I wanted to look for gifts for coworkers for Christmas. I typed in the search bar "gifts for coworkers" and was SHOCKED by how many items came up that included the "F word" or the words "$#*!" or "$#*!". That is not at all cute or funny or appealing to me as a consumer. Etsy's help department could not offer any way to filter out profanity, forcing me to view it if I wanted to peruse their offerings. I get it that Etsy is a collection of small shops, but there should be some universal filters to avoid profanity. Just really ridiculous. They lost a long time customer.

As a seller using Etsy, I have run into multiple issues with the site, and a complete runaround when trying to get help. The latest issue: a customer paid for international air shipping, but the label printed as surface shipping. Which I didn't notice at the time, and now their product is late arriving. Also, they removed a listing of mine, and when I email to ask why (because there is no reason that I can see - it was a vintage hair dryer, and multiple vintage hair dryers are listed on the site) - I received an email back saying "read the policy". Which I had already done, and didn't see anything that applied to my listing, which was why I emailed to ask for help. When I told them that...they gave me no answers and told me not to email back again.
Also, although there is a purchase protection program that is supposed to help sellers, the only way to access it is if a buyer opens a case against you. So the only way to access it is by being a jerk to your customers.
Furthermore, it is very difficult to make sales as a vintage shop where each time you sell is a one-off. I would give fewer stars, except that the labels are very convenient when they work well, and its relatively easy and inexpensive to create a listing. Otherwise, the frustrations and lack of sale volume make it not worth my while, and I will be closing my shop as a result.

ChiChibyChia
October 13, 2023

I ordered stemless wineglasses from ChiChibyChia through Etsy and they are perfect for dog and wine lovers! I ordered the ones that said "In dog wines, I've only had one" for both my sister/brother-in-law and me! We love them and they make us laugh while we are enjoying our wine! Kathy

DONT WASTE YOUR TIME
October 8, 2023

I have sat here for 2 days listing items on Etsy and now it won't let me input a credit card to list them! It keeps highlighting my country--
USA--and will not accept any of the 8 cards I have put in. So I have spent an entire week naming my store, uploading photos, measuring, comping, describing all for naught. Guess I don't eat this week. Thanks etsy

Etsy sucks!
October 4, 2023
Updated review

Etsy has sucked for some time now, but now there's a brand new reason they suck. They are using reCaptcha to see is you are a human. The problem is that reCaptcha can't tell you're a human. For several days now I have clicked thru hundreds of photos of motorcycles, bicycles, busses, cars, traffic signals, stairs, crosswalks, etc. I have clicked my way thru 257 reCaptchas today alone. Each time, after doing literally hundreds of reCaptchas, I'm told that I am an automated system, and thus not allowed access. The only way to tell Etsy their system won't let you logon is to logon first, which of course you can't do. I would just give up, but I need information that's on Etsy to do my taxes.

Run away, run away!

Previous review

I have been selling on Etsy since 2014. Initially their fees were reasonable. Now they have essentially tripled. And to make matters worse, they now force any shop that grosses $10K per year or more to participate in their advertising program that takes 12-15% of your gross (including shipping) in addition to all their other fees (listing fee, transaction fee, final value fee, final value fee on shipping). They never let you opt out, even if you drop below the $10K threshold. Now Etsy makes more off my sale than I do! I'm looking for a new platform!

They cost my family more than $600,000 per year on the unsubstantiated hearsay libel of Mike Rothschild, a hit piece specialist who isn't a good enough writer to get a job as an actual journalist, and is know for always being wrong.

He wrote a fact-free, defamatory hatchet job, emailed it to Etsy's amateur PR staff, who predictably panicked even though less than 59 other people would even read the piece. They removed all my listings, but left up those of my competitors. No reason is ever given since no rules are ever broken.

Paid $105.47 a year ago for Kantha quilts from this seller. Never received order. Two months of correspondence with "Java Devi" at LaressaGifts yielded series of lame excuses (e.g., it's a FedEx problem, a festival holiday, mother in hospital, etc.). No package or refund.

Trying to file complaint on ETSY site, both then and now, led to automatic electronic responses, round robins, and dead ends. It also directed me to PayPal, which responded with irrelevant robot statements.

In fairness, I have been satisfied with most ETSY purchases. However, I will not be using the site again, having discovered this lack of customer service in case of fraud.

I've been a seller on Etsy for quite some time, managing two distinct shops, "Shop A" and "Shop B." Unfortunately, my journey as an Etsy seller has been nothing short of a frustrating nightmare, leading me to give this platform a rating of 0 stars.

My ordeal began when "Shop B" was suspended by Etsy's automated bots. The reason cited was violation of their handmade policy. I suspect it's because of the same images we have on other marketplaces, such as Amazon Handmade. Etsy's response was swift, but far from fair. They sent alarming emails to my customers, warning them of potential order issues, even when orders were already in transit with tracking numbers. Automatic refunds were issued, leaving customers bewildered and my payment account drained. Shockingly, I couldn't even message my customers to assure them, as Etsy disables messaging when a shop is suspended.

Etsy's appeal process for suspended shops is deeply flawed. Sellers like me are denied the opportunity to speak to a human representative or provide documentation to prove the handmade nature of our items. Instead, we're left with no option but to admit fault and promise compliance with policies. If you're not guilty, it doesn't seem to matter. My appeal was unsuccessful, and most disheartening of all, they continued to also suspend my other "Shop A" – a completely different product line with no prior issues. Overnight, I lost income from both shops.

Adding insult to injury, Etsy's handling of payouts has been baffling. When my shops received a sudden surge of orders due to Google Ads, Etsy placed reserves on my payouts for months at a time. Their automated systems flagging suspicious activity resulted in a financial setback.

Equally distressing is Etsy's complete lack of seller support. Buyers frequently open cases instead of engaging in communication with sellers, leading to automatic refunds without sellers even being informed. The absence of meaningful support and communication is nothing short of shocking.

Etsy seems to want sellers to generate profits for them but fails miserably in providing the necessary support and fairness. My experience with Etsy has been a disheartening one, and I would strongly advise fellow sellers to save themselves time, effort, and frustration by exploring alternative platforms that truly value and support their sellers.

Hi
I really give zero of possible.
I use a lot of online platforms to sell my stuff and this platform is amateur.
Accepted all my documents but on the first sale I made I problems start.
First the id card that was considered jump to invalid.
Second the credit card I use on all my buys online was invalid?
But to get my money from Etsy do I need my credit card?
I made an appeal for this decision and they keep their decision but don't give any reason for that.
What a shame.

It's a good place to shop for hard-to-find wrestling DVDs. When I received a wrong order, the seller was quick to make it right. A few sellers offer repeat customers 10% or 20% off their next purchase. It's also a good site to find posters and collectibles which aren't on other retail sites because it's handcrafted by the seller, not a company.

Rampant Scams
September 29, 2023

Etsy encourages scammers apparently but not protecting buyers and refusing to shut down obviously fake shops. How many people get ripped off before Etsy does something: apparently it's internal information they can't disclose. Safe to say, shop elsewhere, unless you enjoy being scammed.

It takes way too long to ship. The owners of the companies don't Ever respond when you have a question about your order. The quality is not great. I ordered several things at one time hoping they would come in before our disney trip. They pretty much ruined that because they did not come in and would not return them or respond. There is no help for the buyer whatsoever. I would definitely recommend not using ETSY for your purchases.

Beware of scammers on Etsy
September 21, 2023

In June of 2023, I made a purchase from a shop that read from Mexico. I waited 30 days, and during this time, I made numerous attempts to contact the owner, without any success. After five weeks, I receive an email stating that my package had been delivered... To an individual in Massachusetts! I reside in North Carolina. After a forever search for a contact number to Etsy, I was told that I had to wait another three days to open a case! Even though the proof was in printed ink! Adding insult to injury, I waited the three days and, after another day, was reimbursed by Etsy.
Well, mid-August I purchased an item from a shop. Again, I waited patiently, while items from other vendors had arrived in a timely manner. Again I attempted to contact this shop, without any success. And again, I was notified that my item had been delivered... To an individual in St. Paul, Minnesota! And guess where the vendor was located... Mexico! SCAM written all over these two shops. I again dug up a different Etsy contact number, and even though the representative plainly saw that the item had been delivered a thousand miles away... You guessed it, I have to wait an additional three days to open a case! The shop is CuriosBoyandGirl, and the proprietor is "Brian Campos".
After fifteen years of shopping on Etsy, I think I will cut ties for a while and shop elsewhere.
Buyer beware... We all know that scammers are everywhere, but I feel Etsy's silly policy should reflect this and when an incident occurs, expedite the refund process so the buyer, or customer, feels that Etsy cares. The buyer won't suffer, they will go elsewhere... The good and honest vendors will lose out.

Buyer beware
September 20, 2023

There's lots of cool stuff on Etsy that you can't find anywhere else. However, most sellers are "creative types" and not business owners with initiative.

Therefore, it's lots of goofballs on there that literally take forever to ship your item. Like they're too "busy" laying around smoking pot to bother driving to the post office to mail your stuff to you.

Avoid.

Etsay offers on CNN a wooden advent calendar at the price of 99 USD. If one selects this side, one arrives at the GERMAN side, which says that he price for this calendar would amount to 136,23 EURO, which are 146,33 US Dollar. When asked, the seller on Etsy states that the price is 146.33 and that CNN is not aware.

A Nightmare Experience
September 9, 2023

My recent encounter with Etsy has been nothing short of a catastrophe, and I feel compelled to share my harrowing experience. I entered into this venture with high hopes of opening my own online store, but Etsy's sheer incompetence and lack of transparency have shattered those dreams.

First and foremost, Etsy failed to follow through on their promise of opening my online store. Despite their enticing claims of providing a user-friendly platform for selling handmade products, the reality was starkly different. I meticulously followed their guidelines and completed all the necessary steps, only to discover that my store had never actually been established.

To make matters worse, Etsy began billing me fees for a store that was nothing more than a mirage! I received invoices for services I never received and products I never sold. It's painfully evident that Etsy is solely interested in wringing every last penny from its users, regardless of whether they deliver on their promises.

When I attempted to address this issue with Etsy, their customer support was conspicuously absent. They deactivated their 800-number, making it nearly impossible to get in touch with a live representative. Submitting a ticket online proved to be a Herculean task, and the response time was measured in days or even weeks. It's as if Etsy couldn't care less about their customers' concerns and is solely focused on extracting more money.

Now, here's the real kicker: Etsy has the audacity to demand payment for these fraudulent fees before they'll even consider closing my store, which never actually existed! It's a blatant attempt to extort money from me, and it's beyond disgraceful.

In conclusion, my experience with Etsy has been a complete and utter disaster. They failed to fulfill their promises, billed me for services that never materialized, and demonstrated an utter disregard for customer service and ethics. I strongly advise anyone contemplating using Etsy to seek out a more reliable and ethical platform for their online store needs. Etsy is nothing but a money-grabbing scam, and I deeply regret ever becoming entangled with them. Spare yourself the agony and avoid Etsy at all costs!

Bad company
September 9, 2023

I purchased a DVD through an Etsy seller. It is scratched and won't play. The seller refused to respond. When I said I'd give him a bad review he replied "Have fun with that." Won't be shopping with Etsy again. There doesn't seem to be a place on the site to report the seller.

I purchased a onesie from GooberPrints. I was very impressed with the owner, Troy. He was personal and professional. He very promptly answered my questions and the item was delivered in a timely manner. It was exactly what I ordered and came perfectly and safely packaged. The onesie is a shower gift and I am anxious to be the giver of such a high quality and very personal item. I will most definitely do business with GooberPrints again. Thank you...Jill Kapala
