Kaiser Permanente Reviews Summary

The overall reputation of the company is significantly marred by consistent customer dissatisfaction regarding healthcare services. Many reviews highlight severe delays in accessing care, inadequate communication, and a perceived lack of genuine concern from healthcare providers, leading to feelings of neglect among patients. While some customers have had positive experiences with specific doctors and care teams, these instances are overshadowed by widespread complaints about systemic issues, including bureaucratic inefficiencies and poor management of patient needs. The general sentiment indicates a pressing need for improvement in service quality and patient-centered care practices.

Unbelievably inadequate, substandard care. Why do they get away with it? Because you can't sue. But, report to CMS, JAHCO and board of medicine. The first two will trigger a investigation, the third will show up on the physician's record.

94 year old Pt discharged after hypotension episodes. No physical therapy ordered. Patient fell down when trying to get in his home. Suffered a compound fracture of elbow with bone sticking out. Got antibiotics by mouth and 3 STAPLES in his elbow. Standard of care is a physical therapy evaluation prior to discharge (1st admission) and IV antibiotics for a compound fracture.

Substandard care. Pompous and arrogant emergency room physician in Walnut Creek, CA who chose staples over sutures for a 94 year old man.

I have had Kaiser since I was a child 1980's. It was really good back then. However, it has become a Monopoly and an inner city clinic. The quality of care has really gone downhill. It's a shame that Kaiser is the only HMO out there that is a all in one. That's what is desirable for a lot of older folks because they don't have to go all over to get bloodwork, x-rays etc. for what I pay in premiums-I should be able to go to a better facility with better qualified doctors and nurses. It's almost like I'm in A bad socialism healthcare system that I already pay for. So basically I'm paying for crap healthcare. Wish that Kaiser had other competitors that was in all in one facility.

Complete Nightmare
March 13, 2022

When I went to pay my first bill, they kept not finding my account and forwarding me to different people's voicemail box. I ended up taking the entire day off work to deal with this, we are taking 5+ hours on the phone until I finally reached someone who could process my payment.

Today I went to pay online and couldn't submit a payment because my email wasn't verified. When I clicked the link in my email it took me to a 404 error... meaning there is no way for me to pay online and I have to keep calling these clowns every single month.

This company is absurdly inept.

Felt like a cost, not a human being
March 10, 2022

My Primary Care doctor is great. However, my experiences with Specialty providers have not been good since 2008. I feel like one condition is blamed for everything. I get this cursory "exam" them hussled out. Today's experience was no different. My questions didn't get answered. The doctor kept saying the same thing but in a different way. I left feeling so discouraged. I understand that all business have to be careful about cost, especially during these times. But, I left there feeling like I am just a cost them, not a human being. I wouldn't wish this on anyone.

Pharmacy
March 2, 2022

So I've been dealing with the debacle of Kaiser for many years now. The enormous bureaucracy of a multi billion dollar business it seems at every turn to make things way more difficult and they have to be came to ahead for me today. For 13 years I've taken a prescription and how she sleep at night that prevents me from sleepwalking. 13 years ago I almost died sleepwalking in an injury. The same medication that I've been taking for 13 years was sent over by my doctor to be refilled as a prescription. I drove to the Kaiser pharmacy. The supposed manager came up and said that I was too early to pick up this particular prescription. Now for the first 13 years of taking this prescription there was no too early. It's a very small dose of a substance that it's not even deadly. Now I don't have the prescription that helps me sleep at night and I've run out of the pills. If you ever wonder if just refilling your prescription at Walgreens or CVS with any other provider other than Kaiser would be a good idea and then perhaps the answersYes. Absolute terrible bureaucracy it doesn't care about healing helping people that only cares about covering it's On liability. What a joke. Don't ever go to the Kaiser Vallejo 24 hour pharmacy. Go anywhere else.

Kaiser has worst customer service in terms of appointment and follow up. The average wait time is around 2-3 months to get the appointment with specialists. If you don't need to see any specialists then it might be a good choice for you.

I am a first time Kaiser member and all I needed help was to get a Member Card so I know my Member ID, which I need to make appointments, I called 4 different numbers that they have online and my first call was horrible, the guy literally hung up on me, the second time was answered but they redirected me to another number that did not work so it hung up on me again, the third time, a lady answered and just hung up on me, fourth time, yes you guessed it right, hung up on me again, so as you can see, Kaiser is the worst hospital to ever be a member in, I'm hoping Kaiser will fix these issues since they are a big company, they get millions of money from Tax payers and has the worst service ever!

Poor Service
February 7, 2022

This is what you get with a Medicare 5-star rating at Kaiser California. 11 months ago, I explain to my doctor that when if stand to long or walk after 2 to 4 blocks, I get intense pain around my mid extremities. The doctor recommend acupuncture. After 6 sessions I was still having issues and I let him know. After 4 months I am still having the same problems. He tells me he does not know what is going on. Two months after this I have this same conversation with another doctor, stating that if I stand or walk after 2 to 4 blocks, I get intense pain around my mid extremities. She recommends that I get another opinion. About two months later I have an appointment with a new doctor. I explain to him that if I stand to long or walk after 2 to 4 blocks, I get intense pain around my mid extremities. He orders a scan. On my next visit he tells me that he does not see anything wrong. Two months later I once again have this same conversation with my partner. She tells me NOT KAISER that it sounds like a hernia. Two days later I have another appointment with a Kaiser doctor, and she confirmed that I do have a hernia. Why did it take 11 months and three Kaiser doctors to find this out? Now, I get a referral to see a surgeon. She wants to perform outpatient surgery. The only catch is you must drive 30 minutes to a place that is in the middle of nowhere, when I have 3 maybe 4 different place that are only 5 to 10 minutes away. If you like this type of treatment or lack of treatment, then Kaiser California is your answer.

Street worker`s
February 5, 2022

With kaiser permanente and the protection from the union. They hire worker`s for the streets. Give them a title and wala. You think your dealing with someone that actually went to school and has a license. I have found this with nurses and pharmacist. Always ask for a license number and check it.

Kaiser sucks! They deserve a -10 star rating for their Covid response. I am vaccinated & boosted, none through Kaiser. Ridiculous wait times (weeks). I'm now sick & can't buy a Covid test. I called & was told I can only schedule it online. I just tried online & there is an eleven (yes, 11 days!) day wait for a test plus 2-3 days to get a result. This is what we pay BIG $$ to Kaiser for, what a joke! Kaiser would have to improve 10,000% to deserve a 1 star rating!

I have had Kaiser for years, and I have had three very negative experiences so far.

First, their phone lines have been consistently terrible. This week, I tried to book a Covid test, and ended up spending literally hours on hold. Usually when I get through to someone, they just send me to another phone number. This is the same kind of thing I expect from ATT, or McDonalds, or any other big, heartless corporation. But I didn't expect it from a healthcare provider. I was wrong.

Second, I had a therapist a Kaiser who was actually detrimental to my mental health. They refused to give me necessary documentation for my university, because they wanted me to quit marijuana. I never even said that my marijuana use was a problem, and it turned out that this therapist had absolutely no right to prevent me from obtaining my own documentation. I promptly fired them, and I am happy I did.

Third, I dropped a metal stool on my toe last year, leading to a fracture. When I went to Kaiser's ER, they put me in a wheelchair with my toe uncovered, bleeding onto the floor. They then proceeded to wheel me around the hospital, dripping blood all over the floors.

I have spent thousands of dollars for these terrible services, which would have been both higher quality, and free, in my native UK. Why even pretend that there is a competitive marketplace in healthcare when big heartless corporations like Kaiser run the whole show?

I was about 13 weeks pregnant at the time and was finally being seen for my first prenatal appointment after scheduling it a month in advanced. I received my first ultrasound and was told I must be mistaken about being pregnant because my doctor saw my uterus was empty. She went on a rant about how common miscarriages are and how that's most likely what's happened blah blah blah. She sent me to radiology to do an official scan and within seconds the technician could see a baby with great heart beat and fetal movement measuring exactly 13 weeks and 5 days. After collecting myself after what felt like an emotional rollercoaster I left and immediately felt like I should change where I receive my healthcare! Why in the world would you confirm a miscarriage or insinuate your patient is delusional about being pregnant with zero proof?! I am still very upset about this!

I have no idea what has happened to Kaiser Permanente, but they have seriously gone downhill since I was last with them 2000-2010. I have had a Neurologist overseeing part of my care since the 1990s. I rejoined 2021 and was actually told by two Kaiser Primary Care Practitioners I could 'not' see a Neurologist and the Rx from my Sharp Neurological Surgeon - of exemplary standing - was bad - and they would not refill it - and that I need vitamin supplements and acupuncture instead. Seriously?

Friends. I'm game for any preventative care, but as a life long Neurological patient... ya. No. This is not a solution. It is ignorance at the Primary Care levels.

I have been in an 8 month fight - EiGHT months, friends - a fight to receive something close to appropriate care. It has not happened yet. So I am writing to hopefully help others from making the same mistake I did (foolishly switching to Kaiser). Don't do it.

I am removing both myself and daughter from Kaiser Permanente insurance at Open Enrollment. There is no hope for this company on their current path, and it is very sad. I hope will take my review seriously, and choose another health insurance provider.

To your continued health and success, friends.

I have never experienced such terrible healthcare with Kaiser. They are so invested in their "process", they completely lose sight of the individual. I have to fight tooth and nail every time I have a concern and would like to see a doctor. They do not return calls, never have any available appointments and most every representative I have talked to could care less about my concerns. The entire process is so convoluted you might as well "google" your own medical treatment because if it's an issue you will be lucky to see any one within a month. I will gladly pay much more to get out of this healthcare system that treats everyone like a number and not a human being. Do yourself a favor and save the headache of dealing with Kaiser.

Terrible Company
October 19, 2021

Kaiser is a terrible company. Purchasing insurance through Kaiser exposes patients to massive risk that they won't be able to receive any care. Despite being a paying customer and paying all my bills on time, Kaiser forces customers to wait on hold for hours to speak to someone. This is despite the fact that they could easily create a call back mechanism or cut their executive's seven figure salaries to hire more customer service reps. Obviously, this is a mechanism to defraud patients from access to care and does not serve the public good, but still Kaiser does not have to pay taxes. I have had an extremely difficult time getting access to the care I am paying for with Kaiser. I would strongly recommend buying different insurance because you will certainly regret purchasing Kaiser.

Horrible
October 5, 2021

They are horrible they will not cover any clinic in my area. In order to get coverage I have to drive at least 20 miles if not more. They at one time covered my primary doctor until they built a building near her now even though I pay for insurance I have to pay cash to see a doctor I actually trust. I've been to some of there clinics before they shut them down that were actually closer to where I live and all but a couple of there doctors and nurses told me I didn't have what I was coming in to see them about and said they might not treat me. I have had to tell them they need to actually test me for the things I'm coming in for and treat me or I would go to the ER after all that headache it came back I did have what I came in for. They have tried to deny me refills on non narcotic perceptions before and different birth controls before. Lucky my doctor who I'm forced to pay out of pocket fought that. They assigned me one of there male primary doctors without my consent and when I had them change it they gave me a doctor that only works the days I work so I asked them to change that again they didn't I have to bring all my medical information into the doctor I have seen for 10 years because they will not list her on my medical records. This last visit they refused to cover my antibiotics lucky the pharmacy used there discount card so I could actually afford. The only reason I stay with them at all is my employer pays for a lot of it. I don't qualify for any stat medical even though I'm paying every month for medical that covers less then state medical dose. There horrible.
