The overall reputation of LawnStarter is marred by significant customer dissatisfaction, primarily stemming from unreliable service, communication failures, and inadequate customer support. Many reviews highlight issues such as missed appointments, unexpected charges, and poor handling of service-related damages. While some customers report positive experiences with specific lawn care professionals, these instances are overshadowed by the company's inconsistent service and lack of accountability. The recurring themes of frustration and disappointment suggest a pressing need for LawnStarter to improve its operational transparency and responsiveness to enhance customer trust and satisfaction.

The service is not with the cutters its with the main part, the office staff. Too many details to post. I have had to email them back and forth since a week ago and i dont have the strength to rewrite the problem again, but it has to do with them accusing me of making a complaint after i had not. Someone in that office filed a false claim, i replied and out of anger i gave them a 1 instead of a five. They charged me again and had the audacity to add a 10.00 tip of which i did not approve. We went back and forth all week. And they insist on telling me i asked them to come back when i was very happy with my cut. We had made specific arrangements for the dates to come out since we are income fixed and since our Sabbath is on Saturday we request they do not cut on those days. They changed our schedule anyway to fit their needs not ours. Anyway, they are history.
Terrible customer service. They wanted to move my very first service earlier in the week due to rain. I requested it to be moved later instead and specified that I wanted all future services to remain on Thursdays. No issues. My lawn was mowed the day later and it was fine. I expected someone to show up next Thursday and nothing. I call to find out that ALL of my services have been moved. Now my window is Friday to Monday and I'll likely be assessed a fee for long grass. The person I talked to said there's no waiver for that and that she couldn't contact my lawn crew directly. Seriously? The next person I spoke to was much more helpful, but still couldn't get my date adjusted. I'll plan to work directly with a local service after my 2nd and last service with LawnStarter.
Please read the fine print
If your grass grows over 6 inches before the next cutting they you will incur an upcharge.
My cost went from $40.00 per to an upcharge of $73.00, while I was on a bi-weekly cut.
So, if it rains 2 or 3 times you may likely have to pay that hidden upcharge and because you're on
Charge my account you might not even know until 2 or three cuts later.
Came out to my house and mowed half my front yard. Didnt edge and charged me 70 bucks. The two people that showed up to do the work looked like drug addicts. The service was so bad its unbelievable that they are in business.
Lawnstarter offers an extremely low pay to their contractors which means crappy and unreliable service. Who can make ends meet with $23 for a mow when you are putting in your own vehicle, gas, equipment and labor? Attracts low level unreliable contractors who will do a rush job or will place these jobs on the backburner, and rightfully so. Do yourself a favor and find a local company, you will end up paying the same but for much better service.
I went to the site just to poke around, it asked me for my name and phone number, thinking it would be used only if i chose to start service I complied. I was on the site for less than a full minute, within two minutes I received texts and phone calls from solicitors.
Stop killing yourself cutting your grass. LawnStarter is affordable and does professional work and it's so convenient. Everything can be managed right from the app on your phone.
We hired them to mow for us for a few weeks. The guys came and put holes in our fence. We filed a claim and they denied it because the guy who mowed said he didn't do it. I literally sent a picture showing the fence a month ago with no holes and today with holes, and they still denied it because "anyone could have been in our yard." Don't trust them. They are awful. They will damage your property and then not do anything about it.
We have used Lawn Starter for quite a long time. Service was neither great nor terrible. I would have given them 3 to 4 stars until recently.
We have rental property and the tenants have lived there for 8 years. They have never complained or made comments about lawn care. While they were at work, the lawn was mowed and they returned home to find back glass door broken from the outside. Nothing was taken and no one entered the house. Our rental manager contacted lawn starter. Whoever cut the grass said they didn't do it. Lawn Starter denied our claim and said they would have covered it if we had a video. So, we paid over $400 for the glas, dropped Lawn Starter and found an amazing small local family owned company that is cheaper and does a much better job. First time ever that a tenant has sent us an email praising the law care company. So, I would not recommend Lawn Starter.
I hired Lawnstarter to mow a very small lawn at a home I had for sale. Their price was pretty high but I needed to show the house and wanted the yard to look nice. The first mowing was okay but the lawn seemed a little tall. After the second mowing, the grass looked like it had never been mowed. I went out of town and viewed the lawn after the third mowing. The lawn was extremely tall like no mowing had ever taken place. I contacted LawnStarter and they insisted the lawn had been mowed and the job was fine. LawnStarter does not stand behind their work. I would never hire them again and I recommend that you don't, either. Don't waste your money.
I love lawn service. They are on time and professional. The office staff is great too. My lawn guys have done mulching, weed pulling, and keep grass looking great.
I would give this company less than 1 star if I could. Started out great. First 2 cuts with pics on the property. Then I'm not sure why, but my crew was replaced. 2nd crew rescheduled 2 times the first week (not due to rain). Got assigned another crew for the 2nd week, Rescheduled the 1st time the 2nd week due to rain, but instead of trying later in the week they just put down for the next week. So I called LawnStarter and asked if it could be done later in the week when the weather showed clear. They assigned me a 3rd crew who didn't show up or answer any of my messages. I called on Friday of the 2nd week to learn it wasn't going to be done. So here comes my 4th crew assigned for the 3rd week. Apparently they had vehicle issues both Monday and Tuesday? I called on Tuesday since it was supposed to rain for the next 8 days straight and that would make 3 weeks since my lawn had been mowed. My 4th crew apologized Wednesday night and let me know they would be out there Thursday rain or shine. So what does LawnStarter do? They assign me another crew! No responses on the posts for 6 hours when I asked if they would be out Thursday. Then I get a response on Friday that I've been rescheduled to Monday. I called Customer Service to cancel, and they ask me why? I believe the facts speak for themselves. If the city gets called because the lawn hasn't been mowed I will send the bill to them. They are a middle man that uses several crews with no guarantees that any of them will actually show up. My advice, cut out the middle man and find a good, reputable company.
I would recommend you ask for SHAIN to mow your lawn. He is really good even when the grass is was high. He also knock on the door to let me that he was there and was super nice. IF you want good work done on your lawn go with C&J Lawn Care.
Multiple reschedules and cancellations. It's been about a month and we've had one completed bi-weekly mowing and this was after two reschedules and the original crew bailing. The second scheduled mow was the same thing, still no one has come out so I've decided to cancel. But wait, they've rescheduled me yet again... To mow the lawn I just mowed myself, nice to send the message at midnight, less than 48 hours before the reschedule so you can't actually cancel. Overall a completely unreliable service.
The first lawn service provider showed up and marked the lawn completed but never mowed. After contacting LawnStarters through both calls and emails I was told it would be rescheduled. The next day I was schedule with the same provider that showed up and never mowed. When I messaged to ask why, the service was suddenly cancelled. Back and forth emails and calls to get a refund and decided to cancel the service completely. I was done with this app for lawn service and was told everything was cancelled even though they had a 3 mow limit. Today after cancelling someone showed up and mowed half the lawn, left and again I was billed for the full service. More calls and emails this evening to again cancel. I was told no one will be showing up from now on but that was what I was told last week so we will see. They did refund my money. This service is a good idea but the follow through on the actual service quality and reliability as well as billing is terrible and real headache. Don't waste your time with this Lawn Service App.
I would recommend you ask for Daniel to mow your lawn. He mows a different direction every time and the grass and trim look awesome! LawnStarter also took care of the crabgrass and weeds and bare spots.
It is a very helpful app for me and my home. We are elderly and cannot mow ourselves anymore. They always come right when is said and do an honest days work
Well, I can explain everything but it would take to much time.
Very short I hire them to May 14 they told me they would be at my house in two days well until the day of today they didn't appear. They change I didn't cancel the service until the 19 I think BUT still getting their messages changing the appointment.
I had to Mob the lawn myself in the evening on Saturday 18 because I need my house ready for a party. This company is UNRELIABLE I can post the messages they send me several with excuses and more excuses I need to find out if they charge me for NOTING. SO mad this is the third review I write in 21 years
I am writing this as I gaze out across my lawn that now looks like an abandoned property while waiting for the inevitable HOA fine thanks to LawnStarter's inability to follow through.
First off -- LawnStarter NOT an actual lawn service crew. It is a middle man. You request a service and put all faith in them to properly assign and schedule a crew. You are given a LARGE window during which time your service may (or may not!) occur.
My lawn treatment for weeds had a 17 DAY window. I waited patiently through the window after 17 days of waiting. I also had a mow service scheduled that was completely skipped without asking me first. Excellent.
I was told the weed crew was discontinued from their system, and they proceeded to reschedule me for another massive "window" that was THREE weeks away!
I call them again, and this time am told it's due to "weather" that my service was rescheduled. (for 17 full days the weather was bad? No.)
I finally get them to reschedule a crew for the following week, and the crew AGAIN does not show up. (Fun fact: This is still the original crew they first claimed was "dropped" from their system).
So, I call that crew directly and am told I was bumped AGAIN because they could not find my address. (Fun Fact 2: I had contacted LawnStarter to tell them my address was incorrect in their system and was told they corrected it. I was also told this via email on this same day but clearly, they did not pass on the correct address to the crew).
After contacting them AGAIN I am told that my address WAS corrected, but now the price of the lawn treatment service is now almost 50% HIGHER due to the previous price quote being based on the wrong area. So for all this trouble, I now get to pay them more $$ on top of the fine I will probably be receiving.
Turns out the other crew that had been mowing my lawn actually WAS dropped from their system, so I can't even get basic mow services for another week. I finally did what I should have done a week ago and CANCELLED everything.
And that is the tale of how my lawn returned to its raw texas hill country wilderness roots. Thanks LawnStarter.
LawnStarted will continously push back weekly and bi-weekly lawn mowings then charge an extra fee for "long grass". I tried calling customer service to argue the fee since their team is pushing back the mowings but I can't get a hold of a representative.
Answer: This company is a scam, they get your credit card and charge for "extra services you did not request.
Answer: I have spent nearly $200 and my yard still looks like trash. Find someone else to do your yard. These people charge for work they never complete!
Answer: LawnStarter.com does not employ lawn guys. They use contractors that might be in the area and willing to do the work. Neither are responsible for property damages like sprinklers, shattered windows, etc.
