Tried on item in store but they did not have item instock...

Tried on item in store but they did not have item instock in my size so was suggested to purchase online while instore. Store had a sale of 20% off which associates did not match when purchasing from the online stock. Still was the lowest price for the color/size I could find so went ahead with the purchase but felt like since I tried the item instore I should have been able to purchase them on sale and have item shipped to the store.
