Kayak Reviews Summary

The company's reputation is mixed, with customers appreciating its competitive pricing and user-friendly interface for comparing travel options. Many users find it a valuable tool for securing better flight deals compared to competitors. However, significant concerns arise regarding customer service, particularly in handling booking issues and refunds, leading to frustration and dissatisfaction. Complaints about misleading pricing, slow response times, and lack of accountability when partnering with third-party services are prevalent. Overall, while the platform is favored for its search capabilities, its customer support and reliability require substantial improvement to enhance user trust.

I typically use Kayak to compare airline fares but thought I would try using the site to book a flight. What a mistake! If you have to make any changes with your flight you have to wait on hold for long periods of time and call back multiple times. It is a total pain. I will continue to use Kayak to compare airline fares but NEVER use Kayak again to book a flight.

I booked a trip on Frontier from San Diego to St. Louis through Kayak. This was the cheapest flight available which I assumed was due to a change of planes in Denver. However, after receiving my confirmation i discovered I did not have a seat assignment and needed to call Frontier directly. I called immediately and was told I could only get a seat assignment at the airport because of the discounted ticket. If I wanted a seat assignment early, I would need to pay $40 per leg.
On the day of the flight we arrived at the airport with plenty of time. The only seats available were middle seats for all 4 legs of our trip.
I don't know if this seat selection policy is standard for all Kayak bookings or just Frontier but the $100 saved up front was not worth it considering also the time spent in layovers.

Nightmare!
December 12, 2013

Nightmare! This was my first time booking airfare with kayak. I will never use them again. After I booked my flight I received an email from globebusters with my reservation information but no confirmation. I called globebusters requesting my confirmation. I was told it would take awhile. After trying for several hours to get my confimation I was told that my credit card had been declined and the new fare would be an additional $150. I informed the sale rep that I had checked my account before booking and the funds were there. He put me on hold and when he came back the he informed me the fare had gone up $300. I told him I would book somewhere else because this did not sound right. He put me on hold again and when he came back rhe increase was back down to $150. I again stated I would book somewhere else. Was put on hold again and upon his return he stated he would try sending my card in again at the original price. The card went through but still no conformation. I called again and was told my confirmation would be issued in ten minutes. One hour later still no confirmation. I called back and the same sales rep told me that I told him I didn't have the money earlier to pay the $150.00 increase and I would have to pay. I can't remember everything I said but he gave me a five digit number and I was able to go to the airlines website directly to get my confirmation.

I don't recommend using only kayak for hotel booking. They don't show all possible deals, only some available part. It's 50/50; sometimes you can get good booking deal and sometimes there are better, and kayak doesn't show that

Absolutely horrendous - booked a ticket described as business class on Kayak. When i got the final ticket details (after paying) it described ticket as economy. Complained to kayak and Kayak demanded proof. Fortunately i had the screen shots. Once Kayak got the screen shots, they said they would look into it, but finally came back and said there was nothing they could do and that i should read their small print! Would never use Kayak again. AVOID

I was unable to find their phone number to inquire about my extensive and complicated travel plans including a lot of car rentals. Isn't this DUMB to hide your phone number? Will never consider Kayak.

Be warned
April 22, 2013

Be warned. Do not buy ticket from Kayak. I bought a ticket 4/17/2013 and they sent me the ticket confirmation number. 5 days later, I looked at my credit card bill and noticed a credit. I called Kayak/Travelocity and was told my ticket was cancelled. I did not get any cancellation email or call. They said my credit card could not be verified because my phone number was not on it. I rebooked, and same issue. Please be warned. Worst customer service ever.

Booked, AND PAID for two nights at the Aria in Las Vegas for this Easter weekend. Arrived at the desk. They had no record of my reservation. I didn't have the printed confirmation... my fault. But why didn't Kayak process the booking? They hit my credit card... great... but they couldn't book the reservation. I'm out two nights, a ruined weekend. Am steamed. Will never use Kayak.com again.

I wish I have read reviews on this site before booing with kayak.com. The service was horrible. I experienced the same problems as other people here.

I booked a couple of international flights and received promptly confirmation. However, the next day, I receive a couple of emails sent at the exact same time, one saying my payment didn't go through and I need to contact them, the other saying my bookings were canceled because they couldn't contact me to verify the payment info. What a surprise! I never receive any phone call from them and the email informing about the payment problem and the email canceling my bookings were sent at the same time, what is the time for me to call back?

I called their phone number and had to wait 15 mins to talk with an Indian guy that i could barely understand his accent. After giving my trip ID, he put me on hold for 15 mins and the line was cut off. I called again, talked with another Indian and was transferred to Payment dept and again the line was cut off. I called back the third time and asked not to transfer me but the guys I talked with ignored my request and hang up the phone. I couldn't believe that kind of customer service exists in the hospitality or any industry. Shame on you kayak.com. I never do business with you again.

I booked my international flight with them and wish I did not. They are partnered with travelocity. I received a double email from kayak saying my flight on travelocity was being processed with the same ID#. Then approximately an hour and half later I receive an email from travelocity stating that the reservation could not be processed with the same ID number. I then receive an email the next day in the morning from kayak with a different travelocity ID# saying my flight booking on travelocity has succeed. I then receive an email the next day from travelocity through kayak that they are unable to ticket my reservation with the original travelocity ID#. I call customer service and talk to someone from India. He tells me that I booked twice which is not true. He then asks me if I want to cancel the original travelocity ticket#. I said I did not book the reservation twice. There is a glitch in your system and I do not need a duplicate reservation at the same time. I do not know where this 2nd travelocity ID# came from and it is worrisome that I will be double billed or my reservation is incorrect.

I booked 4 international flight tickets, and had to book the 5th through my work. I received an email that I would be notified in 2 hours (!). I called, talked to a person in India, and was told it would go through.

4 hours later- no email, no confirmation- called (India again)- was told that my card was declined the first time (I never got notified of it)- and that I gave a new one (I did not). So I should keep on waiting... four more hours. I will have to cancel the other ticket, and began searching again. By now all the tickets are more expensive and I am facing hours of trying to cancel the one ticket paid by work that did go through- WILL STAY AWAY FROM NOW!

They don't not stand by their word. I book a room, went to check in and room was never booked and hotel was full. Called kayak they verified said they give me a full refund in 5-7 days and I would need to book a new room at a new hotel almost double the cost, I had to drive home at 12:30 am almost 2 1/2 hrs away cuz I was out of money and they did not care. Bottom line this company is horrible!

I prepaid for a 4 star hotel through Kayak only to find out when I showed up at the hotel that Kayak never confirmed my reservation and I had nowhere to stay! You can imagine the shock I was in and it was a busy convention week so I did not have many options. I ended up scrambling into a miserable other hotel that was half the price of what I paid for and they would not refund the difference of what I prepaid to Kayak. A terrible and unforgettable experience and Kayak has done nothing to make it right.

I booked a hotel room from kayak.com, the pictures did NOT reflect what the hotel looked like in real life.

I cancelled my reservation as soon as i saw the rooms.

I had booked my room on saturday and was unable to contact a person, as opposed to an automated machine, until today (monday).

The first customer service rep i talked to said he wasn't able to refund my money. I called the hotel to confirm the information, then called customer service back.

The next rep i spoke with was extremely helpful, he called the hotel to verify the information i gave him and proceeded to refund my money. I was informed that processing of my refund may take up to 7 days. However, that is not my main concern.

Aside from having to make multiple phone calls, the process went well over all. It should be noted that the wait time was next to nothing when trying to get a hold of a rep during normal business hours. I'm glad I got my money back and I will be sure review the hotel's i find on Kayak next time.

I made hotel reservation through kayak in Dec 2012 for dec 27 to dec 30. I contacted kayak on dec 27 to cancel the reservation. Customer representative said they are unable to contact hotel management. I called 18-20 times and sent out email to customer service. Still they couldnt contact hotel reservation team. I was able to contact hotel accountant through number published on hotel site.
I dont understand why customer representatives were not able to contac.
Its been 2 months and i havent received refund yet.

I would've given them 0 stars if I could
The worst experience EVER. I don't think anybody should be doing business with KAYAK, period. I am a frequent flyer, I used Kayak on most of my international trips. They used to be amazing and their prices were decent. Something ha penned lately (I guess they have merged with travelocity) and their service when down hill. I booked a flight, paid for it and only to find out, a day later, that they have cancelled it. I called their number (which by the way was hard to find since they don't publish it on their website) and spoke to more then ten people and got the same answer, sorry we can't help you. Tried to go back to their website and rebook my flight again and what a nightmare. I chose a booking, I fill out all the information only to get an error saying that the flight is no longer available. I tried more than 30 different flights and was getting the same error. (the only reason I went back to their site was because I had already paid for my first flight and didn't want to lose my money) What a shame. I work in the hospitality industry and will have a good word about them.

From the business

Kayak is a large price comparison search engine for travel. It has prices for plane tickets, hotels, car rentals, and vacation packages. Kayak doesn't sell any of these services directly, but instead directs you to another site where you can make a purchase.
