Match Reviews Summary

Match.com exhibits a polarized reputation among its users, with significant concerns overshadowing its strengths. Positive feedback highlights the site's potential for connecting users, particularly for younger demographics, and its broad user base. However, a predominant sentiment reflects dissatisfaction with customer service, marked by unresponsive support, unjust account terminations, and perceived deceptive practices regarding subscription fees. Many users report frustrations over a lack of transparency and the prevalence of fake profiles, leading to a sense of mistrust. Overall, while Match.com offers opportunities for connections, its customer service and business practices warrant serious scrutiny.

A scam
June 10, 2017

Every single man who contacted me in the last month was a scammer. I would report it to Match, they would remove the profile, but it became ridiculous, just one after another. Then the scammer would change the (stolen) photos or the username. They don't seem to have any way or interest in eliminating them from the site. It has become a real problem. I think they're starting to get wind of lawsuits, because I never asked for a refund, and yet they sent me one for the past six months. I do believe that there must be some legit people on the site (I was there, after all!). But over two years, the only people who contacted me before the flood of scammers were complete mismatches, unemployed, often sounded mentally ill and from the other side of the country. Take a look at them on BBB-- an F rating, and thousands of complaints. That tells you something.
ETA: Forgot to mention that there is no way to tell if the people on the site are paying members, that is, can get and receive e-mail. They keep their rolls loaded by not removing profiles of people no longer active on the site. Although they must have gotten a bunch of complaints about that, because now there's a tiny green circle next to the username that says "active". But that doesn't mean paying.

I have been on match for approximately 2 1/2 months and NOT ONE person contacted me! I have reached out to several men like they say and no one gets back to you, I am far from bad looking, and yet not one person contacted me. Something isn't right with this picture. I keep clicking off the ones I don't want to see on my page, and yet, they keep sending me the same people over and over. When I contacted them, I was told they could not do anything regarding a refund and that I had to stick it out. They did stop my automatic renewal. I will NEVER use this site again or recommend Match to anyone!

Fraud
June 3, 2017

I joined Match for free as their offer suggested and revived messages from people that I thought were interested in me in one week so I joined. It cost approx $90 for 3 months (the minimum I was allowed). So after Match took my $90 I realized that my account had been "hacked". I knew this because the original messages I received were fraudulent! People sent me messages to Never contact them and they would report me and even my account sent sexually promiscuous messages! I noticed when my account had been "upgraded" and I received an email. All this within the first week of service. However Match would not accept responsibility and refund my money nor would they create a different account for me. They would only close that account which obviously I had no other choice. The thing is they knew from the start that the original messages sent to me were fraudulent. I thought Match was a legitimate company! The whole experience was so degrading since my pictures were connected to my account and I could run into someone some day that I apparently sent hundreds of fraudulent messages to. Watch oit!

Sorry Charlie
May 31, 2017

It's bad enough to be alone, in a career that does not lend itself to meeting someone who is available for dating and feeling lonely and vulnerable. Then along comes a dating service that promises to "match" you up with just the right person for you. So I spent time placing just the right photos, a lot of time writing and re-writing a very well thought out profile, filled in all the blanks and signed up. No luck first try. Oh there were men that gave the appearance of being interesting. I I winked, I started a conversation, I did everything I was told to do - absolutely no replies. Not even a "sorry but not interested." Okay, maybe it's me - I've never done this before. I tried again, what could I lose. I'll give them the benefit of the doubt. Surprise! Surprise! The photo I used the first time - the profile I thought I had deleted popped up immediately along with many emails from men interested in meeting me, and I could see them and communicate with them if only I paid for another subscription. So I don't have to open a brand new account? They already have me on file as an existing member? But I deleted my subscription, didn't I?
I'm still gullible enough though, to believe that one of those men hiding in my email box might just be someone I'd like to meet so I subscribe again. But wait a minute. These guys don't match anything in my profile and they're all hundreds, if not thousands of miles away. What gives? I scroll through the Mutual Matches and the Reverse Matches anyway. Surprise again! Those few that I was interested in the first time around and did respond to (who by the way, never responded back) were still there. Well sorry Charlie! Fool me once, perhaps. Fool me twice, no way.
I really took this at face value. I had high hopes that this would at least broaden the field for meeting new people. I am more discouraged and disillusioned than ever and many dollars poorer. Don't get suckered in. It's a waste of time and money, not to mention the huge blow to your self esteem. I'll continue to be single and find ways to enjoy it by continuing with the friends in my own back yard. Thanks, but no thanks.

This company preys on vulnerable people and is awful. I created an account, spent time on my profile, and started to exchange messages with matches. The next day, I tried to log in and my account was blocked. I called customer service and was told they could not give me any information but had to "escalate" the matter. Two days later, I got an email from Match.com saying my account had been terminated, that they could not tell me why, and that they could not disclose any information without a court order. I called customer service again and got the same answer. Meanwhile, there are people who I actually thought I might like to meet (the whole point of the site) who I suddenly am blocked from meeting with. I reviewed the terms of service and I didn't violate any of them; I've passed multiple federal background checks for employment. Since they won't disclose any information about my account, I can't even find out why I was terminated or attempt to fix it. Avoid this company.

Forget online dating. I had only one date in three months. He seemed like a nice enough guy, but he is extremely outdoorsy and builds hiking trails in his spare time, and my idea of being outdoors is sitting on my covered deck with a glass of wine. Anyway, I wore a nice dress to our dinner date when I should have worn hiking boots and khakis. Those would have suited him better because he seems to be looking for a female clone of himself. NOT GOING TO HAPPEN, BUDDY! I'd rather be alone than endure hours of sitting in front of my computer reviewing potential dates. I just cancelled my subscription to match.com. Good riddance.

I would like to know how they handle complaints, eg, men who for no reason at all send emails calling you every filthy name that comes to mind for no reason at all - when you report a concern, do they shut down these monster's accounts, or? It is unbelievably horrible to open one's email to find this horror

The first guy was just a negative person altogether. The second guy tried to scam me. Talk about wasting a month of my life to him. He went by the name of "Flash". Claimed to be a geologist and had a website. He looked legit enough. Then he asked me for money after being "robbed". I took the picture he gave me and had it checked out at Google Reverse Image Review and found that he had 3 other "names" at other websites. Watch out for him!

The dying database
May 24, 2017

This site is overall not to bad. The problems is that they never clean up their database so most of the time you are looking at some dead profiles where the guys/girl didn't connect to for over a year. I understand they are doing that to give you hope, but it feels more like a fraud! They just give you a hint "inactive for more than 3 weeks"! The problem is that represents 90% of the profiles. In other words: you are losing your money.

I am picky, friends talked me into it and it was the best thing I ever did! I met an amazing man. We have been together 3 years and are getting married this December. I couldn't imagine my life without him he's definitely the best thing to ever happen to me. There's certainly a lot of good/bad to everything but I would recommend this to everyone. Good luck.

Two years ago I joined Match.com and was contacted by a scammer named Carlos Hernandez. I was scammed out of my entire life savings. If this person contacts you don't fall for it. He's all around the United States. His photos are fake and he is relentless in getting money wired to South Africa. Just a warning to members of Match.com. Match.com does not screen members on their site. Its a hunting ground for scammers.

Match.com took the wrong payment from my account, I immediately contacted customer service for a refund, as of today I am 5 weeks waiting for a refund of 166.00 euro, it has cost me a fortune calling and being left waiting for my call to be answered, match.com is now trying to tell me it's the banks problem, my account has been suspended and I still have no refund. Very very disappointed and would not recommend this site to anyone. Catherine K

I sat on the free trial for several days, considering whether I would join, during that time a got a message that I had one message I could answer for free. Attached to it was an email. I was so new to this, and excited to have taken this step. Anyways I paid for six months but upon the first day, this scammer had his hooks into me. Convinced me, that in order to work on a relationship, we should leave the site. For three weeks, loved bombed then, he said he wanted to send me something from over seas. He sure did, 148 long stemmed roses and a teady bear. Then 4 weeks, things started to get weird. He's asking me for 5000us. Now he's angry! I'm like I don't have that kind of money and a man that is able to send me that amount of flowers, doesn't need to be asking me for money. Then the extortion came, I was video you. I'm like so what. Not much of a video. But now I was scared. Had the police in the house, notified credit bureau, knew my identy meaning pictures have been stolen. Moneygram and western union notified. FDF Flowers, note they didn't return my call they promised. And then match... Fought with them at how they were putting members at risk with their site. Argued that they were aware that email was sent to me and that they should have notified me, I was at risk. Don't you think a flag would go up, joins one day and then the next gone. My life has been a mess for two months dealing with this ordeal. I was ready to love again and now I'm too afraid too. So much more to say, but you get the idea. It's not safe, from the young to the old, scammers are there and ready to bounce and match does nothing to protect you.
