BEWARE of this site! Terrible business practice! This site comes up under "FREE RESUME TEMPLATES" and then after you work hard and create a resume, they require a nominal ($1.95) fee which seems fair... but they don't make it clear that there will be an ongoing $34.95 MONTHY charge! By the time I noticed this recurring charge, I spent over A HUNDRED DOLLARS for my resume.
As many people have commented, it is a misleading website- I am sure this billing practice is part of their business model. I feel like I've been TRICKED. And to top it off, they do their banking in Cyprus.

Dear Dana,

Thank you for your comments.

Our free trial account gives you the opportunity to try out our resume builder before deciding to purchase. If you like what you see, we ask you to pay for a trial subscription. The ability to print, email, or download your resume are only listed as a feature of the paid subscription and are not listed as a feature of the free trial.

Dana, regarding our recurring billing feature -- we make every effort to let our subscribers know of this auto-renewing feature. We have it in print when you subscribe and we even e-mail you those details when we send your payment confirmation. We also inform you of the many ways for you to unsubscribe your accounts – either by telephone, live chat with a LiveCareer representative, or by e-mail. If you do not want to use any of our customer service options that we’ve listed, we also have a cancellation feature right on our website.

We are an international company serving people from all over the globe and we process payment through our e-commerce provider located in UK. We hate it that you feel like you are being tricked, as the actual purpose of our business is to assist people in finding great employment opportunities.

If you have any questions regarding your subscription, our customer service team is available 18 hours a day, 7 days a week from 6am- Midnight EST at toll free 1-888-816-0576 or through live chat on our site. If you prefer you can send us an email to: [email protected]

This website preys upon the goodwill of some of the most vulnerable in society -- the unemployed. It misleads and obscures in order to con money from people who devote time, sometimes a good amount of it, to crafting something using services that are artfully made out to be free. The site makes no forthright attempt to reveal that absolutely nothing useful about their site is free, when this information should be on their home page.

I got the 14 day trial, and luckily cancelled in time to avoid the $34.95 monthly auto-subscription that would have followed. I was on top of this because I sensed something rotten in the state of Denmark when, downloading the Word template forms of my resumes, I noticed that they came out more or less uneditable for the future, with font sizes mysteriously changed and non-character bullets that stymy attempts to alter what you've written. You literally need the service to even utilize the formatting in the future.

Please: avoid this site like the plague it is. I hope the people who own this operation never sleep again, forever haunted by visions of their victims. If they had any decency, they would simply reveal the auto-subscription and other monetary terms up front, on the home page of the site. They still might get good business, but I guess hoodwinking people is more profitable. To the owners: you are low, nasty, horrible excuses for human beings. Don't you have hearts? Don't you care? Don't you see what it is you're doing? Evil.

Dear DC,

Thank you for your comments. We appreciate negative and constructive feedback from our customers.

The free account is the ability to try out the Resume Builder to get a feel for how it works, and see what it has to offer before deciding to purchase. There is no cost to TRY it out. At this time we do offer free text (. Txt) download of your resume, but if you want to print a resume to bring to an interview, email your resume/cover letter, or download a professional looking resume then you do need a subscription.

We also take great care to inform our subscribers that the subscription is auto-renewing and you can cancel at any time. Underneath the description of the subscription in bullet form, as well as in the confirmation email you receive once you subscribe. We do offer several ways to cancel including by phone, live chat, email and self-cancellation in your Account Settings, but we’re glad that you were able to see that and cancelled your service on time.

DC, we take pride in providing effective and valuable career, resume and cover letter assistance to hundreds of thousands of people and we make every effort to let our subscribers know of this auto-renewing feature as it stated on our subscription sales page as well as on the email confirmation we sent upon purchase.

If you have any questions regarding your subscription, our customer service team is available 18 hours a day, 7 days a week from 6am- Midnight EST at toll free 1-888-816-0576 or through live chat on our site. If you prefer you can send us an email to: [email protected]

I was just looking for a free template. After I worked for hours on a resume-I got to the page where you had to pay. After working that hard I went ahead and gave them my credit card information. Then found out there was a monthly fee. It took me hours more just to get the account closed. This is a scam. Don't fall for it

Do NOT fall for this site! Yes, you can view sample resumes and cover letters, and do the "free 14 day trial" but YOU BETTER make sure you get a confirmation e mail when you cancel BEFORE the 14 days expires, or else YOU WILL be charged $35.65 immediately! To make things even WORSE, try calling them about it! You'll wait forever for an answer, THEN when they try to look up your e mail that you KNOW you sent them canceling the subscription, that's another 14 minute wait! Don't waste your time!

Hello Chanin,

Thank you for your comments.

Chanin, we make every effort to let our customers know that our subscription service is auto-renewing and that if you don’t cancel before the end of your trial, we assume you want to continue using our service. We offer many ways to cancel your subscription – e-mail, live chat, or by phone. You can even go to our website and cancel your subscription from there.

We’re not quite sure what happened with the 14 minutes you state you waited on the phone. Our representatives are trained in finding an account, even if the caller cannot recall what e-mail they used when they opened their account. We pride ourselves in offering excellent customer service to all our callers, and we will certainly look into this extended period of waiting that you experienced. We do hope that you were able to resolve whatever issues you had with our website. So, our apologies to you that you suffered this frustration.

Thank you again for your comments.

Sincerely,

The site was very useful but they charged my credit card for 2 months after. We were busy working on resumes and obviously missed some small print that said we needed to cancel a membership. Very disappointing, shady business!
I contacted them and they refused to reimburse the money. Reputable companies like Apple etc would never lower themselves to these tricks. I guess that explains their success!
Be careful!,

What a rip off bunch of con artists.
I paid for a 48 hr subscription and have also been charged $34.95 per month for the last 3 months. Now i have to go through the process of cancelling my Bankcard and having a new one reissued. SHAME... SHAME... SHAME

Hello Kingi,

We are puzzled by your complaint. We do not have a 48 hour subscription. What we do have is a 14 day introductory subscription, which when you sign up, we let you know clearly and without any doubt, that if you do not cancel your subscription prior to the end of the 14 days, your subscription will automatically renew at the monthly rate of $34.95. Further, when we send your payment confirmation to your e-mail, we again offer the information that if you do not wish to continue your subscription, you do need to unsubscribe your account.

You can cancel your LC account in a variety of ways – either by e-mail at [email protected], by telephone to our customer service (which is open 18 hours a day, 7 days a week at 1-888-816-0576) or even self-cancelling by clicking onto your Account Settings page and following the prompts on how to cancel your account.

We are very proud of the fact that we have helped people all over the world find their dream jobs by utilizing our award winning resumes and cover letter templates. We are sorry that your experience with LiveCareer was not a satisfactory one.

Good luck to you, Kingi!

Sincerely,

LiveCareer

What a way to steal money "Professionally" I give a 5 stars on that...
I used this site to create a letter and I deleted my account right after. And no even a two weeks later I've been charged $35 because the automatic renewal... I don't recommend the site. I give a 1 star because there's not 0 star.

Dear Lilly,

Thank you for bringing this matter to us and we apologize for the misunderstanding. Just to clarify, Livecareer Resume builder offers an introductory subscription of $3.95 for 14 days, which has an auto-renewal feature and we make every effort to let you, our subscriber, know that unless you call, e-mail or live chat with a LiveCareer representative to cancel your subscription, it will renew for our low price of $34.95 a month. If you don’t want to use any of our customer service options that we’ve listed, we also have a cancellation feature right on our website. Deleting the account on site will delete your account details, but you still need to cancel to stop further charges.

Again, Lilly, we make every effort to let our subscribers know of this auto-renewing feature – we have it in print when you subscribe and we even e-mail you those details when we send your payment confirmation for the 14 day trial.

If you have any questions regarding your subscription, our customer service team is available 18 hours a day, 7 days a week from 6am- Midnight EST at toll free 1-888-816-0576 or through live chat on our site. If you prefer you can send us an email to: [email protected]

I also signed for the 7 day subscription and just realized I was being charged $35 a month. The rep told me that it was in the fine print that we would automatically be signed up for a monthly subscription if we didn't cancel. Why is it called a 7 day subscription if I have to call and cancel it after 7 days!? Obviously several others have had this problem as well and hopefully are getting their money refunded. Why doesn't this company stop doing this and actually give people what they think they are signup for and save themselves the bad reputation and the hassle of having to make all the refunds... they're going to have to give the money back either way, no point in tricking people. - Tara

Dear Tara,

I apologize for the misunderstanding. The subscription that you paid for has an auto-renewal feature and you can cancel whenever you are finished. Many of our customers continue to use our service for several months during their entire job search. Our subscription prices and policies are not in fine print, but rather are clearly stated in the details of the subscription underneath each price option, in bullet form as well as in the confirmation email you receive once you subscribe. We do offer several ways to cancel including by phone, live chat, email, and self- cancellation in your Account Settings! If we have issued you a refund; we only do that as one time courtesy credit.

If you have any questions regarding your subscription our customer service team is available 18 hours a day, 7 days a week from 6am- Midnight EST at toll free 1-888-816-0576 or through live chat on our site. If you prefer you can send us an email to: [email protected]

What the actual $#*! though? I went on this site for the 7 day subscription too under the impression that it was a one time charge, when I looked on my statement they charged me $34.95... TWICE. I don't appreciate being tricked like that. My bank is disputing the first charge since it's already posted and now I'm in the process of trying to get a refund for the second charge...

DON'T USE THIS WEBSITE! Just like everyone else says, they're a major scam... there's definitely better websites out there.

I would actually rate this 0 stars if I could! This company basically scams people into thinking they are only paying $3 for a 7 day period because that is the part that is in huge print and then in tiny print that probably no one sees it says they will bill you $35 a month if you don't cancel! So I didn't see this part and I got no other notifications and then I saw this taken out of my bank account. I mean come on!? Okay yeah I can see a monthly payment for this site, like maybe $3 a month! It is only a template site, for $35 a month?! And not making it upfront and clear for people to read?! I don't even pay that much for my gym membership! These people should be ashamed for misleading so many people and it is most likely people who don't have a lot of money because if they are creating a resume it means you are looking for a job and need money! Shame on you people!

I fully understood about the recurring charge of $34.95 and figured once I got a job, I would cancel the subscription. Well, of course I forgot and just happened to check my bank account via online one day and saw the $34.95 charge, by coincidence, that same day. What a stroke of luck to catch the charge on the same day it occured! I immediately emailed to cancel and guess what? Between the time I emailed to cancel and the time I got a response from livecareer a few hours later, they billed my card again! Two (2) charges of $34.95 in the same day! I immediately called my financial institution and they immediately cancelled my card. DO NOT USE THIS RESUME SERVICE! There are several others out there that are honest and trustworthy AND utilize professional business practices.

I used this site to build a resume for a job I was applying for. Signed up for the week membership. I got the job and didn't think about my resume again. Looking over my credit card statement I realized that I was being billed 34.95 a month. I may have missed something in the fine print, but I was honestly unaware that they would be billing me this amount monthly until I cancelled. I really hate when companies do this kind of stuff and don't make it absolutely clear what you are signing up for. Would not use this site. There are plenty of FREE resources out there to help with resume building and job hunting.

Hi,
April 5, 2013

Hi,

I used your website to write up my resume which I was quite happy with and cancelled my membership afterwards. I was then surprised to see that 2 weeks later, you had charged my credit card approximately $33.

Upon emailing you, I did not get a reply and to be honest am getting quite annoyed and exasperated as I thought I had cancelled this subscription and yet when I question this, no one replied.

Not happy.

Suckesr you in with a nice enough UI, decent experience overall. Extremely buggy resume editing leads to a lot of frustration, but overall it would be very worthwhile as there's a lot of features... except they're GREEDY.

I would be highly inclined to pay for their services if I, a little down the road, wanted to expand on my resume in detail, as I'm sure this would make it easy to alter the layout and feel tailored to individual opportunities. But even just using basic features they want you to pay for the right to print or download. You're going to MAKE me subscribe just to download the file I created on my own, before I can even be sure I'm satisfied with the outcome? Ridiculous. There is absolutely ZERO effective way to use the end product without paying them money, something they would NEVER let you in on before you start. Why you will not allow me even basic use of the end product before I get scammed like others with a sneaky monthly charge

Thanks for wasting my time on a buggy, and in the end, useless product.

Dear Bronson,

The ability to print, email, or download your resume are only listed as a feature of the paid subscription and are not listed as a feature of the free trial.
