But the unit still says "Spectrum" and won't recognize my sim.

You first get asked for some money to verify unlocking is possible this was what I thought was the total. Then you get asked for a bit more to do the unlocking. Then you get asked to spend a bit more because it isn't paid off. At this point I didn't pay any more and was already out about 100 dollars. They wanted like 400 more. Finally after it was all paid off, I unlocked through the carrier and for the fun of it tried the unlock process again through direct unlock since they only gave me a credit back as my guarantee. Three days later they let me know that it was unlocked.

You can unlock your phone usually for free with your provider. This company says on its website that a phone will be unlocked within 30 minutes. It took 3 days. Also, there are two payments you have to make not the one like it makes it seem. So please if you are reading this DO NOT use this company.
