Homestars.com is a scam. Why? As an employee of a contactor listed on this site, Ive personally witnessed and participated in posting at least a 50 10 star reviews for my employer. All you need is a valid email. Most of the reviews on there are not actually satisfied customers but the companies themselves. Very misleading and in my opinion wrong.

*Its not a reliable place to find a contractor. Its better to ask friends or family for referrals.

I don't believe the reviews on homestars.ca. I found one company with perfect 10 score and raving reviews that they are always on time. However, for me, they were a no show. I wasted time and money to make sure I was available and also got a sitter for my kids. I didn't get a call until almost 2 hours later.

Anyway, I tried to post my review but homestars will not post my honest experience because no exchange of money was made. It really makes me wonder how many reviews are real.

I am one of the companies that has been reviewed by Home Stars customers I have no conflict of interest and only have the highest praise for what they have accomplished and also saved many that would have experienced a bad job, but decided to believe their very fair and well documented input, saving that customer a horriblke experience.As the owner of KITCHEN DESIGNERS PLUS I can say without any reservation that they are masters in protecting the good ones and weeding out the bad ones.

I have used contractors from the Homestars site with great success. It is an accurate assessment of who is good. I am also on the site, as a contractor, with a perfect score and deserve it. We invite the happy customers to post their testimonials, so obviously there are more positive comments. I would not ask a client who is a bit less than happy to put a testimonial. But, I have met many of the Homestar contractors and have recommended them with good results.

Homestars takes money from contractors for listing their services which gives them a vested interest in getting listings listed regardless of the track record of a particular contractor. In short, Homestars does nothing to protect the homeowner from unscrupulous contractors and therefore they cannot be trusted. I know, I have been defrauded of 15,000 dollars by a contractor who paid for a listing on Homestars. Steer clear of Trevor Augustyn, owner of Hawthorne kitchen Design.
