I tried Freshly for two weeks, after the first week when 3 of the 4 meals were pretty bad I thought I would give the service another chance. The second weeks's meals were awful, bland, overcooked and just bad. I wasn't able to eat Evan 1/2 of any of the meals. Needless to say I cancelled the service.
I tried to upload a photo of the meal I tried this evening but wasn't able to on my iPad.
My husband and I love Freshly. Reading many horrible reviews listed here, taste, small portions... If you eat large unhealthy portions then this is Not for you. Stick to Marie Callender's or McDonald's. We both work long days, hit the gym several times a week and choose wisely off the menu. Helps with portion control and over eating late night after working a long day. Sometimes pair up with a salad and it's plenty.
We have been with them for about a year. Customer service is excellent if you go thru the Freshly app, immediate chat help with a representative. Never once had an issues. I have had to change my delivery dates, not a problem once in a new cycle. Change may take one to two deliveries for the new day since it is all cycled. We have had deliveries Wednesdays and now moved to Sundays. Food is packaged to last 48+ hrs in transit and about 12 at your doorstep. We live in Southern CA, some areas might not have flexibility on choosing delivery days. Thus the bad reviews.
We have turned others onto this service as well, all very happy. The food is tasty for sure for what it is. This is also not a five star restaurant so be mindful.
After trying Sun Basket (loved, but I work very late to come home and cook), Thistle, Catered Fit and Icon Meals this service had the better overall options and taste for out lifestyle.

My wife and I THOUGHT that Freshly would be a nice choice for meals. Signed up for 12 meal plan last week, was supposed to receive our first order on Friday. On Tuesday, received email that order had shipped, along with a UPS tracking #. Turns out tracking # was scam- package NEVER given to UPS. Friday comes- NO package. Tried to call Freshly customer service- was LIED to about delivery status- told that UPS had the package, but I have account w/UPS and can tell when ANYTHING will be delivered to our address. Nothing in system. Asked to speak to a supervisor/manager, told that none available, but one would call us back. NO calls received.
Called CSR again on Saturday, asked to speak to supervisor, given SAME song and dance- one would call back. Did receive an email later in afternoon, saying someone had "tried" to call- but no calls on caller ID, we were home all day. Again, LIED to!
Did receive a "promise" that we would receive refund- will wait and see if that happens.
Not sure if meals are good or not - did not receive. Maryland processing plant for Freshly is less than 2 hours drive, and we live in major city, so delivery should NOT be a problem.
Poor/non existent customer service. Less than honest. CSRs refuse to provide contact info. They tried to blame UPS as problem, but could not provide tracking info. Order obviously NOT shipped!
Hi Dave, thanks so much for taking the time to review us. I'm saddened to hear of the troubles with your very first delivery and I can assure you this is definitely out of the norm! We want all our customers to have the best experience from start to finish.
With that said, the carriers are experiencing lots of delays due to the holidays being right around the corner! This means a larger influx of packages, in addition to winter weather and even local factors. Because of this, some packages aren't getting scanned in but still going out for delivery. While I can't say for certain what happened, our Delivery Team is actively working with all our delivery partners so we can get ahead of any issues. Of course, we're always sure to compensate when delays do arise!
I truly can't apologize enough for this situation, Dave, but I'd like to take a closer look at the order to see what happened and what I can do to make this right. After trying this service for 2 weeks I cancelled it. The food is not good. Too much sodium and that is a problem if you have certain health issues, and still is even if you don't. Those are small portions, therefore it feels thise are overpriced because you are better off just buying an actual fresh sandwich for the same price at your local deli. The only option of heating up these messy looking meals given is microwave. That is not terribly healthy either. I suspect some reviews glorifying this service here to keep the stars up are not real.

As a little background, we create our menu around nutrient-dense veggies, high-quality proteins, and healthy fats, and season our meals using sea salt, herbs, and spices. We never use flavor enhancers or other artificial ingredients that can drive unhealthy levels of sodium.
The sodium in our meals is a combo of sodium that’s naturally occurring in the ingredients themselves (a medium carrot has about 50 mg of sodium alone!), and a mineral-dense sea salt that we use to season our meals. I just tried my first meal and was disappointed. Small portion for the cost and nothing spectacular. I like the premade feature, but I can get similar items at my grocer's for less cost per serving.

I really wanted to like this service. My meals have all arrived on time and as ordered. The problem is they don't taste good. I cook with spiced and seasoning but like to enhance the flavor of the food not over power it. These meals must be made for people with impaired taste buds. Just not what I was hoping for.

We believe in a modern approach to health that includes eating real, whole foods. Our meals are created around incorporating nutrient-dense veggies, high-quality proteins, and healthy fats into balanced meals that are both wholesome and tasty (because food that’s good for you should taste good, too!). We have a banned ingredients list for our meals, which includes artificial ingredients, refined sugar, hydrogenated oils, and never frozen!

I hate cooking and this meal service is a savior. I used to order from Sun Basket which was great but still required me to cook. Do I think this is the best food in the world? Of course not, they're microwave meals. Does it save me tons of time and hassle and taste pretty good? Absolutely! Not sure about all the reviews saying the food tasted awful. I haven't had a single meal that I didn't enjoy. Plus, they're constantly adding new options (including seasonal) and all their meals are gluten free which is HUGE for someone who doesn't eat gluten. I don't have to spent any time going through their options trying to pick out the one or two GF meals. I had a 10$ discount for my first 5 orders and thought I'd cancel after I used it up, but now I'm hooked.

I enjoyed Freshly very much! However, I am away from home most weekends, and by the time I get home, the meals were melted, and had to be thrown away because they are delivered on Saturdays.
I contacted Freshly by phone and asked them if they could please change deliveries to Monday. The woman I spoke with said yes, and gave me an effective date, but Freshly continued to deliver on Saturdays beyond the effective date. After two weekends of throwing my deliveries away, I was forced to cancel. It's very unfortunate.
What's more, when I wrote to Freshly with my explanation for cancelling (and suggesting how to remedy the situation), they just went ahead and cancelled me, never seeming to want to budge from Saturday deliveries.
So, if you're not home many weekends, DON'T get Freshly! From my experience, they can't (or are unwilling to) alter the dates.
Hi Henry, thanks so much for taking the time to review our service! I'm so sorry for any troubles with the delivery day, though I'm happy to help with this. From my understanding, it sounds like we were able to make the switch to Mondays, however, the change does need a few weeks to take effect due to factors like kitchen availability and carrier capacity. Of course, once you get on those Monday deliveries, that would be permanent and you're more then welcome to skip weeks until you're able to receive the desired delivery day.

The food is good. Favs are the Califlower pasta bolognese, Sausage penne, chicken tikki Marsala, smoky pork Cubano bowl. The portions are on the small side, but i'm going with learning how to manage portion control and this is a life lesson. At 450 - 550 calories for dinner, microwaves in 2.5 to 3.5 minutes. It is a no brainer... variety, healthy food, fresh, not frozen.
I'm down 12.5 lbs in 5 weeks - you can add your own side salad or protein shake. To dinner without adding many calories. The best part is i don't have to think about it, pick meal, heat and eat. I 'm not weighing food, counting calories, or eating rabbit food. Dinner is about 500 calories, I eat my normal healthy option for Breakfast and lunch, after a long day at work and the gym, dinner is ready in 5 minutes. Large selection, Rotating items, if you don't like something, don't order it again ( you do the same thing in a restaurant). I do not feel deprived, Recommended

Although delivery and packaging was excellent, the food was terrible. A cook would have to be TRYING to made food this bad. Canceled after two weeks - inedible.

I ordered 4 meals. I ate about a third of two of them and fed the rest to the crows. The other two went directly to the crows The taste of them was very off putting and horrible. I only wish I had done more research before ordering. What a waste of money!

The packaging and insulation is awesome. We ordered 6 meals to try this, everyone selected an entrée, ordered them and received them timely. We each had our favorite and tried it for dinner the first night it was received. The meals taste weird. The choice of seasonings and spices are just not what you would expect in the entrees. Not one person could get past 2 bites. We each tried each others food to make sure no one was being overly picky and we all agreed and tossed the food. What a waste of food and huge waste of my hard earned money. Never again.

I order out every night for dinner from various restaurants throughout the area. I thought this would be a good alternative for me. Was really disappointed at the small portions. In no way could one of their meals feed one adult and I don't eat very much. Normally when I order out from a restaurant I get two meals out of it. They're generous with the fresh vegetables. Their pepper steak gives you a sliver of steak. Their chicken is probably one quarter of a chicken breast. Was not terribly disappointed with the taste of the food however the portions aren't terribly discouraging and I cancelled right away

Would not recommend this company! I guess my expectations were way higher than it should! This is the case when you get what you paid for! If you on the market of something REAALLLLYYYYY cheap, like reallllyyyy poor and cheap, this is the type of your food, it does not cost much, they deliver it on time! Food just terrible all around. My wife did not feel good after eating one. I thought it was just her, one out of all was more or less okay! Steak that I thought will be at least normal, even that, I had stomach ache for hours! Same with some other things I ate, all around not worth it! Plus worst thing! Right after my first order, I cancelled my subscription and still 6 days later today Im getting confirmation that my order is on the way! THEY SET YOU UP WITH AUTOMATIC SHIPMENT FOR SAME EXACT FOOD! TOTALLY STUPID ABOSLUTELY NOT WORTH IT! FOOD IS GARBAGE! AS WELL AS COMPANY!

It sounds like the subscription was cancelled after we successfully charged you for the last delivery, since we were not made aware to cancel the delivery it was still scheduled in our system. Also, if no meal changes are made before you deadline, the system will automatically assign you the meals from your previous order. Whatever the case may be, we definitely want to make this right!

Not only did my food not show up - but they knew it dud not ship out and did not contact me. Then, I had to call because no one reached out the day it should have arrived.
No offer to make things right. Then they were dumb enough to send an email after I. Was told I was not getting a delivery, telling me it was arriving today - when it wasn't.

It's never our intention to not have your meals arrive as scheduled, and we do everything we can to prevent any disruptions. While carrier delays are out of the norm, weather-related issues, road closures, driver confusion, etc. can always play a factor!

I liked freshly (food was decent enough to pay for the convenience) until two weeks ago. I moved into a new apartment only 20 minutes from my old one (not a major location change) and suddenly for two weeks my orders just have not arrived and Lasership, the delivery company, falsely writes that the package has been delivered.
Trust me, no one in my building wants to steal my box of food (i live in a very nice building). Are the people from lasership enjoying my weekly meals?
This is unacceptable. I was given a credit (for two weeks in a row) but after that I will be stopping my orders because this is absurd.

I've enjoying Freshly for a few months now and have to say they have exceeded my expectations. The meals arrive fully cooked and kept cool in a well-insulated box with earth-friendly gel packs to keep them at a refrigerated temperature. They can go right into your fridge for later or pop one in the microwave for.

Horrible customer service from frehsly. My first order was delivered on time and I enjoyed the meals. Small meals but was planning on continuing the service. Second box said delivered but they never got it on my lobby. I reached out to customer service and they responded with the tracking. I followed up with them multiple times for a week and still no response from them. I've asked what is the best way to reach them and still no response. Completely unprofessional. Will never order from them again. This review might be the only way to get a response from them...

We will either remove an item and replace with something new, update the recipe on a current item or just add an item without removing one. As we continue to grow we will have plans to offer even more variety as well!

However, you can select to skip weeks, or cancel your subscription at anytime! Answer: Our meals are prepared and shipped out from our kitchen in Phoenix.:-) For Arizona deliveries we use FedEx.
Answer: The delivery window they give us is between 9am and 9pm. We package the meals to be safe for 2 days transit time, plus safe to sit outside for up to 12 hours upon delivery.:-)
Answer: Hi Nancy! We do not cook meals based on other programs' guidelines at this time. We're not overly concerned with calorie counts, but more concerned with where calories come from. Our meals are generally high protein, high healthy fat, low carb, low sugar. We use unprocessed ingredients free from hormones or added sugars, and never use chemical preservatives. First and foremost, I'd like to inform you that we're a weekly subscription service, which means you'll receive meals weekly, and get charged weekly as well. Here are the steps to follow while signing up: 1 - Add your email address and zip code in the sign-up box on our homepage. ( www.Freshly.com) 2 - Pick your meal plan. Just keep in mind that our meals have a shelf life of about 5 days unless frozen. 3 - Pick your delivery day from the available dates! The specific day of the week will be your weekly delivery day unless changed. 4 - Select your delicious meals from our 30+ selections. 5 - Add your contact info, payment details, and delivery address.

You can certainly reheat our meals in a conventional oven, however, our current meal containers are not safe for the oven or stove-top, so you'll have to transfer your food to heat it up. First, preheat your oven to 350° F. Transfer your food to an oven-safe dish (don't forget to scrape the sauce out of the tray!) and cover the top in tin foil. Heat for 25-35 minutes, remove foil, and let sit 3-5 minutes, then transfer to your choice of plate or bowl and enjoy! (Keep in mind, heating times are approximate. You'll want to reheat the meal to an inner temperature of 165° F.)

We can deliver Tuesday-Saturday in Southern Illinois--deliveries can occur between 8am-9pm depending on the carriers route for the day. While carrier delays are out of the norm, weather-related issues, road closures, driver confusion, etc. can wreak havoc. We have a dedicated delivery team that works directly with our carriers to ensure successful deliveries, and we're always sure to compensate when delays arise. We certainly hope this helps! Answer: I've been getting mine in on time, but I assume as with all packages going through USPS, UPS, and FedEx right now, things have been backed up since COVID and only getting worse. So it's not Freshly's fault even if they aren't delivered on time.
