I was charged for automatic renewing without any notifications via email. So I tried to contact with their staff. First, the first staff intentionally left the conversation while I was still talking. Second, I tried to contact with another staff. She said that it was technical issue and I still had no refund. I said that technical issue was not my fault but I still took responsibility for it by being charged. Ridiculous

Coursera intentionally use tactics to trick clients into signing up to subscriptions without knowing what they are doing. When you have a free trial you have access to Coursera Plus. What they don't make clear is that you can have access but you can't have the certificate. It's shows you at the end of the course you will get a certificate but you don't. Then you wonder why you not getting your certificate in searching for the option you are given a window that says if you have Coursera Plus you can have your certificate. But if you on a trial you have been told that you are in fact on Coursera Plus. A link is presented to you while you search for options to get your certificate that says Coursera Plus. Natural response is "I'm on Coursera Plus with my free trial maybe if I click the link I'm confirming I'm on Coursera Plus and I will be able to access my certificate. As soon as you click on it you are billed immediately and the 7 day free trial is terminated. This is after Coursera repeatedly tells you you will NOT BE BILLED until the end of your trial period. They intentionally provide no information about what the consequences are of clicking on the Coursera Plus button. Who would worry about clicking on it if they already have a Coursera Plus trial active? Last thing you would expect after how the clearly say you will NOT BE BILLED under the trial period is over! It's a repulsive and despicable way to do business. It's disgusting that a company like Coursera stoops to such vile lows to get business. I had the last money in my account stolen in a flash. Money I need to pay rent. I appealed to Coursera telling them what had happened and what the circumstances were and I got a big so sorry to bad. So my wife and I now face a uncertain future, with winter here and the shelters full once we are evicted we will be on the streets all thanks to Coursera and their deceptive and repulsive way of doing business. Beware. They don't give a dam about you they will screw you over any chance they get

Deceptive
January 10, 2025

I was under the impression after signing up that I would be able to take the lectures, assignments, and quizzes and pay for a certificate at a later date. This is not the case. As soon as I took a quiz, and reached the bottom, out came the button to upgrade and pay to have my answers evaluated. Not what I was expecting. Not sure if I will even bother with them any further.

You do not have a job, and you think you could try Coursera courses? Quite wrong! Many of their courses will ask for LinkedIn, HubSpot or similar accounts (and if you try opening them, you will be asked for your job description, firm, even website-impossible to open without these data). There are links for newspaper articles you need a subscription to read. I contacted their customer support, but only got a few of "template" answers "valuing my feedback" before "successfully" closing my case. They said their partners choose what is needed for a course, but Coursera chooses its partners, doesn't it? And could surely set some rules.

Be very careful if you choose to do the free trial. You can cancel before the end of the seven days, but BE SURE TO DELETE YOUR PAYMENT METHOD TOO. Otherwise they will still charge you. Don't let them do to you what they did to me. They essentially stole $60 from me. You have been warned.

Pretty good.
February 24, 2024

I'm a university student so I got my courses for free, I have no complaints. I think the level of knowledge I gain from Udemy and Coursera are pretty much the same if I put some effort into it. So in conclusion, pretty good in general, exactly like I'm attending a class in university, except that I pay attention and doesn't fall asleep. But I doubt that only attending a course or a university will guarantee you anything lol.

Pretty Bad
February 11, 2024

So I started using Coursera because Microsoft has direct Excel courses there. My first two classes went ok. Unfortunately for my third class the split screen will no longer work and I cannot proceed with any further learning. There are no humans to call or talk to in real time. My time is limited. They blatantly lie and tell you that you can contact support via their site. This is a lie, you just get connected with a boy. The community forums serve no purpose if someone needs help NOW, not a day or weeks from now hoping someone responds. Same with their email. How they stay in business providing such horrible service is a mystery to me.

Expensive, exploitative and useless. Most courses are filled with useless complex information just to make them longer and leech off longer subscription periods from users.

So sad truly. I took a social media management course and finished taking it around my actual job in 3 days.
I submitted all peer reviewed assignments and also reviewed my peers' assignments. It doesn't let you move forward in the course until you do that. When I reached the final video and the teacher said congratulations for completing the course, I was looking forward to the promised certificates that were 'recognized' by professionals. No certificates ever arrived. Customer service is a bot. The bot asked me to provide proof of completion every few days via email. I sent them links that would bring them to my completed assignments and the side menu that had highlighted in green every module I had completed. If it was a human being they would have gone to the links and seen the proof that I completed the course and all quizzes and assignments. The last correspondence I had the bot asked me to provide further screen shots along with the links and other screen shots I had sent. I called me credit card company to refute the $49 charge that left me with nothing. I also canceled my credit card because they are so fraudulent I believe they would continue to charge me each month. Absolutely disgusting company. I worked on that course and the assignments and quizzes for nothing in the end. Customer service is creepy as it is absolutely a bot just sending pretty much the same email correspondence, so it's clear no one is reading the consumer's emails.
They should be ashamed of themselves that they scam so many people out of money and those who are simply looking to further their careers through courses and promised certificates that don't exist. Run as fast as you can or just avoid them.

Subscription
November 15, 2023

The website wouldn't allow me to cancel the subscription. The website charged me twice and I had to manually write to customer service to cancel the google data analytics certificate. Additionally, every time I tried to remove my debit card information, the system generated an "error code" and wouldn't let me remove my card. Customer support stated they were not able to help me with this request (debit card removal) and I had to e-mail an entirely different department or keep trying ( even though I stated I've tried over ten times). It seems like this is the accepted business model. Highly disappointed and will never use the website again.

I signed up for a free Cousera program to qualify to join a volunteer organization. After the first two parts of the course, a request for payment popped up on the screen. When I contacted Coursea about this they said that I have to contact my organization. The organization said to contact Coursera. I then asked Coursera "customer service" to directly to resolve the problem with the organization. Cousera REFUSED!. The responses from Coursera appear to be AI generated. After spending hours on the the course and correspondence with Coursera, it is very disappointing to have no way to resolve their problem. AVOID COURSERA.

I signed up for an ESL certification course with Coursera bec I saw the Arizona State University logo attached and assumed it was a contract with ASU to offer an online course. Paid $45 for the single course, got halfway thru, then was blocked. I was told (via chat) that I had never paid. My bank acct says I paid 1 month ago. Then the rep said I was "upgraded" ON THE SAME DATE and now will be billed monthly. I never chose an upgrade. I just wanted the one course. Coincidentally, I just got my new card from my bank with a different account # -- Good luck collecting, Coursera! I intend to contact ASU to find out if they know their name is being used. The course content was mickey-mouse anyway, and I suspect the "viedos" were staged and not real...

Terrible customer service
August 21, 2023

I was really enjoying my class in Prompt Engineering for ChatGPT, but when it came time to submit the first assignment, I couldn't enter it. Just simple text, nothing fancy. I got this error message: "Looks like there's an error. The server encountered an internal error. Try the action again or refresh your page. If you continue to see this error please contact support for help."

It's six days since I first emailed customer support. I did everything they suggested, cleared cache and cookies, logged out and back in, sent screenshots, opened the Java console. After doing that, I never heard back.

I've requested a refund. I will never recommend Coursera and will share my experience wherever I can. I'm extremely disappointed. I was very interested in the course and would have been glad to take additional courses. They lost a customer forever with their terrible customer service.

This is a corrupt company that will take your money. It is impossible to cancel a subscription or get any type of customer service. You will never be able to chat with anyone. But they will consistently charge you no matter what.

I signed up for 2 courses. Cyber Security and IT Support, When giving my credit card number, their system was rejecting it and asking for another card. They charged both cards and deleted my accounts progress of over 66 hours of course work and test. No phone numbers to call, no accountability, response letters will Gaslight you to the 10th power. No professional correspondence, A BOT is used to convey messages. After reading ALL OF THE LIES that they are telling their customers, Leaves me no choice but to report them. I am like Popeye, I've had ALLS that I can stand and I cant stand NO MORE!

I had signed up for a free Coursera class and approved a one time $50 charge to get a certificate once the class was completed. 4 months go by and I just noticed I have been charged a monthly fee of $49! I never subscribed for a membership and the class was supposed to be FREE. No clue how or why this recurring charge started. When I tried reaching out to Coursera they said they would look into it. Still waiting to hear back to get my refund. It was like they automatically signed me up for some kind of monthly membership without my permission. Looking online Im seeing a lot of people have had this happen to them! How is this legal?! Im very upset and hoping that I get my full refund for the 4 months of unlawful charges.
