Horrible scam
October 20, 2013

Horrible scam. Who would knowingly pay $34.95 per month for a resume service? My teenage son searched for "free resume" help and came upon this site. He thought he was agreeing to pay $2.95. He was charged several months for the unused subscription before it was cancelled. It cost him more for the "free resume" service than he earned at the summer job he got as a result.

Dear C R,

Thanks for your comments.

The free account is the ability to try out the Resume Builder to get a feel for how it works, and see what it has to offer before deciding to purchase. At this time we offer free text (. Txt) download of your resume, but if you want to print a resume to bring to an interview, email your resume/cover letter, or download a professional looking resume then you do need a subscription.

We are very clear that when you subscribe there is an auto-renewing feature for which you can cancel anytime and if you don’t cancel your subscription, we will bill you at the monthly rate of $34.95. We state this feature on your payment confirmation page and again give you this information when we send you your payment confirmation to the e-mail address that you use when you signed up. We give you multiple ways to cancel your subscription: By calling our customer service number by live chat, by e-mail or you can even go to our website, where there is a self-cancellation feature under the “My Account” section to avoid incurring this charge if service is no longer needed.

A monthly subscription to Resume Builder makes tailoring, customizing, and creating cover letters and resumes really easy and fast. Many of our customers continue to use our service for several months during their entire job search

If you have any questions regarding your subscription our customer service team is available 18 hours a day, 7 days a week from 6am- Midnight EST at toll free 1-888-816-0576 or through live chat on our site. If you prefer you can send us an email to: [email protected]

I just used this quickly to format a resume to fax. It seemed good enough for what I needed it for. I was aware of the $2.95 charge and it has already shown up on my online credit card transactions page. I cancelled this within an hour after signing up, and so I have cancelled **well within the 14-day "Resume Builder 14 day Full Access" period** So STAY TUNED! If I get any further charges from this service, it is indeed a ripoff/scam, and if I don't, then apparently it works OK if you follow all their instructions about cancelling.

DONT TRUST THIS WEBSITE, YOU WILL GET SCAMMED!
I had to write a CV for a job so i used this website to make it, i paid £1.95 just to download my CV onto my USB stick. Recently i checked my bank i had £60 and i took £25 out. I went to take out another £10 for college but it said i only had £9.97, so i rang my mum and explained the situation and she rang the bank and they said that this company has been taking my money! They willl keep doing this so i had to take all the money out of my account and then block my account and apply for a new one!
PLEASE DONT USE THIS WEBSITE, YOU WILL GET SCAMMED!

It is great to use for the 2 week subscription, but in the beginning I didn't even know there was a charge at all for using their services. I paid the 2.95 which wasn't a huge deal since I already made the damn resume- yep, you are sent into a great resume' building frenzy and go to print it and SUBSCRIBE NOW info comes up. I did see the cancel notification to not get the 34.95 charge and made myself a note. Well, as a single parent in school and working, it slipped my mind and I tried calling the number immediately when I saw a pending charge. The number wouldn't get through to anyone so thankfully they had a chat option. After I explained I used it for a homework assignment, do not need the services and I can not afford it in my situation, the rep typed out fabricated answers on the great benefits and then I got upset. Next they typed out, "Okay, I have cancelled your subscription and there will be no further charges", nothing about the ability to refund me. I was getting more upset and asked them to have someone call me immediately because I need the money for gas and groceries and now if I have this then I pay for something I am not using. They said they could only help via chat and a minute or two later finally said they refunded me. So eventually they solved my problem, but not before repeating 3 x's I can not afford it nor do I require their services and asking that someone call me. MISLEADING the first moment it lets you set up a resume' before giving you subscription information. I should have known better.

I cancelled my subscription with them almost immediately after signing up as they were not delivering what was promised. Then, to boot, they stole $34.95 out of my account and when I approached them about it they act like they have no idea why I've been charged and say," could it be your other account with us?" First of all, there is no other account and I want my money back NOW! I am unemployed you idiots, that was why I was going to use your service, to prepare and send out resumes to FIND A JOB!

Dear Colleen,

Many of our customers create more than one account with us, so we asked them for other email that might have been used or the last 4 digits of the card to search further for the account that was charged. We also asked our customers what is the method of cancellation used, because we give multiple ways to cancel, by phone, via chat, email [email protected] and online through Account Settings. If you have successfully cancelled your subscription we automatically send cancellation confirmation for your records.

I bought access to my resume. A cheap $2 or whaever. I must have cicked the get emails button or something and I'm getting all of these no reply emails about people trying to contact me. But there's no mail folder on the site. So how am I supposed to get back to them? I did a google search and found out about all these people getting ripped off. I noticed the automatic subscription in the terms when I bought my resume and knew I had to avoid that. So after noticing my bogus emails, I cancelled. Cancel quick! I haven't been charged for anything but my resume!

Dear Steph,

It sounds as though you are getting Job Alerts in your e-mail. These are notices to let you know of available positions in your area that you might be interested and/or qualified for. To respond to any of these notices, simply click onto the underlined job title and it will take you to the website of the company that has the open position.

If you wish to unsubscribe from these alerts, please scroll down to the bottom of the page of any of these e-mails, and you should see a notice to click which reads “to unsubscribe to these alerts.”

We hope this helps

I am currently on hold AGAIN to try and reach someone. Been on hold for almost an hour, they hope you will you just give up I guess. I canceled this subscription after a week well before the 14 day trail was up, but still was billed for $34.95. WHAT A RIPOFF. I am unemployed so they are preying on the people that can afford it the least. I am going to report them to the State of Georgia attorney general. These people are scum! Do NOT use this site or their sister site Resume Builder! I used Live Career and cancelled it the very same day. Yet the next day I had money taken from me FOUR times. I decided to do a different resume on Resume Builder and the same thing happened. I cancelled immediately and the next day was billed four more times this time over drafting my account! These sites are scamming innocent people who are looking for work. ALSO watch out because they apparently charge international fees and they blame that all on your bank.

No, you are a scammer. If you made things "very clear" then you would not have dozens of downvoted reviews now would you? If you wish to run an honest company, DO SO. If you continue to take advantage of people, sooner or later you will be shut down.

Hi John,

We make every effort to let our subscribers know that our service is an auto-renewing subscription. Much like other services you use that auto-renew on a certain date (from your cable TV service to a gym membership), if we don’t hear from you, we assume you wish to keep your subscription.

A large number of our subscribers utilize our service throughout their job search, understanding that a customized resume or cover letter for each position for which they apply, greatly enhances the probability of landing the perfect job.

We wish you the best of luck with your search.
