This website has a so-called LGBT friendly forum but in the past few months (and especially the past week since Pride Month started) it has been rife with people - some of them moderators (e.g. House Prefects) - making homophobic statements, calling themselves anti-equality, and saying that the fight for equal rights for LGBT people and POC isn't important. Not only has staff been staying silent on this entire issue, but when people try to report the homophobes and racists they actually defend their cruel statements as being harmless and well-intended. It's 2019, not the 1800s. That should tell you all you need to know about this place. Would not recommend; extremely unsafe and upsetting.
I loved HEXRPG for many years but the reviews are true, many of their staff are horrid... They are great at contests and events but are awful with people. Some of them are nice to talk to but the rest are very clique-y and ignore you if you message them or try to chat with them in threads, then they complain that they are too busy and overworked, and they lose control of their emotions and get sooooooo impatient and snappy if you ask them a question about something you didn't know is in the " Knowledge Base " ( Oakley is the worst for this, scary as she is a " HEX Mentor " and has made newbies feel very upset and unwelcome)... And if you make a mistake you get threatened, they do not allow you to explain yourself, and then they blame you for THEIR misunderstanding if you struggle due to language barriers or if you don't understand the " HEX lingo "... It has really put me off the site and made me very uncomfortable... If you are a perfect person, 100% fluent in English and you do not have any learning disabilities, you will probably be fine. Otherwise... it is not worth your time and you will end up being hurt, and you can expect 0 apology from the paranoid Staff who assumed the worst of you.
Dragonsandwolves8,
Hogwarts Extreme was such a great game, I loved it sooo much, I joined when I was 11 left when I was 12 (now I'm 13) I left Hogwarts Extreme because I hated the person I (accidentally) made everyone think I was, I (probably) seemed like a vain snob who always talked about herself, I don't know what got over me when I started acting like that... But in reality I am a quite girl who ignores compliments of my face/body... so after I realised what I was doing I pretty much stopped talking to people and later deleted my account.
If I could start all over as the person I really am I would.
I would highly recommend this game to anyone though, it is honestly really fun and most people are really nice, The game might seem really confusing at first but don't be afraid to ask questions:)

I've been on this site for years - I'm talking since around when it first started when I was a kid. I've been sort of off and on through growing up and I'm an adult now.
While the site isn't so bad if you live alone, don't talk to anyone, or generally don't interact with the community, the moment you step outside that you're screwed.
Have a child or a sibling that wants to join? Banned. You had multiple accounts and no, nobody gaf if you try to explain. My daughter joined and got insta-banned, I told off the staff for not bothering to read that she TOLD THEM we shared an internet connection and they only replied that I should not have been looking at her account in the first place - only my own.
Before that, my sister is autistic and so she doesn't communicate well. When being mocked by multiple members on the site (including staff) she reported the thread and explained all that the anti-harassment rule told her to. Staff said she was being too sensitive, they weren't making fun if her autism in particular, and so it wasn't something against the rules. This has happened on multiple occassions.
Over half the staff sits there and talks about how they don't care about the members and only like the payment and power. And a lot of staff is like 12-13 which is horrible for a site where the majority of the members are 21+ and the site is so large.
So, I started my account and had a fun time. I was taking classes, entering raffles, and having fun. Then, my younger sister started an account. Well, after she entered in her information, we confirmed her account. But then, out of nowhere, they disabled my account. For no reason! I was so annoyed, shocked, and disappointed. They even disabled my sister's account, stating that multiple accounts were not allowed. The thing is, even in the form, we said that we shared an internet connection and used the same device. I'm just glad that while I was debating on donating to this website, I didn't.
However, I will say that if you don't have anyone using the same connection as you, you'll probably be fine. Most of the people on the site are really nice, and it does have a lot of fun experiences. I'm just annoyed that I never had the chance to really explore it fully.
So I was apart of Hex for nearly 3 years, in that time I became a mod of two areas, collected the items I wanted. I loved it! I was obsessed! Until one day I wake up to a note saying my account had been sent to Azkaban and that my account had been reset. Logging back in I found that all my items/galleons that I worked hard for had been deleted. I did not get a moment to explain to them that I did not have another account. Turns out it was an account I made that I forgot about and NEVER used 7 years ago. I actually spent real money on this website. I am so pissed that this happened I may not ever go back. I also agree with most of what everyone has said in the reviews. A lot of staff are nice, but there are some who are horrible. They won't listen to your side of things, or even care. You all have lost a paying costumer. Good bye Hex. Note: I followed all the rules, I never logged into another account unless it was a mod area account.
Well, when I was really young I made an account on hex, and since it has passed a long time the only thing I could remember was my e mail address, so I thought that would be enough since I can log in my gmail, but I could not, so I tried making another account over the same gmail and tried to explain the situation and was sent straight to Aszkaban, so I decided to text them again asking them if they could at least delete my first one and get the new one to be the only one, or at least to delete my first one, but they said that I can only log in my first one and that is all and they sent me the link I specifically said did not work, so I made another gmail account since I was thinking about it being my business account and decided to log to the hex by it and was kicked out and they said that my account is in aszkaban for a. You will not belive it. A year, a hole year! The rest is amazing, but the service is just URGHH, kinda like Umbridge
So my little sisters account just got sent to Azkaban and so did her friend's! The moderator said something about how she can't have two and more accounts. Then they asked her which she wants to keep so she said her account yet they expelled her friends account and put her account in Azkaban! Like, what dumbness is that? And they put my sister in Askaban for 3 DAYS! I mean really. Anyway overall, the rest is okay I guess.
I had some of the best times of my life on there. The majority of the members are really nice and helpful. There's tons of activities to participate in, but just be careful as it can take over your life.
Downside: the staff have some weird standards for choosing new staff members. It's very clique-y. And I really don't think that a 12 year old should be a moderator on a large website with such a big active membership (with the majority being age 20 and older). When you're being told off by someone less than half your age who cannot write without mistakes and comes off as whiny in general, the staff and their decisions lose their credibility big time.
Okay, so let me begin...
I really do love Hexrpg, it's an amazing interactive site and I love all the Res and events. Basically everything.
You're probably wondering why I am giving it only 2 out of 5 stars. You are also guessing/know that my problem with the site is the moderators and Staff. The Staff are terrible. SO... Let me get on with my story, TIS SA MOD owled me saying that I was spamming the thread and he/she said (sorry no naming names :D) that I was going to be kicked out if i kept doing it.
Something fishy was going on. I
(1) Was not spamming a thread
(2) I figured out who the person was
I owled back and tried to explain to TIS SA MOD and he/she didn't want to hear a word of it, instead I was sent to Azkaban for a day.
And I AM LIKE; COME ON!
How?
What?
WHAT CRAP!
Okay, that's my story. I gave up on Hex that day.
The site has a great concept but the staff are ruining it. One in particular has had it out for me since I broke my first rule the very first time. They do not enforce their rules equally, people who donate a LOT of money to the site get away with bullying, doxing, and harassing.
If you're being bullied on the site you're told to ignore the person as there is no block feature for the forums, and you get a warning for not alerting staff sooner.
The owner of the site refuses to hold his mods, staff, global mods, etc. accountable for their wrong doings and they are allowed to get by with being unhelpful, rude, and choosy with who they punish for rule breaking.
The main mod to stay away from? Mother of Three... She's the oldest yet most disgusting, childish, rude, and the one that gives those legendary unhelpful 'two word sorry' replies. If you get in trouble she goes through your messages and bans you for things you barely knew were rules. If you're not on her good side, in the Staff Mod Clique, or completely bow to her... she'll ruin you.
Hex is an amazing website. One of my friends introduced it to me about a year ago, and I instantly fell in love with it. It's honestly really hard and tricky as a start, but once you get used to it, everything gets easier. You won't be super rare or super rich or anything straight away, but after a while, you get used to it. Make sure you ask loads of questions, because most people will answer them for you! Mentors are actually very helpful, and I hope y'all will ask them when you have questions or comments.
Overall, Hex is wonderful! I'm not the best on Hex, nor the richest, nor the rarest, but it's super fun for anyone who loves Harry Potter/RPs. I'd consider it for any age (well probably 10 and up), but it's super awesome!
I've made tons of friends, and have soo many wonderful memories! Don't let this opportunity escape! Take it!
Most families have only 1 internet system in their house, but HEX makes it absolutely impossible for more than 1 person per household to enjoy the site. I logged in many happy hours on the sight for almost a year, when 2 family members came over for a few months. When they were here, they wanted to sign into their HEX accounts and play alongside me. However, when the so called adults at HEX realized 3 people were using the same internet connection at my house they expelled all of us. A totally ridiculous rule!
Also, if you have to delete your account for one good reason or another; you are never allowed another one in the future, so beware what you do on HEX. Hex is a childish site, run by silly people; definitely not one up to the standards of Pottermore.
So Hex is mods and staffs are run by volunteer people and those people don't even answer your owls! They basically fling you out the window and won't give you helpful words.
Like you're bloody staffs but you won't answer people's owls properly.
Basically, I sent an owl saying I needed help with Graphic making and whatever, and the lady was online at the time. She replied by saying check the Arts and Graphics forum.
That did not explain anything, so I asked her again which forum?
She was like: (and I quote this) Just go to the Arts and Graphics place and go through all the forums"
I was pissed, honestly!
I'm not wasting my time going through all those bloody threads!
Wow, HEX is pretty awesome. In the time I've been here, I have become a way better writer, made at least 40 friends, and done some pretty cool stuff on HEX. Now, don't get me wrong, I've had my ups and downs, I got frustrated at a mod and a game, a thread annoyed me to pieces, but my experience has been overall, great.
HEX might be unfair sometimes, but I have soooouch fun in my dorm and clubs. I mean, I barely have any money and buying HEXmas and Bday gifts is a pain, but I like it when I get rare things
The site is amazing, really good graphics and all and it's fun and interactive. Though I have a problem, the staff members and moderators are really stuck up and full of themselves.(most of them). My sister, she has an account and I have an account as well. One of the mods sent an owl saying she has more than one account and then my mom had to step in and tell them off. Like just because you share an internet connection doesnt mean you have multiple accounts. And plus both siblings should be able to play on Hex as well. The rules are pathetic, but some of the rules are good as well.
Other then that, the site is well made! And its addictive.
First off: majority of the negative reviews are from people who broke the rules and were punished accordingly. You are NOT allowed to have more than one account, which they include in the rules. (Despite these reviews, the staff also does not just automatically ban your account, that's not how it works.) The site is also PG-13, so keep that in mind.
Hogwarts Extreme is a wonderful, fun website to be on! I've been a user since I was fourteen and it has things for everyone. You can make friends, roleplay, do classes, etc. Users are incredibly friendly to everyone and the site strives for fairness in everything they do. It's really an awesome, fun place to hang out, even if you don't like Harry Potter.
Hexrpg is a very interactive site, with wonderful features. I would rate it 5 stars, if not for the staff. I'm not referring to staff & mods in general, just certain staff. If you cross them, you're toast. They are like children younger than me who exercise enormous power. In Chinese, it is called shun wo zhe chang, ni wo zhe wang(those who abide by me rise quickly, those who do not die). Here is the fairest that I can comment about Hex:
Brilliant features, rubbish ruling.
If a quiet 60 year old like myself can get in trouble with the moderators on Hex, then there is a problem and I don't think it is with myself.
Here you can experience how to be at hogwarts, like doing homework, and learn some spells etc, for one year plus i'm here, i really enjoy it. But i agree with some people here, the mods are quite nasty here, they are intolerable, i wish they would at least listen to others before send other users to Azkaban,. BUT then not ALL of them like that, since i'm in Slytherin, i've always encountered with Slytherin staff/mods, and they all are very nice. So i guess not all of them are bad, some really gv bad names to other staff though.
Answer: From what I've seen in the negative reviews, most of these have broken the rules and were upset when they were punished accordingly. HEX does not allow multiple accounts, which is clearly stated in the rules. The idea that they automatically ban you with no warning or chance to explain yourself is completely false, as is the idea that other people aren't allow to have accounts in your household. I've been on the site for years and even recently became a moderator. All of these negative reviews talking about how terrible the staff is? Not allowed. Seriously, if any of us tried any of that stuff, we'd get in trouble faster than you could click report. Most of the negative reviews are simply from users who broke the rules and didn't like getting punished for it, along with the one or two reviewers who seemed to miss that HEX is PG-13. As someone whose been on the site for four years, let me assure you that they have given a completely off-base account of the site.
Answer: I have Aspergers and when I explained this to staff members who have attacked me over things I've said which they misinterpreted, and tried to explain what I really meant, I was basically told "tough luck" because what they say goes and their personal interpretation of what you say is the only meaning they will accept. It's happened to a few other Autistic Hexians as well from what I've heard. So, in all honesty? Avoid the bigger global mods and staff members/admins where you can because otherwise you might regret it if one of them reads you wrong and doesn't care to ask you for clarification. It's not worth the trouble. 95% of the regular users are very nice and understanding about the Autism spectrum though so don't shy away from talking about it if you need to.
Answer: If the negative reviews are all around the same time, and all have similar spelling/grammatical issues, they're from the same butt-hurt people who got banned for rule-breaking and are now salty.
Answer: I believe it is. I am a current member of the site and have found many wonderful friends and it has become a place for me to log into after a long day at school or work and not have to worry about the drama of everyday life. Granted, nothing is 100% perfect, as just like humans, the site still has some kinks that occur and you will find there to be some negative people who feed off of drama and misery. It is a matter of just being yourself and deciding which environment and experience you wish to have. The rules may seem silly or ridiculous, but some are in place due to COPPA or just keeping the users safe along with general online etiquette. So yes, it is worth it.
Answer: Yes, the site is free. There are options to pay in to get perks (items mostly), but they are in no way required.
Answer: Best way is the stock market because over time you receive dividends.
