The original unit i received was defective. I was given a list of things to try and when those failed I was sent a replacement. Tech support was great. The unit may have suffered in shipping as it was out of it's box in the package. You may want to tape them in the future.

I have bought several BRK First Alert combination smoke/carbon dioxide fire alarms here over the past few years and the price has been reasonable. The shipping has been very fast coming from the west coast to the east coast.
One thing I look for is the date of manufacture when I receive them, to be sure they are not old stock. I have had very good luck and the detectors are new out of the box with a fresh date on them.

I was a little surprised not to receive the CO Detector in the manufacturer's packaging (it was in a plastic bag), but the unit appears new and works properly so I'm good with the sale. If this is normal practice it should be identified on the web page, unless I missed it somewhere. EBS did provide great communications on the order status with tracking info and shipping was extremely fast. Overall, good pricing and service.

After searching my local Home Depot, Lowes, Grainger, etc. websites for 8 replacement BRK hardwired smoke detectors and CO/smoke combos, I found that they didn't carry any direct replacements. Fortunately, I stumbled upon electricbargainstores.com who carried the upgraded models that replaced my discontinued ones. The price was great (based on other websites' comparable units), delivery charge wasn't excessive, and they showed up in a few days. Normally I like to shop locally and pick the units up myself. But since I couldn't find any, this online purchase worked out well. And since the wiring harnesses on the old models were identical to the ones used in the new units, I didn't have to rewire them (which I would have had to with other manufacturer's locally available, more costly units).
