Total scam. Why doesn't the BBB shut this site down. I used the trial period to build a resume. Cancelled too late for the first months charges but I understand, that was my fault for not paying attention. I cancelled in June and they have proceeded to continue to charge me for the next 3 months. I used their live chat feature and wanted to reach through my computer and strangle "Celeste" on the other end. They mysteriously didn't show any record of my cancellation 3 months earlier but they would be happy to cancel my account today. Great so can I get a refund for the past 3 months charges for $34.95/month, you can see I didn't log on for the past 3 months because I DIDN'T HAVE AN ACCOUNT? To which Celeste replied No. She then quickly disconnected.
I, like many of you, signed up for the 2 week service. When I went to cancel my account, it was too late and they already charged me $34.95. When I chatted with a customer service rep, mid typing she ended the conversation. So then I called. What did they tell me? That since I've paid, why don't I take advantage of the services? Hmm I don't know, because I already have a job and don't need your services. What I do need is $34.95 in my account to pay my bills! This company is a sham, stay away! You sign up for one thing, and they sign you up something else.
Dear Nicole,
Thanks for your comments.
We are very clear that when you subscribe there is an auto-renewing feature for which you can cancel anytime and if you don’t cancel your subscription within the given period, we will bill you at the monthly rate of $34.95. We state this on your payment confirmation page and again in your payment confirmation email.
Many subscribers continue to use the service and update their resumes for each job they apply to, and appreciate the continued service. We don’t sign you up for something else; we just want you take full advantage of the services you’ve already paid for. If a subscriber does not wish to continue their subscription and does not want to be billed further, we have multiple ways by which to cancel: You can call our customer service number at 1-888-816-0576, 17 hours a day, 7 days a week; you can cancel by live chat, or, by writing an -mail to [email protected]. You can even go to our website, where there is a self-cancellation feature under the “My Account” section.
Best regards,
LiveCareer
I am in the same boat as everyone else... Agreed to a one-off $2.95 resume template and was then charged $40.15 (Australian) several months later for an unauthorised subscription. Am in the process of requesting a refund as I did not even use their services as I had problems with the software not saving data correctly. Total rip-off. Stay away!
Dear Michelle,
Thank you for your comments.

This is a total scam. The aim (in theory) is to provide resume templates at a cost which can be completed and downloaded.
The problem is that the site is unstable - the data gets lost and is downloaded in unrecognisable format - which cannot be reformatted nor modified afterwards.
Am absolutely furious for spending so much time inputting information and data only to loose it again.
Stay away - this is a complete waste of money.
Dear Sharon,
We thank you for your comments and appreciate your feedback.
Our free account allow you to try out the Resume Builder to get a feel for how it works, and see what it has to offer before deciding to purchase. At this time we offer a free text (. Txt) download of your resume, but if you want to print out a resume in a different format, email your resume/cover letter, or download a professional looking resume, then you do need a subscription.
We haven’t noticed any site instability, but we will certainly look into it. Your data should be automaticlaly saved, but if you are having problems, please contact our customer service.

Live Career gets you to build a resume on their site then at the point of finalisation advise a payment of $2-95 is needed to download the resume with a monthly subscription of around $35. When you ask them they say its ok we will cancel your subscription so you will only pay the small fee once. Thats all good but then when you download the document it is that formatted you need to be a genius to make any amendments outside their system. They say just use our system to make changes but when you do it never comes out how you expect, then they advised me that they would fix it within 15 minutes, that was about an hour ago and now guess what, the live chat has shut down. What a scam.
Hello Leon,
We apologize if you experienced errors in formatting. We are aware of the issue we had while you were chatting with our representative and if your resume still is not formatted to your satisfaction, please call us at our customer service department at 1-888-816-0576 where we are open 18 hours a day, 7 days a week and one of our representatives can help you retrieve a clean version of your resume. You can also reach us by e-mail at [email protected].
Thank you so much for writing.
Again like all customers, I have had them take $35.00 a month taken from my account without my acknowledgement. I used a $2.15 resume builder with which I was satisfied with, and now I look at my account with $2.00 in my account left because jackasses yet again take money out without my authorization. This money was for last second gas and food, for which I desperately need until I get paid on the 3rd because of labor day. Now we are officially broke because that money was taken away. I never received one email from this thieving company. I will call you live career, and I will report you to every bureau out there and maybe even a lawsuit will come forth. I am not the only customer with this issue livecareer, so obviously something is NOT working in customer service. I don't want a snide apology, I don't want a hey we emailed you, I want my money back! I want everyone customer on here with their money back or I will slam you with a lawsuit so hard your children's children will feel it.

Live Career resume builder is the biggest "legal" or so they say, scam out there! They took $444 over the past year out of my credit card and food out of my children's mouths. I signed up for a $2.95 service and have now paid $444 for absolutely NOTHING. This is highway robbery. What a joke. They said they would refund me $34, wow! Isn't that nice of them. It's like a robber stealing your purse and telling you he'd give you back your lipstick.! I will DEFINATLY be reporting this joke of a company to the better business bureau! I would suggest any of you others who've had the same thing happen do the same. Companies like this should be taken down.
Dear Heather,

Agreed, with others this site makes it unnecessarily hard to cancel.
Dear Bryan,
Thanks for your comment.
We make cancellation really easy as we give you multiple ways to cancel your subscription: By calling our customer service number at 1-888-816-0576, 17 hours a day, 7 days a week; by live chat, by e-mail at [email protected], or you can even go to our website, where there is a self-cancellation feature under the “My Account” section.

I used LiveCareer one time and was willing to pay the small upfront fee of approximately $2.95. Six months later, I discovered that they had charged me $34.95 for the past six months. I had NO idea that this was happening or that I authorized this to be done. After several calls and emails, they refunded four months' worth of charges, but they refused to refund two months' worth. They claimed that they sent me a confirmation email, which they said had the terms, but I have absolutely no record of receiving it, and they were unable to produce a copy of it either. When Anna B. On here says that their terms are clear, she is not being truthful. They are NOT clear. They have a sneaky approach, called gray charging, wherein they bury the notification that they will be charging you additional fees in a plethora of fine print. Poor Anna B, she has got to have one of the most miserable jobs there is. Can you imagine spending your entire day telling people that the earth is flat when EVERYONE knows it isn't!? In my last email, I told LiveCareer that I would be sharing my experience with them on the Internet, and here I am, the first of many reviews I will be posting! And since my local tv news station's consumer protection department recommends also reporting shady sites like LiveCareer to the FTC, I will be doing that as well! The business plan of this company is to deceive people of money, and that's it! Look at the resources they have allotted to deal with the complaints - they have a representative responding to nearly every review posted on the Internet.
Dear Jennifer,
Thanks for your comments. We welcome all feedback from our customers.
Our subscription prices and policies are clearly stated in the details of the subscription underneath each price option, prior to purchase. We also he details of subscription in bullet form as well as in the confirmation email we sent automatically upon purchase. We do offer several ways to cancel including by phone, live chat, email, and self- cancellation in your Account Settings! If a request for cancellation is made there will be no charges that will be incurred.
Jennifer, an overwhelming majority of our subscribers are aware of the many ways to cancel their subscription, and do so in a timely manner. We are also not quite sure why you would allow a charge that you claim you know nothing about to continue to appear on your banking statement for a full six months without doing further research.
If you have any questions, our customer service team is available 18 hours a day, 7 days a week from 6am- Midnight EST at toll free 1-888-816-0576 or through live chat on our site. If you prefer you can send us an email to: [email protected]. We also list our contact information on our "Contact Us" and "About Us" Pages on our site.

My daughter had a school project which required the production of a professional resume for a famous scientist. We used the $4.94 service for a one time production of that resume for her school project, then totally forgot about that web site... until I saw a $34.95 charge on my credit card months later.
We neither request for nor consent to any monthly service from livecareer. It's a shamcareer! They buried the "automatic subscription" info in an email which we never read! If I were a lawyer, I would have a class action lawsuit against livecareer and get all the money back for the victim.
What a shame! They will never get any business from me, my daughter, my daughter's friend again.
Dear Feng,
Thank you for your comments
We never buried the “automatic subscription” information as we make every effort of letting our customer know of our recurring billing feature, that your subscription will auto-renew if you do not cancel your subscription during the introductory period. We also provide you with the information on the many ways to cancel your subscription, if you wish to avoid your subscription renewing at the monthly rate. You can cancel by calling our customer service team which is open 18 hours a day, 7 days a week at toll free 1-888-816-0576, by live chat or by e-mail to [email protected]. There is even a self-cancellation feature under “My Account” on our website.
Best Regards,
Livecareer
Terrible site. I only signed up for the $1.95 to print the resume. Yesterday they took 34.95 out of my account without my permission. After much haggling they agreed to refund my money minus a $2.56 service charge. What a scam. I will report them to the States Attorney General.
Dear Beverly,
Thank you for your comments.
Beverly, we take great care in letting our customers know what they are subscribing to, it is stated on the subscription sales page, payment confirmation and email we sent upon purchase. We also provide many ways in which you can cancel to avoid from incurring the monthly charge.
If you have more questions please feel free to contact our customer service at at toll free 1-855-213-0348, by live chat or by e-mail to [email protected].

AVOID using this service! The resume builder is good, but you are charged a one time fee of 2.95, then they refuse to refund you any charges if you do not cancel before the billing cycle startes, even if it is one day! You cannot access anyone by phone as their "phone lines are down" and it took four attempts to chat with anyone as they end the chat while you are still typing. Even mid conversation!
Dear Terri,
Thank you for your comments and for appreciating Resume Builder.
We are very clear that when you subscribe there is an auto-renewing feature, and if you were unable to cancel your subscription within the given period, we will bill you at the monthly rate of $34.95. We inform you of this feature on your payment confirmation page and again give you this information when we send you your payment confirmation to the e-mail address that you provided us.
We give you multiple ways to cancel your subscription by phone, chat, by e-mail at [email protected], or you can even go to our website, where there is a self-cancellation feature under the “My Account” section. We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience if you were unable to get hold of us yesterday by phone and if chat gets disconnected in the middle of conversation. Our systems were being upgraded, which unexpectedly had an effect on our phone service and chat feature. We would like to have this issue resolved for you. Please give us a call at our customer service number at 1-888-816-0576, 17 hours a day, 7 days a week.
Best regards,
LiveCareer
I paid for the 1.95 trial and tried to cancel, but was told it was a day to late; so I paid the 39? Or there about, which they charged my checking account. One month later... they charged me again. I sent in my unsubscribe notice over three weeks this time and still had the second charge... HOW DO I GET HELP?
Hello Char C,
We would appreciate if you would call our customer service staff at 1-888-816-0576 anytime between the hours of 6am and midnight, Eastern Time; by live chat or by e-mail to [email protected]. We would very much like to follow up with you so that we may track the issues you are having.
We look forward to hearing from you.

Live Career is about as sneaky a scam you will find.
I built a resume - which for the record I was satisifed with - and opted for the "$2.95 14-day trial". My understanding was that this would be a one-off payment, with my access to Live Career's services expiring after the 14 days.
I found out this morning I had unknowingly paid over $120 to these crooks due to a monthly subscription to a service I never used after I built my resume. All requests for a refund have been denied and I refuse to believe the claim only "0.3%" of customer feedback are complaints to Live Career based on others' experiences on this website.
Avoid them at all costs. It's horrendous this company preys on people - many who are out of work thus building a resume - in such a despicable manner.
We appreciate you sharing your experience with us, Andrew. We strive to deliver A+ customer service and apologize if we haven’t met that standard. We’d like to help you address your concern so you can have a great experience with us, please contact us at https://www.livecareer.com/contact-us
It promotes free resume builder and then after you build your resume it asks for a small fee ($3.95) to save your resume. Once they have your credit card then they charge it $34.95/ month. If you call them on it they say you have a subscription and would be charged monthly continuously unless you cancelled... the subscription that you never knew you had! RIP OFF!
Dear Tammy,
Thanks for your comments.
It is true that we promote free resume builder, because it is free to create a resume, utilize the tools, designs, templates and text tuner samples. However, to print, email or download, we do ask that you activate a subscription which is only $3.95 for the first 14 days. We make it quite clear, both on our payment confirmation page as well as the payment confirmation e-mail that we send you, that if you do not cancel your subscription at the end of 14 days, your subscription will automatically renew on a monthly basis.
Many subscribers continue to use the service and update their resumes for each job for which they apply and appreciate the continued service. If a subscriber does not wish to continue their subscription, we have multiple ways by which to cancel: You can call our customer service number at 1-888-816-0576, 17 hours a day, 7 days a week; you can cancel by live chat, or, by writing an -mail to [email protected]. You can even go to our website, where there is a self-cancellation feature under the “My Account” section.
Best regards,
LiveCareer
It's a negative 5... without the "cussing" symbols! They are sneaky! Oh it's "free" to place your resume on one of their many lovely templates... and THAT IS IT! You have to pay to email, download or even print it! Plus, the site kept switching my info around randomly! I kept re-doing and re-doing till it finally accepted it! Then it kept flashing that I had been inactive for over 90 minutes when I JUST FINISHED! Really? AWFUL... I wasted hours out of my day! STAY AWAY!
Hi Pink S.
Thanks for your comments.
Our free trial gives you the opportunity to try out our resume builder before deciding to purchase. If you like what you see, we ask you to pay for a subscription. The ability to print, email, or download your resume are only listed as a feature of the paid subscription and are not listed as a feature of the free trial. We're sorry for any confusion.
Please contact us immediately there might be bug that’s why this keeps on happening. This could be due to several factors such as your operating system or your word processor. Luckily, we have customer service available to all of our users 18 hours a day, 7 days a week to help with any issues. Our agents will help to retrieve a clean version of your resume. You can also try downloading a PDF version instead.
Best regards,
LiveCareer
Paid a one time fee of $4.95. Since June 2,2013 I have been charged a total of $179.70
Hi Stacey W.
I apologize for the misunderstanding. We explain that the subscription is auto-renewing, underneath the description of the subscription in bullet form, as well as in the confirmation email you receive once you subscribe. We do offer several ways to cancel including by phone, live chat, email and self-cancellation in your Account Settings.
If you have any questions regarding your subscription our customer service team is available 18 hours a day, 7 days a week from 6am- Midnight EST at toll free 1-888-816-0576 or through live chat on our site. If you prefer you can send us an email to: [email protected]

Be vary wary of additional fees on this site. They get you to sign up with a low fee, then hit you with monthly fees of $34.95. I signed up my 12 year old son to create a very simple resume for a class project (the site said the cost was $2.95) and was stunned to find additional $34.95 charges on my credit card statement. When I contacted them to get the charges reversed, they said no way, in spite of the fact that the resume produced was for a long dead historical figure! Stay away!
Dear David,
Thanks for your comments.
We are very clear that when you subscribe there is an auto-renewing feature for which you can cancel anytime and if you don’t cancel your subscription, we will bill you at the monthly rate of $34.95. We state this feature on your payment confirmation page and again give you this information when we send you your payment confirmation to the e-mail address that you use when you signed up. We understand that this is for a class project, but we give you multiple ways to cancel your subscription: By calling our customer service number at 1-888-816-0576, 17 hours a day, 7 days a week; by live chat, by e-mail at [email protected], or you can even go to our website, where there is a self-cancellation feature under the “My Account” section to avoid incurring this charge if service is no longer needed.
Best regards,
LiveCareer
I updated my resume at myperfectresume.com which is a "sister" website to livecareer.com as I was told. I too only signed up for the 14 day trial. But because I did not cancel my account they charged me 34.95. I called and explain my situation and I was told that I was sent an email, explaining this would happen if I didn't cancel my account. No where on the website does it say that you have to cancel the account or you would be charged full price. It's very very frustrating! I wouldn't recommend this site to anyone. One is better off doing their own resume themselves.
Dear Jessica,
Thank you for your comments.
Jessica, we take great care in letting our customers know what they are subscribing to, it is stated on the subscription sales page, payment confirmation and email we sent upon purchase. We also provide many ways in which you can cancel. You can cancel by calling our customer service team which is open 18 hours a day, 7 days a week at toll free 1-855-213-0348, by live chat or by e-mail to [email protected]. There is even a self-cancellation feature under “My Account” on our website.

I ordered the two week trial for 3.95 so that I was able to download my resume to send to employers. After I paid and downloaded it, it had all these artifacts where a space would be & I had to go back and delete it. They make your resume look great on the sight but after you pay all u have is a bunch of garbage! Would have been faster to just format the resume myself. I would not recommend this site to anyone and hopefully people read the reviews before they purchase anything unlike I did.
Hello Kim,
Thank you for your comments.
We would appreciate if you would call our customer service staff at 1-888-816-0576 anytime between the hours of 6am and midnight, Eastern Time. We would very much like to follow up with you so that we may track the issues you are having. We also may be able to offer some helpful information to you.
Thanks, Kim, and look forward to hearing from you.

Answer: This is what the site advertised: For 14 day access, $14.95, and for a year $39.80. However, signing up for ANY service aloows the site to store your payment information for further billing, and getting in touch with them, much less obtaining help is nigh impossible. After two weeks they will pull $39.80 MONTHLY from your payment method (please see my review and others on Google and yelp for further verification of this).
Answer: Do not use this site!
Answer: I had to cancel my Debit Card account with Bank of America, because the Bank refused to block LiveCareer from my account. I wonder if they are in cahoots or what? I believe a class action suit may be required so we can get our funds back.
Answer: Call your bank and change your card number Call them and let them know you have contacted your bank and will contact the better business bureau of you don't get a full refund. Then contact the better bBB and file a formal complaint. You will have a refund within a week. That's how I got my money back
Answer: Dont waste your time trying to contact them. I went to my bank and had all future billing refused AND I went to the State Attorney General and reported them.
Answer: Hello, Sarah - Thank you for getting in touch with us, our subscriptions are auto-renewing, we have a continuous billing feature that charges your account after the 14-day period and every month for the regular price afterward. However, if you are only interested in the 14-trial and wish to avoid any recurring charges simply cancel your subscription before beforehand. We hope that this helps clear things up for you, if you have any other questions or concerns, please let us know. Best regards, LiveCareer US
