I reserved a hotel for 3 nights on hotwire.com. I got to the hotel and check in, sat in my room for about an hour or so and found roaches and bed bugs. The hotel refuses to give me a refund. Hotwire didnt take any payment from me so they cant give me a refund. But they are representing Home 1 extended stay Memphis, which is basically a motel for prostitutes and drug dealers. With police presence most of the night. They are not compensating me for anything. They make these rooms look much nicer online than they actually are. The best room in this hotel is the lobby.

Horrible experience
August 23, 2019

I booked a flight for my family and I to go to London. We have flown with Delta through Hotwire before and appreciated how cheap the tickets were. Although this time we had an absolute horrible experience. First, they changed our flights many times. Then, our second flight was delayed 5 hours due to something wrong with the plane. This took about half of the time we were supposed to spend that day in London, leading to us wasting a full day. They then changed our flights on the way BACK. And without notification. So we got to the wrong terminal (the one that we were originally supposed to fly from and go to Paris) to be told that our flight was changed and we had to take a train to another terminal. The time and location was changed, therefore also disturbing our plans for our returning day. This website gave us very much stress and problems and I would not recommend it.

We booked a hotel room with Hotwire in the Chesapeake, VA area for the weekend. Never before have I experienced such incompetent Customer service. I thought the cheap cost would be worth it, but I would have much preferred to go with Expedia or another company after this.

Called up customer service to have someone else added on the room so that they could check in before me (I was stuck in traffic and delayed by hours). They said they needed to fax a document to the hotel with the other person's name and assured me that they'd take care of it. Long story short, we had to call them NINE times because every time they repeatedly sent the wrong paperwork. My friends had to wait FIVE hours in the lobby for me until 1am. When I called a tenth time to complain and asked for a refund, they refused. They instead gave me a $25 credit for a future purchase.

If you buy from them, don't expect any customer service at all. In fact, you'd be better off just throwing your money off a cliff.

If you don't call it a fraud, what else would you call it?
I made a reservation for a full size car for our vacation. The sale was final with no cancelation option.
Full Size
Hotwire Total (USD) 224.59 (Charged to Visa ending in 1895 on Jul 25,2019)
07/26/19 07/26/19 HOTWIRE-SALES FINAL *******473 CA
#*******F2XTPWVL6 $224.59
Went to pick up the vehicle at the airport
Rental Company (ACE): we are over booked; no full size car is available.
I asked for the return of my money.
Rental Company: ask Hotwire
Picked up the smaller size car, and returned it after or vacation.
The receipt shows the final charge was that the cost was $195.07 while you charged us $224.59.

This is what Hotwire sent me:

Dear Nassrullah Zonozy,

We are sorry to hear that ACE car rental did not provide the car type that you booked when you picked up the car. We realize this is frustrating and apologize on behalf of ACE car rental. This is not what we expect from our suppliers.

We also know this has been an inconvenience for you. As a way of apologizing for the car rental company's error, Hotwire has applied $56.15 Hot Dollars to your Hotwire account. Hot Dollars can be used to book any Hot Rate hotel or Hot Rate Car and are valid for one year from the date of posting. Each Hot Dollar is equivalent to one U.S. dollar. You will also receive an email confirmation of the Hot Dollar credit being posted to your account.

Again, we are sorry this happened. We are working with our car partner to ensure this does not happen again in the future.

Visit Hotwire.com or use the mobile app to book with Hotwire for your future travel. Thank you for choosing Hotwire.

Sincerely,

Dindo P.

This company is the worst do not do business with them unless you are a gluten for punishment. If for some ridiculous reason you decide that you will give them your money you had better read EVERYTHING before entering your cc#. I like so many others have been ripped off by them. Do to a work related emergency (I am a RN I had to change my vacation). I called to reschedule the booking for a later date and was told it cannot be done. I after speaking to a representative and a supervisor I was told no refund. No change of date. What thieves! I made the reservation in May. So I am out over $200. Don't make the mistake I did DO BUSINESS WITH SOMEONE ELSE! This company is not worth it.

Hidden Rules
August 6, 2019

I was in need of a cheap hotel to stay at for a few days until a situation cleared itself up. I found a decent cheap motel which I booked. Not having any experience with booking Hotwire "HOT" deals I did not know until after booking that you could not cancel even with advance notice. Both customer reps felt bad for me and said next time look for "regular" deals since you could cancel them. This did not help as they would not cancel and refund. I will NEVER do business with Hotwire again and suggest you don't. If you do make sure you know exactly the stipulations involved with the deal before booking or you may find yourself in the same situation as I'm in.

Terrible customer service, hidden fees that upped the cost of the hotel I booked by $70! Then they refused to help in anyway when I asked to cancel due to the hotel cost being out of my budget after the unexpected extra fees. Absolutely nothing was done to remedy the situation. I would never use them again. Terrible customer service and deceptive in the ways in which they display the breakdown of costs. Both people I spoke to were completely useless and reading from a script. Customer satisfaction means zero to this company.

I booked a hotel in NYC through Hotwire. The TOTAL billing cost $154.95. They put a hold for $170.81. The hotel had no fitness center as advertised. This is very important to me! When I spoke to Cheryl a manager at Hotwire, she had no clue why they put a hold higher that my total bill on my cc. Come to find out the fitness center was not in the hotel but across the street at a different hotel. When I mentioned this to her, her response was, "well we didn't say it was in the hotel"! Not to mentioned the 1st call I made the lady said please hold when I asked to speak to a manager and she just hung up! Use hoteltonight.com, hotels.com, Expedia.com, anything but Hotwire!

Don't use hotwire
July 28, 2019

I had a terrible experience on my vacations back in May. I booked through hotwire on april 26 and I rented a Van on Value Car Rental. Worse experience ever. We got at the MCO airport at 10pm on May 3rd with 2 little kids, a baby and 2 grandmas (so everyone was super tired, our moms flew from Chile.) We called them as their email said and they never got to the airport to pick us up. We called them several times with no response and after an hour waiting for the shuttle, they answered the phone and said they rented our van to someone else, even though they knew we were going to pick the van at 11pm. Long story short they sent us to go to another company saying they will do a matching price because they already talked to the manager and it was a big lie nobody called them. They stop answering the phone and after we realized they won't help us at all we decided to forget the booking and rent something somewhere else. Finally we rented the last Van on the only company available at 2am at the airport (the most expensive btw). Don't do hotwire because they won't tell you what company is until you pay, so won't be able to check the reviews of the companies before hand. Use another site, preferably one that you can see who you will be renting and make sure to check the reviews on google. Car Rental Value and Hotwire never even apologize to us.

Pre-payment means they don't have to talk to you again (unless you have 20-30 minutes to hold. If you book 2 services separately, you lose! They can't fix it because you pre-paid. Oh well, too bad for you. I'll pay more and be much less frustrated. You got me to use you and chased me away FOREVER, all within 2 hours. Congratulations Hotwire, it was a group effort. ADavidP

I researched several hotels on the Hotwire web site before making a decision. My choice was based on total costs. As soon as I booked my hotel I received a confirmation email informing me there would be a $50/night fee for parking my car at the hotel. Nowhere on the hotel site on Hotwire was that per night fee disclosed. I called Hotwire immediately to cancel and was told, "sorry we cannot help you. There are no refunds". Even though I tried to fight the charges on my credit card, I lost. BEWARE! Hotwire is very rude on the phone when you have a problem with their advertising. They are there to rip you off, not to offer you any type of customer service. Do yourself a favor and find a reputable, customer service driven, company to book your reservations.

I booked a rental car through Hotwire. They insisted I prepay for the rental, as the availability of the vehicles were limited. When I arrived at the rental agency, the vehicle could not be rented. Hoteire would not refund the hundreds of dollars that I prepaid.

I made a car reservation in April 2019. Paid with my CC to save a few bucks at the same time. I called and canceled the reservation in May. Was told by the girl that took my call the confirmation number was the same as the number they gave me when I made the reservation. She did call Thrifty and cancel the reservation, but PUT NOTHING IN NOTES.
I have been on the phone ALL day with hotwire trying to get my money back. They say they have no record of my cancellation, that they were charged by thrifty. I called Thrifty, they said my reservation was canceled and they didn't charge Hotwire anything.! It is now June 24,2019 and after being on the phone ALL DAY with hotwire and Thrifty, I finally got the refund. I will NEVER USE HOTWIRE AGAIN AND SUGGEST NOONE DO!

Booking a hotel
July 16, 2019

Terrible service and customer service. I will never use them again. I went to hotwire.ca and booked a hotel for this coming weekend. Never used the site and will never again. I booked an realized that it in American exchange and when I contacted them, they said they couldn't fix it as I should of known to change the exchange rate in the top left corner. Ya ok I go to a Canadian site and not assume that is in Canadian currency. It came up as 136. I assumed it was Canadian. I will make sure everyone under the sun knows not to use this site anymore. So pissed

This website is the biggest rip off of life. BEWARE HOTWIRE IS FRAUD!

They charged me in USD when I have the screenshots that it was going to be charged in CAD.

I called over 22 times for them to rectify, I got hung up on by "Supervisors", their call center in Philippines never seems to be able to give me any answers.
After fighting for my wrongfully charged money, here I am being called a liar by them. They make cash off of people with their fine print and shady games.
The supervisor explicitly told me I would be reimbursed for the difference, then someone else called me a liar for saying that.

Also, the hotel was horrible.

Save your time and your money, dont book with Hotwire! ZERO for everything.

Never, ever again
July 10, 2019

Their "hot" deals are a joke. Why pre-pay for car rentals and pay more? I've now switched over to carrentals.com. No pre-payments and lower pricing than Hotwire. And Hotwire customer service is anything but service. All they care about is holding on to the pre-payments. Never, ever again will I give a penny of business to this company.

Car Rental
July 5, 2019

Hotwire needs to do a better job of what companies they recommend. I rented a vehicle from Payless and it was the worst experience ever. Was lied to about getting an immediate discount for being an awards member. When I called they brushed it off as no big deal and said they couldn't do anything about it. I was also told no supervisor or manager was on duty. I would never recommend them to anyone and will never use them again. Waited 1/2 hour to get my vehicle and they didn't even have the one I was told I was getting. Everyone I spoke to which was 5 different people had a horrible attitude and no customer service skillswhat so ever.
