The company's reputation is marred by significant customer dissatisfaction, primarily stemming from poor customer service and unresolved order issues. Many customers report extensive delays in shipping and inadequate communication regarding their purchases, leading to frustration and a sense of helplessness. Additionally, there are widespread concerns about the platform's reliance on automated systems, which fail to provide effective support for both buyers and sellers. Despite some positive experiences with individual sellers, the overarching sentiment highlights a pressing need for improved transparency and accountability from the company to enhance customer trust and satisfaction.

On Etsy.com, I discovered the ideal outfit for my wedding, and it was amazing. It fit perfectly and was delivered shortly after I ordered it from a UK seller. I heartily endorse this website to anyone searching for a unique wedding gown.
I placed numerous orders throughout the day at Etsy as I came across and decided on different species of plant and seed that I wished to purchase. Most of the purchases were for my business. It took almost all day.
At the end of the day, after Paypal had accepted every purchase (because I had verified that I was the one making them) Etsy *cancelled every purchase*. One after another, I got emails that this had been cancelled and that had been cancelled.
I immediately attempted to contact a customer service rep. There is no longer a phone number to call! Worse, there is no way to chat with a person in this situation!
Having sought to get help with a purchase, I was led through a series of questions that would take me to a page that would ask me if I still needed help and tell me to click a button to get it. This button would take me back to the page whereat I had sought help in the first place and take me through the questions all over again and redirect me back to the first page again!
I spent all evening tracking down websites for the individual sellers and finding other places to put my orders back together. Does it need saying: I do not intend to place another order with Etsy.com.
I have had a terrible experoence with Etsy as a buyer.
I opened a case expecting it to be resolved in my favour given the seller had been dishonest in his add.
They closed it without any meaningful dialogue with me, ruling in favour of the seller who I could & can still prove sold me an item that is not authentic, a fake...
The antique silver plate piece I purchased has hallmarks from two different silversmiths/manufacturers on the one piece but has been passed of as a genuine item of the more exclusive silversmith.
It is no more than two pieces from different artists joined together & passed off as the real deal.
The more exclusive manufacturer who's piece I believed I was buying has even confirmed by email that the seconf hallmark, which was not shown in the sellers add is not theirs.
It would be the same as a car dealer advertising a car with both a Ford & Holden badge as a genuine one or the other. & only showing the badge that supported whatever the seller claimed it to be in their add.
The dealer witheld critical information (a second hallmark) in his add.
In this instance their resolution team has got it completely wrong & I am powerless even with evidence to get them to communicate further with me.
I just feel really ripped off & let down by a platform that should be doing a better job.
The bad reviews are mounting up on productreview.com.au for Etsy too, so I know it's not just me they are doing this too.
If anyone can help, I would sincerely appreciate it.
I'm really happy with my dress, it fits me perfectly and definitely at the highest level ;) The seller is just as friendly as you can be, would definitely recommend her.
Very convenient online store, a lot of choice of products. I really liked the design of the online store in light and pleasant colors.
Although Etsy is not the only online marketplace available, it has a large customer base and is one of the most popular sites for selling handmade items. Etsy has over 2 million users and 100,000 stores. On Etsy, you can sell almost anything, from home décor to clothing and even jewellery. If you want to start an online business, Etsy is a good place to start. Etsy offers a wide range of products, so there is always something for everyone in your family or group of friends. The website also provides free shipping to customers in the United States and Canada.
I adore Etsy; it's like the shopping addict's paradise. Anything you wish to buy is available! The price of shipping is the one thing that isn't so fantastic about it. But it's definitely worth purchasing from Etsy if you're seeking for something unique, like a certain colour or material!
Was looking for a specific product and Etsy showed up in the search. There is no method to their pricing. It ranged from $10 to $45. I bought it elsewhere for $3.
I bought a ring with a cluster of opals from Colors of Etnika through the Etsy website. When I asked for a total refund because the colour was different, they told me that there was no significant difference and closed the case. The opals were turquoise blue on the advertised picture and the ring I received had totally different colours. I know opals can change colour according to lighting but it was really obvious in this case that they were different. Therefore I am only going to be refunded for the ring I returned, no refunding of shipping costs involved. I won't buy through Etsy again and would not recommend it to anyone who doesn't want to get ripped off.
Quite sad that they suspend my account event I didn't do anything. Just open an account and upload my products and they suspend after :(
The site charges outrageous fees, NEVER stands behind its Sellers (their true customer) and allows sham sellers to run rampant on the site. I opened my shops with Etsy when they first got started, it is sad to see what was once the best handmade selling venue turn into such a horrible place for the seller. Etsy has slipped way to the bottom, I know very few true sellers who even utilizer the site. Stick to Amazon and Ebay they are REAL sites for a reseller to transact business and not be scammed by Etsy and the scam artist who go there to steal items.
This is my first time buying from Etsy. It's a scam! I never received my package and when I try to login to track my package, it says my account is closed. What is going on? Where's my package? I want a refund!
This is absolutely ridiculous now!
I place a order - boxes weren't in tact, every book damaged.
They send out replacements and the same thing happens.
This issue has been ongoing for months! And they are aware of it. It should have been resolved immediately!
The company is loosing money, I'm loosing money - nobody is winning here by using auto packers.
The worst is that I now have hundreds of what should have been beautiful books, but they are all ruined…absolutely ruined!
Etsy is one of the worst places to sell handmade goods.
Their policy is for Etsy business not for buyers or sellers. They care only about their fees!
No support, no service just huge fees and strict policy even if it's not your fault!
Placed an order on Jan 2nd, order will be shipped in 5-7 days. After 18 days of waiting for at least a shipping number, I requested a refund. The next day they said the order was shipped, that's what the shipping status shows on the website. It was not there the day before I request a refund. It's the 23rd and I do not have a shipping order number, which tells me the order has not shipped, it was the vendor's way of not justifying a refund by submitting shipped status. I contacted Etsy and after I mentioned to them that I was disappointed in the customer service. They hung up the phone.
Regardless of the delivery time that the merchant post, it could be misleading, just to get you to buy. So….unless you're ok with taking a chance and waiting on your purchase, no matter how long it takes, I would shop elsewhere. Etsy Customer service is a Waste of time. If you decide to shop, Good luck!
My regrets, I should've purchased via Amazon instead of Etsy, at least you can cancel your order if you're having delivery issues.
I bought this vintage leather purse from Handmade greats and got it 2 days ago. Even though it is used, it looks brand new. No damage anywhere, metal zippers and several sections. It really is the most beautiful purse I've ever owned and I love it!
On 9/26/22 my computer was remotely hacked. I made Etsy aware through contact they cut me off out of fear I was the hacker. It was a horrible experience dealing with Etsy. I emailed daily telling them to cut off my shop as sales kept coming in and I could not get in the shop. It took me two months to prove who I was as I begged in emails for them to cut the shop customers kept purchasing. They did nothing in return my shop went from a 5 star down as October right into December continued. All the money from customers went into the hackers account I ended up paying 600.00 in fees. Horrible experince down right horrible as a seller. I also ask them to remove the negative reviews for those months and they declined as I had no access to the shop whatsoever. I have all the documented proof in emails if anyone wants to view it. They treat sellers horribly and most of the items are not handmade I turned in many shops.
I have never bought anything from Etsy myself, but as a seller, it is a neat website to sell your products on. Of course, you have to invest in advertisements, otherwise, your products will not be seen. Besides that everything is just great.
Etsy is a total scam for buyers and sellers.
As buyer: the items never arrived and no support answered.
As seller: they are free to block your account without any reason.
Etsy closed my shop after I refused to accept an unwarranted $1200 charge back to my account. As this was all going down, I had evacuated to Savannah, Georgia due to a mandatory evacuation directive in anticipation of Hurricane Ian. Etsy closed my shop the day I returned home.
It is not easy to fold your tent, when you have thousands of items to liquidate. In fact, the task was too much for me and I ended up in the emergency room. Thanks Etsy! Keeping in mind your "Keep Commerce Human" motto, and all. After 6 months, still getting billed for over $1,000. Etsy will not honor my no return policy.
Answer: Check the reviews, and Google the seller. Also, are the reviews written in good english? Does it seem fake? Check pictures from the buyers.
Answer: I would have to say no, with LOTS of exceptions. In the past few years Etsy has allowed business to claim handmade if it meets certain criteria. I often see many items that claim to be handmade but I have seen them on Alibaba being sold in bulk. That being said I look very closely and have purchased some wonderfu items from great sellers. The biggest problem with Etsy is that they no longer protect customers from fraud (they say they are not liable) but in doing that lots and lots or resellers and counterfeit items have saturated Etsy' s marketplace. I would never buy anything "vintage" there. What I have seen you are getting thrift store rejects or modern fake. Buyer beware! Investigate all vendors carefully!
Answer: I am agree with Ramina. 90% is not hand made. All comes from Factories. When someone has over 8000's item don't you ask who made it. They are all over from Pakistan to turkey east to west up united state. Etsy is happy just to take your money and every 4 or 5 months closing one store to show off and if you have some money as a credit they take it too. No customer service, no respect no manor, they made policy just for FUN and they have FUN with our pocket. Stay far from them FAR FAR.
Answer: I agree with Steve J on this one. A lot of sellers on Etsy work from home in the evenings for extra money. Most of them are not big businesses with massive inventories so I would give them the benefit of the doubt. Give them a little more time and if they dont send it out then file a case with etsy
Answer: Business checking isn't necessary (the banks now charge a monthly fee for a small business checking). You can pretty much set up a regular checking account
Answer: I believe this depends on each seller. Etsy is simply a platform for sellers, and often does not have any direct involvement with orders short of processing the payment. Certain items cannot be returned for safety and hygiene reasons, and sellers can refuse to do anything other than exchange. Contacting Etsy may or may not change the results.
Answer: If you do, I would be cautious about ordering from international sellers, use a credit card in case you need to contest the charges, and do NOT expect ETSY do a thing if you get ripped off. They are useless and could care less once the sale is final.
Answer: I have bought a number of items through Etsy and with great success. I had only one negative experience and Etsy took are of that. I recommend Etsy wholeheartedly.
Answer: The best and quickest thing to do is to email the seller and let them know that you would like to return for a refund.
