What kind of company cancels your order without notifying you and the establishment who gave them your money for payment? This is not the kind of company I want to do business with, nor do I recommend that anyone does business with them online.
This is a website that serves itself more than consumers. Supposedly non-profit website based on ideals of green and sustainable, it receives a percentage of sales and thus has an agenda when withholding negative reviews. On most product page, negative reviews won't open to show detail while rave reviews are open for all. And when I commented on this, they decided to delete my account, wiping out all my purchase history. Now I am due a refund for product detained for over a week and had gone rotten in the process, but there's not record of my purchase through LocalHarvest.org. Not to mention, in the past, I've come across farmers pasting USDA organic seal on products not certified. This website is nothing but a parasite. You should always double check the certification with the state agency. I agree, there are some good farmers that sell through this website. But ultimately, as one farmer told me directly, this is nothing more than ebay for farm products.
Okay website lots of kind of out dated info, a bit hard to navigate. Not sure if they are non profit or what. I was in a CSA that told me they paid local harvest for some kind of computer program, it was a small percentage of each transaction but I imagine that could add up. They just do not seem very straight forward as far as if it is a business or not for profit (although I find that problematic with a lot of non profits!)
We ordered seeds in March. They said they mailed them April 4th and charged our credit card. They had not arrived after a week, so I emailed them. They replied the next day, saying they were not sure why we didn't receive them and would send more later that day. Twelve days later they still had not arrived, and yes, they have the correct address. After two supposed mailings, I don't think it's the fault of the postal service. Now it's to late to plant them. I've requested a refund. I hope I won't have to dispute the charge with my credit card company.
Local Harvest is such a great great site! They help you find all the most amazing locally grown foods. And if you can't find something you want locally, you can order through the site from a high quality farm. It's really fabulous, and even if you don't care about the health benefit, it all tastes so so much better =)
