My girlfriend and i decided to try hellofresh for a month after recieving a promo code from a friend (who also has canceled their sub since) and it was possibly one of the worst things i have ever tried. I don't even know where to begin. We got 4 boxes before calling it quits, but i should have just stopped after the first like my gut told me to. The first box we received had such a rancid smell we could barely open the box, to find everything spoiled and covered in mixed meat juice. When i tried to contact customer service, i was shuffled into their streamlined automated customer service of "here's account credit" (which is so presumptuous that it's almost insulting) not to mention i didn't even receive the amount of credit i had paid for the box. Can't even use the account credit because my boxes were under a "promotion" so good solution there *heavy sarcastic eye roll*. Pretty annoyed at this point. Our second box (the 1/4 we both received and could eat) arrived and was fine. Our third box arrived just as rotten as the first, completely inedible. At this point i'm seeking real customer service and to cancel my subscription, and this was the nail in the coffin for me. They intentionally make you jump through hoop after hoop just so you can talk to an actual customer service rep, who was barely helpful and was more interested in talking up their terrible product and service (which i mostly do not blame him because i can see that he is likely forced to say those things). I was able to get a partial refund, not even close to the amount i wasted on this whole endeavour. Did i mention they also intentionally do not have a way to cancel your subscription in the app? Another hoop to jump through. After going on the website and being bombarded with "ARE YOU SURE YOU WANT TO CANCEL?!" messages (more to come via email) i was able to cancel and take a breath. Our 4th box was delayed twice and has yet to arrive, by which time i'm sure it will be just as inedible as boxes 1 and 3 were.
In summary:
Nothing about this service is even close to quality, only subscribe if you want to spend 3x the amount to receive rotten food and to not get your money back. This review does not even do justice to their level of deplorable service. Save yourself the headache and use InstaCart instead
I bought a gift card for my parents for the holidays and when they went to redeem it a credit/debit card was required. I am not sure about others but a gift card should not require any additional funds or financial information to redeem. Hellofresh should change their wording. I would suggest maybe credit towards your purchase at least that that would give the consumer concern when buying. I was informed over the phone that it was required for shipping and I said why cannot they use the money on the gift card towards shipping. I was told they use a 3rd party for shipping and that is why they needed the credit/debit card. Buyers beware of purchasing any gift cards from Hellofresh unless the person you are buying them for already have a Hellofresh account. What they are selling is not a gift card it is more like a subscription credit. Very very very very disappointed and I cancelled the gift card. I am going to let them purchase meals off my account and then and only then they can decide if they want to become a part of Hellofresh without being forced into something. NO MORE GIFT CARDS FROM HERE FOR ME.

My first week delivery went well and food was quite tasty. Worth the discounted price, but wouldn't be worth full price. My second week in and my delivery doesn't show up, and just an email saying it is delayed with no further information. I called customer support and they said there is a shortage and it's not coming. They gave no future discounts or anything to make up for this, just refunded the box. (If they can give out tons of free boxes to people we refer they can certainly give us a free box for their poor service). I now have no food for the week and will not be ordering from them again.
I honestly enjoyed HelloFresh since it saved me a trip to the grocery store. Randomly we would receive the wrong meals all together or we would be missing items. Wasn't honestly that big of a deal. Well recently I started noticing random separate charges to my bank account from hello fresh on top of what my box should cost. It ranged from 9-24 dollars. I couldn't figure it out and the website is nearly impossible to navigate when it comes to customer complaints. I would not recommend.
Hello Fresh keep me sending a weekly delivery without making it obvious that this would happen. I feel that the free trail was a scheme to get my bank details and charging me a new delivery without noticing it.
I am upset and I don't think that this is a honest way of making business. I am sure that I am not the first person with the same type of comment.
On the cooking side, HelloFresh is great, its very easy to follow the instructions and make tasty meals with fresh ingredients. The problems comes with their delivery service, I had an issue with it and tried contacting them multiple times to get it resolved only to be told my problem would be "escalated to logistics (then to management), well nothing ever changed and my deliveries were still delivered incorrectly. This is on top of contacting their delivery service as well to fix the problem. I don't see the point in continuing with the service with such dishonesty.
Ordered first 3 meals and found a large dirty piece of plastic sealed inside the broccoli bag. Gave us an $8 refund. Poor customer service.
My very first box had one completely wrong meal and the other meal was missing the meat! I tried contacting customer experience and it was very frustrating experience. They wouldn't refund my money and would only give me a credit for 5 weeks when my intro period was over. The agent was sarcastic and not at all helpful. I have canceled Hello Fresh and hope to find a better meal service that actually sends the meals and ingredients ordered. A total rip off!
First order. Doesn't turn up. Not going to be in tomorrow - so food would be sitting on doorstep all day. Customer service a waste of time. Abysmal. Took me all day to get a refund. Would not recommend.
Vegetables quality is not what was expected.
Meat quality is good.
Delivery stuffed up twice.
The recipes are very easy to follow.
Some weeks ago I had some teething problems but support was right on it. They are a pleasure to do business with this!
Portion sizes so small we're still hungry after each meal. Had to supplement with other ingredients and add more meat. We're normal sized people - not overweight - but meal sizes are more for children.
Food quality left something to be desired. All fresh produce is extremely small. No expiration dates on any meat. Totally unacceptable. Not cool that we have to trust that the meat is fresh. I don't trust my health to a company that refuses to give proper expiration dates.
Talked to customer service about canceling a box. She confirmed it was done and that a refund was processed. Wasn't true. Box arrived and no refund was issued. Contacted CS again who said "oh darn. Hate that for you. We can only authorize 50% refund." I had proof of my conversation but they refused to accept my screenshots.
I unsubscribed from email and am still getting emails. The last one had no unsubscribe link at the bottom which is a violation.
Every single thing that could have been good with HF was much less than acceptable. So good bye and good riddance.
I have used HF on and off for 2 yrs. They started great but have failed in the last six months. Missing or 1/2 portioning of ingredients, frozen items that are not supposed to be frozen, moldy spices and vegetables especially beans, crushed tomatoes, avocados that don't ripen til 2 weeks after receiving them, wrong meal or wrong recipe card. My ingredients come out of the Edmonton area and their quality control has diminished greatly. I'm tired of phoning their customer service line to let them know they are not delivering a quality product here in Alberta. Yes they give me a partial refund on the meals box each time but I don't want to have to complain. It's time consuming and frustrating to get through to them and then I still have to go to the grocery store to replace the ingredients they hooped up on. I finally gave up sending complaints and started keeping some extra ingredients in the house in case but that doesn't help with the fresh ingredients. The final straw came when they sent frozen eggs for the egg salad sandwich lunch my teenage daughter wanted to try for her school lunch. Because the eggs came frozen so when my daughter made the sandwich filling it was runny and the egg whites were rubbery. I called, complained and canceled my account. In general I liked the idea of meal kits as it frees up time and allows my teenaged to easily prepare meals when I can't. I also liked the variety of meals they have but with such poor quality kits I never know what I'm going to have to deal with so I won't be going back.
My husband and I thoroughly enjoy these... I am impressed with the customer service they solved my query within 1 working day.
If I could give negative stars I would for worst customer service and worst delivery. Week after week my boxes came late or not at all. I had a credit of around $124.00. I finally got tired of trying to use the credit and called to cancel and ask for a refund. The person I talked to said she would do that. A month later, no refund. When I called back I spent over 30 minutes talking to one agent and then was finally transferred to a supervisor. They could not see that I ever had a credit if $124.00.
I think the previous agent must have deleted when she cancelled my account. I was so frustrated that I finally gave up. Horrible, horrible company. Every customer service call was lengthy and full of promises and false sympathy. They cannot seem to fix their problems
My first order contained a menu with green beans and a poblano (like a green pepper) the beans were soggy and blackened and too rotten to use: the poblano was rotten on the top half so I had to substitute with a green pepper. If they could do as good as their marketing and packaging, they could be world class. My second order was missing a recipe and a vegetable so I unsubscribed. I may give them a second chance but so far CHEF'S PLATE is sending fresh food with similar format. Sorry no photo, my wife and I are seniors - just found this site - I love reviews - keeps them on their toes. M Garratt Kelowna
Hello fresh is a SCAM! Please do not give them any of your money, they will over charge you, send boxes that aren't yours, and charge you for weeks that you skipped!
I started getting hello fresh almost weekly around 4 months ago and it's been so helpful (I fell into one of those youtube ads)! I haaaate cooking and thinking about what to make for dinner so it does make my life easier. Only thing is I wish they had more menu options for dietary restrictions! You can easily adjust most meals to fit your needs but sometimes that means wasting ingredients.
On an occasion where I was sent the wrong meal they quickly credited me back that cost and it was an easy fix.
I tried 6 hello fresh meals. I've had to toss away moldy produce in 30% of the bags. They use a ton of packaging for shipping and for all the ingredients. If you order meals for 4, you get double the items for meals for two. The meal preparation seem to be designed to waste time. Too much prep, overly complicated steps just for the sake of it and poor directions. The meals take longer to make than they state. This may be nice for someone starting out and doesn't already know how to cook and doesn't keep normal ingredients on hand. They do expect you to have things on hand at home like butter or vegetable oil, but will package up a table spoon of flour or grated parmesan. The meals taste good if you don't have to throw away produce, but for the effort, save your time and get carry out or meal plan with recipes and have those ingredient delivered.
My wife was gifted a box from Hello Fresh (really should be called Fresh Hell), but it arrived with thawed meat and a leaking hole in the box. When my wife called to complain she was told that the company would send a new "free" box (for which we had to pay shipping costs), but only after we paid for two other boxes (at a discounted price). We were not customers before the soggy box arrived and do not plan to become customers after the delightful customer service experience.
Answer: I signed up and realised its a scam - your first order is only able to be placed 2 weeks away, meaning they get your money even if you use a coupon... and from other reviews they won't let you cancel. I just registered a voucher, saw the dates and tried to cancel... and can't - there is no "cancel" on their website
Answer: You will still have to pay for delivery and such because this company says those things cannot be covered by a gift card. Beware signing up, because they will subscribe you as soon as you enter credit card information. It is in their Terms and Conditions at the beginning of the process.
Answer: You're automatically on auto ship…any week you don't overtly cancel will get sent out and you'll get charged.
Answer: Nor really. They will want to give you a partial refund of the single ingredient you found to be of poor quality... and that's if you want to take the time to navigate the website to find out how to do it. Their website is totally designed to make customer service difficult.
