Goodday,
First of all, i love the community, i found many helpfull and absolutely wonderfull people here wich i consider friends
That said, wether or not you wil enjoy this site seems to be dependant on wich mod you happen to run into.
I made a account years ago, forgot all about it and a month ago i was looking for hp rp sites and happen to stumble on this one. I made a new account and after a hour or so got a owl stating i had two accounts, and wich one i wanted to keep. Told the mod my reasons and wich account i wanted to keep no harm no foul.
Two weeks later my friend visited and saw the site i was on. I told her to join me and she was like i dont want to input my email. So i gave her my email, not realising that would be considered cheating by a mod and i would get trow into azkaban for it. Couldnt log in for a day and got a rude email stating multiple acounts are not allowed and if i did it again i would get banned. No way to discus, get a apeal nothing.
Wanted to donate but i aint spending real money now!
The mods just force people out of the website without any legit reason. They get ALL the power on hex.
Like many have already said, I too have been a victim of some of the mods on this site. They don't let you explain, threaten to expell you from the site at the mere suspicion of you having broken one of their millions of rules.
Don't even attempt to stick up for yourself, because the mods wont believe you and you'll break another one of their precious rules: don't talk back to mods. Apparently hex isn't a democracy.
I'd like to start by addressing the fact that when I made my HEXRPG account, I didn't realize I had already made an account years ago that I never did anything with and promptly forgot. A lot of people here are rating badly because they got banned without a chance to explain... but I was messaged by a moderator and simply asked which account I would like to keep. No threat of banning at all. That's is as of 2017 so maybe they used to have a bad policy, but I personally haven't experienced the harsh treatment described by others with duplicate accounts.
Overall, the mods / admins seem quite dedicated to the site. They try to be as helpful as possible, and answered several of my dumb questions. I haven't been on the site for long, but I haven't seen any abuse of power yet... I just consider that these people write detailed lessons in many classes, grade all your homework (yeah a real person actually reads what you hand in), answer your questions, and moderate forums where they have to enforce whatever rules.
There are no real items. You can pay real money for items or upgrades but it's not necessary. Of course nothing is real... it's not real in the books or the movies either. It's a role play site, so of course your imagination and willingness to role play are limiting factors.
I take HEXRPG for what it is. I don't believe it's a scam like it's been accused of being. They don't force you to pay anything, and it's basically a huge interactive forum with lots of role play activities and discussions. You get what you put in to it.
This is a very interesting interactive site! Who wouldnt love being a witch/wizard and taking classes at Hogwarts. There is so much this site has to offer activity wise! Users are mostly very friendly and supportive. The staff member ls do a good job at running this site, but they do clique together and ignore users other users while chatting in the forum boards. Although they are very helpful and work together well as a team.
I love Hogwarts Extreme. I met so many friends and I do so many interesting classes. I made a club and had loads of fun. I think that HEX is the best interactive online game I have ever experienced.
Saw an add about this site and was super excited as I am a huge HP fan. Signed up, was playing around for a bit then got an email saying my account had been rejected! No reason given, no ability to ask why, and it says I'll be unable to re-signup. Seriously?
Hogwarts Extreme basically is your modern definition of a forum site that has a monopoly over issuing bans. If you get banned, you don't have the chance to explain or try to reason with the Hex officials. The officials are basically tight-knight, locking threads and forcing people off the site. It's basically a environment where the aristocratic derive pleasure from banning its user. And, I don't think they have their rules right. On the regulations page, they said "Please note that the server is housed in the United States of America. Therefore, these federal and state laws are the ones that govern this site. Texas state law applies." Ok... but I don't think multiple accounts are illegal UNLESS they're exploited for harassment, abuse, etc. How come other people use multiple accounts yet never get reported to the government? Plus, there's nothing in US law regarding multiple video gaming accounts. It's more of a violation of the Terms of Service, NOT the law. If multiple accounts were illegal, we'd see a bunch of people in jail... so... doesn't really stand to reason. The terms also state reporting your ISP. But, hold on, you know it's possible to fake an isp, right? Furthermore, the isp isn't a guarantee that action will be taken. To report someone's isp for a multiple account that obtains more rares and fake, virtual money seems like a waste of time, both for the isp and hex. Hex sounds a bit faulty, doesn't it? Don't waste your time on hex. I did, and I regret it.
The admins, and the other "house heads" and things like that abuse their power on the daily, don't go to the site at all. Avoid at all costs.
You dont need to donate to have fun, collect money and you will be able to buy thoose rares in no time!
HEXRPG is a scamming website that wants you to donate your hard earned money to the them so that they can use it to run thier cult of a website for useless fictional items that NO ONE EVEN USES IN REAL LIFE! They are a bunch of con men and women who just use their all damming power to disable your account at anytime as well as send you owls with one sentence instead a full written status report on WHY they are banning or disabling the account.
The moderators and owner of the website are the greatest bunch of scumbags if I've ever seen one. Sitting behind the computer screen, secretly stalking users and running a big brother like agenda on the website. And on top of that they even share among themselves and their friends the loot of the a million galleons!
This site is the worst example of censorship on the internet. If you really want to censor the internet get off it first because the net is not a place to be a prissy little entitled $#*!.
Honestly, I don't know how to rate this business or forum together, this review is difficult to type while many reviews express differently, is it forum or business. One star is to express how much many have difficulty, to understand; all focused to find and strike balance. Donators and business never should lump together but if one make mistake should be punished, details about this are not stated in black and white creating another reputation, how much ethics may rank third or fourth as seemingly, it can be not true. Hexrpg itself is forum-based than business-like. It is not difficult to relate to whom character in novel based, for relating, whom one see as villain as thought of wealthiness- as said reviews are difficult to write hence one star show much struggle to stay constructive not just me only.
Priorities can state clearer for one to relax shopping in Hexrpg.
I made an account three years ago, which I completely forgot about. When I made another and tried to explain, they completely banned me. When they ban you, you are banned for life. Personally, I think it's a stupid thing. If you want to start again? You can't. If you get deleted for something you could explain? The staff don't give you the chance. The staff don't give you the chance to explain, and aren't understanding at all. From what I've read, they seem pretty ban-happy. It could be very interesting, but it needs to change its rules before anyone should bother.
The staff are utterly rude, and I can't actually access the website now. The website has a policy where if there is more than one person on the same internet connection, you have to inform them. I added my sister's username into the form, thinking it would be fine and we could both access it. They emailed me saying my application was declined, and "not to bother joining again as we will know".
What sort of website turns away users? It doesn't even deserve 1 star.
The staff are rude and very unhelpful, specifically Motherof3 and Nefarious Black. Within a week of joining I had issues that those two could have helped solve, and they didn't. The site's PG-13 rating also ruined the experience for me, adding to the illusion of cyber-censorship. Needless to say the site owner, known as John, would have agreed with SOPA. All in all, if you hate rude staff members and restrictions, avoid this site. But if you like being ignorant to things and being talked down to by specifically Nefarious Black, by all means enjoy this place.
Wizards reproduce by budding. If you haven't already tried EVERY Harry Potter RP site, make sure you completely skip over this one completely. I almost didn't write this review but someone HAS to. 3 main issues.
1.) Items. Items range from rarity 1 to 7. The lower the number, the more rare the item is. Some items are so rare, ONLY STAFF MEMBERS HAVE THEM AND YOU CAN NEVER EVER EVER HAVE THEM. EVER.
2.) Staff mods stalk private messages and forums. Earlier this week a good friend of mine who donates about $20/mo to HEXRPG was banned for 24/hrs for using the word '$#*!ing' in a NONSEXUAL MANNER in an RP thread that was marked as closed between her and another user. Her fiancé contacted the owner of the site because a staff member, the one whom banned her, was giving her issues prior to the banning. This staff member has been mean to many of users and in result the user gets a ban. So, since HEX wants to pretend the f-bomb doesn't exist, I assume sex doesn't. So all wizards must be asexual... Or a dying race. Take your pick.
3.) All contests are rigged. Sometimes they have birthday and Christmas contests. And MOSTLY STAFF MEMBERS WIN THE RARE ITEMS.
So, all in all, this site is the bad part of the Harry Potter fandom, with it's stalking and love of only the staff, with no regards for the donators. Make sure you avoid this site, because it's not worth the drama and the anger it can cause.
Answer: From what I've seen in the negative reviews, most of these have broken the rules and were upset when they were punished accordingly. HEX does not allow multiple accounts, which is clearly stated in the rules. The idea that they automatically ban you with no warning or chance to explain yourself is completely false, as is the idea that other people aren't allow to have accounts in your household. I've been on the site for years and even recently became a moderator. All of these negative reviews talking about how terrible the staff is? Not allowed. Seriously, if any of us tried any of that stuff, we'd get in trouble faster than you could click report. Most of the negative reviews are simply from users who broke the rules and didn't like getting punished for it, along with the one or two reviewers who seemed to miss that HEX is PG-13. As someone whose been on the site for four years, let me assure you that they have given a completely off-base account of the site.
Answer: I have Aspergers and when I explained this to staff members who have attacked me over things I've said which they misinterpreted, and tried to explain what I really meant, I was basically told "tough luck" because what they say goes and their personal interpretation of what you say is the only meaning they will accept. It's happened to a few other Autistic Hexians as well from what I've heard. So, in all honesty? Avoid the bigger global mods and staff members/admins where you can because otherwise you might regret it if one of them reads you wrong and doesn't care to ask you for clarification. It's not worth the trouble. 95% of the regular users are very nice and understanding about the Autism spectrum though so don't shy away from talking about it if you need to.
Answer: If the negative reviews are all around the same time, and all have similar spelling/grammatical issues, they're from the same butt-hurt people who got banned for rule-breaking and are now salty.
Answer: I believe it is. I am a current member of the site and have found many wonderful friends and it has become a place for me to log into after a long day at school or work and not have to worry about the drama of everyday life. Granted, nothing is 100% perfect, as just like humans, the site still has some kinks that occur and you will find there to be some negative people who feed off of drama and misery. It is a matter of just being yourself and deciding which environment and experience you wish to have. The rules may seem silly or ridiculous, but some are in place due to COPPA or just keeping the users safe along with general online etiquette. So yes, it is worth it.
Answer: Yes, the site is free. There are options to pay in to get perks (items mostly), but they are in no way required.
Answer: Best way is the stock market because over time you receive dividends.
