Kaiser Permanente Reviews Summary

The overall reputation of the company is significantly marred by consistent customer dissatisfaction regarding healthcare services. Many reviews highlight severe delays in accessing care, inadequate communication, and a perceived lack of genuine concern from healthcare providers, leading to feelings of neglect among patients. While some customers have had positive experiences with specific doctors and care teams, these instances are overshadowed by widespread complaints about systemic issues, including bureaucratic inefficiencies and poor management of patient needs. The general sentiment indicates a pressing need for improvement in service quality and patient-centered care practices.

Over billing of co-pays
October 4, 2021

I enrolled in Kaiser Medicare Advantage in Feb 2020. I was told to come for a baseline physical with $0 copay. After the physical, I was billed for $10 copay. After my first visit to the Optometrist which EOC says has a $10 copay, which I paid, I was billed for an additional $30. Again I had a preventative colonoscopy which EOC says has $0 copay but I was billed for $40 after the procedure. When I called to dispute the charge, the member service rep threatened to hang up on me and refused to transfer me to supervisor. She offered to waive to copay as a one-time courtesy and not because they were wrong. Right now I am even scared to go for services because of the hassle of dealing with the overbilling. Check your bills from KP so you are not ripped off. I am done with them! GA, Member, Mid Atlantic States Medicare Advantage

Listen Americans, if you think this money making enterprise wants to help you, you are totally wrong. This is basically, a money making machine: They just support the pharmaceutical money making machine. MY sister was killed by Kaiser permanente: They knew that the chemotherapy was not going to save her but they did not care even though I complained: Chemotherapy is a killing therapy but makes billions of dollars. Also, in my case, they did not want to offer me a doctor that I needed: They just put me a "young", supposed a doctor, VERY SICK, maybe coming from Pakistan or some of these countries abused by the system, and Kaiser DID NOT offer me any possible of the many therapies: This is the truth. KAISER PERMANENTE is a criminal money making machine.

Let down
September 23, 2021

I went to Kaiser with caution due to past experience. At first my primary care seemed empathetic. But once I started to need help with specific issues he treated me as a nuisance. Worse we're the specialists. They are fine as long as your problem is easy to solve. As time went on and I had health issues that didn't have obvious solutions, they just gave up. Now recently I had severe chest pain, spike in blood pressure and rapid heart rate. I was dizzy and confused. I couldn't make it to the hospital but went to my primary care the next day. There was no concern, no sense of urgency and because I have dealt with anxiety that became the topic of discussion. This was definitely not anxiety. And this is why I didn't bother with going to the ER. The doctors get such tunnel vision and can't think outside the box. They sap a label and move on.
My wife had a bad experience as well. Before we were patients of UC Davis. My husband had a biopsy done and it was found he had skin cancer. Unfortunately we had to transfer to Kaiser before it could be cut out. Now at Kaiser his doctors claim it doesn't look bad from the outside. I asked them if cancer just disappears and they blew me off. Not only that, when we asked for a second opinion, we were told we couldn't get one. We pushed so finally his dermatologist called back feigning not to understand the problem. They basically blocked out ability to get my husband help from someone else. If I was a conspiracy theorist if believe this is a plan to keep from spending money. I know this review isn't succinct but I am very stressed, filled with fear for my husband and myself. We are going to switch back to our old network but can't until January. Bottom line is it's a cattle mill. And every time I see some commercial where they talk about caring and"let's thrive" I want to throw up. It's a nightmare.

Ovarian Cancer
September 13, 2021

I have been treated like a criminal on more than one occasion by Kaiser staff while I'm sick with cancer. I cannot wait to get some other healthcare provider. If it were one bad apple, I could forgive it, but it's a pattern. They are understaffed and the staff they do have are terrible. Their member services do nothing when you complain and they have so many lawyers, it does not matter if there is gross negligence they will support the lying doctors at the patient's loss. If I could give negative stars, I would.

Rushed, ignored.
September 10, 2021

Every expirence ive had using them, was like i was a number, they offer only basic preventative maintenance at best. They tend to ignore your concerns then rush you out the door with minimal help. Their in patient network is a mess they will send you further away from your home instead of local for a consult or help. Only to find out you could have seen someone local. I have an on going medical condition that they havent been able to diagnose correctly in the last 4 years. An 1000$s of dollars in bills for theses we dont know appointments. Had testing done and not informed of the cost until after the fact leading to even more money owed. But no answers.

Is not what it used to be
September 10, 2021

61 year old male. I have been with Kaiser since a child. Currently have my entire family with them and I am appalled at the length of time to see your primary, trying to make an appointment, and hearing back from anyone. Their phone system is one giant loop system. This is not the Kaiser I grew up with. I am amazed the ratings from so called government sources they are 10 out of 10. Sounds like the fox watching the hen house to me. Please dont be fooled try another medical provider.

Kaiser is thee worst hospital iv ever had the misfortune of being treated by. They could care less. My roommate called 911 a week ago for chest pain and breathing difficulty, and an ambulance came and picked her up. Kaiser sat her in a waiting room for 6 hours. Not once checked up on her. Then told her she had to leave. Years ago, my father had stave 4 cancer. We took him to the er. He had a 104 degree fever. Soaking wet from sweat, hallucinating. They took almost 3 hours to give him something to bring his temperature down well that time he needs to take his pain meds and they've refused to give him his pain meds to the point where he was screaming in pain loud enough to be heard through a closed door. When I heard this I told his doctor I'm going to go home and get his pain meds and bring them here so he can take some. The doctors informed me that if I did that I would be charged with a felony. I look the doctor did the eye and said go for it I have not going to hear my father's scream and Agony because you're too big of a b**** to uphold your Hippocratic Oath. Kaiser is going to burn, I'll bring the marshmallows.

Employee Angelique called my cell and said "can you answer a question, I just need to speak with someone who can answer a question. I asked who she wanted to speak with and regarding what. All she said was can you answer a question. I thought it was a joke so o hung up. She called again and very rudely said " you don't even know how to answer correctly, you can't even answer, why did you hang up!" I once again askers who she wanted to speak with and and now she finally said someone from HR and I told her this was no company or HR, this was my personal cell number. She did not even apologize, all she said was" you see, why didn't you tell me that since the beginning!" I told her I had no reason to answer her questions when she never answered mine and she was calling my number. I asked who she wanted to speak with the first time and all she said was "can you answer a question". I guess she was mad because she hung up on me. She was the rudest person ever, and she even dared to call me rude. I don't even have any business with Kaiser, they should teach they're employees how to properly make a call an customer service skills. Angelique had no clue of what customer service means

Murder in the 1st
August 17, 2021

They didn't care I had POA over my husbands health and in our living trust I was treated like crap. Like dirt. They didn't care that our sons were on the do not call list, they didn't care my husband's medical records read FULL CODE. They sent him to our sons house, withheld food and rx and let him died. I didn't see him for a month before he died. He didn; t pass away they murdered him. They dont care. The nurse or whatever the monster was pulled the phone away from him and wouldn't allow me to speak with him as he was yelling at me when I tried to find out if this was what he wanted. He screamed over and over again I AM SO CONFUSED I AM SOOOOOOOOO CONFUSED. I LOVE YOU SOOOOOOOOOOOOO MUCH. Something took the phone from him and got on accusing me of trying to change his mind.No Kaiser, the nutjobs at Kaiser changed his mind, ask our attorney who they didn't think was real... He wanted me to decide I was his wife of 58 yrs and his caregiver for 22.

Southern California Kaiser physicians treat the elder patients like they do not matter. It appears the the physicians that they hire are from the bottom of the barrel. They must be the ones that just squeak by at graduation.

Great service
July 22, 2021

Tundre and Paula in the lab went above and beyond the call of duty. My lab oder expired when I went in last night. They called the doctor, it was 730pm, to get the order back in the system. Took a half an hour but the results were I could take my test. Love them both. It was my mistake but they fixed it. And happily.

I waited 2 WEEKS for a damn call to ask me a couple questions about my past history. I told them I needed birth control and moles checked since my mother died of cancer a year ago. They said they will call me back. I didn't hear anything from them. I call on the 9th of July to see what's going on they told me they don't have a schedule out for JULY TO JANUARY. It's over a week into July and THERES NO SCHEDULE. I've been stuck with a birth control inside of me which I'm scared to take out before knowing when I will get another one. The customer service rep insisted there is NOTHING she can do for me. Honestly never had such horrible service in my life. Have no idea why I'm even paying for insurance. I had Aetna (which I NEVER PAID A COPAY) and before that I had blue cross, blue shield. Don't do it to yourself. Go with ANYONE ELSE BUT KP

I purchased the Kaiser Gold Health Plan, which is the most expensive, hoping to get good access to care and customer service. The Doctors and Nurses are great, but Kaiser Health Plan has absolutely abysmal customer service. Contacting member services is intentionally convoluted by a complex phone tree with an automated voice system that often hangs up after leaving customers on hold for hours. It is a miserable customer experience that wastes countless hours for patients. Moreover, Kaiser consistently exploits designed loopholes in coverage to prevent from paying bills they rightfully owe. Finally, they demand customers provide their social security number just to speak to a customer service representative. This is a serious, reckless, and gross security breach and a violation of customer privacy. They could validate customer information in many ways - which would be compliant with all regulations, for example birth date. Instead, they exploit customers and their data to their advantage without regard for their customers security or general interests. It is a shame the government continues to pour billions in profit into this company for virtually no value in return, there needs to be competition in the healthcare marketplace so insurance companies can't treat their customers without respect.

I have the skin problems, itchy and joint pain on my wrists and knees. During five months, other regular paycheck workers or doctors only made referrals. But within one week, Dr. Niufar with his thorough treatment and duty of care of the excellent doctor who cleared all of the problems with kenalog injection and Prednisone medication. I hope that Kaiser keeps hiring miracle doctors like him who cam provide the healthy living to the patient who trusted the health system like Kaiser. Thanks for the treatment.

My husband contracted covid in Jan 2021, emailed his primary hoping to get at least meds to aid him as he has a-fib heart condition. Was not looking for a 2 hour turnaround, but his doctor, Dr. Paul, never ever contacted him. Three days later with myself and daughter advocating for him as he was too sick we got another dr. at Kaiser to prescribe meds. I am not with Kaiser and I got help as I contracted covid within 24 hours. He went to the ER at one point, but I believe the worst was over and he was offered no treatment. However, they told him he had diabetes and had had it since June when his blood sugar was over 300 and at the ER was 330. His primary missed this as well and failed to tell him he was diabetic form June to Jan. Needless to say we have switched primary care physicians. Kaiser is has slipped horribly since he first selected that plan and I believe they absolutely no longer deserve their 5 star Medicare rating. To be fair the doctor he finally got help from (late in the game) really helped him via telecon and scrips, now couldn't his primary Dr. Paul do right by him absolutely no explanation no contact really poor on his part. Filed a non-Medicare grievance and was told simply oh well he finally got help and will let the team know about his experience - no action taken. Should have filed a Medicare grievance but didn't and didn't know he was not given any diabetic help when he first became a diabetic and as a result now has diabetic retinopathy, which may have been avoided if he was given care and meds sooner. Kaiser in our opinion caused him harm, not help.

Kaiser makes many things easy, but it has become either greedy, or unable to hire enough health practitioners to provide timely appointments. Two months is too long to wait. I also had a very weird issue where I booked an appt, but Kaiser called to cancel 2 days prior, due to COVID. Their medical software, or a tech, took my suggested reason for that appointment, and inserted a record with that diagnosis, as if I'd been seen. They even extended the issue to both eyes. I've never seen this Dr in my life. They repeatedly billed me, I told them it never occurred, the doctor said she'd fix it, but billing refused to remove the fake record and sent the bill to collection. After 6 months of my emails, they modified some records to extend the falsehood, making the cancelation phone call a 'telemedicine' call, which it was not. So they stick to a lie rather than admit a mistake, which seems like an unhealthy business culture to me.

If you want to die, come on down to Kaiser where they are always short staffed and incompetent individuals that work here. If the Er is full start moving people into rooms upstairs. My husband had cone in for stomach pains and nausea. We checked in at 10:30 pm they ran all kinds of tests won't let family in the waiting rooms most likely because we would light a fire under there butts and it's 1:28am and still nothing no results no okay let's see if this could be going on nothing. This hospital should close its doors cause it's awful the worst. I hope corporate does read this. I would love to tell them how awful the service is and it's not the first tine either. Come November when my husband has to change his insurance plan thru work Kaiser can kiss this family good bye.
