The company's reputation is marred by significant customer dissatisfaction, primarily stemming from poor customer service and unresolved order issues. Many customers report extensive delays in shipping and inadequate communication regarding their purchases, leading to frustration and a sense of helplessness. Additionally, there are widespread concerns about the platform's reliance on automated systems, which fail to provide effective support for both buyers and sellers. Despite some positive experiences with individual sellers, the overarching sentiment highlights a pressing need for improved transparency and accountability from the company to enhance customer trust and satisfaction.

Stay away from them. If U ever have an issue with the product then I have to mail it to Turkey for HUNDREDS OF $$$$
I lost lots of money not knowing that.
My experience with Etsy was a complete disaster. While I was travelling for two months, they deactivated all my items without letting me know about it. No emails, no internal etsy messages, nothing. When I got back I realized that my shop was empty. I contacted them but apart from a default template messages from four different people I didn't get any answers to my questions. I will be making a complaint to recover the £16 I paid them for nothing. I've lost many hours to build my shop and I regret loosing all that time. If I checked the reviews I'd never use etsy. It was the worst experience I've ever had with a customer services that don't care.
The past two orders I have made from Etsy have been marked as delivered and said they were left on the front porch, but never arrived. I've had to pull teeth to get through and get things settled to either get a replacement or refund. Just be aware that your order may or may not arrive and you might have to jump through hoops to get your money worth/back.
I used to sell on this platform until they stole from me. I had a buyer dispute a purchase, this is fine, and disagreements happen. Within 7 days, Etsy took the money out of my account and refunded the buyer his money without expecting him to return my product back to me. I attempted to contact the buyer both directly by email as well as through the Etsy app multiple times with each communication including a prepaid return label with no luck. Etsy was NO help, so, I escalated things. I filed a police report for theft (see attached) and let him know I was going to consult an attorney & he would be liable for any & all collection expenses, OR, just simply return my stolen merchandise. After threatening civil action, Etsy paid me my money back then promptly cut me off. I sell on Ebay, Mercary & Poshmark as well and have never had this issue. I get returns, and any on-line business will. The difference is all of them require I verify the product made it back to me before they refund the buyer. Just be careful. Etsy is not afraid to take your money, give it to the buyer with ZERO expectations you get your merchandise back. I have tried to upload the police report, but, it wont accept a PDF file?
The seller and I agreed I could return my item by regular mail since I received my item by regular mail, they even told me how much it would cost and not to send through the post office. I used their own packaging and sent a photo to confirm the return. The seller now refuses to honor their agreement so I opened a case with Etsy. Etsy won't refund me because I can't prove the seller received my return. If they bothered to read the conversation between myself and the seller the seller told how to return my item and you can't send a tracked item to a PO Box! What a scam! Way to rip off a person with a disability. They closed my file with no explanation or anything. I guess Etsy let's sellers rip off buyers now.
Shop owner of BGCRAFTCREATIONS was NOT specific on items she was selling! I bought the items believing that they were crochet patterns. She sold 4 stickers for almost $6.00. She replied to me She can't afford to refund my money! I'm on a limited income and she can't afford to return my money but she can STEAL from a customer without hesitation!
I sell on etsy...im closing my shop due to treatment of their sellers, their flagging listings as "drug paraphernalia, when it is obviously in no way, shape or form, title or description not tags remotely even...A JEEP JK Delete plate is now "drug paraphernalia" according to etsy. They then put a 75% reserve on our account without a reason, lets then discuss the piss poor communication level offered to sellers for support,,,no chat no phone...email only...2 days...6days later...get a response ""Hi Sam, thank you for your email earlier this week letting us know about the reserve on your account. Our team is looking into it and will get back to you by Wednesday at the latest."" wednesday came and past, still no response...no way to contact them...we have been etsy sellers for almost 4 years now and well now it is time we part ways Etsy, your measly $32,000/year in sales are a joke just when i compare to our eBay store of consistently $100,000+ year to year over the past 12 years...I offer you a 1 star review, as a ZERO star review is not an available choice. Sadly due to your actions, and more importantly inactions of seller support, Etsy, You lose another seller,
"Unfortunately, my experience with Etsy as a seller was extremely disappointing. I have a silver jewelry business and have been represented on various online platforms, but I have never experienced such disrespectful behavior from customer support. I spent six months trying to register for an account, only to have it suspended shortly after receiving a congratulatory email. Despite sending numerous emails requesting clarification and providing all necessary legal documents and business information, I received no response. As a result, I find it difficult to trust a platform that can block my account and withhold my funds without explanation or communication. It is truly disheartening that such a large company would treat their sellers in such a manner."
Etsy = eBay with cutsie branding. They can hang all the 'Find Something Unique' monikers they like, it's just another trash selling site. Sure, there are the few truly artisan made finds and useful handmade things just like there are on eBay and Amazon, but they have become the few and far between. They are lost in an ocean of 'Handmade' bead on a string jewelers, AI generated art, digital print downloads made from photo's scraped off the internet or last years wall calendar, print on demand shops recycling last years wallpaper prints onto leggings and shower curtains, even 'upcycled' Aliexpress stuffed animals. You have as much chance of finding something unique there as you do on Craig's List or god forbid, Facebook Marketplace. There simply is nothing special about Etsy anymore. Although I hear their ad fees can be pretty 'special' and apparently they are introducing payment reserves much to their sellers chagrin, which frankly, if done right, is a good idea. But it's Etsy, so it's not done right. It's done with a heavy hand making for cranky sellers which we the general public have to put up with if we choose to still buy there. Next time you're there take a stroll through their 'Forums' and hear what the sellers themselves have to say.
In Etsy's defense, despite all the fancy lie to your face website packaging, it seems like a good place to maybe do test market sales for your latest and greatest design or invention, but anyone who goes in thinking that a shop on Etsy will be a business worthy of quitting your day job over is in for a rude awakening. If you're serious about starting a business, then start one. On your own or on one of those sites who helps you manage checkout, stock and taxes, etc... but leaves your branding and offerings alone. Why would any serious business owner even consider a shop on Etsy, where the site never tells you what their long game is, or even their short game for that matter, as a legitimate 'business'. It's no different that the weekenders who sell what's in their closets on eBay. At least there they don't try to hide the fact that re-selling is Ok.
I find that it is still a fairly good site for supplies, if that's your thing, but a quick check on any one of the other big selling platforms, or even Walmart, and you may be able to save yourself some money by not having the sellers Etsy fees included in your purchase. Vintage wares seem to be the largely true to form category left there but one should still do due diligence to make sure you're not buying something that is only presented as 'vintage', just like you should do on any other site.
Etsy sends out Renewal notices to their shopkeepers usually 2 weeks early. If you pay before the final due date you basically lose the overlapping time and they are double-dipping.
IE: if you get a notice on July 1st for renewals on July 15th and you pay on July 1st then your ads are renewed from the July 1st date and you just lost 2 weeks of time from your previous renewal.
Also never pay your fees to ETSY until the due date.
I've had an Etsy shop for 4 years. Their fees…. 20-35%, so they make more from my sales than I do.
Despite having a 5 star rating, Etsy randomly restricted my account for 90 days. This means they keep 75% (MINIMUM) off all earnings - including shipping fees, until the item has been dispatched. The irony is that Etsy's tracking system doesn't work! I've got items that were delivered 2 months ago still showing as pre-transit according to Etsy.
Example:
I sold an item for £7.50 (inc. Pp). Etsy fees were £2.50, and they reserved £5.54, meaning I 'owed' my reserve 54p! I still had to ship the item.
Today I have 75% of money from 8 orders in reserve. Yet all but 2 of my sales have been delivered.
Why not appeal? Well, as with ALL Etsy's policies, you have NO RIGHT to complain or appeal. I have been told 'we don't look in to any appeals as we trust our algorithms', and that I 'might find the reserves useful'.
How is getting in to debt to dispatch items helpful?
If I'd read Etsy reviews before opening a shop, I would have stuck with eBay.
AVOID Etsy if it's your only income, as you'll end up at the doctors or looking for a second job.
VERY UNETHICAL COMPANY.
Best Product Ever
Remember that reviews can be subjective, and it's always a good idea to read multiple reviews and consider the overall consensus before making a purchasing decision. Additionally, it's important to be cautious of any potential fake or biased reviews, as they can exist on any review platform.
If you're looking to sell, don't use this site. The hidden fees after you sell your item are ridiculous and they can close your account without any explanation. Shame on them. I've read other reviews and the census is that it's a terrible place. Do the research on this scam.
I've been an etsy seller for over a decade with thousands of sales and 5 star reviews. Bout a month ago they put a hold on my account 'because I've had more sales than normal' They are holding 75% of my revenue off of sales that have shipped and have been delivered. This is ridiculous and I can't believe it's legal. There is no reliable way to get ahold of anyone at etsy to resolve the problem and my emails to 'seller support' have not been answered.
PLEASE do not shop on etsy. Most artists have started their own websites since etsy has gotten so shady. See something you like and do a google search for the direct website. The artist will LOVE you and you'll likely have a better shopping experience.
I opened an account to purchase an item. Immediately my account was suspended and I was locked out from buying. Sad for the sellers, I wanted to spend my money.
I was sent the wrong seeds, through Etsy, from Houseseeds. I filed a complaint with both Etsy and Houseseeds, The website states that they will respond within 2 days to inquiries - still no response. I've sent inquiries in the past, and now with the wrong seeds, and I've never received a response.
Loved what I saw when I went on here to get a gift for my husband. But then when it took literally forever to arrive, my tune changed. It was almost a month before the person shipped their light saber holder for the wall. It was supposed to be a gift for his birthday. Had to get a small gift so he would have something to open while we waited.
There were months spent setting up a store on Etsy, editing, creating, and improving the content of my shop, which ended up looking super. Just now, Etsy permanently suspended my account without warning or explanation. I will not be setting up another shop on Etsy or using it to purchase anything. I will also not recommend it to anyone—waste of time and money.
I sent off for two wall plates for outside they sent me one email them and ask them where is the other one they reply back I forgot to put it in waited four days for the up one to come I got back in touch with them and they said it's keep coming back to them I can't see why because they don't but their address on the parcel telling lies I got my money back for one I will not buy off this company again because they tell too many lies and make you wait so I just warning people about this thank you for reading this I would let you know okay
** HORRIBLE** experience as a seller. They have had my shop on hold for 8 weeks so far and counting and said it was due to verification. Mind you, the info they had was correct. Then when I reached out multiple times, they say "it's a IT glitch." This website is unreliable for sellers. We depend on this platform for income. So for them to put a hold on an account for so long, unreliable. Be careful
Answer: Check the reviews, and Google the seller. Also, are the reviews written in good english? Does it seem fake? Check pictures from the buyers.
Answer: I would have to say no, with LOTS of exceptions. In the past few years Etsy has allowed business to claim handmade if it meets certain criteria. I often see many items that claim to be handmade but I have seen them on Alibaba being sold in bulk. That being said I look very closely and have purchased some wonderfu items from great sellers. The biggest problem with Etsy is that they no longer protect customers from fraud (they say they are not liable) but in doing that lots and lots or resellers and counterfeit items have saturated Etsy' s marketplace. I would never buy anything "vintage" there. What I have seen you are getting thrift store rejects or modern fake. Buyer beware! Investigate all vendors carefully!
Answer: I am agree with Ramina. 90% is not hand made. All comes from Factories. When someone has over 8000's item don't you ask who made it. They are all over from Pakistan to turkey east to west up united state. Etsy is happy just to take your money and every 4 or 5 months closing one store to show off and if you have some money as a credit they take it too. No customer service, no respect no manor, they made policy just for FUN and they have FUN with our pocket. Stay far from them FAR FAR.
Answer: I agree with Steve J on this one. A lot of sellers on Etsy work from home in the evenings for extra money. Most of them are not big businesses with massive inventories so I would give them the benefit of the doubt. Give them a little more time and if they dont send it out then file a case with etsy
Answer: Business checking isn't necessary (the banks now charge a monthly fee for a small business checking). You can pretty much set up a regular checking account
Answer: I believe this depends on each seller. Etsy is simply a platform for sellers, and often does not have any direct involvement with orders short of processing the payment. Certain items cannot be returned for safety and hygiene reasons, and sellers can refuse to do anything other than exchange. Contacting Etsy may or may not change the results.
Answer: If you do, I would be cautious about ordering from international sellers, use a credit card in case you need to contest the charges, and do NOT expect ETSY do a thing if you get ripped off. They are useless and could care less once the sale is final.
Answer: I have bought a number of items through Etsy and with great success. I had only one negative experience and Etsy took are of that. I recommend Etsy wholeheartedly.
Answer: The best and quickest thing to do is to email the seller and let them know that you would like to return for a refund.
