I like the wide array of tools that came with the shared hosting business package. I loved the Hostgator Website Builder. It's really unfortunate they're no longer supporting it.
Inexpensive hosting. Now my shared server Wordpress site is broken because it has taken over 2 years to upgrade to the latest PHP version.
It used to be good. Now it takes me hours to get anything done over the phone. Absurd customer service. Practically non-existent.

I wanted an easy site to manage and use. I asked for support call around Christmas. Never happened. I have not been able to use my site efficiently in three years.
I selected HostGator based on a recommendation from my mentor over a decade ago. However, my experience with their customer service has deteriorated significantly each year. Despite occasional instances of satisfactory support, the overall quality has been consistently poor, resulting in a significant waste of my time. The chat sessions often time out after agents continuously ask me to wait, with little to no progress made on resolving my issues.
Repeated attempts to seek assistance regarding a non-functioning feature resulted in unhelpful responses from multiple agents, only to have the issue mysteriously resolved weeks later without explanation. After investing more than a decade of my time and money into HostGator, it has become evident that their support is no longer supportive, but rather a drain on my resources.
I am now actively seeking alternative hosting services due to the lack of transparency regarding system failures, which are only addressed after customer complaints, often resulting in lost clients and revenue. Regrettably, I can no longer recommend HostGator to fellow business owners and individuals, as my trust in their services has been highly compromised.
I've been using HostGator for over 10 years. I choose them simple because I didn't know of any other hosting at the time however they have always provided what I needed and the customer service had always been just what I expect it to be. I definitely recommend HostGator for your hosting needs.
It is a bit not user friendly that I can not update my payment method on the checkout page.
I asked the same question to elevated technicians 7 times in different ways with plenty of specific details. They all never read what I was asking as they never responded exactly to my request about an SSH account that was created in cPanel (not WHM). It was a huge waste of time, and was very frustrating. I never got a straight answer. Then, the issue was mysteriously closed befor I could answer and re-ask an 8th time. This is not the first time with this sort of experience either. Generally I cringe and have to gird myself to contact HG support.
The new design is awful. I must now spend way too much time trying to find simple things like cPanel and settings like name servers. Seems like a lot of extra steps have been added, none of which are intuitive. If I were new at this, I still don't think it would be easy to find anything.
Other provider raised pricing. Support was not good there.
Set a new site on my account. Generated a 404 error I could not clear. Deleted the site, now I have an error saying my dashboard is unavailable. Additionally, I had wanted to set up WordPress, but, it was not available. Did a support chat, and they couldn't help me but kicked it up to another level of support.
I've had a few communication issues during my last few encounters to make some different changes to my previous setup, but everyone I spoke with & that helped me were very professional, knowledgeable & was willing to help me resolve my issues. I normally pass on leaving reviews good or bad but, I was happy to leave positive reviews after speaking with several staff members. Thanks & I look forward to using host gator for many years to come for my web building needs! Lately its hard to have any kind of human interactions with customer service if you have any kind of technical issues that may be unique & not in a forum question but its also a plus you guys have that access. KUDOS!
