The company exhibits a mixed reputation, with notable strengths in customer satisfaction when it comes to specific contractors and service providers, who are often praised for professionalism and quality work. However, significant concerns arise regarding the lead generation service, with numerous customers expressing frustration over poor-quality leads, lack of refunds for invalid contacts, and overwhelming solicitations. Many reviews indicate a decline in service quality following the merger with Angie's List, leading to a perception of the company as unreliable. Overall, while individual service experiences can be positive, systemic issues with lead handling and customer support remain prevalent.

The crew arrived early, were efficient, courteous and thorough completing the job beyond my expectations. In fact I was so impressed By the team's work ethic I plan to hire them for snow removal this winter and laying some sod in the Spring
I don't recommend using Home Advisor for servicing properties or any other services relating to home needs.
Pros: It is like a one stop shop where your information is shared to all contractors for services.
Cons: Most of the contractors in Home Adviosr are new in business. They are just marketing themselves. Some contractors aren't even licensed in that field but is just practicing business under a business name. After using two of the referrals sent from Home Adviosr listing I felt used.
When I called to make a complaint with Home Advisor customer support, I learned that Home Advisor does not do a thorough background check on there contractors nor do they require proof of licenses or certificates unless it is State required. Being that the contractors are being charge a handsome membership fee, some of those contractors turnsaround and charge the customer upon the day of appointment to recover there losses. Which is unethical because they should have informed the customer of any related fees upfront. In the future, I prefer speaking with an actual company for my home service needs.
We used home adviser for contractor(local) after hurricane Florence, local guy scammed us, wrote a review, home adviser wont post only good reviews so more people can be scammed. There are other sites, do not trust home adviser
I signed up for Home Advisor pro, paid my $288.00 annual fee and got approved. I started receiving calls and emails immediately but they did not tell me that when you get a call from home advisor that you get charged for that lead. Then I received 2 leads which I did try to make contact with the customer by calling and sending them a text. I never talked to the customer but I sure got charged for it. I called home advisor and tried to get a credit since I never got to talk to the customer, but they would not credit me for that. I would not have given even 1 star but I had to. This is a horrible decision I wish I never made.
STAY AS FAR AWAY AS POSSIBLE, I truly wish I had read these reviews before I signed up like most here I was lied to from the start. Fake leads, i truly believe they use robocallers to generate these leads. How many people out there don't have voice mail? Of the 24 leads i had 22 that the phone just rang like 15 times then discontented cost me 575.00 got nothing. Canceled my account call the CC company and got a block on them.
Maybe we should all get together and file a class action lawsuit, for scamming good honest folk
We signed up with Home Advisor to receive leads for our Green Cleaning Company. We were told that we will be charged for the leads that accepted our inquiry. The leads kept coming but they never answered when we called them to get their business.
Then came the credit card bill. 1543. 00 in 3 weeks for leads we did not get. I spoke to customer service and followed up with an email. That was 5 days ago and still no resolution. Place an ad in your local paper, canvass the neighborhood and talk to real people. That's my advice!
As a contractor we only used this service to generate leads for less then 2 months in which time they seemed to drain our pocketbook! The worst ROI we have ever experienced and we have been in business for over 25 years.
Leads turned out to be false, no refunds have ever been issued, complete run around when asking for management. Was basically told we don't need your business we tried to get answers to our questions. Now as of today they are threatening to send us to collections because I stopped payment for services not provided. I wish we had taken a more comprehensive research review approach before we had signed up with them. Total Scam Company and their reviews prove this, not to mention law suits pending. AVOID
Many thanks to all at TCM construction of somers point nj. They really do great work at great prices. Todd has a great crew working with him. Polite, professionals they came up with some great ideas for getting our kitchen back and went out of their way to help us
Signed up and from that moment on it was nothing but lies after lies! They could even define the type of work I do as I did not have the proper license? So they randomly threw me in a different field! I would stay far away from these ppl or scam artists as I would call them, and did not give them your credit card number whatsoever!
We are a small business, we thought if we used a site like HomeAdvisor, it would help grow our company. Unfortunately, it only put us in the poor house. HomeAdvisor states they send the business leads to potential customers, however what they truly do is charge the card you have given them regardless if you have accepted the lead or not. They have sneaky ways of charging your card as well. They text or email you with a lead and if you don't respond within a very short-period of time the lead disappears, as does the money from your account.
When you call to place the leads on hold, they may or may not do so and they will continue to charge your card, even if you don't accept the leads. When you call to complain, they do nothing.
The sales tactics are more like SCARE tactics. They say things like, "I have a buddy that uses our business and he's doing really well", "we don't understand why you aren't getting business". We have been so specific about our location of business, and they continue to ignore. We explain that it doesn't make good business sense to do bids 100 miles away from our location, and they continue to ignore.
We canceled our service with Home Advisor and will encourage other small business to do the same. Word or Mouth, Placing ads in the local paper seems to work better than this rip off company!
No one is telling the contractors signing up that you have to be defending your wallet from the HomeAdvisor when they'll sneak a lead or few and charge, charge when you're not watching.
They entire business setup is about them to be able to sneak a lead once you sign up:
1. You will not be able to suspend a lead flow indefinitely.
2. You can only suspend a a lead flow for 2 days on your mobile device.
3. You'll have to do it on a regular computer to suspend for more than 2 days (maximum 30 days).
4. You'll have to call in during their business hours to suspend the leads for up to 90 days and wait for the supervisor to approve it (!).
5. No human in the the company will
Be able to issue a credit - computer decides for you and for them.
Once again a Good business idea has been ruined by a corporate greed...
Time to find an honest lead generation company.
Hired hl properties inc worst contractor got paid did not complete work and does not respond he is a theif do not do any bussisnes with him his name is chris!
I put my leads on hold, because I was being charged for a lot of false leads.
For example, a phone number would be given, and the "customer" wouldn't know what we were even calling for. Or, we would be charged for a "lead", and the "customer" was only SHOPPING AROUND. All the leads cost money, on top of the membership fee.
I was still being charged, even though our leads were on hold, so I cancelled our membership.
All around, HomeAdvisor was a pain to deal with, and stressful.
As a busy business owner, I expect more for my money, then chasing false leads around. Disappointing to have pay an unreliable company to "promote" my business.
Talking to HomeAdvisor's was the worse decision that we have made in over 20 years in business. Their sales tactics are overbearing, anything that they say can not be trusted, they begin sending you sales leads before you sign up for the service and then expect you to pay for the lead, even though they are false and not in an area that you work. If you cancel, beware, their collections tactics are worse than their sales tactics. They will not listen and threaten to ruin your credit if you do not pay any outstanding balance. The threats do not stop. Do not even consider using their service if you value your business. Find other ways to seek and obtain new business, anything is better than HomeAdvisor's. I would gladly participate in a class action lawsuit against them.
We called Home Advisors inquiring about how their service works. We told them we are going to discuss and we would get back to them and to not charge our credit card until we get back to them. Well... a few days later they charged our credit card the $397 annual fee. After 3 length phone calls, all three times being told I would get a refund... no refund. Then I noticed another $67 charge for leads! Another phone call telling me I'll have my refund within 24 hours for the annual fee and the lead fee... 6 days later, still no credit to our credit card. I will be calling my credit card company tomorrow to dispute the charges. This is complete bull$#*!.
Extremely upset with homeadvisor. Over a short period of only a few months they have taken hundreds of dollars from our company with little to no return. When talking to customer service they promise refunds and to help but never deliver. We were promised a refund multiple times but after the phone call they never sent it. When I refuse to get off the phone until receiving a refund they just continue to transfer me to all sorts of people and when I still didn't hang up they tell me I was lied to by their employee and they can't help me. If I were to do that to a customer I would be put on blast in reviews and they would demand their money back until they get their refund. Never work with this company
Do not use their service. The call logging system they require you to use lags extremely bad. The number of fake leads is unacceptable. They make it almost impossible to cancel and we are forced to get a lawyer involved.
Every single day they call and every single day we tell them we are not interested in working with them, yet they won't take NO for an answer and never want to let you off the phone. They may not have a business to run but we do!
I wouldn't use this company for anything even if they were the only one out there.
I am contractor and i ma pay for star about this service 280$, from homeadvisor service evryday give me call 10 time a day for believe this service and to register and after that never nobady calll me and they chargj me for fhone call about never go thry, becouse i am calll fhonr nomber from homeadvisor service and the
Anser ist; 'i dont know for whit tolk about' be service, they ist falso servoce ist mafia ist fraud. Plz dont believe this service.
Keep in mind that I've become entirely frustrated by their BS. As a consumer you should know that they charge the contractor for each referral sent regardless of outcome. The scenario I've experienced again and again is they send referrals during the weekend which is way outside of my posted hours of operation and still collect a substantial fee upwards of $15 each. They've also collected fees for other contractors for the very same referral! This is after the initial fee of $347.98 to join with promises of qualified leads galore. Their explanation to me is that is my fault for pausing my leads just before the weekend, that made the leads turn on automatically 2 days later on Sunday.
I smell a class action suit coming. Shame on what was the very reputable Angie's List, for selling out to this Racket.
Answer: We had a similar experience when first trying Home advisor out. They kept taking money out of our account arbitrarily. I finally had to file stop payment forms at my bank. Then they threatened us with extra fees unless we "settled" our account. We have strict DTPA laws (deceptive trade practice act) in our state. I advised we complain to our Attorney General about this. I think home advisor should be banned in our state because of this fraud.
Answer: I didn't, they have been blowing my phone up for 6 month's now and now they act like thier desperate for me to sign with them. I have absolutely no want or will i ever sign with them after i have heard what thier doing to contractors who have a contract with them. I just signed with a family owned reality company and even they told me not to sign and even when i tell home advisor i don't want thier business they ignore my request and still call and now they act like thier a home owner requesting painting but once i get to asking where they live or information all of a sudden I'm being told to do a background check and i sign up for free! But i have to pay a percentage of my leads or size of job something of that nature where i pay them for a no guarantee of work as i see it. I can't trust handing money to a company that's being deceitful in a phone call off the rip! Just be careful i don't hear good thing's about them all over now.
Answer: Fake leads, sends email, text & calls between 20-30/day and charges for each. Even if Contractor doesn't open Or answer any calls! Will rip off contractors about $800/day until they catch it and no refunds! Do Not Use HomeAdvisor!
Answer: I don't know about the house cleaners but, I do not trust the company based on my own recent experience.
Answer: You don't know you have to call home advisor and wait on the phone for an hr until they pick up
