I recently had the pleasure — and I use that word in the same way one might say "I recently had the pleasure of swallowing a wasp" — of hiring a car through GotRentalCars.com. Now, you might imagine that a company whose name literally claims to have "Got Rental Cars" would, at the very least, have got some rental cars. And indeed, they did! Unfortunately, what they didn't have was any particular desire to give me one. When I arrived, weary and travel-worn, I was informed that, because it was late at night, I would need to pay an additional €50 for the privilege of having someone unlock the car I'd already paid for. This, apparently, was my punishment for the outrageous crime of arriving at the time my flight landed. I paid, of course. I'm British. Faced with a ludicrous demand, I didn't argue — I apologised and handed over my card. A few days later, I contacted GotRentalCars to politely suggest they might refund the €50 ransom. They replied, with the confidence of people who have clearly had a lot of practice, that this was entirely Europcar's fault and that I should speak to them instead. Europcar, for their part, assured me that it was absolutely GotRentalCars' fault, and I should speak to them.
And so, for the past eight weeks, I have been the bewildered child of a particularly joyless divorce, with GotRentalCars and Europcar taking turns to tell me why the other parent doesn't love me. At this point, I don't even want the €50 back. I just want someone — anyone — to admit that this entire industry appears to be a shared hallucination sustained by paperwork and mutual blame. In conclusion:
If you are looking for a company that will take your money, provide a Kafkaesque correspondence experience, and ultimately leave you poorer, angrier, and faintly impressed by the scale of their incompetence — GotRentalCars.com is the obvious choice.
I have been trying to get a refund for a cancellation since the end of May. They have stalled and lied about the refund alleging my card provider block it which is a total lie. Be warned you get customer service email response in French at times. Avoid at all costs
This company contracts with other small foreign companies then takes zero responsibility for the service they offer. I rented a car through with a small agency in Italy. The rear passenger panelled got scratched in a narrow alleyway and due to an early flight back to the US I had to leave it there (using the key drop box) before the agency openned in the morning without receiving the final rental contract showing the damage. My insurance people at my credit card company need that one document showing the damage. I have contacted gotrentals.com five times the past nine months to help get this one necessary document and they have done nothing but forward emails to Italy. I begged them saying "Can a human here please talk to a human there and communicate five words "final rental agreement showing damages?" and Denisha said "no we can't." I asked if there is someone higher up who could do this and she said "no" and hung up. They point fingers of responsibility at the companies they chose to contract with (and receive money from) but take zero responsibility themselves and provide zero customer service or satisfaction. They told me (to take responsibility for their chosen partner) and call Italy myself. So there is what you get from gotrentalcars.com. From now on I will only rental from nation companies like Avis or Budget that keep their own records and take responsibility for the service they offer.
Four months ago, I reserved a pick up truck to be picked up at the airport. Yesterday, two weeks before our trip, they called to cancel (at least they called and didn't just send an email!). For the same price, the only vehicle they could get us is a standard SUV and it has to be picked up off site from the airport. When asked what I could get from the airport, it would have been a small SUV for literally TWICE the cost. Inconvenient and a horrible way to do business!
Don't bother using this company, they cancelled our booking last minute and still charged us a late fee. Completely unprofessional, they hang up on customers addressing the issue, not worth the stress
TERRIBLE COMPANY Don't book if you don't have a credit card. Very old fashioned system to get you to book and take a booking fee when you cancel. I cancelled within an hour of booking and they still charged me. The only time it was made clear I needed to pay by credit card was after I had paid.
Gotrentalcars is a poor 3 party company for making car reservations. They don't know how many cars will be available. If the Dollar, Thrifty or Hertz runs out of cars and cancels your reservation, Gotrentalcars will not return your money. Customer support is a joke. Calls and emails not answered. Main phone number had an answering machine.
Dear John S, Could you please share your booking details to our support email [email protected]. We know these rental companies had availability issues during the holidays last year and we refund all reservation not honored by our partners. If you have not been refunded yet please contact us and we will get your money back the same day. Thank you GRC Customer Services
Really poor service and concerning way of working. I booked a car for 10 weeks time in Lanzarote for one week and had it confirmed on their website. Next day they cancelled the booking and when I called their answer was that the company didnt have the car I ordered although it was a pretty basic car. I found that difficult to understand as the booking is in 10 weeks time. Not sure if there is anything esle going on her
Booked a car hire through this company who are a third party agent for various car rental companies. I selected Budget car rental with GotRentalCars Gold upgrade for a reasonable price. However on arrival to pick up the car Budget had no record of this upgrade (free tank of fuel and 3 drivers). They were kind enough to show the booking and it was as they said even though my email said differently. They kept a copy of the email hoping their system would update itself at some point prior to my return but sadly nothing changed. I ended up out of pocket for the fuel I had used and the payment for the upgrade I never got. BTW Budget were excellent as usual and find no fault with them regarding this (having used them a number of times in the past I always have had great service from them!). I have emailed the customer service team but at this time have had no response and am not holding my breathe for a partial refund - I hope this review will go someway to moving potential customers elsewhere for their car hire needs...
Very bad company to deal with you can never get in contact with them once you book a car they take your money and that's it it takes weeks to get an email back I booked a car through them and it changes then to bsp auto then who are in France anyway I paid for the car with insurance I had to collect the car off thrifty in fuerteventura Airport.
That's another bad company to deal with who proceeded to tel me after an early morning flight I had no insurance and would not take our email I received from this dodgy company bsp auto said I must pay a further 224 euro for insurance and would not give us a car until we paid this money I was onto bsp auto they said I took out the insurance its nothing to do with them so it's all a big scam they have going the car for 2 weeks in July 23 cost me about 550euro so take my advice and use a reputable company when booking a car I could have rented a nice suv for then money this cost and it wasn't a nice car I got either
Hi all. We've booked a rental car in February 2023 using Check24 comparison portal. Gotrentalcars (owned by BSP Group) was the provider for Europcar, Pick up location was Frankfurt Airport, drop off Pforzheim in March 2023.
At pick up the Europcar staff told us Gotrentalcars did not transfer the full amount of the lease. So we had to pay the difference of EUR 190 otherwise we wouldn't get the car. OK after a 25 hour flight from AUS you bite the bullet, just to go on with your travel. But we complaint immediately and tried to get an explanation on the same day with Check24 and Gotrentalcars. We have never received a reply or explanation on our emails from Gotrentalcars. Check 24 however confirmed, that Gotrentalcars should have transferred the total lease to Europcar and we would have only to pay the one-way fee at pick up, which we knew about in advance. It took us 4 month and several emails and follow ups with Check24 to finally get our refund.
Summary: Our experience with Gotrentalcars (BSP) - hands off. They are in our opinion a dreadful company. Customer service is a joke. We will never ever book again with them. Would like to give them - ZERO stars
If negative stars could be "awarded" that would be a more correct score.
I thought I'd gotten this great price from GotRentalCars.com, but BUYER BEWARE!
My initial auto rental search used the consolidator AutoRentals.com, which has proven very reliable over MANY years, but they have screwed up by allowing GotRentalCars.com into their subcontractors.
Apparently GotRentalCars.com sub-subcontracts to less than reliable smaller companies. My particular case happened in Miami, when GotRentalCars subcontracted to Fly N Drive, and huge problems ensued.
Upon arrival at Fly N Drive's questionable (and shared cramped office,) provisions that were NOT online in the Terms and Conditions I'd read online popped up as I filled out paperwork for the rental car. The agent at Fly N Drive would NOT give me written copies of the "exclusions and limitations" I was supposed to be signing in agreement! I specifically asked for copies of the verbal statements he was making, and he said "I can't do that." HELLO! And the statements he was making were NOT in the Fly N Drive terms I read online (and saved screenshots...) Unbelievable. (My sister was there as we became more and more suspicious, and she'll gladly corroborate this account.)
Despite purchasing coverage via the connection between GotRentalCars and RentalCover.com, Fly N Drive wanted me to buy THEIR insurance. If I didn't buy their own insurance, then I had to put a $4000 deposit on my credit card! The GotRentalCars T&C's don't quite explain this, either. I was NOT attempting to use my own car insurance for this, nor was I attempting to use the coverage provided by my credit card, as I normally do with international auto rental agencies.
I refused to take the car after also finding out that I could NOT take it out of the state. LOL! The final blow.
I got reassurances from Fly N Drive that the whole transaction was nullified. The next day, when I called GotRentalCars, com, I got the same VERBAL response, not to worry, full refunds would be in order.
GotRentalCars issued a refund to my credit card for the rental. Despite paying for the insurance coverage via GotRentalCars, RentalCover.com refused to issue the insurance refund. Here's where the ridiculous argument started, GotRentalCars told me I'd have to contact RentalCover.com, and upon doing so, RentalCover.com responded (never any HUMAN via telephone!) that the whole refund had to be done via GotRentalCars.com! Ludicrous! Sending me in circles with no resolution, NOTHING. (And YES, when I hit a brick wall with RentalCover.com, because they ONLY have a website and no customer service telephone contact number, nor any email contact, nothing, I called GotRentalCars.com again, and they had NO SOLUTION.)
I settled the whole thing by providing copious documentation to my credit card company (thank you, Capital One) and at this point, they're even investigating fraud and reporting the incidents to the Better Business Bureau.
Cap One has issued full refunds for the auto rental as well as the insurance, but these are tenuous as they review the 30-40 documents I've submitted.
If you're planning to use this company, make sure you DOCUMENT everything so your credit card company might be able to get your money back when things go wrong!
I rented a car for Denver and it went very smoothly at the counter. The rate was the best I could find and the Fox agent hooked me up with an upgrade
I used this site to book a car rental for my trip in PR. It was the best price available. I received a voucher explaining it all. It went smooth at the counter. I will use again
When we arrived in French sector Geneva, the Alamo desk was shut despite being able to book this time with GotRenalCars. Thi smeant an expensive night in a hotel in Geneva for the 5 of us. Of course, cannot get hold of anyone eith at Alamo or GotRentalCars. Next morning claimed that booking was no longer valid and could only have much smaller car. Rude and unhelpful. No way to get help. The review I gave in response to their remail requesting feedback suggested that someone would contact be shortly - over two weeks later and no further forward. Don't use them.
This company will take some beating as the worst out there! DO NOT USE! BEWARE, No answer when you phone them, No Customer support, No Help, Absolutely 100% PISS POOR YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED. PLEASE Take my WARNINGS AS IM TRYING TO HELP OTHERS! DO NOT USE SAVE YOUR MONEY.
I rented a car with this company, I prepaid it. At pick up the rental company (Budget) couldn't find the booking. I had to rent another car for 3 times the amount I booked before. Budget tried to call the company, but nobody picked up the phone, we tried the USA number and the European number several times. Also on email they don't respond. Now the rental has cost me 1700€ for 6 days, a simple car! After several complaints, still no respond! Never rent with this company. It's really a shame!
In October 2021 I booked a car in Las Vegas for June/July 2022 - with free cancellation. The cost, 970 pounds, was due to be taken from my credit card around 18 June. However, I discovered that the money was taken immediately. I cancelled the booking, but my money was not refunded! I telephoned 30+ times but each time it went to voicemail. Leaving messages was a waste of time. I also sent 14 emails without response. Eventually, I was refunded by my credit card provider. Avoid at all costs!
Was scammed and there is absolutely no way of getting in touch to receive a refund. This should be all you need to know- if you can't get through on the phone and there is no email... they have something to hide. They'll take your money upfront and you MAY get lucky but there are so many problems designed to catch you out and if you ever get charged too much, are unable to pick up the car or have the wrong card etc. you'll never see or hear from them again. True story. Just don't. Actual criminals.
