Well, not every experience is the same and I can only speak from mine. But I have used it and I think it may be the second best dating site I have used. I personally liked Mingle2day a little more but this site also seemed pretty legit to me. Don't know where all the negative reviews come from?!?!

Disgusted and a total waste of my time and hard earned money this site must make an absolute fortune from the lonely and vulnerable, i specified someone within 200 miles from me yet was inundated with American fakes a lot posing as American Soldiers trying to scam me and when we did speak sounded more like African or even Arabic, lm an impersonator myself so i know my accents, one even thought i was going to pay 2500Euro so he can leave his base where he claimed to have been fighting Isis for the past seven months yes he really did and is still messaging me now telling me how deppressed he is that i let him down massively, so deppressed in fact that he keeps hoping that now he doesnt have my love that he hopes one night when he's out leading his patrol he will be shot! But that he forgives me,,,? I told him that in that case i hope he will also forgive me for finding him so amusing for expecting me to give him this money and that i do in fact hope he is indeed shot, and put out of poor vulnerable women misery,... BE WARNED ladies if there is no profile picture chances are he aint real or he's busy looking for some innocent persons picture to use to try and reel you in with DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME ON THIS SITE.
They are just out to make money like they have of me only paid for 3 day trail then they took nearly 50quid of me without permission
This sight seams like a total waste of time. Fake pics on profiles and scammers spamming galore before i even can post a pic and look to see if i want to subscribe. I decided to look up reviews and found this page. THANK YOU FOR the honest reviews i will not waste my money on this site just to get scammed.! DO NOT LISTEN TO THE COUPLE OF (good reviews) those are bull S##T!
I made the mistake of being on Mate1. The once in awhile fakes became the all the time fakes. I kept looking for the real deals only to find more and more clever scammers. Some were obvious, but some were very good. Complaining to Mate1 does no good,. Why? I suspect they are controlled and owned by scammers. Avoid it and maybe it'll go broke and die.
This site sucks I'm cancelling right now the women I've met are scammers if they're even woman I met 3 and within a couple of hours they need a favor and everytime it involves a credit card stay away from this site

Bought a 90 membership and every time I want to use it, match asks me to subscribe to use the site. Plus I haven't found a way to contact them to find out what the problem is. Would love to be able to use the site orange get my money back.
As a man of 50+ in one month's time I DID 'meet' one or two genuine women. BUT the other 99% 1)never read my Profile although claiming they had 2) had some form of contact info OR pushed me to give mine 3)were all in their early 20s-30s 4)many wanted phone sex or for me to watch their sex cams. In one month I had over 400 "Interests" and 170 Emails! And once you've had a membership and let it lapse, you can't do much of anything but look at "who's interested in you". High monthly charges too! I contacted "Customer Service" regarding the supposed "violations - contact info; inappropriate conduct, etc... NOTHING!
It's too bad as it COULD be a legitimate site if the owners cared for their members.
They must be really happy right now

All the profiles are made up nothing but west Africans pretending... fastest way to find out the truth is ask one of them to chat on the phone lol you'll Find out real quick then how fake that site is..
I signed up at 1am on Friday night and by Saturday afternoon, I had 100 plus chat requests. My pics are not even live. This screams fishy and after reading the reviews, I am not liking where it may go if I give a credit card. How can so many young attractive ladies be so desperate to connect with a guy without even seeing his photo?
This website is a scam. The responses are phony Mate1.com are the ones sending phony responses. They also pretends someone hot-listed you. No one is hot listing you but Mate1.com. Then they have you looking like a fool by responding to an e-mail from a person who you thought emailed you; telling you how interested they are in you. The only person sending you an e-mail 75% of the time is Mate1.com wanting you to think someone is interested in you. We ought to be shame anyway searching for that perfect soul mate on line anyway like a total idiots. Be aware of those men and women who email you after 11pm. These type of individuals wait until their wife, husband, boyfriend or girlfriend go to bed and then they start tipping and dipping. If you want to meet the perfect hoodlum just log into Mate1.com hey will be waiting for you.
Most of the woman on here both in the states and Africa are after one thing your money. Stay far far far away. Fake profiles and woman who want you to pay to watch them strip. I'm done with this bs.
Joined the site a few days ago. Have already been contacted by guys who are mostly in Texas (I live in Scotland!)
Have afree a few hours chat received 2 marriage proposals.
The grammar is so suspect and the speed that some of the messages are written at is lightening speed.
Also suspicious that the messages sent are all similar to each other.
Will stick with it for another day or 2 as reading some of the reviews on here makes me think there are genuine guys there but I will not be holding my breath

Junk. Scams. Fake ads. Phony replies. Unable to cancel subscription! Won't refund my money. Won't allow me to access my account. Can't be contacted. In breach of contract. The site itself is fraudulent!

Mate 1 is absolutely bunk! Many of the women are not real. They will give the same responses and say the same things. Again and again. Only to lead you to video cam websites where you need a credit card or they are in Africa school in or nursing where they claim they are in love with you and will eventually ask for money. A very common scam. Some of the women are real but not many. Hope this helps someone. AVOID MATE 1 LIKE THE PLAGUE!
