I work in healthcare and a lot of hours per week, so I don't always have time to eat healthy. I love that the meals are high protein, relatively low calorie and made with fresh ingredients.
I'm trying this service for the second time. It was advertised as having new and better meals. Honestly, everything seems the same. In my opinion, there are too many chicken dishes. It's ok food and not horribly expensive when the convenience is factored in. Portions are on the small side, asparagus is always tough woody and often inedible. Pork chop was good the first time but the next two meals were very chewy and dry. Steak size seem to varies greatly from week to week. Pasta dishes are the most consistent and pretty good. I haven't tried any of the egg meals as it seems too expensive for a breakfast. I was hoping that the taste was really improved but I can't find a difference. Still, it gives me a couple of days off from the kitchen and that does count in my world. I really wanted to be wowed this time around but it's status quo. If you want to try a new meal, you may not have time to taste it before you have to have your next order in.
Thank you for your review and feedback, Gale! I'm sorry to hear that our meals did not live up to your expectations. I sent you a quick private message, and I hope I will be able to assist you further!
I have enjoyed every dish. There is a decent variety, but many of the dishes are too high in carb for my diet. I try to aim for less than 20g carbs, less than 20g of fat, while still getting more than 40g of protein. There are a couple dishes (literally 2) that meet these criteria: chicken parm with broccoli, and herb chicken with kale and spaghetti squash cakes. Unfortunately, that later is not available anymore.
I understand that not all people aim for low carb/low fat/ high protein, so I have a suggestion to make all customers happy:
Sell the sides and protein separately. So, if you're on the 9 meal/week subscription, then you pick 9 sides and 9 proteins.
For example: This would allow the flexibility to pick steak + cauliflower mash, or steak + spaghetti squash cakes, or steak + broccoli, instead of forcing everyone that wants steak to get a side mashed potatoes.
Thank you for the consideration!
Thank you for your review, Nicole. That is wonderful feedback! I will pass it along to our R&D Team. I can assure you that we are working to add more low-carb options to our menu, as well as the ability to select between different side dishes!
Great service, enjoyed what I've had so far. I wish there was a little more variety in the meals, I feel like some are a little too close to each other in texture and taste. Would maybe like to see some Asian or Indian dishes added. I'm also really missing the seafood risotto one, it was delish!
Thank you for your feedback and review, Michael. I also miss the Seafood Risotto! Our chefs are working to add more variety to our menu as we continue to grow. I hope we can serve you some new meals in the near future!
Freshly is so convenient but we would love to have more options. We end up ordering the same meals every week. Need more variety please! Also, we don't like the carrots in the Bolognese, but we realize that is more of a personal preference :)
Thank you for your feedback and review, Leslie! I can assure you that we are working vigorously to offer more meals and variety in our menu. I hope we will be able to offer some more selections for you very soon!
UPDATED REVIEW: Freshly contacted me after reading my old review and offered a 50% refund, which I appreciated. I still had to partially pay for meals I didn't want but what can I say? It was better than nothing. They were very cordial and nice to me, and also apologized, which was also greatly appreciated.
Because of this gesture, I will reconsider recommending freshly to other people.
OLD REVIEW:
1) Food was okay, mushy, and lacking flavor. Did not stay fresh by the 3rd day. Don't trust that expiration date.
2) Customer Service thumbs down. Missed the skip deadline by just a few hours, wrote them right away (same day of deadline) and they told me they couldn't help me. Right! Somehow I doubt they were cooking my meals between when I wrote them and when they responded. It's clear my food hadn't been prepared yet or shipped. Money-grubbing. No sense of accommodation. Cancelled immediately afterward.
Thank you for your review, and update, Lorelei! I apologize again for the confusion with the nature of our service, but I'm glad I was able to help resolve this for you!
I order four meals (minimum) through their initial sign-up offer. For the past few weeks I have tried Blue Apron and Plated and been happy with both - and thought that Freshly would be a fine alternative when time is short! What I got was four small meals in plastic trays that I could have picked up at the grocery store for a third of the cost. Each meal was loaded in saturated fat, trans-fat and sodium - and the taste was no great shakes. I immediately cancelled my subscription.
Thank you for your feedback, Jeffrey. I'm so sorry to hear, of course, that you didn't care for the meals! We are a paleo-inspired diet that utilizes healthy fats (think eggs, coconut oil, avocado oil) for numerous health benefits while avoiding the scary, detrimental ones (think french fries, pizza).
Although our meals do arrive in BPA and chemical free plastic containers, we do provide directions to heat the meals on a plate, or in an oven!
I had a billing issue and John P. Did some great digging to find everything on your end and resolve it super smoothly.
Thank you for your review, Ilya!
Best healthy frozen food ever. I love the flavor and the most tasty food I've ever had. I love the quality.
Thank you for your review, Lourdes!
I have recieved 6 meals each week for the last month. Some of my favorites have included the southwest chicken bowl, the meatloaf, and the Cod exclamation point
Thank you for your review, Becky! I'm glad you're enjoying the meals!
Service has been as promised. Would like to see a little more variety in the offerings week to week - particularly in some low carb options. Would also be willing to have some more premium options with an upcharge if that were possible
Thank you for your review and feedback, Paul! Currently, we base our meals loosely on Paleo and low carb principles, and avoid processed, high-glycemic (sugary) carbs. We will definitely be adding some more truly low-carb options, which I hope you will love, very soon!
Freshly has been a great addition to my daily life since I don't cook I now have meals to eat each day after work.
Thank you for your review, Mitzi. That's wonderful to hear that the meals have made your dinner plans much easier!
I am currently in a weight loss/ healthy eating scenario and having these meals with all the accompanying nutrition info is fabulous. I use them 80% for lunch and 20% for dinner. My only complaint is that many of them have too high a fat content (over 20+) so it does limit my choices
Thank you for your feedback and review, Curt! I'm happy to hear that you are enjoying the meals. Luckily, our meals are usually high in healthy fats, which isn't as detrimental as the "scary fats" in items like french fries, and pizza. But we are always working to add meals that fit our customers dietary preferences-- hopefully we will have some more lower fat meals you will love very soon!
Freshly Rocks! I'm fixing to $#*! on all the other reviews. Yes it tastes, "bland and tastless". But add some pepper and cayenne you'll be good as $#*!! #knowyourspices
I'm too busy to whip up my own creations but freshly is pretty close to what I'd make myself. Great job freshly!
Thank you for your review, Jaz! I'm happy to hear that you are enjoying the meals and service!
First - it's not fresh! It's sent in fedex. The food is raw and some of them very bland. And when I wrote to them, sorry - didn't like it and I am ready to send the remaining boxes - they said they donot refund! Even though on the website they say customer satisfaction guaranteed! Horrible services and then also charged me for next week and I had to send them malls to cancel the subscription!
Food was not good. Customer service is awful. I did not receive one email regarding skip. Substituted eggs for a fish item. Sent me an email that I changed my order. Response back was we substituted the eggs since we discontinued other item. I do not like eggs. I always ordered dinners and they subsititute something that I have never ordered and breakfast item. They would not cancel or change order. I threw way most of last order. I had no interest in eating food since it was soggy and bland. Buyer beware.
I’m so sorry to hear that you did not care for the meals, Sharon! Our Meal Planner would only switch out meals if a previous selection was no longer available. However, our customers can make changes to the meals, skip the week, or even cancel their subscription!
We simply require that these actions are taken by the weekly deadline which is outlined in the welcome email, weekly reminder emails, and on Meal Planner pages. I’m afraid that at the time of you reaching out to us, our specialists were no longer able to edit or pull the order from our production schedule.
We don't mean to be difficult by sticking to our deadlines, we simply need to maintain the most efficient production process that we can, since we prepare and ship tens of thousands of meals each week.
I live in a senior apartment building, 100 units. I ordered the "One week off" menus, 6 meals for $39.00. I shared some of my meals with other tenents and several of us were going to order, I discovered Freshly was sending me a second weeks meals I had not ordered, I emailed not to send them. They did. When I asked for a refund of the 2nd weeks charge Freshly refused, but charged me the $39.00 fee again. I am 81 years old and on a very low fixed income. I will say most people liked you meals, for somr the salt a carbohydrates are too high, however a number of us were going to order. We did not understand one weeks order ment one was to continue indefinitely.
This refusal to grant a refund is a poor business decision. No one from here will order from you and I will report you to the Better Businea Bureau
I'm so very sorry for the confusion, Patricia! All of our plans are set up as weekly recurring orders, per the ordering process, checkout, Terms, and initial confirmation email. But customers can skip weeks as needed or even cancel.

Signed up with hope that the food would be good, it was not. They bait and switched meals on the second week when i forgot to cancel then Customer Service never responded. AVOID, BAD FOOD, Worse CUSTOMER SERVICE AND BUSINESS PRACTICES!

I just sent you a private message, so I can investigate further on my end as to why you did not receive an email response from our team. I look forward to hearing from you!
Got my first order and I gotta say I'm very disappointed. Everything we've had so far has been bland, tasteless and not very good. You could get similar tasting meals by Marie Calendars for less than half the price, and without the need for a weekly plan.
Thank you for your feedback, Derek. I'm so sorry to hear, of course, that you didn't care for the meals! I can assure you that as we continue to grow we are working to better our meals.
I fell for the $30 introductory rate. Lesson learned.
My first meal, the seafood risotto, was so fishy as to be inedible. It also made me wonder about the food handling protocolsthe fishy smell was VERY strong.
Be forewarned: They will sign you up for the next week less than 24 hours after the sample delivery arrives (because of course their target demographic of single people will be able to form an opinion during that time, right?). They cancelled my account quickly upon request but insist that there is nothing to be done about next week's shipment, which contains meals I didn't choose and in some cases cannot eat. The literature says Freshly donates excess meals to local food banks but evidently that's not an option in this case.
A small thing, after being taken for a ride on meals that will go straight into the trash: The shipping material is pretty awful. It's environmentally friendly only if you disassemble it, which includes squeezing a gel out of its recyclable plastic bag. Unpleasant and overly complicated.
I'm so sorry to hear, of course, that you didn't care for the meals. We take any issues concerning food taste, quality, and safety with the utmost seriousness and the greatest concern. The seriousness with which we take these issues can only be compared to the rarity with which they happen. Your health and well-being are first and foremost in our minds - and, of course, is why we're in business to begin with. I will be sure to pass along this information to our Quality Assurance Team, as well, for further review.

We do our best to reduce our environmental impact as much as possible. Our boxes are recyclable, as are the plastic meal containers and cardboard sleeves. The recycled denim insulation is largely biodegradable, and the gel ice packs are non-toxic, and the plastic bags for them are recyclable. We're always looking for new ideas/products to help even more!
Answer: Hi Marc, Thanks for your inquiry! At this time we change one meal per week, typically. We will either remove an item and replace with something new, update the recipe on a current item or just add an item without removing one. As we continue to grow we will have plans to offer even more variety as well!
Answer: Hi Steven, Thank you for your interest in Freshly! We are a weekly subscription service, so you would be charged for, and delivered meals on a weekly basis. However, you can select to skip weeks, or cancel your subscription at anytime! These changes would just need to be made prior to your weekly deadline, which is outlined in your Welcome Email, Reminder Emails, and in your Meal Planner. I hope this helps!
Answer: Our meals are prepared and shipped out from our kitchen in Phoenix.:-) For Arizona deliveries we use FedEx.
Answer: The delivery window they give us is between 9am and 9pm. We package the meals to be safe for 2 days transit time, plus safe to sit outside for up to 12 hours upon delivery.:-)
Answer: Hi Nancy! We do not cook meals based on other programs' guidelines at this time. We're not overly concerned with calorie counts, but more concerned with where calories come from. Our meals are generally high protein, high healthy fat, low carb, low sugar. We use unprocessed ingredients free from hormones or added sugars, and never use chemical preservatives. Please let me know if I can answer any other questions at this time!
Answer: Hi Shawn W, That doesn't sound right! Please reach us at [email protected] so we can take a closer look at this!
Answer: Hi Joyce, Thank you so much for reaching out to us here at Freshly! I'd like to apologize for the delayed response! First and foremost, I'd like to inform you that we're a weekly subscription service, which means you'll receive meals weekly, and get charged weekly as well. Here are the steps to follow while signing up: 1 - Add your email address and zip code in the sign-up box on our homepage. ( www.Freshly.com) 2 - Pick your meal plan. Just keep in mind that our meals have a shelf life of about 5 days unless frozen. 3 - Pick your delivery day from the available dates! The specific day of the week will be your weekly delivery day unless changed. 4 - Select your delicious meals from our 30+ selections. 5 - Add your contact info, payment details, and delivery address.
Answer: Hi Gayle, Thank you for reaching out to us here at Freshly! You can certainly reheat our meals in a conventional oven, however, our current meal containers are not safe for the oven or stove-top, so you'll have to transfer your food to heat it up. First, preheat your oven to 350° F. Transfer your food to an oven-safe dish (don't forget to scrape the sauce out of the tray!) and cover the top in tin foil. Heat for 25-35 minutes, remove foil, and let sit 3-5 minutes, then transfer to your choice of plate or bowl and enjoy! (Keep in mind, heating times are approximate. You'll want to reheat the meal to an inner temperature of 165° F.)
Answer: Hi Angela, Thank you for reaching out to us here at Freshly! We use third-party carriers for our deliveries, such as FedEx in her area! We can deliver Tuesday-Saturday in Southern Illinois--deliveries can occur between 8am-9pm depending on the carriers route for the day. While carrier delays are out of the norm, weather-related issues, road closures, driver confusion, etc. can wreak havoc. We have a dedicated delivery team that works directly with our carriers to ensure successful deliveries, and we're always sure to compensate when delays arise. We certainly hope this helps! To view a list of currently available deliveries, you can enter your zip code at www.freshly.com!
Answer: I've been getting mine in on time, but I assume as with all packages going through USPS, UPS, and FedEx right now, things have been backed up since COVID and only getting worse. So it's not Freshly's fault even if they aren't delivered on time.
