I broke a rule- for which I repeatedly apologized- and received 'infractions' for it. I was not banned for breaking the rule.
I followed the TOS re: what they tell members to do: attempted to get assistance from moderators. As the TOS also says members can contact the Admin, I did this- no reply.
One of the mods informed me that both senior moderators and the admin are all co-owners of the site, so I directly contacted the owner asking for his assistance, and because of this I was permanently banned. Was not even notified that I'd been banned- only found out when I tried to log in. Seems they also blocked my ISP address so I was no longer able to access the site at all.
Telling members to go through the 'chain of command' when they all own the site is dishonest and deceptive.

Topping it off, they clearly know nothing about operating a forum- I read complaints on a different site from many others with similar experiences, accused of 'trolling' when asking moderators to resolve situations. Evidently they don't know what the word means.

It was a disgusting display of disrespect.

The first time i responded to a member who had inquired about the hospital, Christus Saint Vincents. I was a patient there before? And later that year took a contract there to work. The weird part? When i posted my observations as an observer, The moderator Poncho M. Deleted my posts after i was flamed off by forum members DagneyT63, and Greater Santa Fe. Poncho M. Deleted their extremely aggressive remarks telling me to "go back to New York City", and personal attacking.

Poncho M. Cleaned it up by deleting my posts. Then had Dagney leave a post for everyone to see that stated: "I hope you find happiness here". Seriously? That was the weirdest crap i've ever seen in a forum.

I came back a year later to reply to a new member about Christus? And guess who immediately deleted that post? Poncho M, the moderator. I was pm'd that i had an infraction, and that i was trolling.

Well, basically, i'm banned from City Data, because i sent a PM back to "Poncho" letting him know where he could put that infraction. And other colorful language. I'm sure he probably broke a fingernail trying to get me banned right away.

Me being a traveling Native American - I don't have to "go back to NYC". Hell, i only worked there any way.

Stay away from that website. If you have to tell the truth about Santa Fe, NM? There's a guarantee it will be moderated, flamed, deleted, or you'll get banned.

Pathetic excuse for a website ran by pathetic excuses for human beings. Most of the posters are cowards who have no real world experience. Intelligent opinions are chastised and quickly removed from the website in favor of ignorant, right wing extremist drivel. Most of the popular postings for cities feature race baiting threads where someone asks a narrow question or delivers a narrow opinion and flocks of fellow ignoramuses take the bait. The general forums are used to bash minority groups, women, low income people, homosexuals, Muslims, atheists -- anyone who has a culture or lifestyle that they are unable to understand. These are some of the most hateful, psychotic, passive-aggressive individuals I have ever noticed online. Clearly these people are not mentally stable. They are true keyboard warriors who only feel powerful when behind the screen of their computers in the computer chairs they are glued to indefinitely. This site is useless for people who are not ignorant and capable of complex, logical thought. Facts are frowned upon here too. I see the previous posters understand how ridiculous of a site this is as well. Sites similar to this are Topix and Stormfront. Avoid.

SN: Even their actual data is outdated. Be careful utilizing the data they post; I have checked it against actual census data and found much of it to be estimates and projections. You are better off visiting the US Census Bureau website if you are looking for accurate information.

The vast majority of discussions are about race and ethnicity. People basically ask if a certain neighborhood has a certain number of minorities living in it before they take the plunge. Any area that has less than 80% WASP is deemed ghetto and trash. Majority of the threads and discussions devolve into trashing Blacks, Hispanics, immigrants, and occasionally Asians, Jews and Hipsters. Skip it, it's like going on a White Supremacist website

As far as the forums go, there's a good chance that you'll get your posts deleted, and get an infraction or be banned if you try and argue against people who post racist/extreme right-wing ideology... while the racist posts don't get deleted. There have been rumors for years that a lot of the members and some of the moderators are trolls from the well-known white supremacist site Stormfront. You've been warned.

The data in the non-forum part of the website is good, but the fact that it's a site that's overrun with racists brings the whole thing down in a massive way.

Been on there for years. Just happened to mention I am Indigenous andI was threatened by Elkhunter, a moderator. Come to find out City Data is connected to the White Supremacist forum called Stormfront. Yep! You betcha! White Supremacists are now moderating City Data forum. I asked to be removed after I was warned for doing nothing wrong. They wouldn't remove me but decided to threaten me and let me know they are keeping their eye on me. Why? I have no clue. So, I decided to get myself banned by posting this and within seconds I was banned. Woohoo! "Go online, this is a racist forum with moderators being recruited by Stormfront, one of the most racist (white supremacist) forums in the country. I have been on here for many years and it wasn't until I mentioned I am Indigenous that I was threatened by two moderators that I am being watched now. I posted nothing wrong. My comments regarding the rights of Indigenous people were deleted. I am being threatened now by the moderators on this site. I implore you all now to go to the ACLU and complain about this site as quickly as possible. DO THE RESEARCH, Google "City Data and Stormfront". This post will most likely be removed very soon."

I was permanently banned from this lovely site (darn it) for defending celebration of MLK day, as opposed to a day to celebrate Robert E. Lee, their golden boy. I may have made a fatal error, however, by mentioning the fact that yes, he was a slave owner (which they still seem to want to deny) and a rather brutal one at that. I am really not a troll.

Websites and the contents posted belong to the company that owns it. They set the rules. I've gone on it on and off (mostly off) for about three years. I go on it for a while, get a demerit for posting something. I may continue using it (I'm old enough to not care about demerits) and ultimately and consistently get fed up with it and quit.

I was given a demerit yesterday. Part of the reason was due to not staying on subject in the thread. Another part of the reason was something about religion. The reality:
1) I responded to people who took the original post and turned it into something it was not really related. I stated in my responses (and there were many) that the commenter was not writing anything related to the topic and I was going to reel the comment in and segue it to the post.
2) The next response to the post (the OP asked if homosexuality was an abnormality) was about God and sin. My posts were on later pages. The religious comment was left with many people responding to it. They were left.

I went on the following day and told the inconsistent moderator other posts (like the first religious response) should be removed as well. I also attempted to remove my other posts. It was enough and I had a memory of why I stayed off city-data. So, I told them they should get rid of my ID and delete my posts.

If the moderators were consistent, it wouldn't matter. But they appeared to take a dart and toss it at my clean and factual responses. Free speech isn't the issue because they're allowed to control the site as they see fit but they're doing a poor job at it and have done a poor job.

They don't like attacks or name-calling and that's prevalent throughout.

Strange site-full of real estate hawkers on the Florida sites for sure. Other sites are needlessly cliquish with agenda of mindless boosterism and Paid Perfromances by the locals. Extremely defensive and narrow participants, and the moderators must get paid too, or simply don't have a job worth a crap, or they must subscribe to every thread through their smart phones so they get INSTANT notification if someone posts something they can DELETE or "BAN" for allegedly being a TROLL. Posters get labeled as "trolls" if they don't agree with the cyber clique and gang mentality. Very odd indeed. Lousy stuff, but shows how people really are in certain cities and states.

Blatant double standards applied when moderators decide who's posts to delete. Don't bother complaining. They don't care.
Moderators are all over the place on what they allow. Some let debate flow a bit too freely, others are absurdly strict.
Has potential as an informative source for moving issues, but walk away before you get hooked.
