Terrible customer service and an office that looked like the company was fleeing prosecution. When I purchased my flightcar for a 6-day rental, I was told that I would be picked up curbside at LAX. When I arrived, I received 4 confusing emails and texts -- some telling me to call to be picked up at the curb and others telling me that I would have to lug my bags to the airport shuttle, and then be dropped off at an "outside location." I was then taken to an abandoned parking lot on 96th street to await a "black car" to pick me up -- and with no further description, I got into the wrong car! When I later had a death in my family, I returned the car after only 2.5 days, and then refused to refund me more than $60 out of $280. BEWARE.

My boyfriend and I were very happy with the FlightCar-concept BEFORE we actually tried it.
We had booked a new sedan for a two week roadtrip this summer. When we arrived at the airport in San Fran to pick up our car there was complete chaos. The offered us a huge gas-guzzling truck from 2004 instead of what we had actually booked. We were planning on driving a lot of miles, so a truck was not an option for us financially. They simply did not have the car that we booked!
The manager at FlightCar in San Francisco Airport was very sorry but could not do anything to help us. After a very long discussion he offered to cancel the reservation and drive us to a different rental company where we could rent a car. After pushing very hard he also agreed that FlightCar could pay part of the insurance since the rental car company charged a lot more, than what we had planned to pay through flightcar. We spent a whole afternoon on this which was annoying since we only had limited time for the roadtrip.
After our holiday we waited for the reimbursements from FlightCar. They did not come. I contacted the manager at FlightCar in San Francisco Airport multiple times through email. He did not respond. We tried at least three times before contacting FLightCar support. Luckily we had a confirmation-email from the manager that we would get the reimbursements.
Now, more than 3 months after our trip I have still not received the full reimbursement. Even though costumer support has been fast at replying, friendly and apologetic I am still feeling insure that we will ever get our money back.
So what can I say? I cannot in any way recommend FlightCar. However, I sincerely hope that they learn from this experience, so that a good concept like theirs can actually be brought to life.

September 13, 2014

CAR RENTER BEWARE! I rented a car from flight car in Boston the car they had for me was a 2003 Honda Civic with 144,000 miles on it The car had no air, a shimmy in it, vibration in front end, car was not clean and had a musty smell to it. I called the company to ask for another car they said their was none available, we were stuck with it.! I will never use this company again, and will advise my friends and family to do the same.

DO NOT RENT FROM FLIGHTCAR! I normally don't write reviews but I had such a nightmarish experience with Flightcar SFO. I needed a rental car for a couple of weeks since I had just moved to SF and was planning to buy a new car. Their business model involves renting cars belonging to owners who leave their cars at the airport. As a result, they cannot guarantee the reliability of the cars. They gave me a Subaru which broke down within hours of driving it. I had to wait by the roadside for 2 hours while they arranged a tow truck to pick me up and tow the car. I could not believe they charged me for gas when clearly I could not refill it. Back at the lot, they gave me a red mustang even though they knew it had an expired registration sticker. That night, I was pulled over by the cops and given a ticket with a court date on it. I called Flightcar the next morning and they said they would take care of it. However when Flightcar called the San Mateo court to find out how to settle the ticket, they were told that only the person on the ticket could inquire. I ended up making several trips to the court and the matter is still not settled. They were unable to reach the owner to obtain the sticker since she was traveling and had left the car there longterm. Because of all the time wasted and aggravation, I was unable to find a new car to buy. They said they would give me 5 extra days initially, then to my surprise and fury, they charged my credit card on file for a $400 late fee. This company is unreliable, unethical, and has no sense of customer service. I have spent more money on this rental than if I would have had I gone with a reputable rental agency - not to mention the incredible amount of aggravation and time wasted. I have never had a worse experience with a company than with Flightcar.

This company SUCKS big time. Avoid them at ALL COSTS.

After calling the company almost daily (since 7/16/14) to get a refund on a car we did not end up renting, we finally received an email today (7/22/14) that they will give us a full refund. However, it is going to take 2 business days for the refund to be processed and to reach our bank account. This in NOT acceptable. This money should have been refunded on 7/16 when we first complained.

It is now not about the money, it's about the disrespect for a paying customer.

Here is our experience:
1.) One month ago, we reserved and pre-paid for 2 cars for our trip to Boston. Besides the car rentals, the company promised to pick us up at the airport and drive us to our rental cars. Sounded like a great deal! However...

2.) Our flights were delayed by several hours so we notified them twice and FlightCar and said "... no problem... we're a 24 hour service...".

3.) When we finally arrived in Boston, we called FlightCar & told them we were ready to be picked up, they said they had already given away our 2 cars and they had reserved 2 cars for us at Hertz.
They also told us we'd have to go to the Hertz car rental place and they would not be picking us up.
They said all costs at Hertz would be covered by what we had already paid in advance
HOWEVER - when we got to Hertz, Hertz said we'd have to pay an additional $65 per day for insurance, or else assume all risks.
We ended up taking only ONE car and asked for a refund. (And HAVE BEEN ASKING almost daily since Wed., 7/16).

4.) The customer service we received was extremely poor. One representative even hung up on us. The biggest issue is that the Customer Service representatives do not have the authority to handle the complaints. They said in order to get a refund, we would have to write directly to the CEO. Not everyone has internet access and the customer representatives SHOULD be able to handle the complaints.

5.) ALSO, the company finally contacted the CEO for us, but he said "NO REFUND". Only after us calling almost daily has the company finally said we'll receive a full refund.

Long story short, we thought we were getting a great deal, with the extra service of being picked up at the airport, but none of the promises were kept. Our cars were given away, we had to go to Hertz and the money we had already paid did not cover the full cost expected at Hertz.

Also, the Customer Service at FlightCar was terrible. This has caused a LOT of stress with having to constantly call FlightCar and has upset the entire family due to the runaround we have been given.

This is David Yoon and I've rented from Flight Car a few times but have referred many of my friends to use the company and also explain to any and all who will listen to me on how wonderful this new company is.
My first experience with Flight Car was at SFO but when I heard that it had expanded to LAX and BOS I was really excited.
Last week was my second time using LAX rental service.
And I am taking the time to personally email you because I love the company and do wish it continues to grow and be successful. And even if things didn't work out last week. I wish to use the company in the future.

1) I called many times to book a luxury car at the LAX rental facility. The 1-866 number did not allow me to be directly connected to LAX but placed me on hold assuring me they will make sure the car would be there. They said they had no luxury cars so I asked about the Coupe 2009-14. They said it was available so I reserved it online paying a total of $210 (for 6 days with upgraded insurance).

2) The morning of my flight, three hours before pick-up, I call 1-866 again to make sure the car is available (in the past they said it was but when I got there it was not). They assured me I would get a 2009-14 Coupe.

3) Pick-up was not too bad after taking a shuttle to Lot C.

4) I arrive at the Flight Car Lot and am given a Civic 2007 4 Door. I am in a hurry so I sign the iPad and leave the parking lot. However, I look at the steering wheel and the paint is peeling from the rubber and it is deformed because it is so old. I pull over in front of Flight Car office and take out the registration to see that it is not a 2009-14. I was ok with it not being coupe but I paid more for a 2009-14 class.

5) I get the worker that gave me the car and he gets upset at me telling me that its the only car they have left. I am confused at his resentment towards me and tell him that I am not trying to argue or complain but just wanted to know if they could give me a discount.

6) The assistant manager now comes out and tells me there is nothing they can do and I have to call the corporate office. So I do. Again 1-866 number. I speak with Kevin and he tells me how sorry he is and he will "REQUEST" a refund. He said to take the car tonight and come back the next day and they will have a 2009-14 ready for me. I told him it's ok I would like to reject the car and get a full refund.

7) After I get off the phone I speak with the Assistant manager and he just goes off in saying how badly the company is organized and how the people at the "Boston" office always works on their own and doesn't know what they are doing.

8) I leave the car and walk to Dollar Car Rental. The wait was 2 hours so I walk over to Avis and I get a 2014 Chevy Impala for $135 and I am out in 15 minutes.

9) I get back from my trip and call Flight Car and they tell me there is no request for a refund. This is why I am emailing you and asking you and telling you... please refund my order and please take care of your company. Did this happen because you expanded too quickly? I hope this company becomes reputable once again.

Thank you for your time.

DISASTER!
January 19, 2014

DISASTER! The worst experience I have ever had. Please do not do what I did and try and help a start up. I wasted a whole day when my car would not start on the return leg waiting for them to tell me how to proceed, missed my flight, had to buy a new return ticket and pay for cabs to the airport and back. They not only did not help me, cost me well over $1,000 for something that had nothing to do with me, but also offered nothing in the way of reimbursement or even sympathy. If that is not bad enough, I also just got reemed with a roadside assistance bill. What road side assistance? You guys never even showed up!

We used Flightcar for parking and airport transportation when going on vacation just prior to Christmas. The actual location is a little obscure. We drove by twice before locating the entrance. The actual business is in a trailer with limited parking making both the drop-off and pick-up a little chaotic as we weren't the only ones doing so at the time. The biggest complaint is payment for the rental. The day after we arrived at our destination I got an e-mail say the car was rented. Upon our return to pick-up the car, we were told a check for early $49 was on the dash. We found no check in the car. The attendant was trying to handle a number of customers at once and said he'd send the check out the next day. We waited more than a week but no check. So I e-mailed Flightcar and did get a reboreply saying I get a response within 24 hours. I waited another week but there was no further response. I sent anoter e-mail so there has been no response period. My advise – if they owe you money, don't leave without it in your hands.

Okay...
December 26, 2013

Okay... said I'd be back. Bumped my rating from 1 Star to 4 Stars. Had I drove my car home, it would have been a 5 Star review. After Flightcar rented my car long term, while availability I offered was short term, Flightcar delivered my car to my home moments ago. It looked better than I'd left it with them - cleaned inside and out. No dents, no dings (although it is quite dark outside), with a full tank of fuel. For the inconvenience, Flightcar also handed me a check for $50. Bottom line - Flightcar delivered as promised. I was a little inconvenienced yes. However, life ain't always perfect. Flightcar made good on their miscue. Here's how it started:

Thought I'd give it a try. Why not? Free airport parking, chance to make a little dough - how much wasn't a concern. In fact, I seriously doubted my car would be rented, as I was only gone for a few days. The day after I dropped it off, I received an email congratulating me that my car HAD been rented. I will admit a bit of "rentee" remorse set in. Lots of crazy thoughts swirl. Add cynical comments from family members who would never share their ride, and it all becomes good fodder.

We arrive back to SFO as scheduled. Flightcar's limo happened to be picking up others at the same time, so the wait was nil. All I'll need to do is pick up my washed and vacuumed ride, check it for any damage, collect my rent check, and head home. But wait... my car is still out. Flightcar thought I'd be away for 10 more days. What $#@!?

They immediately offered me a loaner - someone else's ride. Not sure how that works? Does that rentee get rent? Flightcar told me I could swing by the next day to trade back. Hmmm... that ain't gonna work - I gotta work the next day. Normally I fly out of Oakland, but SFO was the better deal for the flight. Point is, I live a good hour away from SFO, and swinging by the next day to retrieve my car wasn't in my plans.

Flightcar promised instead to deliver my car to my home - much like the airlines will deliver your "lost" bags. So... I have someone's car in front of my home. Someone has my car in front of someone's home, and at some point, it will all get straightened out. When... not exactly sure. I'm waiting for a call.

Believing in karma led me to venture towards Flightcar. I'm hoping instant karma is my fate. I'll do the right thing, and edit this review once the whole story can be told. In the meantime, I'm compelled to post this review. Things aren't always as they appear when looking out that side view mirror...

They suck!
November 11, 2013

They suck! They will take unauthorized money from your account so do not let them have your debit card number. I authorized a one time payment to help someone out and they damn near took all of my money. They said because of that one payment I was responsible for this persons mess. I don't even have a valid drivers license. Stay away

I was impressed by the innovative concept and the staff is nice. We used flight car twice now.

1) The first time was apparently without incident and we were told the car was not rented.

2) The second time, we were again returned the car and told it was not rented. However, when we returned home, we found a receipt for 7-11 and potato chips in the car. My fiancé reported this and it turns out it was rented! We never received any notification and certainly did not receive our payment for them using our car. The management was very apologetic and offered our payment, but it is still very concerning that this happened and we would have never known had we not reported it.

And, now in retrospect, after our first time, I did find an old decomposing fried chicken wing stuffed in the side door pocket - weird since I don't remember eating chicken wings in the car in the past year and certainly would not have stuffed it there for future consumption. I am very suspicious that it could have been rented out before...

I think my fiancé still is willing to use their service, but I think I would rather just pay for a taxi.

This is a neat new service which offers travelers free airport parking in exchange for renting their cars out at much lower prices than traditional rental car companies. In addition to providing free parking, they will wash your car and also compensate you if you car is rented while you're gone. For someone who is always debating the best way to get to the airport (and in need of a car wash), I decided to try them out before going out of town for the weekend.

I was able to schedule a drop off just six hours in advance by calling the service -- the FlightCar website doesn't allow you to make appointments online less than 24 hours in advance. Everything went smoothly in the morning. I was especially impressed by the professionalism of the staff, uniforms and branding given how new the service was. When I got back from my trip, I was pleasantly surprised that they washed my car even though it wasn't rented out. However, the shuttle back from the airport didn't show up for 25 min, which was a little longer than expected.

My experience is pretty limited so far, but I will definitely use them again and see how the experience is when someone actually rents my car. I have also not rented from them yet, but hope to try them out after they expand their locations beyond just San Francisco and Boston.
