At one point, I got really annoyed at them when they decided to use FedEx only as their ship carrier. But I guess do to complaints, they now have both USPS and FedEx shipping options. It's a pretty easy app to use but it just doesn't get enough attention.

It's not as bad as you think.
October 2, 2015

Mercari is a place where you can buy and sell things from other people like you. I'm assuming this is a Japanese venture because the site can be set to "United States" and "Japan" but you won't find a link to their support system. Support seems to be available in app only.

For buyers: When you find a product you like, you can buy it, assuming that the seller still has the item and the app on their phone and is paying attention. Usually after a certain amount of time if the seller hasn't shipped on contacted the buyer through the app, the transaction can be cancelled at the request of the buyer.

For sellers: You can choose up to four photos and edit them in the app. You need to add a title and description, as well as choose the shipping fee, condition the item is in, size (if applicable, and price. Whole dollars only, no change.

You get $2 for yourself and a the person you refer to Mercari (if you want to use mine it's jld475, just saying).

Once you receive the item you ordered you will have to rate your seller, and sellers will have to rate the buyers. If you are not satisfied with your order when it arrives you can figure out what to do by contacting Mercari and/or the seller. Do not, under any circumstance rate the other person if you are unsatisfied with your purchase because there's nothing that you'll be able to do to get your money back if you do that.

Payment methods: Paypal, and card. You can have funds sent to your bank through the app.

Shipping methods: Labels are offered for USPS and FedEx. Mercari recommends using USPS for everyday things and FedEx for fragile things. The shipping rates are: 0-0.5 lbs = $4,0.5 - 3 lbs = $6,3 - 10 lbs = $9, and 10 - 20 lbs = $15. You can also choose to ship the item yourself.

I hope this is helpful. I have had a pretty positive experience using the service for several months now. I've had two negative experiences but one of them had deleted the app so they never knew I had purchased anything and another lady failed to disclose to me that the eye shadow palette I had bought from her (which she said was "no brand") was actually a knock off of something else. I did report the account.
