GreenDot will not transfer funds to another card, they will send a refund check and it's the holidays. The refund check will take 14 days to receive and Christmas is in 8 days. For best prepaid card service use NETSPEND. They will take pride in helping correct what's wrong and transferring your money to another card.
A member of our church generously donated the full amount of a Green Dot card he had received as a gift. After spending several days trying to work with the site, I was finally able to receive the "personalized" card to use. Back to the Website, to make an attempt to send the money to the church. What a mess. For 35 minutes, every time I clicked on an action, the site sent me back to the login page. I'd login, try to send money, got sent back to login. This went on for almost 20 minutes. Then, and only then, did I discover that Green Dot had already taken out $7.95 in fees. In other words, the member was unable to give the amount he thought he was giving to the church. I would not recommend this card or company to anyone, especially another church.
I recommend not banking with Green Dot. If your account is ever compromised and you file a legitimate dispute they take 10 days to tell you that the dispute was not granted. Also, forget about talking to someone directly. During two separate calls I was on hold for a total of 75 minutes. It was expensive mistake, I lost the money. I pulled my out and went to a real bank.
I was given a Green Dot prepaid visa card loaded with $20 for my birthday. After activating the card, I try to go use it at the gas station only to find out it had only $12.05. They charge you a "monthly fee" of $7.95 immediately after activation... which is then subtracted from the total balance. SCAM!
I don't even want to give them the full one star. I was not under the impression that everytime I slid the card I get charged 1.50. Green dot has taking 9.00 dollars from me in fees and will not work with me to get it back. That's a rip off! I bought the card for bills and put exactly what I needed on the card. Once I got to the last bill I realized I didn't have enough which was odd. I logged in and saw that they literally charged me 1.50 each time I used the card. I called the company and explained that I was not aware of the fees and they said they would refund my money only to hang up on me after being on hold for 30 minutes, just for me to call back for them to put me on hold for another 20 minutes and hang up on me the second time. I have been trying to reach out to this company and I have zero luck. I will never use this card again and I will advertise how badly my experience on any and everything I possibly can. Thanks a lot green dot for the $#*!tie fees you have stolen from me.
I stayed on hold for over an hour to speak to a representative I could barely hear. I found out my call was to the Philippines! My dog chewed my card, bI needed a replacement and they completely froze my account! Charged me 5.00 for a replacement 5-7 days and to expedite 15.00 more dollars but I had to call back to do that. Horrible, horrible, horrible. Find another card it's not worth the aggravating
I use the Walmart Moneycard which is issued by Green Dot and has the same policies and procedures as Green Dot cards. One of their biggest issues is their holding period for pending transactions. I made a purchase(hotel reservation) through Priceline and ended up cancelling the reservation less than 3 hours after making the reservation. Priceline charges you immediately for that reservation. Green Dot held that money as "pending" and unavailable for use for 10 days. I even had Priceline contact Green Dot and "remove" the authorization hold. I was still told that the system holds the fund with a specified release date and there is no manual override to that. This was rather disappointing as I have found out with other cards similar to this, that hold last for 7 days, and some will even remove the hold once the merchant lifts it.
The customer service is also below sub-par. I have had to contact them several times both on the phone and through the in-app feature, and they were of no help. It was almost as if speaking to a robot because nobody said anything that deviated from an obvious script. They seem to have an answer for everything right at their fingertips, and none of those answers are even remotely helpful to the caller.
The fact that they impose a monthly maintenance fee, unless you meet their threshold, is also ridiculous. There are many other cards out there(Chime, Varo), which offer no fees. If they cannot have helpful customer service and ridiculous policies, and horrible time frames, then why pay a monthly fee?
This is one card that I regret getting, and will be switching as soon as possible.

My son bought a green dot VISA debit card to give to someone as a gift. Before the recipient was able to use the card, email was received noting that the card had been suspended due to suspicious activity, The only suspicious activity was the monthly service fee of $7.95 by Green Dot.
Will never use this company again.
We bought a greendot card and they let you put money on it but they wont let you register or activate it. So you can't get your money after 5 or 7 days of trying to register it I give up and can't get my $2,000 that I put on it
Worst company ever they stole my federal tax return and say they have no record of it. Do not trust green dot bank. And I would suggest going to netspend bank instead.
No customer service, Cant get help they charge you to have a card Beware fees are crazy, they trick you
If you need help on any topic there's no way of talking to a real person unless you have a card number or a social security number linked to a card number. They give you only limited topics for help none of which are even relevant. Don't waste your time with them you won't get help from them at all. No service whatsoever.
I went to 7 /11 I though a 100 card would be 2 dollars. Of course the clerk can hardly speak english. Short version some 27 dollars just to spend my own money.
I've been using this card for at least 5yrs. The fees are to high for the service that you can't get anymore! Years ago the service was good any time I had a problem I'd just call them and they'd take care of it while I was on the phone. BUT NO MORE SERVICE ANYMORE!
My credit card was stolen and when I called I was given no options of getting my money out before the account was closed they just closed the account and now I have no way of accessing the money in the account so I can't pay bills or eat when I try to talk to a customer representative on the phone I cannot access any human my paycheck is directly deposited into Green Dot and now they won't accept deposits either there was a way of getting access to my money through PayPal that I linked to my green card and they didn't bother to tell me that my account will be closed for 3 weeks with no access to the account customer service was not helpful whatsoever and when they withdraw their monthly maintenance fee it doesn't show up on transactions so you don't know why your account is $7.95 shortand they also tell you that if you go to certain places like Walgreens it's a no charge withdrawal at their ATMs that is a lie I got charged several times and about 20% of the time the card won't work when you use the chip to pay for products and it won't give you the option of swiping your card please for your sanity and your finances do not use green card services
What a rip off! They charge $8 monthly fee UNLESS you physically go to a participating place and load $1000 a month. Direct deposit DOESN'T COUNT. A lot of online purchasing doesn't qualify for the cash back. I have a refund pending and they won't release it for 14 days. I've had the checking account for 3 months. I've earned $6 cash back and have paid $24 in fees.
I've had the card for a while and at first, yes I had some smaller issues but now it seems like everything has gone to hell starting with them sending me an activated card. I am in the process of ending my relationship with them which they are making more difficult than it should be. Don't trust them. I've had nothing but bad luck and wouldn't wish these hassles on anyone.
NEVER AND I MEAN EVER SIGN UP WITH GREENDOT. My account had been compromised and OVER $200 was stolen from my account. After reporting fraudulent activity they told me it would take 10 days for it to be credited back to me which I still have not received! I have been hung up on, lied to, and was told that there are currently NO MANAGERS OR SUPERVISORS to speak with. All of the agents in customer service are foreigners and have absolutely no idea what they are doing and just going off a script. I would advise ANYONE to reach a "specialist" and see for yourself! There are plenty of other well established banks out there but green dot is NOT one of them and they will be going out of business soon.
