So sorry I have to return these boots due to fit, they look as though they would be the perfect riding boot. Perhaps the pair I received had a manufacturing defect, but the calf opening was just too small and I couldn't get the boot to close and lace properly to protect my ankle. Before you jump to conclusions about my oversized legs, I used a tape measure to double check my calf at 8" above the floor - 12.5" The boot needed an additional 1" to close properly around my calf. I liked everything about the boots, the padded tongue, the quality of the leather, the sole - I just wish it had a larger circumference for the calf so I could lace the boot closed properly. I ordered a size 10, my normal size. The foot fit properly, the boot would not lace closed around my 12.5" calf on either foot.

These boots are a very solid build. Somewhat heavier than I expected, and take a week or two of wear to get them flexible enough to be comfortable. Whatever socks you wear with them will have black leather dye on them when you take the boots off, so be don't wear your fancy socks if you have any. After a week or two of breaking in, they are more comfortable and appear to be extremely well made and tough. Which is really all I care about.

This is my 2nd pair. My first pair are still in great condition for riding, but i like to wear the boots with jeans/dresses as well. Having the scuff mark on my left toe takes away from the 'look'. Love the boots. Unfortunately, when i received the 1st pair - the manufacturer had glue all over the zippers. I returned them and in true LeatherUp fashion, i had the perfect replacements in a week. I love the boots and love LeatherUp!!

I ordered these because it is a good price for a good looking style of boot that is very hard to find. I was concerned about how stiff they were so I left the tags on and wore them at home a couple nights to make sure they were going to work out. The first night, there were some concerns, but by the second night, they had already started to break in. I wore them hiking today after only one full day of wear at work and they are great! I almost didn't order them because people were saying that the zipper needs to be a bit longer to allow you to slip the boot off more easily, and I really wanted a boot with a side zipper for this purpose. Happy to say that, while yes, you do have to loosen the laces a bit, you do not have to unlace them and it is not an issue for me at all. They do run a bit big, but I prefer that anyway so I ordered my usual size. Very comfy and stylish and a hard price to beat!

This is my third pair of these boots - I wear them almost exclusively during the winter, and very frequently during the summer, basically whenever sandals are not enough. These boots are fantastic for riding, and great for walking/hiking, too - a rare combination. A few reviews mentioned these boots being oversized; this is the OPPOSITE of my experience. I generally wear a 9, and felt I needed a 9 1/2 after my first pair in order to avoid my toes being severely cramped during the break-in period (to the point where I lost my middle-toenails, on my longest toes, on both feet), although they did wear and stretch enough to be comfortable after about a month. The larger size fit well, even after being worn. They are very water-resistant UP TO the depth of the zipper, especially after being mink-oiled. I do find the heel wears down quickly, but again, I do a LOT of hiking, and wear these boots exclusively. With the great cost of these boots, its been more economic just to replace the boot, although I understand these soles can also be replaced.
